    Mackay cottage potatoes

What a great place this is for brunch. The ambience is so cute and the service was excellent. The food was so big. We definitely should've shared something. The breakfast burrito was delicious and the potato scramble so good!

Loved the cozy cottage bookshelf ambiance perfect for Bend's moody weather. Came in at 7:30 am some of the first of the morning and had a moment of calm before the bustle picked up. The portions are massive, probably the largest breakfast burrito I have ever eaten. One entree per person will definitely fill you up, and we boxed a lot of our food up after. The carnitas Benedict had a fluffy flavorful moist jalapeño cheddar biscuit which perfectly soaked up the chipotle hollandaise. Paired with runny egg, avocado, generous heaps of carnitas (a bit on the dry side but once the hollandaise soaked through improved with every bite) and crispy potatoes- I was delighted with the breakfast meal. Great spot and super full and busy by the time we left.

After an intense evening at the Oregon Whiskey Festival, breakfast at McKay Cottage was exactly what the doctor ordered. I went for the fruit plate, which was loaded with fresh bananas, berries, pineapple, and more--basically a perfect potassium pick-me-up. It even came with two tasty dipping options. We sat outside to enjoy the crisp Bend air, and the service couldn't have been better--friendly, attentive, and super quick. McKay Cottage definitely lived up to its reputation for great food and even better vibes. Next time, when I'm not recovering from whiskey flights, I'm definitely trying the stuffed French toast or strawberry crepes. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a delicious and relaxing breakfast in Bend!

    Baja Chicken Hash Stack

A quaint little cafe that looks like a house but hides big flavor! We started with a pecan sticky bun which was warm, fluffy, and crunchy. Then for my entree I had the Baja Chicken Hash Stack, so delicious! The server was nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend for a tasty breakfast

I think it was a Huckleberry Lemonade, but honestly, I can't remember. It was tasty.

I've always wanted to try this place when visiting Bend. But it's always so busy. (it seems people really like their food) It was a busy Saturday but we were able to get a table for 2 rather quickly. The setting was so homey to me. I felt like we were sitting in someone's home. It was a very well oiled machine with how well all the workers were taking care of their customers. The sandwiche was delicious and so tasty, very fresh. It was as if they had a fresh garden out there back door. Make sure you stop off at the bakery before you leave. I got some for the road and they didn't disappoint. Can't wait to go back.

Lovely breakfast spot that seems to be super popular (especially on a Friday morning during the summer season). When you give your name at the parking lot entrance, they have a cute area to sit and grab a free cuppa coffee (or water). Of course they'll also take a drink order! Once seated, we gave our meal orders. The scones came out within 10 minutes, but our meals took another 30 minutes. Very delicious (eventually), but the timing was a bit awkward. Highlight was the wonderful potatoes and homemade ketchup (I bought a bottle to take home!)

We went there for breakfast the place was packed and we had to wait 30 mins for a table, but as you wait they have coffee and ice water you help your self while you wait to be called. I had the eggs Benedict with the roasted potatoes and the egg Benedict they use smoked ham in stead of Canadian bacon. The roasted potatoes were very good and also the eggs Benedict. The vegetables omelet was also very good and roasted potatoes, it also came with a scone and their own berry jam. The French toast with the fresh banana was very good and tasty. Service was fast and you can use credit card with a 3.5 percent charge or pay cash to eliminate the 3.5 extra charge. The restroom was clean and they are pet friendly and bring a water bowl for your peg and they have doggie bones in a jar.

The best biscuits and gravy we've had hands down. Hubby said he would drive 4 hours to have again. However, the cinnamon french toast left more to be desired. There was about a 45 minute wait which we checked on one more place nearby however similar wait time so we came back, which thankfully we our name in just in case. While waiting, they brought water with ice for our dog. They have a website that shows where you are in queue and how long your wait time has been to that point. We were seated in the very back which was perfect for my anxious pup so she did not worry about what or who is behind her. All the staff were amazing and 100% on their service. Patio had umbrella coverage with sunshine coming thru in some areas. We took in the beautiful ambiance of it all. We really need a summer home here!

Southern Hash with gluten free marionberry scone

This is a popular place! 15 min wait at 11:30 on a Tuesday in December. (Which I realize isn't bad... I just haven't had to wait anywhere for lunch yet... I'm fairly new to the area.) I got the Southern Hash which is poached egg and hollandaise on potatoes and veggies and feta. Holy. It was so good. The fruit cup was too! Fresh pineapple and tasty berries! I was happy to have the gluten free option but I should have gone with my gut and requested a muffin instead of a scone. I could tell when I saw them in the case that they were dried out from sitting there sliced open. Muffins are self-contained and hold moisture better so I'll try that next time!

