Wow! Who knew you could get these awesome sandwiches. They use the most delicious bread which is toasted to perfection. $17 is the price for all regular sandwiches. I opted for the turkey club. I got a sampler of cookies. The prices are a tad high as they are essentially bite sized but they are good quality. I had the following- Lucia-Chocolate caramel shortbread layer bar Juliette-Hazelnut sandwich cookie with cinnamon chocolate ganache Penelope-Almond and apricot Lana-Chocolate sandwich with raspberry buttercream Favorite of the bunch was the Lucia as it was last time it seems. For being chocolate and caramel, it's pretty well balanced and not too overly sweet and the shortbread was excellent. The Juliette was OK though a tad sweet (could have used more hazelnut and less chocolate) but the cookie had good texture. The Penelope was fine though much more apricot than almond and the cookie was light. I wasn't a fan of the Lana as the raspberry buttercream was way too sweet and the sandwich was a bit soft. In love with their bite sized tea cookies and regular sized cookies! My favorite reg. cookie is probably the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip because of the lightly crisped edges with its chewy center. It even has a slightly flaky exterior which I love too and I am obsessed with this flavor especially when I dip it in a yummy hot cup of coffee. I'm also obsessed with these tea cookies: Lucia: chocolate caramel shortbread layer bar Lana: chocolate sandwich cookie filled with raspberry jam Juliette: chocolate cinnamon ganache sandwiched between two hazelnut cookies chocolate chip cookie. The cake slices here are perfectly moist and fluffy. Service is 10/10. Staff is so lovely and I can tell they love the food there as much as I do. This is a very cute spot that I've been eyeing for YEARS and finally had a chance to stop by. Their set-up and seating is great and I love the little extra gift-y items they have to buy. However, I was floored by just how expensive this place is, for possibly the tiniest cookies I've ever seen. I didn't even want to buy any of the cookies because it just didn't seem worth the money. The attendee was helpful and gave suggestions, but he just kind of stood there and watched us while we tried to decide what to get, which made us a little uncomfortable. My friend and I ended up getting the orange olive oil cake slice, lemon bar, and vanilla gelato to split. I didn't get any orange flavor from the cake and thought it was generally dry and crumbly (granted it was later in the day so it had probably been out all day). The lemon bars were fine. The gelato was great, but a tiny portion. Overall, a cute spot but I just don't think the quality justified the absurd price point. read more

The best place I've found in the neighborhood to sit and think for a while, work, write in a journal, meet a friend. They have a bunch of seating that doesn't feel cramped, they have pretty good coffee and very good snacks. Happened upon this cute coffee shop looking for an afternoon chai tea latte pick me up. I initially walked in thinking it was a bakery, but was pleasantly surprised that it served tea and caffeinated drinks. The price was definitely right with this coffee shop and It ended up being cheaper than my usual order in DC! I get the chai tea latte and it was made very fast. The chai was really yummy and once it was all mixed in, it was great and refreshing for my walk around Brooklyn. There were people working inside the cafe, so it definitely looks like a place where you can stay and work or just hang out and drink coffee. I adore this little bakery and coffee shop! Pre-covid, I used to work here with my laptop and nibble on their delicious tea cookies, enjoying a peaceful atmosphere with great music. For my baby shower, we ordered a cake here and it was absurdly delicious and beautiful...and just yesterday, we enjoyed a One Girl cake for our daughter's second birthday! I can only review on the tea cookies and the s'mores. I really liked the s'more's cookie, the Graham cracker was crunchy, they add a thin layer of chocolate between the cookie and the homemade marshmallow (top and bottom). When you bite into it, you get the crunch from the cookie, the chocolate hit, and the chewy lightness of the marshmallow. Fantastic job on this...only thing missing is the toasty char on the marshmallow! Now if I were to review on the s'mores alone...this would be a 4 star. We also bought some of the tea cookies, but I didn't like any of them. Some flavors were to strong in some, or not balanced. A sweet little spot on Dean Street. I don't remember how we found this, but we've been coming here for years. The desert selection constantly changes, which I love. Just recently, I fell in Love with the pumpkin whoopie pie. Everything is done with special care and it this permeates in the cookies and cup cake bites. This is my kids' absolute favorite bakery in the neighborhood and that's saying a lot considering there's an infinite amount of places to get cupcakes and cookies in the area. They love coming in and picking out the cookies by name and have long ago memorized all the options. Came to a cookie place... and didn't get cookies. Instead, we got the hot chocolate (with a marshmallow of course) and their special, a chai spiced cake. This place looks pretty