While my puns are known for their quantity but not quality (grin), I have made it a point to make my Yelp reviews about quality (and not quantity). This is my second Yelp review and I am going to add a bit of background. It is important so you have the perspective to see why I am giving OnDeck a 5 star rating. Over a 30 year period, I built a business providing specialized support services to Public Safety agencies - everything from emergency preparedness, to wireless communications, to video surveillance. This grew steadily, providing services to over 40 agencies, with 6 sub-contract engineers and a sales volume exceeding a million dollars a year with a growth rate in excess of 25% a year. Then, the economic collapse hit. In 18 months, I went from 16 active accounts (all supposedly stable municipalities - cities, state agencies, etc.) to zero. However, with home values collapsing, local tax revenue collapsed and cities panicked. All non-essential spending was cancelled. My projects require planning and long lead time. I pretty much lost everything (financially) and had to declare bankruptcy. Thank goodness for the support of family and friends! Being an entrepreneur at heart, I just dug in, weathered it out and started up again. This time with no employees, no capital and no credit. By 2012 I had rebuilt the core business model, was regaining volume and had made a number of long-term business decisions based on what I saw as future trends. Everything I do is based on 5, 10 and 20 year projections of needs and technology. As such, I am working on specialized smartphone Apps, 3D printing and other technologies. But, where to go for capital when your bank of 30 years won't loan you $100, no one will give you a credit card, and good luck even trying to buy or lease a car? Then I heard about OnDeck while researching business growth options online. And, to their credit, they listened. They looked beyond my FICO score. They looked at my published works, NASA award, prior business track record, quality of accounts I had in the past and was rebuilding in the present. Since my office of 25 years was in a historical building, making verification difficult, I was asked to send photographs - which I did. They were thinking out of the box! My initial contact at OnDeck was with Margaret Meredith. She was professional and got the ball rolling with my first operating capital and business growth loan. As time progressed, April Brown handled additional loans and was superb (I was told she was promoted). Recently, Matthew Olson has handled my most recent loan and did an exceptional job. He has tremendous energy and attention to detail. Note this please: over the last 3 years I have had 7 loans with OnDeck, each handled flawlessly and with totally smooth hand-offs between members of the OnDeck team as they have grown. My business has grown substantially over the last 3 years, I have invested in new products, services and Android Apps that will start to have positive revenue impact starting in 2016! OnDeck has not only allowed me to recover, but to plant the seeds for the next 10 years. Yes, I am not getting prime rates on interest, but the old-school banking industry is of no use or help to a recovering small business. I consider OnDeck a business partner, not a loan company. As a small business owner - Focus Opticians, I receive hundreds of offers and faxes concerning loans and out of bank lenders. I decided to try out On Deck because of their short terms and what I consider somewhat micro daily payments. The first loan through them was a little problematic, only because they require some documentation that takes some time to gather. But once they received it, and reviewed it, I was approved in 2 days. I completed half of the first loan term, then requested to reapply for more. They told me this would be possible at that point. With the submission of a few current bank statements, I was again approved in 2 days. The funds hit my account quickly. I do think their interest rates are high, but with this kind of loan term, understandable. I used the funds to market my shop. Design and manufacture my own line of private label eyewear, and enjoy a safety buffer in my account, as well. I can't speak for other small business owners, but my experience with On Deck has been stellar, and extremely the right thing to do for my business. I will continue to utilize On Deck for future funding needs. BTW, I have a really good credit rating and have owned and operated Focus Opticians for 20 years, and my bank would not even give me the time of day. The first representative I dealt with was Michael Skiba. He was extremely helpful and patient as he walked me through the initial steps. The last representative I dealt with was Nathan Shelly. He handled it in a very professional manner, and is upbeat and enjoyable to talk with, too. As far as the other reviews here, I'm not sure what "power" the reps have, but they seem to know what they're talking about, and have been able to answer my questions to my satisfaction. I would recommend On Deck to any small business that needs a short term shot in the arm. Once the loan is funded, it's up to the borrower how they use it. Working with OnDeck has been fantastic. And, yes, I do see it as working "with". Firstly, I'll say that I am writing on behalf of my business; a real business. No coercion, no paid incentives, and no disillusions about what OnDeck is and what they offer. Secondly, I'll say that I--along with any other reputable business owner--want the best for my business and my team. We had been working through the banks for years to try and receive a little capital infusion into the business with no luck. Time after time we were turned down. It's nearly impossible as a small business to really grow rapidly without capital. OnDeck offered a refreshing solution to this problem. Nobody is willing to give money to small businesses, and for that reason alone, the interest was more than worth the reward of having the cash in hand when we needed it. Money now is better than money later, and it's much better than money never. OnDeck offered the capital infusion we needed to make some very important business moves--and they have proved successful already. They were very upfront with their terms and their rates, and frankly, they were more than acceptable. We knew exactly what we were getting into and the daily payments make it so painless to pay back the loan. Do their rates work for consolidating debt? Probably not as they are higher than most credit cards. But that's not what we were looking for and that's not what they are either, I believe. Our customer service representative, Raymond Rogers, was a champ. He called me back at 8:30pm on a Thursday night to let me know that my application was received and that he would have an answer back for me the following day... the next day! I was very leary about applying and giving out so much crucial information. Doing a lot of commercial and state work, my landscaping company waits 30-90 days to be paid for work performed. OnDeck was able to provide me with a credit line to fill the gap. Ryan Kornhaas, my loan officer was awesome. I applied online after receiving an invitation to apply through my Quickbooks software. Ryan called me less than 30 min after applying. I immediately told him I changed my mind and to close my application. He asked why and I told him I did not feel like getting tax returns, statements etc...from 3 years back as my credit union requires. He said I was already approved for a credit line. I was in disbelief. After a 2 min app?! No way! He had me register online, accept the line of credit and poof!! I had a $15,000 line of credit. My credit was mediocre so I was still waiting for the, oh yeah I want your life history before you use the money...Ryan actually told me to draw from the line for practice and put the funds back if you don't want to use them. So I request a $5,000 draw and the money was in my account the next day! How is that for fast? I called Ryan back and received a voicemail. I hung up, but he called me back 2 seconds later...Can I help you? The customer service is awesome. My payments come out once per week automatically which is perfect for me. I was very much against daily payments because it would be very hard to balance my account. I am very busy, so the fact that no one is hounding me or trying to sell me other products is wonderful. Ryan hasn't bugged me since, but I know he is there if I need him. I shoot him an email, and he answers back promptly. Thats it. I am sure I will work with Ondeck for years to come. While looking at short term funding as a way to build up our business credit rating (only been trading since January 2014) we came across OnDeck and (given that I read a great article about their CEO ) we decided to try them for a loan... PROS -They extend loans to small businesses that are at least a year and can show that they've maintained a minimum daily balance of 7K -The application process took about 10 minutes and we got an answer in 4 hours -Our loan agent (Kevin Dunn we LOVE U!) made the process a breeze (we had to supply additional documentation) and I can tell that he knows small business lending inside out.... I've dealt with other companies competing directly with OnDeck, but NOBODY has come close to Kevin (he really impressed me) -Got direct deposit into our account a day after signing loan agreement -This loan will count towards our business credit score (yay!) -Instead of a monthly payment, they take small amounts on a daily basis (Monday-Friday only) for the term of the loan -We have the option to pay off 50% of the loan and the interest for the remaining balance will be "forgiven" if we apply for a second (larger loan) at a much lower interest rate -Given the fact that we'd only been trading for 2 months (back when we applied), they only agreed to a loan amounting to 10% of what they estimate our yearly revenue will be... CONS The interest rate for this unsecured loan worked out for us higher than what we got from Paypal Capital (their direct competitor now) BUT I was able to negotiate this down after I dismissed their first offer and told them that Paypal was already offering me a better interest rate We feel that this loan works very well in addition to the working capital we get from Paypal and I've recommended OnDeck to many people in my network read more

