I wasn't expecting bright blonde for my first time but it's bright! she kept the length but blended my hair with fake. Most salons I go to they rip off my head like I'm there tester mannequin when they were in school but i have nothing but compliments on Paige she was very gentle with the blow dry process the shampoo bowl and not giving me the awkward makeup line! Independent building off of grand river near Novi road. They have a lot of parking and easily accessible from the highway and main roads. I love the interior of this place, it's beautiful and bright. I've been coming here since they open this location, I've tried a variety of services and several stylists. I finally landed on one that I really liked, but over time I focus on me kind of declined. She recently left, and I've debated about following her or not. I did decide to try someone new here, and they did spend a lot of time on me. However, The cut I received from her wasn't something that really worked for me, and the color I have really is a far more brassier than what I asked for. I love their location, but I'm debating if I should continue here and try someone else or try to find someone else who can style my hair the way I want it somewhere else all together. read more

I would give this zero stars if I could. I went in for a simple cut with longer curtain bangs and lots of layers. I also showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted. What I got was NOTHING like the picture. She didn't add any layers and my "longer curtain bangs"....well one side is shorts than the other and it was cut blunt and was not blended in with the rest of my hair. I have never had a worse hair cut. Going to a different place tomorrow to have them fix what should have been an easy haircut. I would compare this haircut to one that fantastic sams would give. I have already scheduled an appointment at a different salon to try and fix this mess. I will never go back and never let someone from This salon touch my hair. read more

17 months ago I went to this salon. The girl did not do my hair correctly. I was offered a fix but I was too scared to come back. I waited 17 months and I called today asking for a different person...someone REALLY good..senior designer. AGAIN I showed pictures and told THE GIRL what I wanted. Besides my hair not looking at all like I wanted...not even remotely blonde highlites (IT HAD yellow AND orange look which I told her I hated and was already in my hair and thats what I wanted fixed) ...it looks pretty much the same color as when I went in. AGAIN. Same thing last time. I paid A LOT money for that. I also told her where I wanted my bangs cut to and they end up way to short. THEY DID NOT OFFER SOLUTION OR REFUND. They didn't care. DO NOT GO HERE THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO WHAT YOU WANT. NEVER ONCE DID SHE SAY SHE COULDN'T DO IT. I came in for a color correction to remove my brassy orange pigment and that is what I think was achieved ? But not really. Apart from paying $250 for something I wasn't happy with, I'd bought my own $160 Olaplex hair system because "they don't use that anymore" totaling to $410. The brassy tones were still there! My stylist seemed confident and was very nice initially but it seemed like she just wanted it all to be over midway through. My hair looked fine for the first week until I washed it... After my first wash, the toner DISAPPEARED. BOOM! Back to orange hair! I wanted to cry my face offf, I couldn't believe I'd paid so much for this disaster. I called the salon to talk to her TWICE! No response! Absolutely disgusted. I went to Sally's beauty supply and bought the 12AA Clairol soyplex color (brightest double ASH Blonde) for $25 and did it myself at home and it is now Gorgeous! That's all I wanted from the get go. I'm doing my hair at home from now on honestly, even though that's never advisable but, I think if you have COMMON SENSE, you can do it at home. **I did forget to mention that I came the day BEFORE to have her see my hair FIRST and give me a price we can agree on, she did! But, when she was done, she told me that she should've charged me more? Umm That's on you! I made a pre-appointment drove 1 hour away, just for you to make sure, so don't talk to me like I'm trying to rip you off or I owe you something.** Oh and now my total is $435. I swear I wouldn't be mad at paying $500 if my hair was to look like what I actually wanted but for me to pay that much and still be sad and hate my hair? No thank you. Yesterday was my first time at One Salon. It's now my new Salon!! I love it there!! They were very very very accommodating to my last minute needs. 1) I haven't had a hair cut in close to 6 months so it was a project 2) I need a hair dye and highlights too 3) Also needed a styling and eyebrows They were able to schedule me in for everything in time for my friend's wedding that day Jackie did my hair and she was absolutely AWESOME! I ended up cutting off close to 11" off hair, so I was a little nervous. She cut it a lite longer than I asked to just make sure and then when I wanted it shorter when she was finished, she was happy to do so. Most people would look at it like an inconvenience. She even curled it for me since I was going to a wedding for no extra charge. She was the biggest sweetheart! The lady that did my eyebrows too was awesome! I'm super picky about that too. The overall experience was awesome. The stylists were all very diverse. The place was bumping. I feel that very comfortable and confident since every songle person there (stylists and guests) left with their hair looking FABULOUS!! :) The only suggestion I have for the salon is to offer beverages. At least water. I am from Florida and most salons there offer wine or mimosas. Most salons do not do that here. Like other reviews, I too loved my first visit to One Salon. First, I totally love the online reservation system. It is super easy to use and so handy. Once I arrived for my appointment everyone from the front desk to the stylists were very welcoming, offering me a beverage right away. One Salon is very down to earth, not pretentious like other local salons. And you can tell from the smiles on both customers and stylists, everyone likes being here. A busy parking lot also makes me think this place must be doing something right. I was set up with Rebecca, who is incredibly helpful for someone like me who doesn't own a hairdryer and hates hair products. Rebecca was very understanding and cut my hair so that it would have natural body. I love it! While I only received a hair cut ($45), Rebecca also specializes in coloring FYI. All in all, this is definitely a five-star salon and I look forward to returning. read more

