Came to Chicago for the day and checked out this spot. It's not hard to find and the venue is a nice size with outdoor seating. I sat at the bar and our server was friendly and observant. I ordered wine and a few cocktails. They had 3 cocktails during happy hour that were $10, wine was $8 and the beers were around that price. Average price in the area is about $10-18 for a cocktI ordered the blushing lady and another cocktail and they were really good. I also ordered the calamari for the appetizer. SN: it is not breaded. Lol. For my entree I ordered the scallops which were amazing! It was placed over spaghetti squash and some type of sauce. I would definitely order again. We went here for dinner before going to see a ballet at the Civic Center. The food was delicious, and the wait staff was attentive and very friendly. I had a Diet Pepsi and the Margetta Flatbread pizza for a appetizer and then I had the Fish and chips for dinner. I hope to come back into the city really soon! read more

We ate at One North Kitchen and Bar due to their proximity to the Lyric Opera. I have to give One North Kitchen recognition for their ability to get people in and out on a Lyric Show night. In fact they were so efficient we had time to kill between dinner and our show. The reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I found the food to be okay, but nothing that would draw me to the restaurant if I wasn't going to the Lyric. We tried the Gouda puffs, the risotto, the boullibase, and the turtle brownie. All was good. The Gouda puffs seemed to be prepared differently than how described on the menu. The menu description mentioned blueberry and pistachios but the plate didn't have anything that was the color or taste of blueberries or pistachios. Regardless we enjoyed the puffs as served. If you have Lyric tickets I recommend giving One North Kitchen a try. read more

Inviting modern environment that becomes busy and loud in the early evening, even midweek. Service was prompt and efficient; staff was courteous. Food and drink were good, not great, but for downtown Chicago, reasonably priced. Menu isn't extensive, but it is varied. First time dinning at this restaurant. Very disappointed. The online look and feel from pictures was great. The reality is that this is a sub par restaurant. The food we were served was terrible. We initially ordered appetizers which included Margarita Pizza and Humas. Stay away both terrible. Half our party wouldn't even try the Pizza based on presentation. As a taster it was horrible. The humas served with crispy chips was awful. We stayed despite the apps and decided to order burgers to get thru the meal. To our dismay the worst burger I ever had. Salty with liquid smoke added as seasoning. If you like a frozen pre made over cooked salty burger with horrible seasoning this place is for you. Very disappointing. read more

We came here for dinner not really knowing what to expect since the reviews for this restaurant were mixed. It was a rainy evening when we came so we welcomed anything warm in our stomach. The restaurant offered some specials and one of them was the salmon pasta with sage and butternut squash and peas. It sounded really good so the both of us ended up getting it. The dish did not disappointed. The salmon was so tender and moist, the pasta was cooked perfectly, the butter sauce was not overly greasy and the butternut squash was nice and sweet. We received great service here and closed down the restaurant at 9pm on a Tuesday night. We had sat here for almost 3 hours siting and talking and dining and never felt rushed or pressured to leave our table. Thanks so much! read more

Came here for a quick happy hour and it was good. Sat outside enjoying the nice spring time 80s and it hit the spot. We luckily got a table that was covered because a rolling shower decided to ruin the party. The patio had about 20 tables and didn't feel too crammed. The location of the restaurant is excellent. It is close by the Lyric Opera House and the various Metra train stations. I had the Paper Cranes and the Old Pal. Both were made with Bulleit Bourbon and I really enjoyed them. They were on the stronger side and it hit the spot. Highly recommend the Old Pal. They come in coupe glasses. We also got the Rhode Island Sautéed Calamari and the Buffalo Chicken Sliders. The calamari is not your typical fried squid because it was sautéed. I thought it was enjoyable and had a good zest to it. The buffalo chicken sliders though were excellent. The portion was good and the flavor was perfect. You will not be disappointed. The buffalo sauce was very tasty and way better than your typically buffalo sauce. Curious how dinner would be. Definitely will have to come back and check it out. This place is definitely a chill happy hour spot. Sometimes you just want it to be chill and this hits the spot. read more

