While visiting Bend Oregon we decided to try One street Down Cafe which is run by a local family in there old family house which they turn into a cafe to carry on the great home cooking the family enjoyed growing up. They make their own bakery and bread items, I ordered the bacon & eggs with skillet potatoes and home made bread, which I enjoyed everything, except the coffee was like it was sitting for a while which made it bitter. Arrived and it's as depicted, a little house. It seems to be run locally, which is cool. Maybe they cater to locals they know, I don't know. I know on a Sunday at 10am, there were lots of indoor and outdoor tables available. I know this because I saw them, and then they tried to put me, a solo diner, at a table in the corner of the main "hallway" between the dining areas where two seats face a wall. There would constantly be the entire restaurant at my back, every new diner walking behind me, everyone leaving would be behind me. Every wait person walking back and forth, completely while I stared at the wall. I'm really unsure of why anyone would ever want to sit in this seat. And that's where they wanted me. With LOTS of tables available. I didn't sit there. I was "upgraded" to the same setup, only this time I got to be with my back to a family of 10, reunioning, with lots of screaming kids. That's cool. They need to eat too. But I love that I get selected to be the intimate companion in this tiny room with lots of other tables available. Like the two 2-tops in the front room. Wait staff largely ignored me after someone dumped off water, got drinks for the big table, left, came back, took their order. And that took a while because all that time they had to look at the menu meant they had to ask about six items and then consult the 3 year old for their opinion. Which seemed to take a lot of interpretation. Then the wait staff left. She did touch my shoulder (since my back was to this table, I couldn't see. Which did not make me feel good, frankly) and said she'd be back. She did eventually after taking care of the table behind. I ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy on the side, eggs over hard, and a biscuit upgrade. The screaming child provided ambient noise. That was lovely, especially with the little room I was in reverberating the concert since the parents felt this was a valuable addition to the breakfast. So my food did come pretty fast, I'll say that. The eggs were underseasoned but okay. The biscuit was pretty good and the potatoes were definitely fried potatoes. I saw four slivers of onion in them but they were unseasoned fried potatoes. The chicken fries steak...well, if it didn't come from frozen, I'd be surprised. It was food. It wasn't horrible. The wait staff did refill my soda without asking, and gave me a to go cup, which was really nice. Overall, the experience wasn't great and the food wasn't good enough for me to come back. That said, I'm an out of town visitor and opted for this place on my one time to choose where to eat in Redmond. I wish it had been better. read more

Corinne gave us good service, promptly! When we arrived the place was full! Our 2 meals were very large, "1/2 sandwich w/cup of potato soup." The GF bread was herbal and delicious. The 1/2 sandwich was equivalent to a whole! My husband had "stacked French toast" - 4 slices bread+ham+cheese+blueberries. First time here and will struggle to talk myself into coming back. We arrived around 10:30am and were immediately sat (we chose inside). Started off well - with someone taking our orders about 10 minutes later (decaf latte, house coffee, daily Benedict and 1/2 order of biscuits/gravy with eggs). Our drinks came after another 10 minutes (or so). House coffee was good but my latte was just milk (not even a hint of coffee - so $7.00 for warmed up milk). Food was about 10 minutes later and was ok (little on the cold side but tasted ok). Our issue was that nobody ever checked back on us (I would have mentioned the terrible latte if they had). Husband had the house coffee and had no offers to refill his cup. We finished eating and then waited another 20 minutes before somebody finally "noticed" us and asked if we wanted boxes for our leftovers (we declined as we were not going straight home) then went and got us our check. (No apologies for being busy (they were not that busy) or us having to wait etc.) My husband left a 10% tip (imo very generous; I would not have tipped as we did not receive any service). It seemed like they had plenty of personnel but most of them looked like young high school kids, so maybe they just need to be trained more/better. Many more places we can go with better food and table service. read more

It has taken two years; but, I have managed to eat my way through the breakfast menu. There is nothing on the menu that I would not recommend. My favorite is the Chicken Fried Steak. In my opinion, the gravy makes this the best Chicken Fried Steak in Central Oregon. That same gravy, topping their wonderful biscuits, makes the Biscuits & Gravy special. My second choice is the Daily Bene posted on the chalkboard by the door. It seems to be different everyday. As a result, I do not even look at the menu. Also, it is hard to resist the fresh baked scones and muffins on the counter. The service is excellent. One Street Down is our favorite breakfast/brunch restaurant in Redmond. read more

One Street Down Cafe is the best brunch place we've ever visited in OR. My friends and I really enjoyed our dishes. I specifically really enjoyed their local jam and spread is on every single piece of my bread. I had gotten the BLTA subbing the bacon for turkey and it was DELICIOUS. Let's talk about it!! Happy Wednesday to you and yours, came to try out this place for breakfast and it had some highs and lows. Pooling into this place I thought we had come to a neighbors house, cute small cafe style. Walking into this "house" it actually opens up into several rooms and we sat in the back room close to the kitchen area. Right by a window we waited for our server and then she brought our coffee, let's start there!!! Coffee was out of bounds good!! I truly enjoyed the coffee, the food was a disappointment. We ordered the chicken fried steak with potatoes opted in for a biscuit and over medium eggs to share, as we sipped on our delicious coffee we waited and soon the food arrived. The gravy was piping hot and the steak was pounded flat but the gravy was full of spicy flavor and it blanketed the steak perfectly, the potatoes were an afterthought and tasted like they were from yesterday breakfast, not hot and lacked flavor and seasoning the eggs were cooked just how I had asked. The biscuit, oh my, the biscuit if that's what we got was flat, hard, and solid nothing like a biscuit should be. The great points to this place were the customer service and that dam coffee, the rest I could pass on. We also waited for a bit for refills on coffee even though this place is small. Our order was taken very quickly and we were eating within 20 minutes. Our whole table ordered Benedicts and they were memorable to say the least. Both of my eggs were cooked perfectly and had an amazing ooze. The English muffins were thick and soft, lots of fresh veggies, delicious & thick hollandaise sauce and they happily substituted avocado for meat. I would recommend ordering an extra side of hollandaise (no charge!) if you like the sauce as much as I do. The potatoes were flavorful, well seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just finished brunch and what a great experience we had. It's in an old house. And they serve breakfast all day. They also have a lunch menu. We had the tower which was a huge pancake with eggs and we got the sausage patties. The cake was fluffy and delicious. The sausage was juicy and plentiful and obviously made in house.