I've been to this salon twice before and enjoy the atmosphere, and have had friendly service. I had gotten blonde highlights at this location and was happy with this service. My last visit I decided to go darker, the first visit an all over dye was done along with a toner,costing me $225 (more than I recall paying for tedious blonde highlights)- I was told to come back only 3 weeks later for another application of toner which I was charged another $70 for. Between tips and service charges I've paid well over $350 to have my brown hair with highlights dyed brown. Not to mention the hairstylist stated that my stubborn gray hairs were not even covered. Sara Nicole is the single worst stylist on this motherfreaking planet, not to mention her personality. I was never going to write a review about my experience, but after hearing another horror story from a dear friend recently I decided I should speak up so management is aware and other potential clients can be warned. I got my hair done by her a while ago and she was constantly asking other staff members what to do next about my hair... i had to come back and get my hair done a second time by her and another more experienced stylist. She laughed and made jokes about "frying my hair off" to other clients who were getting their hair done, while I was sitting there so embarrassed and so worried about my hair. The amount of money she charges is 1000% more than her services are worth... i would pay $10 max for the services I got, and even then that is too generous. And she had the audacity to pressure me for a tip?? How pathetic. If I were the salon owner I'd kick her out of her booth ASAP before she ruins this salon's reputation. I've been to this salon three separate times. The first time went fine. The service was terrible during my second and third visits. My appointment was delayed by two hours for my second visit, and recently I had an appointment scheduled for a haircut and I received a text confirmation from the salon the day before stating the date/time of the appointment. They had moved locations last week, which I didn't know about, and Google Maps had their old location. I had to drive from their old location to their new one but when I arrived they told me that they don't have my appointment in the system. I told them I have the text confirmation from them about the appointment and they said that the stylist had quit and they already removed the stylist from the system. They asked me to reschedule the appointment because they were already booked for the full day. I definitely do not recommend this salon and will never be going back. read more