Stumbled into One North Kitchen on a casual Monday evening, and was quite pleased by its relaxing and low key dining experience. One North offers a huge dining hall and vibrant bar. Glancing quickly over the menu, the whitefish, scallops and salmon caught my eye, particularly I was intrigued by the succulent salmon. The orange glaze and sweet potato purée pairing were absolutely essential in softening the otherwise very crunchy sweet potato crisps sprinkled on top. They're all winners on their own respective sides. One North's mac and cheese made the Chicago Tribune, so it was obligatory to try out their signature side dish. The mac and cheese come in either buffalo chicken or bacon + jalapeño. I must attest that it's addictive and hits you at the right level of comfort. I would come again to try the other two seafood dishes. read more

I came to one north for a work lunch. They had a last minute table for 5, which was much appreciated as everything else in the loop seemed to be booked. We were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and really cool outdoor patio. I ordered 3 tacos and they were exactly what I had hoped for - light and delicious. 1N's in the UBS building across from the Lyric Opera, which makes it a convenient location for both cultural buffs and business(wo)men alike - the clientele that frequent this joint are usually dressy. Even though I've worked a block away for over a year now, a $500 gift card from a BCR benefit (just goes to show that charity is always rewarding) finally brought me to this Townhouse sister. The fritto misto with chipotle mayo was above average i.e. better than Grand Lux's. Their scallops were tender and delicious. I'm a huge cheese fan, but picky of anything not cheddar, brie, camembert, comte or chevre. So I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the roquefort on kobe sliders- it was a mild yet distinctive contrast to the sweet red onion marmalade (think caramelized onions). Definitely worth a try. Going for drinks? Try Tuesday nights, where the "Taste of Tuesday" involves complimentary samples of a drink for all patrons after 6 PM. In light of current events, 1N's got some political-themed drinks running until early November: a "Dirty Politician", the "$1M Bribe", etc.etc. I had the Bribe, which was a ridiculously strong mojito-like concoction that made my mouth pucker, and a sweet, fruity Pom Peche martini, which was much more up my alley. Co-workers enjoyed some great pinot noir and for those with similar wine affections, 1N features a half-bottle list, which is perfect for those who like two with dinner. As with all restaurants in the Financial District, this place is packed between 11:30 and 1:30 (prime lunch hour), so if you're taking a client out for a meal, make a reservation beforehand. Ditto with happy hour/dinner hour, but if you get in, it's a boisterous and enjoyable spot. I'd put it in the same price range as Rivers and Lloyd's. Sleek, modern, and charming, One North Kitchen is a few notches above your casual dining (Bennigan's [RIP], Chili's, TGI Friday's, Buca, Rock Bottom, etc.) spot in décor. Oh One North you will not be the One I go to for any pre theater food in the Loop. Let's start with the beverages - I was under the impression that Lagunitas was on the happy hour special, turns out it was not... or they charge $10 a pint. I was a little blown away that a pint of beer was running $9.00 when comparable, some might say better, restaurants are in the $7-8 range for the same beverage. That typically would only rate as slightly annoying because it is the LOOP and one expects to be high grossed but combined with... A very rare burger, that was requested medium rare, and the fact that the salt level was so high on the fries (maybe the burger too), which were seriously mediocre at best causing one in the party to wonder aloud if they were from a pre cut grocery freezer bag, that all in our party were distracted throughout the performance we attended due to longingly wishing for the folks on the stage to pass us their water bottles. Seriously irritated my tongue to where it felt raw. Service that was meh. After arriving a little behind the rest of my party had we had to flag down a different server. twice. Once to get an aforementioned pricy beer and a second time to order food because our server "was doing something" and unable to attend to us one of two tables in the restaurant. Came here because I happened to be in the One North building and it was quite convenient. If I had to sum up my lunch experience in one word, it would probably be SALTY! I ordered the daily special Harvest Bowl ($12) and added grilled salmon on top (+$8). While the ingredients of the bowl (sweet potato, brussel sprouts, barley, etc) went well together, it was sooooo salty. Same goes for my salmon. It wasn't just a little salty, it was VERY salty. I had to continuously drink water to balance it out. One additional star because the service was great. It was my server's first day at One North and he was very, very enthusiastic and attentive. We went to one North Kitchen for a convenient and quick dinner before the opera. But it turned out to be one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was grilled with that delicious hickory taste and medium inside. BUT THE BEST PART OF OUR EXPERIENCE was our server, BIANCA! She got us quickly in and out with enough time to eat leisurely and enjoy our meal. She attended to our needs and accommodated us so that my friend was able to indulge in a delicious dessert, a brownie with ice cream. Looking for a great place to grab a drink or a quick bite? Then look no further than One North- an American brassiere that feels a little bit clubby with it's upscale ambiance. Sit outside on the large patio or come indoors to gather with friends at the mahogany paneled lounge, with a marble bar, modern art on the walls and a white table clothed dining area. Hard to believe that this is brought to you by the same people who own the Bar Louie chain! It is usually packed after work or before the Opera (it's right across from the Civic Opera House). While the ambiance says clubby- the noise level in the place says fun! so don't let the fancy coverings intimidate you. Drinks are expensive so know before you go that all that ambiance costs. The clientele are usually people from the building and you can hear snippets of business being discussed as the martinis are shaken. While I can only vouch for the drinks here- I have it on good authority that the risotto and the steaks are the best things on the menu. Next time you are looking to impress someone with an "after work" drink- take them to One North. Your good taste will coming shining through! read more

