Stopped by One Eyed Penguin and had a solid dive bar experience. Drink service was fast, and the drinks were par for the course in taste for this type of bar. The bathrooms were relatively clean, which is always a plus. Be aware there are about 25 steep steps to enter. The patio offers a view of the outside and has heaters, making it a nice spot to hang out. read more

This bar was a cool find. You have to be looking for it because it is easily missed with a single door leading to stairs to enter the second level. The bar is a "bar" vibe, music, drinks, decor, it was a good experience for us playing with the one pool table and the punching game. The service was good we were able to get our drinks quick. It's taken over a year to right this review. I went to this place in January of 2025 and was assaulted by the bouncer. I was in the bathroom and when I left my date had went to get the car. So as I was leaving and being careful on the stairs going down the bouncer told me I wasn't going fast enough and was behaving inappropriately . I told him I'm just trying to be safe as it's a lot to stairs. I took out my phone towards the end of the stairs to capture his comments and traveling and he tried to grab my phone. I held up my hand to stop him and grabbed me and pushed me in the head. This man was about 6'4, 280, Caucasian and much bigger than me. Then my date saw it and intervened and he acted like he didn't just assault me. I did the best I could with screenshots of the guy as tempered he tried to take my phone. If you go Beware! So scary I passed by this place just now and remembered how bad I felt and I still don't like to go to the area. But anyways just wanted to share so no one else will go through what I had to. read more

as an industry worker i was harassed for not tipping over 30% and not served because we didn't tip over that. we as in the four other people we were with all are industry workers (bartenders) and have never experienced service like this. wouldn't recommend to anyone. and it takes a lot for us to be mad but this was horrible service read more

Holy cow! Was visiting friends in Dallas and because one of them lived downtown, I did a Yelp search for dive bars. This place came up, sounded intriguing, so we walked over there. You have to look for the door at street level, then walk up a flight of stairs to the One Eyed Penguin. And what a place it is!!! When is the last time you hit a dive bar and found it to be fun? They were hosting karaoke the night we came in, and the "singers" made up in enthusiasm what they lacked in talent. Decently priced drinks. I don't live in Dallas, but whenever I return, I'll be back. read more

Where do I start. We order 2 drinks Honey Jack and pineapple and deep Eddie's with splash of sprite. Sad to say there was ZERO alcohol in these drinks. No big deal we go to the bar, one bartender says I didn't make the drinks, the other said "it's not my problem if you can't taste the alcohol".... I needless to say we wont be back. read more

Regarding hours. Not about the experience there because we didn't have one. I did suggest an edit to the yelp team to alter the hours. Wandered in there at 3:20, was told by the unsmiling gentleman behind the bar let us know that they do not open until 4. Maybe it's a one off. Looked put off by it. Website says they open at 11 am on Saturday. Honest mistake considering the information I was given from their website and yelp. read more

OEP is a locals spot, and I'm grateful that I was sent here from another locals spot. This isn't a pretentious, bougie bar. It's a comfort, chill, talk shop with your buddy, unwind after a long day spot. Orrr just nod to the good tunes, while you beat someone at pool. The bartenders were nothing but kind to me, and completely entertaining. While I can understand other reviews... I think a big part of customer service here is how you treat them and their establishment. *shrugs* I came here solo, made friends, had strong drinks, and felt like I was family of sorts, instead of an outcast (which is nice when you're usually a wallflower). Hell, I even had help unzipping my costume from a sweet gal by the bathroom (bless that angel wearing jeans). If you stumble in here, err, upstairs, please treat them with some hospitality. read more

My date an I were looking for a cool , chill bar after leaving the Exchange downtown. He found this one online an once we arrived we were already intrigued by its colorful lite staircase to get inside. We made our way up an it wasn't busy at all (it was the 4th of July). There were hand sanitizers at all tables. We sat at the bar an the female bartender asked what we wanted. I got a Sex on the Beach an he got a Sour Shirley. We proceeded to go out on the patio an enjoy our drinks. The vibe was great with really good music. Theres even a pool table! I'd definitely go back! Was trying to find a place to have a drink with a coworker. Everyone at the bar was under the influence of something more than alcohol or weed which was very evident. Stood at bar for 15 min and was never acknowledged. We left and went somewhere quieter and with a better atmosphere. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The bartender was so rude. I had asked super nicely whenever she was ready if I could order something with her. she said ok?! what do you want. I replied with could I have something sweet? she replied with so you want me to make you something... Basically after that she charged me 14$ for a small drink. My experience was totally ruined by her. I've worked in the service industry and yes work can be tiring but you NEVER should give attitude to a customer especially when I asked super nicely. I told all my friends with me and we will never be returning. I cannot stand for shitty service. It is one thing if the drinks are not good but it's so much worse if the customer servuce is absolute trash. The bartender should not be working here anymore. read more

I tried to love this place. After my wedding I came here and I brought about 100 people which you would think would be welcomed during covid. Instead they were rude as hell and made me (the bride) pay $50 to get in because I didn't have my Id in my wedding dress. I tried to support local and it backfired. Also Richard is the worst.