I am regular customer of this Salon and I have always had best service. But this week I got 15mins late because when I took appointment they did not mention about their location change and I went to old location, and somehow I saw website and got to new location but the map was directing to wrong store and I got late and it was not intentional. I went and sat but the lady assigned to me said she can't take me in because I was late even after I explained it wasn't my fault, I literally had to cancel all my rest of the plans just because of a haircut and not being little considerate about the situation. Have come to salon couple of time n waited for 10mins even though I was on time for appointment, there's always room for consideration and be little more helpful for regular clients. I was referred to this place by a Facebook group. Thought I'd try it out. I have light brown hair and wanted to go darker. So I bought some dye from Sally's, dyed it, and my hair ended up being brassy on top and very dark on the ends. I figured it would be a quick fix at a salon since my hair takes pretty good to dye. One color would have fixed it. Upon my arrival to One, I was checked it and waited for about 10 minutes, even though I had arrived a little before my appointment no big deal. The place was huge and freezing. The staff was friendly but everyone smelled of cigs. Kind of gross. But whatever. My stylist was nice but a little abrasive and a little strange, as she kept flipping her hair crazily and when talking she would only look at herself in the mirror. Ok, still forgivable. Slapped some dye and on and I sat and waited in the freezing building. After she dried my hair I checked out only to get a bill for 130 bucks. What! I seriously could have gone to so many other places and spent less then 100. Oh and you have to give cash for tips. There's an ATM machine for your convenience. This place is great! Really high end and classy for sure. I don't come here often, because I have a stylist who knows my usual cuts. I have come here a few times though whenever she can't take me in. But this place is basically just as good. The first time I came here, I was looking to color my hair. I've never done anything to it before and this was a new place for me, so I was terrified as hell. Amanda was my stylist and I basically showed her a bunch of photos and let her do whatever she wanted with my hair. I was terrified, but my goodness, the result was amazing! Amanda gave me balayage highlights that weren't too bright, flowed perfectly with my hair, and look amazing. She also gave me advice on how to take care of it, how I should update it, and everything. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair since then, especially when I curl it because you can see how cool it looks. Wow. I was definitely impressed. I think the price was expensive, but I was glad to pay it because I thought it was so worth it. I'm still going to my normal everyday place because I do have a strong relationship with my stylist and it's also a lot cheaper, but I do love One Salon. Now I come here when I'm trying something new, and then I go to my normal girl when I'm sticking with what I'm comfortable with. 10/10 would recommend this read more

LIZ IS THE BEST!! She's cool as hell and does an amazing job with my hair. Before her, I had been to Greg at Alex Emilio (who did a decent job but said almost NOTHING to me for the 2-ish hours I was there and made my hair boring instead of fun which is not what I wanted AT ALL), several different colorists at Aveda in Ann Arbor, a girl at Nogginz, a girl at HB salon in somerset, and a couple people at Changez in Royal Oak back when I was in high school. Out of all these people, Liz is the only person I've ever stuck with for color. Rebecca at Aveda in Ann Arbor does great haircuts, but she doesn't double as a colorist. I've liked my hair color in the past, but then again it's pretty hard for someone to mess up all-over color. Sometimes I'd skip the salon and have a friend do it with a box dye from CVS. Whenever I got something complex done, it was always overpriced and not quite what I wanted. One time I was COMICALLY blonde, which was costly and looked wrong with my complexion. I was initially very shocked, but the girl who did my hair kept insisting that it looked great (which it didn't, I have pictures). My guy friend said it looked like a blonde wig. So basically I was never WOWed by my pricier color excursions. Liz, on the other hand, actually listens to what I want. When I ask her opinion of what I want to do, she gives me her expert opinion. The first time I came in and wanted to have my hair done similar to my friend Laura (who also goes to Liz), Liz suggested I do similar shades but do it a tad lighter because Laura's hair is naturally darker than mine. THANK YOU. That's exactly why I pay someone to do my hair! The last time I went to her I decided to re-try a previous request to have my hair done like MK olsen when she had dark blonde highlighted/lowlighted hair. The first time I asked a colorist for that color it looked decent but nothing like MK's. Liz OWNED it. We didn't go quite as light, but the shades were exactly what I wanted--bright gold/copper/red lowlights and warm honey highlights. I'm due to have my hair redone soon and I'm just going to do the same thing because I love it so much (which never happens to me!). So anyhoo, Liz has mad skills and she's also a great person to talk to so I actually enjoy my time at the salon. Go see her!!! You won't regret it! read more