My friend works nearby and suggested this place to catch up over lunch. It is obviously a popular lunch spot as the wait list was over an hour but luckily we had reservations. We quickly grabbed drinks at the bar while we waited for the last of our party to arrive and were able to just carry our drinks over to our table when it was ready. The service was fast and friendly and we quickly ordered food after a few minutes. I wanted something a little lighter, so I got 2 orders of the Crispy Fish Tacos. They arrived piled high with shredded lettuce, a very tomato dominant pico de gallo, and a crispy slab of fried fish. The portion was generous but the execution wasn't quite right as the tacos were pretty soggy and were falling apart while I was eating them. My boyfriend ordered the Cheddar Burger and said it was just okay. Although it was cooked medium, the cook could not disguise the low quality meat used for the patty. My friend ordered the Roasted Turkey Club sandwich and thought it was pretty good. She also ordered a side of Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese to share with the group and it was pretty tasty, although indulgent. My friend Andy ordered the Seared Scallops and the plate was practically licked clean. It was beautifully presented and the scallops were well cooked. We were able to order, eat, and pay the bills within an hour, which was perfect for our lunch meeting. It's a fun place to eat with a pretty standard menu, but it works for the area. read more

It's a bar clearly designed for happy hours or grabbing a quick drink after the workday with coworkers and then heading home. I've been to One North a few times and I've had the same reaction every time: Good beers, poor food. The beer selection is solid and they always have a few great ones - Delirium Tremens and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale being two of my absolute favorites - and the prices are acceptable given the location, target market, etc. You're going to pay pretty much just as much as any other of this type of place. But the food's always been mediocre at best, poor on average. The best thing I had was the pork tacos which were ok, I've certainly had better - Prime Bar two blocks away has some great ones - but there just wasn't anything distinctive about the tacos. They didn't come with sides and were overpriced. I've had some other food but it's always been rather bland and overpriced. Good beer, bad food, convenient location. read more

On this particular Friday, it was pretty crowded at noon- so I'm glad we had a reservation made. The service was great and professional as well. I had the salmon nicoise salad and also shared the side of brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were delicious and tasty, far from healthy probably. The salmon nicoise salad was a big portion too and very delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly moist and tender. Overall, I would definitely come back for a nice work lunch. Came here for a weekday lunch was a fan of basically everything, from the food to the service to the environment. There's a wide variety of seating options, making this restaurant a great option for small or large parties. I ordered the risotto-- one of their more popular items. It was very well made, but just a tad too heavy for my personal liking. It was very very creamy, and while I enjoyed it a lot during the meal, my stomach didn't feel too great for the rest of the afternoon. Would suggest splitting this entree unless you have a monstrous appetite. Also ordered their mango sorbet dessert, which came as two scoops of sweet, natural-tasting sorbet over a bed of blueberries and strawberries. What stood out to me about the sorbet was how much it tasted like a real, fresh mango. None of that artificial tasting stuff at all! read more

