Went in for lunch and made sure to have a reservation. The place gets pretty busy, even on bad weather days. They had a lot of sandwich and salad options, along with entrees. They have great portions for all of their lunch, leaving you filled up regardless of what you order. I ordered the greek salad and the portion looked like a mound of salad! It also tasted delicious and fresh. It's not bad in pricing, for a downtown location. The service was also very good. Our server was very attentive and made sure we were in and out within the hour. The place is lovely and very convenient if you're attending the opera across the street, which is what I was doing with my friends. We had a large reservation and I got there early. They were really sweet and offered me the chance to sit at the table when I arrived but opted to just sit at the high tops they have at the entrance. Once the rest of the party arrived, we went to the table. The service was lovely and kind. They brought the menu of mocktails that was by the entrance when asked. The docking of stars only comes from the food and price. The food for all of our choices was just okay. Nothing to rave about. This was a bit disappointing as the price, which I'm sure is increased because of the clientele and location of the place, is a bit higher than what the food is worth. After seeing the menu and the prices, we made a decision to go at happy hour. It's quite a deal for those willing to wait for it. This also avoids the big lunch crowds of downtown workers. A lot of those people don't need to worry about saving a few bucks. For those who are more thrifty, the happy hour is the best hour. Actually it's a couple hours for deals on both drinks and food. The specials vary per day of the week. It's $10 for cocktails. On Fridays it's a Manhattan. These were strong. As for the food it has a few appetizers. It's $10 for happy hour. We got the Traditional Hummus, with it being one of the few vegan friendly items. It was a decent amount. This comes with cucumbers, kalamata olives, lemon zest, pita chips, and tomatoes. It was a good amount of food for an appetizer. The regular menu features super expensive things such as seafood and more. Get here at happy hour. It's a lot less expensive for some good stuff. We ordered the hot mess sliders and buffalo sliders. The hot mess was good, the buffalo sliders was a little salty which is sometimes the case with buffalo flavored foods, would've liked more blue cheese and a little more sauce... we ordered the gouda cheese balls and chicken potstickers which was decent- the sauce definitely made it better. One North has an average menu with American standards, such as burgers, salads, and calamari, to name a few. On my visit with work colleagues, the main goal of the waitstaff was to serve food and clear plates. If you had questions about the menu they directed you back to to the menu. It was often hard to find our waiter too. Overall the restuarant felt cold (not temperature) and transactiona with no added valuel. If the waitstaff were more welcoming and warm, that would be a start. read more

They were short staffed, the waiter was so swamped that the chef took our drink order... then they needed my date to Google what a daisy cutter martini was. Typical loop prices, but nothing you can do about it. Decided to switch it up and get my first salad in a long time. The New Mexico spinach salad was great. I really enjoyed how juicy the cherry tomatoes were and the amount of beans and corn on top of the spinach. The chipotle-lime vinaigrette was sweet but tasty. I frequented this place pre-pandemic when I worked in the Civic opera house. The other evening I was trying to meet a friend for drinks on a Thursday, and there aren't many choices in the area! (The Townhouse was closed for a private event!!) Anyway, this place was hopping! Lots of coworker type groups, we sat at the bar and had super friendly service. Great wine choices, and above average food. I ordered a BLT and subbed out my fries for roasted Brussel spouts (def worth the $4!) the BLT had so much bacon on it I had to share with a friend. I didn't see my favorite chicken enchiladas with salsa verde on the menu, maybe they will bring them back?? Def worth stopping in if you need a bevvie and a meal. read more

We visited One North prior to an event at Lyric Opera House. You can't beat the location as it is directly across the street. It was very busy with happy hour crowd and pre-theatre folks. Food was very good (we split greek salad which was very ample and two of their taco offerings - pork carnitas and blackened fish), happy hour wine offerings were also tasty and were a good-sized pour (nothing worse than a stingy pour of wine). Our regular server left a lot to be desired, and it was ridiculously hard to track him down when we wanted to place an order or get another round of drinks and he really wasn't helpful in answering questions on the menu. The saving grace for this experience was Lawrence, who is Manager at this restaurant. He swooped in when we were about to lose it and made everything worthwhile. He was patient, speedy with our drinks, and really turned what we thought would be a bum situation into a pleasant experience. He is a gem and real asset. We did find out after the fact that One North was down two servers that night which makes Lawrence even more remarkable given the business of the restaurant. read more
