Post work one winter afternoon, I stepped into this cute and quaint sushi bar in Porter Square, Cambridge and ordered some of my usuals including, a salmon sushi roll, miso soup and this pristine presentation of an avocado salad. . Like most of the Japanese food I've had the pleasure to eat in my lifetime, the taste was cool and refreshing. I love contrasting warm and cold foods while I eat so I would eat a piece of sushi and then usher it down with a spoonful of miso. The small portions always fill me up without making me feel heavy. I think it's a silent art of Japanese cuisine; being satisfied without over indulging. . It was quiet and mostly empty when I came to dine so service was efficient. Why this restaurant? Because it's the only Japanese restaurant near Harvard Yard (not really that close) that's open before noon... so the decent food was a pleasant surprise. The Raw Fish Mix (Soy Pepper) : Madai真鯛 (sea bream), Buri鰤 (yellow tail fish), and avocado on the inside, and salmonサーモン, maguro鮪 (tuna), tobikoとびっこ (flying fish roe), eel sauce, and spicy mayonnaise on the outside. If the thickness isn't enough, the variety makes up for it; eating four kinds of fish in one bite was quite satisfying. You can clearly feel the different sashimi刺身 pieces rubbing together in your mouth, and the rich, oily flavors bursting forth. The spicy mayonnaise wasn't actually spicy; more importantly, it was more sour than regular mayonnaise, not cloyingly sweet, and it actually cut through the greasiness when paired with the avocado. The tobiko and eel sauce were less noticeable. It's worth mentioning that the restaurant even provided hand-ground wasabi山葵 with their sushi takeout! So thoughtful! read more

When I think about my upcoming departure from Cambridge, one of the places I will miss most is One Ramen & Sushi. This unassuming sushi restaurant has proven to be one of the highlights of my time here. First and foremost: the food is exceptional, subtle, sumptuous (even my Japanese friends highly approve). But what is more extraordinary is the staff itself---the radiant center of which is the manager Ying. Her conscientious, kind demeanor and how deeply she cares about each customer and their experience (e.g. I had surgery and she remembered and welcomed we back with great tenderness and care) transform this restaurant into a destination. The food here was great but the service was poor. We had a reservation that they forgot about which induced a wait. After being seated, it was clear they were understaffed as it took long to order, get our food, etc. I know Covid is impacting staffing in general, but expect that if you dine in. This is the most underrated restaurant I have been to in the Boston area so far! Super cheap, high quality fish and sushi and freaking delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here and was surprised by how cheap the rolls were, especially when you come for lunch. My friend and I shared three rolls on the lunch menu and a special roll (and yes, they still offer lunch menu prices on the weekends - we came on a Sunday!). It was insanely fresh and filling. We ordered: + Spicy Tuna Update special roll +the lunch Choose Roll Combo ($13 for three rolls!!! And comes with miso soup and salad): 1. Alaskan hand roll 2. eel avocado hand roll 3. shrimp tempura hand roll I loved how they didn't inundate the rolls with rice and there's just a thin layer of rice around the fish. The tuna and salmon rolls that we had were extremely fresh and well seasoned - the perfect bite size. And I absolutely thought the size per price of roll was a steal (I'm so used to sushi restaurants only giving six prices so this was a great extra treat!) I also appreciated how all the rolls that had avocado in it gave so much avocado (they really don't skimp out on it). Highly recommend making a reservation beforehand since the space inside is small. Can seat four other parties inside and maybe 6-7 outside. If you're coming on a hot summer day like we did, it was still scorching hot inside, even though the AC was on - not the best in terms of ambiance but an awesome lunch and takeout spot. Also there was only one server when we dined in so it took forever for us to order, get water, get our check, etc. But I saw that they're looking for more servers so hopefully things will pick up!! I was so excited to try a ramen place I hadn't yet been to in Boston! We were enticed by the fact that they had ramen AND sushi, but I am realizing that a business might not have a good grip on either if they offer both. Actually, the sushi was pretty good for the price. I don't think I would elect to go here for sushi alone, but it did fill a craving. The miso soup that came with the sushi dinner was cold. I decided to get the house special spicy sesame ramen over the tonkotsu because I'd never had sesame broth before! I'm not sure what I should have expected, but it tasted like pizza to me. Aside from that, however, I thought the ramen was decent. The ground beef and the could have been cooked more. The servers here are very kind, but mildly inefficient with service. Getting to the bathroom requires you to walk through the kitchen, which seems odd to me. read more

I've been here once before when they had a student promotion going on where you get a free bowl of tonkotsu ramen if you can show them an "A" on your most transcript from the previous semester (talk about motivation!!). Whoa, surprisingly good ramen in a totally unexpected location. I really wasn't expecting much when I decided to pick an order of Tonkotsu ramen up on my way home. But I quickly realized I had found a gem. For $12, you get rich and creamy pork broth, pretty tender chashu pork, half of a perfectly cooked egg, and a myriad of tasty toppings from bamboo to corn to seaweed. They also stamp a cute little sticker onto the takeout container, recommending how to reheat the broth for maximum enjoyment. I've since tried the Spicy Sesame ramen and dined in for sushi as well. The tonkotsu ramen is decent. The broth feels like it is missing something that makes it great, although I'm not sure what it is. The noodles are slightly curly and thin. The rolls we had were great, I don't remember what it was, but It had a good mix of textures (crunchy, and smooth), so maybe it was the tempura shrimp. The edamame had too much salt. I wish they would just leave it boiled and let the guests salt it. I hope they start using glassware instead of the plastic cups. read more

Hidden gem!! It's a small and cozy spot perfect for the homey feel you get from their ramen. The broth was very flavorful and didn't taste too salty like most ramen. Toppings had a good variety of different things and I loved the cook on the egg. Meat was tender and juicy and the ramen itself had a great texture that wasn't too soggy. Sushi here was good too. We enjoyed this vibrant and quirky little offering a Massachusetts Avenue. We went with a couple of kids, they were very comfortable in the surroundings and stuff coped very well given that there were not many of them working but it was also really busy. Service was top notch, friendly with a smile. Sashimi was very good not great, I had a recent luxury of being in Hawaii and it's just so hard to be fair on other places not Hawaii. The ramen broth was rich and layered, it was as far as I can remember the first time that the egg was runny. That was a nice balance of beef to noodles and vegetables, I do like a bit of oily richness and spice in my Ramen, I didn't observe any of that, and I don't recall if that was actually an another offering on the menu. I wouldn't return to that particular soup on my next visit, but I would definitely like to eat there sometime in the future. Final mention for the Vegan Ramen, also very good. read more

My daughter loves Asian cuisine, and wanted to go to "this little ramen place" her and her boyfriend like to visit. When she says little, she means little. It's a tiny place you could walk past it if you're not paying attention. We walk in and are immediately greeted and offered a table.