There was only one other person at the bar! He told the bar guy and still 10 minutes before a gal came to finally check on me. I ordered a Rose, cheese and a beef slider. When the food came, I could not get her attention to tell her the filet slider was total gristle. I pushed it away- a bus boy grabbed it and threw it away.The waitress finally came to ask me if everything was OK. I SAID NO. She ordered me a replacement slider --I asked if she could pour just a touch of wine since I had finished the wine without food. She scuffed--poured about 1/2 " and commented " that's all I can give you" ---what an insult! I had to leave to go to an event --looked around for a manager but no luck. I always order from this place for takeout as my office is 1 building over. It's awesome because it takes 15 minutes max for my food to be ready and the menu is large. However, the "to go" takeout presentation needs some work. It's completely sloppy. I understand One North is not a Michelin start restaurant. The only reason I'm even commenting on the presentation is because it makes the food soggy and difficult to eat. Sometimes I order a taco and it's stuffed in a box and in the short walk back to my office it's a taco salad. One time I ordered a burger and it was so soggy I didn't even eat the bun. One North Kitchen is right down the street from my office and my manager and I were looking for a place to grab lunch and conduct my performance review. I suggested One North Kitchen hoping the food was good and wouldn't sway my review haha. We made a reservation for 11:30 and when we arrived we were seated right away. The menu had plenty of variety and opted for the grilled chicken sandwich while my manager went for the medallion salad cooked medium rare. After less than 10 minutes our food arrived and it looked great. My sandwich was huge but cut down the middle. It had spinach, bacon, tomato and grilled chicken while I opted to have the mustard left off. The bread was perfectly toasted/grilled and the fries the sandwich came with were light and perfectly salted. Quite impressed. As for my manager's salad, she loved it too however one of her medallions was a little more rare than medium rare but she commented that this was one of the better lunch places she'd been to in the loop. She's also originally from Paris so I like to think she knows a thing or two about great food. The service was quick and friendly, the food was good, and I'd gladly return. Of the places along Wacker or the river, this place is one of the better ones. We usually go to Rivers for business lunches but I think that's a thing of the past now... read more

My girlfriend and I went to One North as a pre-show date one Saturday evening. We were there relatively early (5:30pm) and the restaurant was maybe half full. Service was good, our server was a bit slow but we had time to kill so it wasn't an issue. We ordered an appetizer and we each had a drink. My companion ordered white wine which was served as a normal quantity in a normal-sized glass. I had a cocktail and it came out in a comically small glass. Seriously this looked like something from a kids set. The drink I ordered was the Cohasset Punch #2, which given the ingredient list should have been a nice bright drink with a decent kick. Mine tasted like some sort of kids juice box with almost no hint of alcohol. The drink was served with absolutely no flare - a simple orange peel garnish and that's it. If you were expecting Sex-and-the-City style cocktails you're not getting them here. You pay $14 for this cocktail served in a kids glass - letting you this know since the prices aren't on the menu. Wine was $12. We ordered the Cheesy Chorizo Tater Tots which were delightful. Decadently rich with good complimenting sauces. After appetizers the service part of the meal broke down. After seeing a couple of huge salads go by we asked our server if we could split a Cobb salad. Simple request, but they brought it to the table as one big salad and placed the plate between us. Did not offer a second plate, did not divide the salad or offer to do so. Instead brought us a second plate. No extra fork so we ended up using both of our tater-tot-encrusted forks to divide the salad between our plates ourselves. You shouldn't have to do that at a restaurant with these prices. We're about a third of the way through our salad and our entrees arrive. This was no more than five minutes after our salad arrived...and they weren't busy! It's not like we were dawdling and it's not like they had a line. Of course if we hadn't spent two or three minutes waiting for a second plate and dividing up our own salad MAYBE it would have timed out correctly. We sent the plates back since we were not even close to being ready. The kitchen staff had brought the entrees so when our server came by I told him we'd sent them back since we weren't done yet. The entrees showed up again - I'd finished my salad but my companion had not. We gave up, juggled plates and accepted the entrees. Of course they were cold. What else would you expect? But even slightly cold the food was in fact good. My companion had a cheddar burger and it was tasty, rich and better than expected. I had the fish and chips - three good sized pieces of cod which were firm and crisp with seasoned fries. We skipped dessert. Another aspect which deserves mentioning is upkeep of the facility. Hanging in the main dining room are large light cylinders as a primary accent. They are yellowing with age and one has a very prominent burn spot on the dining room side. It looks like a lamp shade you'd find at a seedy hotel...really tackies up the dining room. A visit to the mens room reveals a partition between the urinals that has been broken off the wall and no attempt to patch the holes. On my visit there were two paper towel dispensers - a good thing since the wave-hand-for-towel one didn't work. Again if I was at a Wrigleyville bar I'd expect these things - but downtown in the financial district? I've added photos to show you what I mean. The total meal cost was around $93 and I left a $20 tip. Over $100 for a date-night meal in downtown Chicago is not unreasonable, but you can have a far better experience at other nice places in the loop. One North is walking distance to the theater district - which is a plus given that options are limited on the weekends. Maybe they do better during the work week with the lunch and happy-hour crowd, but it's not some place I would say I'm happy or proud to have visited. Probably won't take a chance on this establishment again. read more