Came here for haircuts with my girlfriend. For my haircut: I could see hair fall from the clippers before she started -- clearly not cleaned. She threw all her tools immediately back in her drawer where there was a rotting banana instead of sanitizing them... It was also overpriced for a men's cut. $35 vs under $20 really anywhere else. My girl had someone else cutting her hair and had a normal enjoyable experience. Tips can only be given in cash or check, but they have, and encourage you, to use their ATM. We just moved to MI, and I had been going to another salon for the past 4 months (Salon Legato, and I am writing that review next), and finally had enough. My hair looked orange, didn't go with my skin, and just didn't lay right like it had from my previous salon in TN. Because of the other Yelp reviews, I called One Salon and somehow lucked out and got in the same day. I briefly went through what I needed over the phone with Jen, and begged her to put me with a stylist that could help my hair. Lisa saved my naturally curly hair!! During my consultation, she listened to what had happened before, asked me what I didn't like, made a color suggestion based on my natural color, and put me at ease! Lisa assured me that she would take care of my hair and she did! It was so bad she took before and after shots... seriously, it looked BAD. Lisa suggested a rich red brown that made my green eyes pop out and looked gorgeous against my skin. This is damn near my natural hair color! Girl knows her color!! After the color, Lisa straightened my hair to check out my previous cut....AWFUL! I knew it didn't look right, but DAMN! I didn't even realize how awful it was until she flattened it and actually showed me the flaws/problems. I had weird layers, the back of my hair wasn't even and was all different lengths, and the previous stylist cut a hole in my hair I will have to grow out to fill. Lisa gave me one hell of a haircut to help my hair but keep my length. It's going to take a few cuts and some time for me to grow out my hair to fix the previous problems, but this is a good start! Needless to say, I am booked with Lisa until Christmas 2015! No playing around again, every 7 weeks..I am there! And the best compliment of all, my husband came home and said "you have your hair color back. It really looked like crap before!" Thanks for finally telling me, honey!!! Seriously, I can't wait to get on a regular maintenance plan with Lisa. My hair feels so soft, and it is back to looking shiny and healthy! That's all anyone wants!!! read more

I came back to One Salon because I had SUCH a good first experience, however the second time around was not. Wasn't as personable, didn't feel as comfortable, and didn't get exactly what I was looking to do with my hair this time around. I understand that it's harder to go from darker hair to light, I just wish my stylist would have mentioned that she didn't want to fry my hair by getting it to the ashy blonde I wanted and in turn I got brassy ends instead... I would have stayed in the chair longer if it meant getting the color that I wanted, but I felt like she was counting down the minutes till I was out of her chair. The second half of the appointment, where the dye was washed out and revealed the brassiness and while getting my hair trimmed, my stylist got very quiet and didn't seem as confident as when she started with the appointment. I've read reviews on Yelp where their stylist fixed their color for a complimentary fee because it didn't turn out how they wanted the first time, but I never heard of that as an option from my stylist when I voiced that it turned out more brassy than I would have liked. What a waste of $130 (plus tip)... Not to mention, the staff seemed very offended that I didn't buy their silver shampoo when I got it on Amazon for nearly ten dollars cheaper than it was at the salon! My stylist was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed talking with her. She answered a lot of questions that I had pertaining to damaged hair, losing hair, etc. I had a consultation with another salon that is closer to home for me, so unfortunately I'll be switching salons once again! read more

I realized a little too late that I would never be able to experiment with my look once I formally enter the healthcare industry, so I decided...why not do something a little different now while I still have some time? BEST decision ever. I decided first that I wanted to prematurely age myself and get silver hair, which again was the BEST DECISION EVER. Enter Mary Lowery, the mf-ing color wizard, who took me from a dark blonde (that I had gotten bleached from black back at home in CA) to the most gorgeous dark blue metallic grey. It was absolutely amazing. However, as someone who had never really had and cared for colored hair, I was disappointed to see that the color faded in 2-3 weeks and started showing some blonde. I called Mary and told her about the fade, and she had me come in again for toning and such at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. Goddess. And as per the last time, it looked fabulous, faded to a beautiful silver grey, and grew out beautifully with my naturally black hair. I stopped by again after a few months to get the same color touched up, this time a little lighter, and it looked as fantastic as the last time. Mary always readily gives me lots of tips and suggestions on how to manage my color and there is never any pressure to purchase products (although they do have an excellent selection of products that I have ended up buying anyway, including the holy grail moroccanoil). There seems to be a real focus on artistry at One Salon and from what I can see, it's an environment that really promotes growth in each artist, which is wonderful. Fast forward to April...in a few short months I'll have to go back to black, so what do I do? Purple. Mary does it again, combining three different shades to get the most beautiful, luscious pinky-lilac known to man. I anticipate that some tears will be shed when I finally have to color over it, but I've already booked my appointment with Mary because even if I have to pull an Amy Winehouse (sorry, had to), I know it's going to look amazing when Mary works her magic! Edit: Also wanted to add that yes, I will absolutely drive 45minutes both ways to come here and have my hair be on point. I enjoyed getting my hair cut and styled here twice in the past year. The first time I was so extremely happy. The cut was exactly what I wanted and I have a lot of hair, so I expected the extra time and price. I was excited to find a stylist that met my needs exactly. I scheduled my 2nd appointment before my birthday. The second time was not as enjoyable, my stylist seemed a little rushed, and my cut was off. I asked for the same a line bob that I had 3 months prior. I realized soon after styling myself over the next few days I actually received an asymmetrical bob instead (one side being longer than the other). Over all, it is a nice salon with experienced staff, but I probably won't be back after this last time. Not to mention it is a little pricey for a hair cut. read more

