They refused to take my one bin because they said they had too many, it was only 11am. I tried again 2 days later. They said I would need to leave and come back the following day. When I brought it to their attention I had to bring my child back inside the store for them to tell me I would need to bring every single item back inside the store for them to give me a discount. Tried dropping off a few boxes a few weeks ago and was turned away. So rule of plastic bin is being strictly enforced. I didn't complain and left. I had forgotten bins were preferred, but had never been turned away for bringing boxes. So I took those items to my other resale spot that has much friendlier service. Today, I returned with a plastic bin and another bunch of hew or almost new items and was told that the plastic bin was only acceptable if I stayed in store. I replied I couldn't. On my lunch break but that's not important. So the plastic open bin is not acceptable if you cannot stay, you now must have a bin with a lid on it. Awesome. For my sanity, I think I'll stick to my 2 other resale shops from this point forward. OUC is super convenient since it's in my daily work route, but it's become more of a hassle than it's worth. I sold some clothes here, they checked them out real fast and paid me pretty good. They didn't take everything but I was pleasantly surprised at getting 30 bucks. A few items I noticed that were up-priced were: The toddler tutus are 10.99/each in store while online the EXACT tutus are $8.99 for a BUNDLE of 6 !! I also noticed prices upped on learning toys- specifically a latches board - was $25 + tax in store however online/target/other local stores consistently marked it at $20-$22 - this wasn't a big difference in price but when you go to a second hand store I think most people expect to get the best deal. I visited this place based off a recommendation from a friend. The layout is clean and very well organized; however, the customer service and the prices were not good! I was shopping for an umbrella stroller and the price was the same price for a new one. Seriously?!? I also saw overpriced headbands. Personally, I wouldn't sell items to this place. My momma once told me that if I had dirt and rips in my clothes coming home from school, she could tell I had a good day. Once Upon A Child on 281N and Thousand Oaks defeats this theory in every aspect of the word "used". After a friend had mentioned how cheap their "used" clothing, toys, children's accessories were, I decided to have a look to find some dresses for my 7 year old for her first day of 2nd grade. This place was amazing. All of their items are used but there is NO way you can tell. They have a friendly staff that meticulously goes over each piece of clothing to make sure they are up to standard. I decided that afternoon to return with a tub full of clothes, but of course following my mother's theory of "have fun, get dirty" most of my things were returned to me as "too used". That was a little disappointing but I understand they have standards. The upside: I will only shop here for my children's clothing and toys because I know every item has been looked over for stains, tears, and heavy wear. After 5 dresses and a gymnastic suit, my daughter was fully outfitted for $30. In addition, they have eccentric items that can be custom made for really inexpensive. My daughter has a name uncommon to the "name tag" gift world, so today I picked up her specialty made barrettes. I will go back again and again, until my kids are age 14 - because that the last size they stock for. read more

