My experience is that they are not paying out for individual items according to maker as they once were over 2 years ago. Ask for the quote of your items before you agree to be paid. Then, take back your like new kids clothing and sell in a bundle online-- take photos and list it's easy --by size. Don't allow under pricing you out of what they are worth. I love the selection of things they have. Plus they have a whole section in the back for equipments. This was helpful since we were looking for a table set. We did not find it but still provided plenty of other things. The store is very organized and smells clean. I wasn't too impressed. My friends have been raving about this store and the deals you can find, on baby gear, clothing and the like. Don't get me wrong this place is huge, they do a beautiful job of separating items by color and size; however I was disappointed in the cost of the items. I am a frugal fanatic and love to get a good deal, but this just wasn't it. I brought an item that was barely used. The clerk took my license and asked me to submit my phone number. I waited and when I returned I was told.tp.go to the cashier desk. The clerk offered me $10 for the booster seat with tray and toys. She stated that is was u clean and I could clean it a d come back. I responded that I didn't know it was dirty. She said well we look u0 the comparable price online and then said do you want the 10 dollars? and I replied NO. She ripped the receipt off of my chair bcuz she thought I would settle for that. I will ALWAYS drive over an hour to this store. I think they give you a decent amount for what you're selling. The selection is always good. I think the staff has always been polite. This has been my "go to" for the kids clothing for over 10 years. The store is very neat and organized. Most isles are even color coded! They accept only clothes with no stains and very little wear. I never feel offended if they don't take all or any of the clothes I bring in because that's what keeps the quality! They normally take a good amount of the clothes I bring in and your credits never expire. They have special savings days throughout the year where you can get a great haul for much less. read more

It was amazing of how much clothes that this place had! The racks were packed with everything from tutus, hoodies, pants, suits, etc.! There were also shelves of bulk toys and such in the back; we found a cool abacus that was in mint condition, as well as building blocks and fidgets for work. The place also seems to be very mindful of the items that are brought in, and every equipment is checked for safety recalls before acceptance. Prices are pretty reasonable and competitive! This is a racist establishment that won't accept even new items from black people. A a rude lady named Nicole who claims to be the supervisor rejected our stroller and treated our things as if they were never going to be checked. Like at all. You could see the staff behind her squeamish in shame because they know that this is her regular behavior for people of color. Very unwelcoming! There was an odor in the store. I can always find something I like in great condition at this store. I have never sold items but always hear others get like $1 per item regardless of condition which seems unfair. The baby gear seems overpriced - almost retail prices. I didn't know they went bagless so I was just standing waiting for the cashier to bag my huge purchase. She finally said "We don't have bags anymore if that's what you waiting for". Really. I keep bags in my car but apparently I didn't know and she could have said it a better way. In general I find this store to be clean and well kept with an excellent selection and very reasonable prices. I periodically sell my Children's clothing and toys here and have about a 50% success rate when attempting to do so. No real problems with how they process and what they accept from me. I have challenges with policies that are not posted on their website or social media pages. For example, I have called asking if they are accepting clothing, driven the 40 minutes from Alexandria only to be turned away and told they are only accepting toys and equipment. I arrived today at 5:20pm with shoes and winter gear only to be told they atop accepting one hour before closing. I have no problem with the actual policy. I respect the need to apply a standard to help manage work and burden. I am challenged by the fact that the requirements or parameters are not posted on their website, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Especially as someone who drives from so far to shop here. Overall, this is a good store with a great selection of clothing shoes, toys, sporting equipment, books, outerwear, and so much more for kids. When I am looking for cute and comfortable clothes for my little girl, once upon a child is my place. Especially if you wait for their 70% off mid season sale. I went today and got 59 items for $123. And that's because I added a few items that were not on sale. The staff is always super friendly and they move the line along pretty quickly. I would've given them five stars however I don't think they do a good job of buying your clothes. They turn back a lot of items that I know are high-quality and they don't always give you a good place for them. If you want to consign and make your money back, once upon a child is not the place for you. However if you want to save a lot of money by being able to buy quality clothes for a reasonable price, catch their sale and you will not regret it! read more