cool - it's got really cute decor when you walk in, and a seating area converted from a garage. They've got a chalkboard menu with some calligraphy and even a family tree and portraits of family members on the wall. Service was fine, nothing too remarkable. The pictures of the cookies looked great on the wall, but they were just so tiny in person! The chai cake was pretty good though I have to admit I liked the cake part of it more than the icing. The cake itself was pretty moist, but I didn't get much of that chai flavor. The hot chocolate was also solid. I still love their cakes in general, they're always moist, dense and sweet; all things that I love in cakes. This particular slice of vanilla cake with an orange glaze and coconut buttercream, wasn't my favorite. The orange glaze was the only thing wrong with this cake, but the orange flavor was overpowering it messed up what was otherwise a delicious cake. The coconut buttercream was so good! Amazing flavor and perfect sweetness. I did not like the blueberry bran muffin. To be fair, it was my 12 year old's choice and she loved it (she's not into the cakes, that was my pick). The blueberries were tiny and not the plump, almost syrupy blueberries I'm used to having in other muffins. It was loaded with seeds, which I loved, but it worsened the fact that the muffin was too dense even without them. I usually love everything I try here, so I'm not discouraged. Alright, misogynist statements aside, I really really like this place despite my general aversion to the senselessly cute because the store, while being absolutely adorable, keeps the saccharine in check. One Girl Cookies operates out of a storefront on Dean Street, from where you can peer in through a well lit window. When you enter, a small brass bell attached to the door rings-- timelessly classic. The entire store is painted in Mayan blue (think Dodgers blue meets sky blue) with white accents. Everything is bright and inviting. And because the store is rather clutter free and with simple furniture, it feels clean and not over-the-top. And then there are the cookies. They are tiny, dainty, and absolutely cute. If Hello Kitty and the Queen were to have snack time, they'd eat cookies from here. And each individual cookie so perfect, which is amazing for me, the famed pastry chef of mutant-shaped entities. Here are my favorites: Penelope: A nutty butter cookie with apricot jam in the center. Olga: A mint chocolate sugar cookie sandwich. The sugar cookie is simple but perfectly sweet, and the mint chocolate is subtle and creamy. Lucia: Shortbread on the bottom, caramel in the middle, and marbled chocolate on the top. The shortbread is amazing with rich flavors, the caramel has great texture and richness, but the chocolate gets a little lost in all the flavors. Still really delicious. I thought that the chocolate chip cookie and the biscotti were pretty standard, and didn't taste any different from other places as the chocolate chip cookie reminded me of Famous Amos. If you're ever near by, stop in. It's a little different from what you'd expect from a bakery, being neither shabby chic or cute overkill. The cookies are small, but they also let you take the time out and appreciate each bite. Plus, the people here are so friendly and smart. And misogynist or not, eating dainty cookies while watching little girls in princess dresses is always sweet. read more

Call me narcissistic, but I seriously think One Girl Cookies deserves two big thumbs up for naming a cookie after me. That's right, the Cecilia - a bitesized mocha cream sandwiched between chocolate wafers. Besides that specific, totally awesomely-named creation, they also have a variety of other tea cookies (sold by a minimum of 4) with different girly names. I really like that they also carry vegan options; although my vegan days are way behind me, I am still very much captivated by vegan desserts whenever I see them. The vegan chocolate espresso crumbly cookies and vegan ginger snaps I tried were both great. Not too sweet, allowing the natural flavorings to shine through. The bf had one of their ice cream whoopie pie sandwiches, with vanilla ricotta ice cream between chocolate whoopie pie, as it was a hot summer afternoon. The ice cream sandwich was premade, packaged and frozen - however it was amazing because the whoopie pie cake somehow managed to stay very soft and pillowy. I'm not sure how they do it, but it's freaking awesome! What really puts this place over the top for me is the decor, ambiance and congenial service. I love the airy, loft-like space that totally showcases all of their desserts in their glory, along with plenty of seating in the adjacent converted garage area. They also have a full coffee bar which appears to be very popular in the neighborhood. One Girl Cookies has something for everyone. Their salted caramel pistachio cake. What the heck! When I think of an awesome american cake I think of this. Cake moist, bee-yuuuuuu-tiful crumb and texture, and flavorful! The frosting isn't even my favorite type (I prefer lighter italian or swiss meringue buttercreams) but that salted caramel hit the spot. But when does salted caramel not? Also the pistachio toffee on top and the filling rules. I want to roll around in this cake and then lick myself clean. Gross. But I'll definitely be clean afterwards. TRUST.