I'm totally impressed with OnDeck. I have a small manufacturing business in Detroit and I was in need of capital to build enough inventory for the quickly approaching holiday season. I was increasingly getting worried as I was running out of time. I applied for a loan from OnDeck on a Wed. and was approved on Friday! The entire process was much simpler than a traditional lender and that left me able to continue focusing on daily operations. I was really pleased with my interest rate, it's very fair considering the age of my company and it's still considerably less than if I was using a credit card. I also really appreciate the repayment terms since I can pay small amounts on a regular basis and not big lump sums monthly, it makes managing my cash flow easier to monitor. The loan officer I worked with, Justin, was incredibly helpful and professional. He took the time to understand what my business does and why I needed this funding. I wish all my B2B experiences were this pleasant! I'm really pleased that this loan will also help us build our business' credit history (we had not business credit history prior to this because the trade credit we have with other companies is not the kind that gets reported to credit bureaus) which will help us tremendously down the road when we are seeking larger funding sources for bigger growth opportunities. I'm sure this type of funding is not right for every business since a key piece of this loan repayment if having regular, steady revenue. Our retail sales provide that for us, but if you were in a start up phase you'd likely not be in the position to show consistent cash flow. I received many offers in the mail from On Deck and chalked it up to solicitation and a scam. I'm always skeptical, it's just my nature, as a business owner, especially in this day in age. Finally, I did a little (well, alot!) of research because I really needed some new equipment to boost sales as well as a little breathing room while going through our slow season. After checking numerous reviews and with the BBB, I decided to apply online. It was quick. I wasn't even off the computer before one of their reps, Tiffany was calling to see if I needed any help applying. I let her know that I had just sent the application and she was working on it in minutes. She called along the way, offering guidance and even worked harder to get more money for the business, as she knew I needed it. All I had to do was sign a few forms via email, scan in copies of my drivers license and tax return, and that was it. I was funded from start to finish in approx. 3 days, not including the weekend. The money was in my bank account when she said it would be and the follow up has been great. They even sent me a Dunkin Donuts gift card to say Thank you for my business, along with a HAND WRITTEN card. I never thought it was possible to obtain a loan, after many turndowns from local banks and our local SBA office. Yes, is it a pricey loan? For sure. But, it was all I could get and someone was finally willing to take a chance on me. Perhaps a few high interest loans will in turn yield a good APR one of these days. I own a small independent auto repair facility with 8 emplyees, and we were looking to expand into the parts sales industry. I received a letter in the mail from OnDeck last week, and I responded by email. I received an email back saying that I would have to call in to get the funding approved. My company is currently experiencing quite a bit of growth, so right now I am a hectic owner. The rep from OnDeck (Emily) actually called me back, which was great since it kept slipping my mind. After talking with her for about 10 minutes and getting my company info, we were approved for our loan. The funds were in the bank the very next day (I chose wire transfer, and it was 5:00pm when we completed the process or I would have had it the same day). The interest rate is higher of course, but that is something you expect when you are not getting a traditional loan from a bank--my bank did not even want to give me a line of credit since we have been in business only 3 years! The method of repayment is actually mroe attractive to us, most of the other lenders want to hijack your cc processing service and take out their fees, then send you the remainder. Well i read up on that and sometimes your money can be tied up for 4 or 4 additional days, and for a small business this can be very detrimental! I read the reviews of OnDeck and while I feel bad that some did not get their funding, I have to say there are NO guarantees in this life except death and taxes. I began using OnDeck in November 2014. It was a little lengthy setting up the initial account, but overall I can't complain about the process. I have all of my data in Quickbooks, so it was easily obtained along with bank statements and references. If it weren't for the funds I received from Ondeck, I would not have been able to manage my cash flow problems. It is not a quick fix. You need to crunch the numbers and do your future income forecasts to make sure you can handle the daily payments. I cut it too close and used up my one week grace period within the first few weeks of opening my account, but I got back on track and it's been working out as expected. There's no scam about the process and the service. If you know what you're doing and understand the benefits, it is a very helpful tool for the small business owner. I