Haven't been to Walker roadhouse for a moment so we went because we heard they had a great burger special on Wednesdays. We sat at the bar and we quickly attended to. The place was packed and it was busy for a weekday. We both ordered the burger special and didn't have to wait too long. It's a real bargain at $10 for a burger and a 12 ounce bottle of beer. Stopped on Friday night with my family for the perch dinner. When we got there at 5pm there was a 45 minute wait for 6 people. We only ended up waiting maybe 20 minutes and then were sat in the extended patio type area. personally, I don't like sitting out there because it is really loud. we are quickly greeted by our waitress in, ordered some waters, a captain and Coke and a white sangria. where then read the specials and then brought a basket of rolls. my nephew loved the role so much. I think he ate six while we were there. we all ordered the purge dinner which came with coleslaw, fries, and lemon wedges. My husband and I always enjoy coming here, and this visit was no exception when it came to the food -- everything was delicious, as usual. We brought some family members with us this time, along with our baby, and everyone enjoyed their meals overall, though my mother-in-law's burger was unfortunately undercooked. What disappointed us this visit was the service. Our server (listed as 'Z' on our receipt) came across as very monotone and made us feel rushed throughout our meal. While I understand it can be busy at times, we didn't feel the same warmth or attentiveness we've experienced on previous visits. The service was absolutely amazing, our server was nice and kind and friendly. The place and atmosphere threw us off for a sec, was expecting more bar food- but wow! After we ordered- I got the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf- we shortly got free biscuits... and honestly they wasn't the best, good but not great... but then just few minutes later the food came(like it seemed almost too fast) and it came out HOT and omg so delicious! The meatloaf tasted unique and flavorful, the white cheddar mac and cheese was creamy and warming, and the fries (although a little salty) were cooked to perfection! The atmosphere here is reminiscent of an old fashioned Train Depot. The fact that it never was is applause to the architect for giving it such character. I ordered the Bourbon Maple - Peach Pork Chops ($18) with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and a House Salad (+$3). The meal was a little confusing First off the flavor of the Bourbon Maple Peach was so mild in taste to be almost non existent. However the 2 Pork Chops were thick and cooked perfectly. It was sadly very anticlimactic to eat. The mashed potatoes were good, but nothing special. The salad was very good, though I don't get why it as one of my 2 sides cost an extra $3. The person I was with got the Roadhouse Burger ($12). It looked to be cooked right and it was claimed to be good, but I got the impression it wasn't great. Also she stated the chips were extremely salty! Presiding the meal we received rolls. These were the best part of the meal. Very soft with and amazing taste and texture. The service was good and friendly. They did a very good job keeping my drink full. Overall I wanted to give a better rating, however I just can't justify it. It was a disappointing 3 star review. I came in with high hopes. Would I return? Probably not. However if someone else wanted to go there I'd give them another chance. read more

Have not been here in a couple years! Food has definitely gone down hill . Had the tuna appetizer was terrible could of got better frozen , because that's what it was . Had the perch dinner while the perch itself was good the batter was literally mush ! As well as the fries . So thanks but no thanks I will not be back . read more

I ordered a salad for takeout and it was the most pathetic salad I've ever gotten. I ordered southwest chicken salad with crispy chicken. It had no tortilla strips at all, which I had ordered extra. Had a few pieces of chicken in the corner of the container...very few!! The core part of the lettuce was throughout the salad. At least 4 large ones. Of course I had to remove them and throw away. It was the most unappealing and awful salad I've ever encountered. For 15.00 a pop for a salad, I expect the salad that I ordered and certainly did not get that. I had the grilled chicken breasts with teriyaki and mango with balsamic Brussel Sprouts and Sweet Potato Fries (I loved the side of goat cheese)! The Walker Roadhouse, located on the West Side of Grand Rapids has been a staple of the neighborhood for many years! They serve up some classic American cuisine with some great regional favorites such as Perogies and Perch! The building itself is older and remodeled but very comfortable. You can eat on the "porch", the main dining area of the Fireplace room. The servers are super friendly and very attentive- several of them have been there for 10+ years! The owner, Billy, can often be seen there on weekends and evenings so make sure to snag him and say hi- he is so friendly! The food is some of the best around- and they even make all their own bread! I branched out tonight, in several ways, as we returned to a local Westside hotspot. This place is known for their perch, and my family LOVES that dish. I can not attest to the taste factor etc, because unfortunately I can't eat fried food. ANYWAY - I tried the Blue Cheese Sirloin Pasta dish (I rarely order pasta at restaurants). I was torn between that and their Cilantro Lime Shrimp skewers. The pasta was a fettuccine noodle, covered in a cream sauce, with sautéed mushrooms, green onion, sundries tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles and 3 2oz sirloins cooked medium rare. Portion was a good size (took home leftovers!). The dinner rolls (# of people = # of rolls), while late in coming out (came out with our meals) were warm and soft. I had the house Cabernet Sauvignon (swapped my usual local beer for a more refined beverage) - very nice, smooth. One of my dinner mates had the house Pinot Grigio, & it was too dry for her but I thought it was perfect for a Pinot... Birthday dessert for my dinner mate was complementary. The Caramel Apple Turnover was her choice. SO YUMMY!!! Turnover was warm and soft, the ice cream had caramel drizzle...Next time though the peanut butter pie has my name on it. Definitely a busy place, but we got in before folks had to start waiting for tables. Volume is loud (acoustics not the best). Every time I come here, I'm pleased with what I get. read more

I did want to like this place because I appreciate that they have a "gluten friendly" menu (despite a warning of cross-contamination due to use of a single fryer). Unfortunately, my order was so wrong, combined with the spotty service, that I would never go back. The cornmeal dredged perch had zero seasonings, and was served with sickly sweet mayo that substituted for tartar sauce, I suppose. The two sides I requested (included) -- Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes -- were not provided. Instead, I was treated to a plate of French fries and no other side. I pointed this out to the server, and was brought a dollop of cold mashed potatoes. Yuck. Not to mention I did not get what I paid for. Husband's fish was no better, and our waters were never refilled. We can't recommend. So not good. Were they even trying? Have you seen our waitress? We seem to have lost her. We were seated quickly and ordered some soft drinks which we got quickly and managed to order an appetizer..... Then poof, she was done waiting on us..... No more contact. One of the other waitresses felt sorry for us ad brought us refills...