After seeing a lot of good reviews on here, I decided to give the salon a try. I'm usually interested in anything that lets me make a reservation online, and it was very easy to do. My appointment was on a Monday night and the salon was very empty, which the stylist said was typical for a Monday. When I walked up to the front desk, the associate at the counter was playing with her phone and after ten or so seconds of waiting I had to speak up. Of course she apologized and told me my stylist would be with me shortly. No one offered to take my jacket or offered me a beverage. For a salon with prices like these, I was expecting both of those things. My stylist told me to "toss my stuff on a chair, its not that busy in here so it should be fine". And really I didn't mind, but it did seem unprofessional to me. I'm sure the salon has a policy for these things when they are busy, and I would have appreciated the same attention to detail when they are not. My stylist was Ali, and she was really cheerful and fun to talk to. I came prepared with pictures of the cut I wanted, and Ali was great with talking me through my options, and helped me to decide on a cut. My only complaint about the cut was that part way through she casually asked if I wanted any "face framing". I responded "sure", thinking it would be a minor change from the cut we decided on. My hair ended up really short around my face and the layering faded backward, if that makes sense. Its very different from the pictures that I was trying to copy. I realize I said yes when she asked if I wanted her to do it, but it would have been nice if there was more discussion before such a drastic change was made. Her casual tone led me to believe the face frame would be subtle. I don't hate it, but it now has a much more layered look than I was going for. Overall I liked my stylist and can be okay with the cut, but the salon was cold/impersonal and for the price, someone ought to hang up my jacket and offer me a glass of wine ;) read more

After trial and error of many salons over time and knowing my hair's personality, this salon is top notch. It is on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for. I've seen Kara and she did a phenomenal job listening to what I wanted and keeping my end goal in mind. She was able to get rid of my nasty brassy blonde tresses and transition my dark blonde natural color down to keep my maintainience low, and give me a natural sun-kissed neutral blonde balayage look. I'm seeing Andrea next just because she specializes in this look, and I wanted to have her give me a nice cut. I was referred to Brooke from a friend after having a terrible experience with hair extensions from another salon. I went to Brooke in hopes of her being able to fix my extensions by cutting them or taking them out. Unfortunately, One Salon doesn't have the equipment to take out bonded extensions (like most salons) and Brooke was very honest about there during my consultation. She showed me the kind of hair she uses for extensions and gave me a ton of information but never pressured me into buying ANYTHING! I ended up getting my extensions taken out by a different salon and the very next day saw Brooke so I could get a cut. She is so down to Earth, easy going, and sweet. I didn't feel like I was being told what I wanted to hear or felt like I was getting ripped off. I am going back to Brooke to get some highlights put in and I am really looking forward to it. The people are the front desk could be a little more welcoming since this place is kind of intimidating to a new client or someone that isn't used to going to a big salon. Everything one would need in a salon: *Easy to reserve online and regulars can even select their fav stylist *Huge and beautiful space with separate areas dedicated to different services *Friendly customer service with tea and coffee while waiting *Super quick and knowledgeable stylist who knew what I wanted without much description on my part. For example, my hair is super thick and grows fast yet I wanted length and movement to it, so she came up with a plan of how to tackle this instantly.