have since opened up two additional loans with Ondeck through Susannah Nevins and she made the whole process happen so quickly! It really is much easier after the initial loan. My second loan was easier to set up. I sent her an email, got my 3 months bank statements sent to her and in less than 24 hours, it was completed and approved. Susannah helped me on my third one as well while I was over the road driving. There is a strong need to understand the hard money lending industry, to understand an industry we need to have the education to realize the nature of it, hard money lending is NOT for everybody and is not even fair to be compared with other areas of the lending universe ! The use of credit has been a human practice since the beginning of times, and it all depends on the interests of both sides of the situation, but after all, it serves the purpose of satisfying someone's need with someone else's resources... based on the level of relieve provided and the return to the provider, that could be always affordable depending on the leverage of the help received. I honestly think On Deck is, (for what I found) the easiest, most courteous, and fastest company I found out there after doing a very thorough research, and diligent shopping in this particular industry. Nicholas (the financial consultant who took are of me) was very knowledge-full and detailed oriented on the important things of my contract and also a good advisor in respect of improving the situation of my business for futures loans I may need. OnDeck was a pleasure to work with. My sole member LLC had no credit as a business. They were extremely accommodating and understanding. They explained the underwriting process thoroughly and what was necessary to be approved. I personality felt that if my loan had a less than decent chance of being approved that I would have been told upfront. OnDeck certainly stands to gain nothing from unapproved loans thus why would they use their time and resources if they didn't think approval was a good possibility. There was no up-selling or bait and switch tactics that can be common in the non-traditional lending world. I believe I had the personal credit necessary to obtain a SBL from my top-five national bank. But, after going through the mortgage process with my bank, which was a total exercise in frustration and incompetence, I decided to try OnDeck. The loan process was a day at Central Park compared to dealing with my national behemoth bank. The repayment process is different but WAS not anything unexpected. I was clearly informed before loan submission what the terms of repayment were. Just this week, I reached the 50% repayment threshold on my original loan and was offered a new loan with fresh capital which I took advantage of. I have worked with On Deck for a couple years now. They make getting funds for your business simple and easy. Within an hour, I was approved and funds were in my account the next day. After paying down 50% of my loan, I was eligible to apply for more funds. I sent over 3 months of my bank statements to my dedicated loan renewal specialist Nick L. Nick followed up with me several times during my first loan to see how things were going and to let me know that I was eligible to apply for more funds. I needed funds quickly to keep my business moving and do not have the time or energy to feel like some loser to my local bank which is basically how I have been made to feel over the last several years. As a first time customer of OnDeck, I was extremely pleased and, a little surprised I must admit, at the level of service; courtesy; and quality handling I received. It was refreshing to work with a company where business principles such as being an advocate for the customer; belief in their product and services; setting expectations and doing what they say they do was the norm. Like many new small business owners, I was looking to establish business credit and aid with cash flow. I reached out to OnDeck late Thursday afternoon inquiring on a modest 20K loan. John Lloyd, Sr. Lending Advisor, got the ball in his court and ran with it. He was very professional, set the expectations and was very clear to the information he would need to process my request. And, as other reviewers have mentioned, the information required is what any organized business owner should have readily available. We communicated multiple times via phone or email and, John had me approved by Friday evening... funds posted to my financial institution on the following Tuesday. As you should expect, the corresponding interest rate is a little high but not unreasonable given my business has been open 16-months. The trade off is the ease of doing business with OnDeck; and, allowed me the ability to begin establishing business credit. We have been in business for 8 years with a steady growth since we opened and has been a challenge at times to have the capital just to take on new accounts and we approach Chase two times (our bank) to help but after extensive requirements they still come back with tons of excuses typical of a huge bank with a lot of people in charge of the underwriting with only one instruction from their executives to bring risks to a minimum which I wonder who are those candidates (only the Royal Class) because