I got the One Twenty Three Burger with the California Garlic Fries. This was the most enjoyable burger I've had in so long. It was everything that I expect, desire, and DEMAND from a burger. I mean... I had burger juice running down my face. I had burger juice trickling down my arms. It was a celestial experience. And also, ALSO! Can we just take a moment to appreciate how CUTE this burger is?! Like, it's just... Wow. It's a beautiful burger. It's just sooo good-looking. (Ok, maybe I need therapy after the pandemic. Wow, what a fun spot! This is in a great location downtown. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of parking, but plenty of side street parking nearby. We went for a late dinner which was the perfect time! Not too busy, and the place is naturally not super bright indoors, so it really set the vibe. I know they have a patio as well. We ordered delicious burgers and fries, but in such a sophisticated environment that it felt like a gourmet meal! The cocktails were also wonderful. I also got a side salad, but I didn't love the dressing, so I would ask for that on the side next time (as it was a little too lemony for me.) Our food came out quickly despite the fact that the restaurant was entirely full. It superseded my expectations for the quality of the food. It was well worth the wait and the price. While on a quick last minute trip to Grand Rapids for the weekend, 6 of us didn't really think about all the COVID restrictions. We had the hardest time finding anywhere to just sit down and have a drink. After 4 failed attempts at other bars, we ended up here at 123 Tavern. They seated us all together right away on the patio. What a great find!! The drinks were creative, strong and delicious. Nice beer selection too. We even ended up sharing a couple appetizers. Yum. My friends and I wanted to go out to lunch, and this was the only place we could find that was open for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. I'm so glad we came here! None of us had been here before, but I know that will change. The environment was great, our server Myah was super friendly, and the food delicious. I got the smash burger, which was wonderful, with the Cali fries. The aioli that came with it was great! I got the fried chicken sandwich to take home for my boyfriend, and he said it was one of the best chicken sandwiches he's ever had. We had high hopes for one twenty three tavern, but unfortunately, it was lackluster. Three of us ordered cocktails, and absolutely none of them were good. It's rare that a cocktail doesn't impress me (that may not be great to admit), but these were short on both flavor and alcohol. We opted for ciders and beer after that. There are some solid options! Entrees, sides, and small plates were somewhere between "fine" and "good." The truffle fries are loaded with raw minced garlic, so as the biggest garlic fan of all time, you'd think I'd be jumping for joy but the garlic was overwhelming and powerful, and the truffle flavor wasn't strong. The vegetarian banh mi was pretty good, similar to the deviled eggs. We most enjoyed the Brussels Sprouts salad, which was different than your typical Brussels dish. We decided to go for dessert because those options sounded incredible. The key lime creme brûlée was pretty tasty, but I wish it had more of a brûlée-ed feel. It was more crunchy, granular sugar topping and less of the hardened, torched, caramelized top layer that we love. The bread pudding was also good, but missing a richness that we were hoping for. Maybe serving it warmer plus deeper chocolate flavors would have taken it to another level. I have to say our server was wonderful, and we had no issues being seated on a Saturday night. I know this is early for the restaurant, so I'm hoping they can grow and improve and become a favorite for GR. read more

7pm on a Friday... I'm finishing the last bites of the shrimp and grits and brussel sprout salad. Both were suprisingly good. I rinsed them down with the pineapple mule. Also pretty good. And decently priced for a downtown dining spot. Modest but crisp styling, a variety of music overhead at a nice volume for socializing, and decent lighting made the atmosphere quite pleasant. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, had tried everything on the menu, and after asking him he offered his personal picks and crowd favorites from each section of the menu. A group of six of us went there on a recent Saturday night around 9:30 pm for some drinks and food and my opinion of this place continues to be high, and even went up. With six of us there was a lot of variety to what was ordered and nothing disappointed. I particularly liked the hummus (the crunchy chick peas were a nice touch), others loved the Brussels sprouts appetizer, their burgers, and meatloaf (which I've had before and recommend). Our waitress was excellent and appropriately attentive which seems to be hard to come by in Grand Rapids lately. This is the perfect place to go for dinner before going to a movie at Studio Park. I rarely write reviews, but I couldn't have been more appreciative of the staff at 123. One item was left out of my pick up order. As often happens, I realized this once I got home, ready to enjoy my meal. Mistakes happen. However, when I called the restaurant, the gentlemen I spoke with was incredibly gracious and brought the missed item to me, incredibly quickly. Found this place on Yelp while in GR on business. Had read the review and the raves about the meatloaf, and being there on a Monday night the meatloaf was the special at half price! OMG, now that I've tried it, I would gladly pay the $18 regular price, but getting this dish and sides for $9 is unbelievable!!! I took my fiancée there for date night, and we were really looking forward to trying this out. They were slow, as Covid reduced the seating to 25% of capacity. We ordered our drinks, The Sazerac for me, and Aviation for her. Both of the drinks were very good. Great flavors. We started out with the California Garlic Fries. For $8, I was hoping for a bit more. It was a plate of shoestring fries, and they came out lukewarm. The sundried tomato aioli was really good. The garlic oil, with chunks of garlic, was a bit on the spicy side, which garlic can be. Overall, not impressed. We got a side salad with their Miso Dressing and their house made ranch. I liked the Miso dressing, she loved the ranch. I got their soup, which was a steak tortilla soup. It was pretty good. For dinner, we shared the Risotto with Shrimp. The risotto was flavored well, but undercooked quite a bit. As a matter of fact, my leftovers were still crunchy. Not what I expect out of risotto. The shrimp added on was $6, and you got 6 decent sized shrimp. The problem? They were extremely fishy. The service was great, they split our risotto in the back in to two separate bowls, which was nice. Overall, could have been better. Might return to try something else. read more

I definitely wouldn't sleep on this place! I was expecting a glorified Applebees experience, and I couldn't have been more wrong. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. The drink selection had something for everyone. I appreciated that one twenty three is quiet and I could actually talk to my bf without yelling over loud music. I was able to find a street parking space so I did not use the parking garage, but it's there. I will definitely be coming back! read more