Classic Loop restaurant! Great for a lunch outing. I came here with my boss and team for a lunchtime meeting (we decided to get out the office for a bit, which was nice!) We went around 11:30 am and it wasn't too crowded! My boss called ahead to have seats reserved, but we could have easily walked in and been seated on a whim. We sat outside on their patio and it was really nice because we weren't directly in the sunlight. Their patio has pretty nice coverage, especially for summer outings! Our server was very polite and timely with bringing water, taking our orders, etc. The food was delicious as well! I had the Sriracha BLT which was SOOOO interesting for a lunchtime dish. I've never had anything like it. There was a brown sugar glaze on the bacon that gave it a bit of a sticky feel (make sure you have plenty of napkins!) and sweet potato fries. if you order one of the salads, they are a GREAT portion size. Big enough for lunch/dinner and possibly a second meal - or if you're hungry just eat it all! If I come back again, I'll definitely get one of the salads. My wife (who has celiac disease) and I arrived in Chicago this afternoon. I had to rush off to some work stuff, and she went in search of some food, ending up at One North Kitchen. She asked for a gluten-free menu when she arrived, and since it was kind of slow in the middle of the afternoon, the chef ended up coming out to her table to sit down and talk through what's safe and what's not on the menu. This particular chef had allergies of her own, and she knew what she was talking about The server, Jenna, was apparently outstanding too... So much so that my wife brought me and two co-workers back here for dinner this evening! It was kind of funny to see her greeted like a regular by the host and server alike, but hey, that's what you get when you come back to the same place twice in a day! Now that I've been here myself, I can vouch for the quality of the food. I had the bacon risotto, which I devoured in a hurry - it was so good! I also had some of my wife's special of the week harvest bowl with steak - also super yummy. My co-workers were really happy with their food, too, especially the Buffalo wing mac and cheese. I also thought their custom Old Fashioned with ginger and pomegranate was very tasty - not super strong, but that was fine by me. And my wife was totally comfortable about not getting glutened. Look, if someone loves a place so much that they come back in the same day, bringing three more people, that speaks pretty highly of it! This restaurant is great! Not only is the food and drink excellent here, but the service is everything! We have come here many times and sat on the patio with our dog. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. We have never had a bad experience. Perfect for after work happy hours and a nice dinner right in the heart of downtown. The chef is great! She has come out to talk to us many times and she is funny, interesting and a great chef. The guy running front of house is terrific! We get personal attention and they love our dog! I'd give this place 3.5 stars, but since my mood is definitely in high spirits today, I'll round up. I met my dining companion at the bar and we were seated immediately. It was busy, but thankfully, the noise level wasn't deafening. I had had a really good salad on my first visit, so I had that in mind for my return trip. Alas, the menu changed and the salad was no longer on the menu. Unflappable gal that I am, I opted for my second choice which was a Niçoise salad. I only ordered a half-size portion, which was plenty, especially, since given my propensity for ordering dessert, I needed to save room. The salad was really good. Seared tuna that was lightly blackened, fresh greens, tomatoes, haricots verts, olives, hard-boiled egg - the usual suspects one would expect to find in a Niçoise. What cinched it for me was the addition of fried capers and a delicious whole-grain mustard vinaigrette that had a real bite to it. My dc ordered the same thing, as well as a cup of the soup du jour, a parsnip and something-or-other puree, which was apparently very good. Add a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (I don't normally drink white wine, but I tasted this and it went perfectly with the salad) and a ricotta and pine nut tart with a raspberry-cassis coulis for dessert, and you have all the makings of a pretty terrific lunch. The server was really nice. She was a little too peppy for my taste (the result of too much coffee perhaps), but I'd rather have someone like that than someone completely uninterested or apathetic. Note to single girls: this place was teeming with tables of businessmen eating with other businessmen. There were very few tables of just women or even tables of both sexes.