if you are with all those requirements why the need of loans ? but anyways we came across On Deck and it has been a very good experience to deal with smart people that go to the point, they can tell if you are doing ok and you need a push creating a relationship of mutual benefit what banks should be doing if they were not that big. It doesn't take to much science to figure out that there is a huge potential out there, where small businesses have been left alone. I am happy there are smart business guys taking advantage of it. In an attempt, to work on building business credit after hitting our 2 year mark and increased successes with our business, we reached out to On Deck loans. We saw that they had relatively good reviews, commercials. It seemed to be a great fit. After working with José Real at OnDeck, my business parter submitted everything we needed. Unfortunately there were some bank errors when downloading some records, which were rectified with our credit union, directly from a person at the bank to Jose. Jose kept feeding us line after line about how he was on our side, he was going to get everything taken care of and how great everything looked. And then Jose disappeared and we didn't hear back from him. It's now been almost 2 weeks since we last heard from him, even though he said he would have an answer a week and a half ago. We wouldn't be upset if the loan needed further information, or if we were approved; either way, we just wanted an answer. On Deck is incredibly full of hot air, unprofessional and a COMPLETE waste of time. Save yourself the effort and apply with another company. We have been approved with a few other lenders and chose the lender that had the best rates. I know our business would lose customers if we didn't respond to them. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE JOSE. Okay I looked at all the reviews before I wrote mine and I can say the negative reviews are defiantly not justified. The work very hard to get you a loan yes in today's business environment it can be frustrating to proof the aspects of your business but if they are true they fund you very fast, couple days at the most. I am on the third loan and can say without a doubt that they are hard working for small business owners, compassionate and caring. I would recommend them highly for anything looking for a business loan. Customer service returns all calls and emails promptly, they are very clear about any additional documents you need to provide once the loan is approve to closed. This is so much better then a bank loan and fast. Try closing a bank loan in a week its not going to happen, On deck funding on three loans less then one week each time. Get your documents in order and apply, anything additional needed they send you a list and work with you to complete. If you need help they are there to talk you thru the process, get you to closing, fund the loan and follow up. This is a 5 Stars Business! So far, we've had a really good experience with OnDeck. I was really, REALLY skeptical at first, thinking that this was going to be some kind of scam or that we just wouldn't get approved. But we were approved and we were given a small "starter" loan, which will help us get a van for our deliveries. The terms of the loan are very easy to understand and Nick F., who helped us with the process, was very willing to answer questions, no matter how stupid the question seemed to me. It does take a couple of days to get the money but the application process was just two or three days, and that was because it took us a couple of days to dig up our tax records. It''s really NOT like trying to get a loan from the bank--it's much easier if you qualify. And paying the money back is easier because they take it out of our bank account daily in small increments, so we don't have a huge payment once a month. Personally, I think it's a great way to get a small business loan for truly small businesses who struggle with enough cash flow to grow the business or get a traditional loan. I applied with OnDeck as a well-qualified business owner expecting a fair and professional process. Instead, what I experienced was dismissive treatment, poor communication, and an utter lack of effort when it came to verifying my identity. A representative named Madison Simons handled my application and denied it without even attempting to verify my information properly. No outreach. No clarification. Just a flat-out denial based on something that could have easily been resolved with a simple phone call or email. That's not how you treat a serious applicant -- especially not one with a strong credit profile and years of experience running a legitimate business. When I raised my concerns, I wasn't met with any understanding or attempt to remedy the situation. It was clear that I was just another number to them. As someone who takes pride in their work and reputation, I found this dismissive attitude completely unacceptable. I'm not a desperate borrower -- and I don't appreciate being treated like one. OnDeck had the opportunity to earn my business and completely fumbled it. This review reflects my honest experience, and I hope it serves as a warning to other business owners looking for responsive, respectful service. Look elsewhere. read more