I have shopped here many times and have sold items three times. First as a shopping experience, it is a three-star. They tend to have good items, but it feels to be a bit overpriced. I try to buy the majority of my kids clothes elsewhere and then fill in the gaps with items from the store. Second, as a place to sell your items, it is absolutely terrible. Zero-star. Every single time I sell here I walk away feeling as if I've been robbed. It is the worst. This most recent trip, they accepted 75 of my items-- including like-new designer shoes, brand new ski coats and ski bibs, beautiful like-new dresses, brand new toys still in box, I could go on. They took all of these, and then paid me just over $100 total. That is little more than a dollar per item. I wanted to cry. There is just no accountability for the store. No one is watching them. They don't give you an itemized receipt. You just drop your stuff off, come back and later and they are like, 'here you go'. It is the worst. So in the future, I will probably still shop here to fill in the missing items in my kids closets. But as a seller, I will never sell here again. I would rather give the clothes away to someone who would truly appreciate them than be totally taken advantage of by this swindling store. read more

Selling Perspective: they are like a Buffalo Exchange, where they only accept certain items. They don't offer much, but if you need a quick buck or just want to get rid of old children's clothes, totally come here. Buying Perspective: awesome! I got 20 items for $16! I came during a spring/summer sale where the blue and orange tags were all a dollar! Woohoo! The books were a $1 or 25¢. Which I totally got some books also. I needed to buy some short-sleeves clothes and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg so after comparing the three OUaC in the area, I chose this one. All the clothes were organized but type, age, and color. Bodysuits aka "onesies" are in the back right though. Prices were very fair and all the items were good quality. I'm not super familiar with kids brands but the section I was in had a lot of Carter's merchandise at about 4-6 dollars an item, which I thought was pretty fair considering it was in like new condition and I recognized it as being current (my kiddo had outgrown the same style in a smaller size recently). Toys are all in the back and we looked a bit but it could use some sort for organizing back there. There wasn't any system I could discern. All the toys were in bins marked, accurately, as "toys." They had a small selection of strollers, a couple of bouncers and pack n plays but we're definitely lacking in the furniture department. I know a lot of resale stores offer pennies on the dollar so people may find it more lucrative to sell large items privately, I don't know. They also had toys on top of the shelves. While efficient at storage, it prevent me from looking at it and determining if I wanted to buy it. Overall I thought it was a good store. Not a lot of sleepwear, and the shoes were only so-so, plus the employees were not super friendly, but those were my only complaints. Hmmm I was heading over there today, but with this freezing weather, I think not. Basically everyone is spot on. Your experience will vary based on whether you are a buyer or seller. As a buyer from newborn up to about age 4, you have tons of good to new with tags mainly brand name clothing. The quantity and quality decline starts after that, simply because kids are not growing as fast + fewer clothes= more wear and tear on clothing. Got it. My biggest pet peeve is that they often will have 2 for 5 walmart/target/kohls brand staples like leggings or plain shirts for the same price you can go to walmart/target/kohls and buy new.Kind of defeats the purpose of getting a deal... Now as a seller, you get tipped off royally. Clothing and shoes are a joke. I give you a "covered basket" of freshly washed, good condition clothing, that I spent all morning checking for stains rips or tears, and you give me back all of them or none of them and $20...??! Do my gap coats, ugg boots, Gymboree outfits and Nordstrom tops mean nothing to you???That being said, As stated before, they accept and don't accept on a whim. I've seen clothes I know dang gone well look a lil more worn than they should be selling or buying, for a price way above they should be asking. It may be that the manager needs serious help on how to run a business. There continues to be a lack of professionalism here. NOT ALL THE employees but most. First let me say that I love Once Upon a Child stores and was excited to find this one. I live 45 mins away so the Yelp reviews made me call before leaving the house. Thank goodness I did! There are so many stipulations on selling back clothes it didn't even make it worth my time to make the trip! They currently are only accepting sets of clothes, no single items like jeans, pants, tops, onesies, etc. All items must be in a plastic container and no bags. They also have select hours for accepting clothes, so check ahead of time. There are additional rules so call and ask-I just can't remember all of them. We had a OUC back in NC and they took everything (except Gerber items) and made no requirements on how it was brought in! I think I'll just save my items for the next time I'm back in NC! Two stars because I can find really good clothing here for a good price. 0 stars to the staff. I've always had an unwelcoming feeling coming here and my last visit was the reason I'm reviewing. I had gotten to the register and a girl was standing there and said nothing to me so another employee came by to check me out after I said "hello?" It was my sons bedtime and he didn't want to be held so I let him down. As I was paying for my items my son decided to run and as I went to chase him and grab him I looked up and the girl gave a frustrated look to her other employees, frustrated, as if she had something better to do than HER JOB. There was no one in line behind me, it took me 4 seconds to grab my son. It's just the fact that this is a children's store, there shouldn't be rude looks, snarky comments or boredom in their eyes talking to you. How about some happy employees. read more

