A Hidden Gem for Blondes - Gina is Amazing! I recently moved from Las Vegas and had a tough time finding a quality hairdresser, especially as a blonde. I went to Agape yesterday. I have been there a few times in the past with other stylists. Lisa was recommended so I thought I would try her. She never introduced herself. She never smiled once. She never spoke to me. She asked me two questions. $72 for a haircut which took 20 minutes and I walked out of there with wet hair. Without even asking she used a razor on my entire head. My hair is totally over-texturized. I told her I was trying to grow it longer. I have a very short cut now. When I said something she said that she didn't take anything off the length and yet some of the hair on the floor was about two inches long. I could've gone to Great Clips or some other horrible place and had a better cut. Never ever again! I was supposed to go to a reunion this weekend and now I'm not going because of my hair. read more

Have used this place a few times and have been disappointed with the customer service. The scheduling/ front desk is not easy to deal with. Mia or Mya answers the phones and is tough to work with. I like my stylist but getting time with her seems like a painful process. For salons at this price point, the customer service at some of the other places is stellar. I've been to Agape a few times for color and cut services. I had gotten my very first balayage done last year, by Sarah (new talent), which turned out phenomenal. She also does a great job with cuts. Unfortunately the last time, the color didn't turn out as I had wanted (I wanted a more "chunky balayage" but it ended up looking like a color melt as the highlights were too blended for my liking). I was expecting the color to fade out over the next few days to what I had envisioned, but sadly it didn't. They have a very strict policy wherein any kind of corrections (color/cut) must be done within a week from the service. I had called on the 7th day (was out of town before that) to see if I could get my color corrected but the salon staff told me it wouldn't be possible as it was too late. The manager of this salon, Mia, was very accommodating and personally called me and allowed me to schedule an appointment as I was not satisfied with my color (balayage retouch). I was able to come in on short notice, and get the service done by another stylist, Heather. She was fantastic, had a great attitude and was very pleasant and patient. She didn't make me feel bad at all about wanting a redo (in the past, I have had stylists that sulk and make you feel as if it's your fault the color didn't turn out right and that they're doing you a huge favor by trying again). I was there till close and really appreciated Heather's cheery demeanor throughout. She did a great job and the result was exactly what I wanted. Thank you for providing exceptional customer service! I absolutely love my hair and am so happy I decided to come to Agape! I was unhappy with a very recent (and very expensive) blonde balayage done at Tricho Salon, so I came to Heather to have her fix it. This was my first time seeing Heather, so naturally I was a little nervous given my previous experience. I am always super picky with my hair color and highlight placement and feel like I hardly ever leave a salon satisfied with how my hair turns out, but Heather turned my dull head of hair to a gorgeous blonde balayage with perfect tones of blonde and the most natural highlight placement - I couldn't be happier! Not to mention she is so sweet and kind and really took her time to make sure she understood what I wanted and made sure I was happy with the end result. My experience at the salon was awful. I've been coming here for a few years and never had any issues, but after this last time I'll make sure that I never come back again. I asked for silver blonde platinum hair and I walked out of the salon with darker blonde hair than I had when I came in. When I asked for a redo and there was no solutions, I wasn't even offered a refund. The whole experience was awful and had my hair looking ridiculous. I spent $150 on services and I literally got nothing from them. I had to go to another salon to fix salon agapes mistake. I do understand that color doesn't take, but it would've been really nice to have been told that there was a possibility that my hair wouldn't of been like the picture I showed the stylist when I was getting my hair done. I return to the salon and asked to get low lights put in so that he could fix the darkness in my blonde hair, but they proceeded to tell me that it would cost me another $79 to do this even though this was the ONLY solution to rectify the situation. read more

I can't even rate this Salon...it's a total rip-off. I called ahead to get an appointment to color my grey hair to a brighter color of grey . I made a point to question the reservation tech about the professionalism of getting an expert that knew grey hair. I was told she was the best there but I would have to wait two weeks to get an opening. When I arrived I had to wait 20 minutes only to be told that the coloring service would not be available because of the extreme process. I took the time to drive almost 80 miles because I was told that I would get a color expert that could do the grey hair. Only to be told that the expert was way to busy to do a grey hair coloring. Then she talked me into doing a single coloring mixed with my existing grey with coloring. This took almost two hours, which I thought was a little over kills since is was not my requested color. Then she offered a haircut, I did not go in for a haircut, but she felt it should have one anyway. She thinned out my thick hair which I did not want or ask for. I got a bill for 280.00 Wow...that was not expected either. I felt this was a waste of my time and absolutely overrated when it came to service. Be careful if you do not know this place. Make sure you ask pricing no matter what. Make sure you get what you ask for and not what they offer you. I wish I would have gotten up and walked out when she said she didn't have the time to do my original request. For the price, I should have gotten exactly what I wanted instead I got a Walmart Specialist at a Summit price. And to think I was nice enough to tip her. I would never return to this salon. read more