McKay Cottage lived up to its reputation as the best breakfast in Bend. We tried to come Sunday but the wait was too long (not a bad thing), so we came back on a Tuesday and got seated within 10 minutes. We enjoyed the laid back patio and tasty mimosas and fresh coffee. The Baja has stack was delicious & I couldn't eat it all. The smoked salmon benny was fresh and the salmon was smoked perfectly. The SCONES I got the Marionberry scone that came with the best French butter. I could have eaten 10 of them. Our server was attentive and we enjoyed speaking to her. If we lived in Bend, this would be a regular spot for us.

Our server was so friendly and nice! She was very attentive and offered great recommendations, including the sticky bun, which was our favorite part of the meal! Portions are huge - I struggled to eat just the eggs on my plate, let alone the potatoes and sticky bun. Got a drip coffee which was just okay, but the bloody with the spicy vodka was phenomenal. Would recommend!!

As usual, awesome breakfast and friendly folks. Long wait on Valentines Day (to be expected) 1.5 hrs. But we know that going in. Worthwhile. Able to have a Bloody Mary before we got in which was nice. Might split a meal next time since it's so much. We ended up in the tent again but it was warm in there with the heaters going and plenty of light. They have it all decorated for V day.

Only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because if I lived closer I would probably eat here too often and that feels medically irresponsible. I'd give it 6 stars if Yelp understood burgers better.

One thing we didn't get but looked awesome: I don't know if we missed out on some gem, but so many people were getting the burgers/fries from one truck. Also, so many other people were getting stuff from the Thai truck. And to top it off... the beer/cider station had an awesome deal. We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. We started our meal with a delicious non-alcoholic drink and the Chef's Board: a charcuterie with an assortment of cured meats, rustic bread, and various spreads. That came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. It pains me to say this as I'm a business owner in this industry; I get the stresses that come with the tasks at running a business like this. BUT, they need to make some changes immediately. It was a "comedy" night and the host wasn't just bad at hosting, but obtuse, rude and disrespectful to me, my friend, the music entertainer and the patrons. A hostile and incompetent staff didn't provide any help or follow up. I can't get too into details atm for litigation reasons but like I've said, I've never had any problems in any bars with anyone before or have had such an egregious experience that left me bemused to the point where I felt the need to issue a 1 star experience. You have to really mess up to get a 1 star from me. To the owners: I'll be submitting a formal complaint and seeking financial retribution through the Office of the Oregon Attorney General, a secondary complaint will be filed with the BBB as I won't put up with this dubious behavior from your staff or from anywhere. This behavior is unacceptable, unethical and it ultimately places your patrons and staff at risk of bodily harm or injury. I'm going to get down to the bottom of this civilly, legally and swiftly. Oh and the food; I'm sure it's not bad but full disclosure I didn't have any tonight. BUT HERES MY TAKE: Beer prices were typical. Kids menu was decent but kinda small. The adult food was over priced but what else are you going to eat with no other food options near by. The menu is ok but you'll spend 10 Barrel money; min $17 for a sandwich. If you get a beer too make it $25. If you like tacos you'll spend $16 for x3 shrimp tacos!(Which Im sure are frozen shrimp). Those are typical prices like ten barrel, brother John's, etc. but that's a lot of money for not much of an experience or room to breathe and stretch your legs. I'd rather go to the Cross-Eyed cricket down the road and spend the same amount and have a lot better of a time without feeling claustrophobic, ripped off or threatened. For those first timers; IMO this wasn't built as a restaurant to accommodate an experience for guests. This is a tiny bar and tiny inside sitting area that was made to wrangle people in who are on a tour to make more money off of them. Not provide an experience worth your money. BIG DIFFERENCE. There's basically 8 parking spots I think. So plan on parking on the street. Or across the street. This was built to make beer and then the bar came as an after thought. You could go to Cheba hut on a Monday night or Tuesday night and have a blast with just $25. Again not bad food, just way over priced for the experience. Plenty of other bars/breweries that have an attentive staff who are friendly and have great food/beer options.

I found myself wishing other areas of the restaurant had been designed or decorated more intentionally to honor its soulful past. It wants to be a high class spot, but something about the interior design feels underwhelming. I enjoyed the drinks I tried although the menu seems a bit unimaginative. The energy was strange, maybe it was that night, but bar staff seemed to be a bit "altered" and on edge. One was wearing what may or may not have been an intentional cologne that smelled like the overpowering essence of hot rubber mixed with cigar smoke, and leather.