My first time in this store and I will say that I had higher expectations. Most of these clothes in the toddler girl section were in bad condition. Some pieces were dingy and/or had lint balls. I found three shirts that I purchased that were not faded like the others. I took a look at the shoes and found the shoes to all be dirty and worn down. I couldn't believe that they would even accept these clothing items to sale. I wouldn't even donate clothes in this condition. This one star is very very generous!!! My wife and I brought in a 15 gallon tub full of baby clothes my 5 month year old grew out of and doubles that he never wore or can't wear. The funny thing here is that they made us go and buy a plastic tub because they don't take cloths in garbage bags.... We drop it off for them to look over.. They called us too pick up our stuff which they reported the only took one outfit and said all the other stuff wad not summer and out of style. This is an absolute joke because the majority of the cloths were summer that my son can't wear and onesey's.. This is a horrible business.. Watch what you buy or give here. All my wife wanted too do was too help others and we thought this was a class organization. I was wrong!!! When we went up too pick up the cloths and told them we want our stuff back even the one outfit they took.. They told us once we ok'd it over the phone.. I loved going here to get toys for my now 9 month old because the prices are great and after a good cleaning the toys often look brand new. However after deciding to try to sell a small bin of baby goods, I will never shop or sell there again. I dropped off a small bin of toys and clothes only to be offered a measly $14, then I find half of my bin still full of stuff they wouldn't except, including a few of the unworn 3-6 month sized clothing. First I was told they only accepted sets in that size range, when I said a few of them were sets, I was told they were stained, when I said they had never been worn, I was told they looked faded, the clothes were washed one time! The funny thing is, I rarely buy clothes in there because you really have to search to find anything that still looks fairly new...some stuff looks like it's been through 3 or 4 kids. I really think the young girls in there were just being lazy and when they saw that there were a few shirts with no sets, they just didn't look through the rest of my bin for that size. It sucks because this is the closest consignment option for me but I may be making the haul up to the Ellicott City store instead, they have a bigger store with more options of everything although the prices are a little higher, in my opinion. read more

Ok. So even though the store associates don't greet you when you come in, the deals they have in the store are still worth going into. I was there today (12/5/15) and the deal was 70% off all green and yellow tag items. I had to stand in line for about 30 minutes. I was greeted, however, when I reached the register. The cashier was very nice despite how busy the place was. No associates in the store asked if I needed help but the place was pretty self explanatory. I purchased a double stroller frame with missing pieces called to inform management on my situation and was put on hold for 10 mins before I ended call (no one ever came back to phone) The frame is in poor condition but I didn't really notice until I got home and tried to put it in use they didn't even have the decency to wipe it clean yuck first and last time but this is exactly why I don't do used items. I'll spend the 80 for a new one and they can have the old worn down 40 buck stroller frame. DO BETTER!!! read more

I LOVE this place!!!!!!! Lightly used clothes for the babies. Some garments still have tags on them. You can also bring in your bucket of clean, lightly used clothes (children size) and get paid for it. Store is always clean and put together. The staff seem to always want to assist. read more

I had 2 bins with all great items. Nothing was stained, marked, stretched ext. Most stuff clothes, but also had a good amount of toys that the kids hardly played with. They took 2 of my ergo baby carrier , 27 clothing and 6 toys. They offered me $22.29 cash or $69.21 in store credit!!! That's a pretty big difference! I asked them if they could give me $20 in cash and $30 in store credit. Of course they said no. Not happy. More like "once upon a ripped off " Also the prices are not that great. First off, we live at least 45 mins to this store, which is the closest to us. They didnt have any pjs in my daughters size, which is the main reason we went there, but she summer clothes as well. Obviously with covid-19, we didnt bring our daughter to the store and we waited a few days before trying them on her. When we went to return the clothes that were too small, they declined to give us anything but store credit due to covid! If anything, you contract it from the clothes, not a wireless transaction to my bank account! So now, we have store credit to a store that is super far away, and doesnt have what we need. Clothing selection is decent, I can always find dresses for my girls however shorts for size 6 are slim pickings. Shorts for boys (size 7) are also slim pickings however we are shopping in the middle of May so it will be picked over. But we still found at least 7 pairs of shorts for boys and 4 for girls. But if you shop in the summer expect to be HOT! I don't know if it was a fluke but there was no A/C!! That is the only reason I'm giving it 3 Stars! It is sweltering in there which makes for very grumpy kids when you're trying to get them to try clothes on. read more