My good friend went here. She doesn't do 'yelp'. I felt sorry b/c she came to our lunch wearing her wig (from a previous health issue), then later showed me her hair. She said she told the gal twice that she was ready for a cut as long as it was shoulder length (its not). She also said that she arrived with her hair in her natural loose waves so that the stylist could plan for that too. She wanted to note that she likes the overall style, just too short. Me, my sisters, and my mom have been going here for years! We love the Aveda products that leave our hair looking and smelling great for days after the visit. I've gotten my hair both cut and highlighted here and while the prices are moderate (cut with my fave stylist is $65, partial balayage is $120) I keep coming back for the amazing service. I went in for a shampoo and blow dry. I knew the price beforehand, it was $38.00, so I expected a good result. The stylist Lisa, spent twenty minutes with me from shampoo to finish. I felt like it wasn't completely dry and when I got to my car and felt it, the roots were still wet. Needless to say that by the time I drove the three miles to my home, it was stringy. If you're looking for a good blowout in Novi....don't go here, or at least get a different stylist. Very disappointed. read more

My hair looks fantastic! They always do such a great job here. I love the Aveda products. Their staff is very talented in hair color, cut and styling. They have free wine! Yay! So why only 3 stars? Because it takes FOR- FREAKIN' -EVER!! I went in for a root touch up, a few low lights, hair cut and blow out. FIVE HOURS LATER, I was done! So I thought, that must have been a fluke... but I went this week to get just partial highlights and a hair cut and blow out.... FOUR HOURS! I went after work, and I didn't walk out of there until it was DARK and after 8PM! How is that possible?? I can't even explain what took so long. I think it was just an extra 15 minutes along the way at each step and it steam-rolled. No idea. I can't believe it took so long. I can't say I will be going back anymore. I could understand 2-3 hours. But I don't have half the day to spend. read more

. Update: I tried their spa service because they had a 50% discount on their hour facials. From my outstanding hair service I was expecting the same quality for the spa treatment. All in all, I was not a fan. The music was miserable. It sounded like a dying tuba in a vent. If I wasn't focusing on bad music, I could hear the the clanging of plates from the busy restaurant next door(that inspired me to visit their restaurant actually). The other spa room was available so I wonder why they put me in the nosy room? Maybe because it was discounted? Anyway, I have no idea what products were used on my face because there was no communication from the tech. I gave the service a three star bc it was an okay facial (I love aveda products) but I just don't understand why you would use rough facial brush on my cheeks when I specifically said I had sensitive skin with eczema at our introduction. I flinched in pain twice and told her to stop. Part of my face was blotched red when I left and very tender when I went home. I will not be back for a facial. read more

Don't go to kaelin. She gave me a cut I could have got at great clips, she did my daughters hair for prom and we had to redo it because it was so underwhelming and she just told my other daughter who has scalp eczema that she has lice. Salon is very overpriced for the experience and you would think that Aveda would train people working at their salons to be exceptional. read more

Wow. The salon is pure Aveda and wonderful , but the stylist I have tried to work with was the worst. I came back to Aveda and was given senior stylist, Summer. I tried for six months to understand this person and her inability to be flexible. Summer is very time orientated. She either doesn't have enough time to do what you want or let's you know that too much time was scheduled and let's you know her time was wasted. This shouldn't be the clients fault. Don't go in with an idea of a different cut or color. She will only do what she wants to do . On my first meeting with her, I was told not to talk. That should have been my first inkling. Summer is also rough and does not have a gentle touch. Towels are tugged around your head and her brow wax has added aggravation by her slapping your brow to dim the pain. Awful. After six months; Summer's lack of flexibility, roughness and moods, I have decided to move on. read more

Shannon Alexander is amazing. I have followed her for 10 years. She is a true artist. She has never failed me. I explain to her what I want and she can always create it. My hair cut always get nice compliments so does my highlights. She is really good at picking the highlights' color for me. She is very professional and not like other hair stylists, she never tries to push me to buy hair products so she can benefit from it. I really like that. She is talented. She does not just do hair cut and coloring, she also does a good job on make up. I have seen some of photos of her make up job, it was Vogue magazine quality. I would recommend her to anyone.