I always leave disappointed and find my self wasting my time and gas to get here. I'm sick of once upon of child and their "new" policies put in place in an attempt to "catch up". As per usual I traveled here from elmendorf only to find out I'd have to come back in 2 -3 days for my things oh and risk my toys that are in my bin dropping into someone else's bin as implied by the check-in desk. The 2-3 days is what really got me though, this has been an ongoing issue since before covid started. Wait times were ridiculous hours long and you were required to pick up same day or if it became inconvenient to them you are allowed to pick up next day and now present day they are always days behind with the excuse that it's hard to hire right now. We'll obviously who would want to work with a company so unorganized and lacking in customer service. This is hardly a business anymore! On an added note what is the point of replying to your reviews with some insincere apology and a "we want to make this right" when you have the opportunity to be right you do it all wrong! Donate your clothes! The dollar, yes dollar they want to pay you for name brand clothing is not worth it. I hate to single out employees but I have to on this one. There was a young woman of color who works there with a terrible disposition. Completely unhelpful and had a nasty attitude. I have never been to a buy back store and thought what a cool experience this would be. Nope, she was rude from the beginning. Its unfortunate that this young lady acted as if she would rather be anywhere but at work. Everyone else in there was working and doing it with a positive attitude. I hate that she ruined my experience. I'll never understand people who work in customer service positions who can't handle the public. I used to shop here a lot. Customer service has tanked Then to boot stopped doing the stamp cards that give you 20% off your entire purchase now it's a 'point system'. They converted my existing stamped card which would have been filled and my 20% would have saved me $33. Instead under the new system I got 10 bucks. Be sure you know the rules before you take stuff in. I thought this would be convenient because I dropped my husband off for a Dr. Appt. (We live an hour away) you have to have it in a tub, I did. But.....it has to be a certain sized tub, not mine. And clothes laid flat, not neatly folded. NO ACCEPTIONS, not even for someone who can't really drop off and pick up later, or change bins. When I went back to get my offer...I was told I was give a STORE CREDIT for $57 & that they donated my $30 tub my items were in. I was not impressed. I went there to sell some clothes and I probably spent more in gas than what they paid me for some pretty expensive items. Some of them I decided not to even sell to them because donating them and receiving a tax deduction will be more beneficial than their offer. I also shopped around their store and their prices are okay, but I have found a ton of cute brand new clothes on sale in other stores for what they are asking for things. Also, some of their new items that they offer I could find on amazon for the same price or cheaper. My first experience here was great but i the past 6 months I have been extremely disappointed. The staff are not properly trained and can rarely answer a simple question I ask. On one occasion I was asking if a kid's table and chairs was still on hold and the employee told me yes and that I couldn't purchase it. Since my initial review, I've been back in no less than 5 times. Each time, I have bought something (usually several somethings). Overall - they have some great clothes and items for kids. The people are nice and friendly. I have no complaints there. However, I am dropping their score for one reason and I feel that it is an important one: Their receipts CLEARLY state that returns are allowed as long as they are made within 7 (SEVEN) days and with the receipt...HOWEVER, that is NOT ALL YOU NEED. They will NOT take the clothes back if you cannot also produce the TAG that was on the clothes. BE AWARE of this before purchasing or taking them home to try on...! I would have saved myself a trip all the way across town had I known this (becasue I had the receipt and it was the day after I purchased them...unfortunately, I took the tags off the clothes before we tried them on to make sure they fit.)...don't try to return clothes without the receipt, within 7 days, AND with the tags that were on the clothes!! read more

I seriously hate this location. I've sold several times and somehow they always seem to mess it up. They either loss my bags or condescendingly ask if perhaps my "husband" took it (I walk in alone). Today they forgot to tell me the scooter I took was not purchased and if I didn't return by the end of the day it would be a donation. I find their prices to be very appropriate, and if something is too much, then I just choose another item. Their selection for a consignment store is amazing. I know the store is largely dependent on the community sellers, but I have been a Once Upon A Child shopper in two states, and I have seen good options in both locations. They are not a thrift store, so don't expect thrift store prices. Most of the clothing that I have purchased is in the $4-10 range. However, I have found things for $2-4 too! I'm not above Target brand stuff, but I have also found some excellent brand names/higher end deals. read more

Although I don't buy from here often, I do try and sell. They are very particular when it comes to buying from you. You may have a decent or better than good object and still get denied because they have way too many. I guess because they are better known in San Antonio many people sell here. I have stopped going simply because it's not worth the hassle. My advice would be to search a smaller business and sell to them. They tend to buy way more from you. read more

Whoa, what!? I haven't reviewed Once upon a child? Unbelievable. Like most buy, sell, trade places you have to buy, sell, trade with the season. The first time I sold my daughters baby stuff I'll admit, I was very sentimental. When the cashier told me her stuff was worth $40, I was devastated. They had her first Christmas dress, first jackets, dress up shoes, boppy and a number of other "first" things. So I probably gave the poor clerk more attitude than she deserved. After my second time selling, I was prepared to be rejected. Lucky for me I wisely brought items in season. Now after my recent trip I'm a pro. I knew I had to get the puppy a door to keep him safe and I had some out grown Halloween costumes I could sell. So I decided to take them in late September. I got $10 for her costumes and got myself a $10 safety door. I am getting to be such a smart mommy. Shopping at places like Once upon a child helps! read more

I could honestly say I really like this place. My daughter is 4 months old and she obviously grows out of her clothes like crazy. So it's nice too come to a place that doesn't cost a lot especially when she will only wear clothes a couple times before she grows out of it. I'm not sure if you know but once upon a child will buy your baby products from you. They literally take everything from strollers to walkers to clothes to bath tubs and etc. Anyways my husband and I took a box of my daughters clothes that she already grew out of and we got $15. Which is way more than we were expecting and they didn't even take all of her clothes. read more

This place is well organized and smells great. They have quality items and are very picky at what they take in. I have found unique items they sell there as well. The swaddle blankets and clothes are priced really well and when they have a sale, even better! I would enjoy going there more if the staff was more customer service friendly. There is specifically one girl (dark curly hair) who is stand-offish when asking about certain things such as if they will lower prices at all if they've been on the shelf for a while. There is nothing wrong with asking. They also require everything dropped off in bins and folded flat which can be a pain. read more
