I decided very recently to get a loan to consolidate my debt and to pay off my credit cards. I received the most positive response from One Main Financial, a pubic-held company who is traded on NYSE. I spoke with Vernisha in one of their central office who pre-approved my loan. I decided to pay a visit to their local office in Alameda, California. I spoke with Patrick very briefly prior to my visit in their Alameda office. He is very polite and helpful and new. Yet, he works hard and asks questions from his co-worker Nancy who is very helpful. He also receives guidance from the manager of this office, Britney. Britney is so knowledgeable, so helpful and so very nice! I was most impressed with the speed they work and their attention to detail. They helped me to finish the entire loan process within a couple of hours. I was funded the next day! First off they used a 3rd party company to confirm how much I make, which they were way off, then they wouldn't allow me to send my pay stub to prove what they had was wrong until I threatened to give them a bad review. After submitting all the documents they asked for, no one called; So I called and followed up the next day. Jacob said that unfortunately I was only actually approved for $2,500 and they still needed to use my $7500 car for collateral. I figured it was a mistake and asked him to talk to Kim, the manager, and get back to me because I needed the $4k or more for my dogs surgery. No one called for 2 days, so I followed up again. The other positive reviews you've read about their customer service are true... They really are outstanding! (What I mean by 'Quick') I applied for a loan online by answering a few questions about the loan amount, and my income. I uploaded documentation (my ID and my Pay Stubs) and was contacted the following day by Pam G. from the San Leandro Branch. She's awesome by the way, and makes things happen! Ask for her, you won't be disappointed. She asked me specific questions related to my debt to income ratio such as rent, auto payment, gas, insurance and the like. They'll also ask why you need the loan. Within hours after getting off of the phone, I received a call back informing me that I was approved for $5K. I went to the branch location, signed some docs and the money was in my checking account the following day. (What I mean by 'Fair/Average Credit') One Main uses Vantage 3.0 to check your credit score. I'm around 650 with fairly new lines of credit which are all in good standing with flawless payment history and I have under 20% credit utilization. I submitted the income report to them, first the agent said the part of my income is "too new", so he didn't ask me to submit that part of my income at all. Then the agent asked me to submit the child support document(court doc) and bank statements, he rejected the loan application because he said " it didn't say "child support" next to the wire-in transfer. This is a predatory lender Loan sharks and when asked for a payoff amount, it was more than the balance that I owed. I asked how that was possible and they stated added fees. They also said my loan was modified when they had offered me more money and change my payment date. I was never told of extra fees if you wanted to pay it off. I guess that is why it says in your online account that balance may not be your payoff amount. I was never explained thoroughly about unknown fees and that none of my interest would be given back. Also, they tell you in order to get a loan, they will need to debit your bank account on a certain day each month. What they don't tell you is that it is better to pay ahead of your payment date, in order to take off the most interest. They hold this bit of info along with your interest. I was so mad that I let a couple of bills go and took my last dime to pay off the loan. They are the biggest crooks. Unless it is a life or death, find another option. Run to the nearest Regional Finance, where you will be treated respectfully from the start. read more

One Main Financial is heavy into advertising to you once you become a customer. This wouldn't be so bad if the services for this corporation were not, so location based. For the past 30 days, they have automatically drafted my payments from an old account twice after I have changed the payment information. This in spite of me proactively going online and changing the account information. While the company allows you to perform account payment modifications for some reason this payment modification doesn't replace what the company has in their system. Please understand, when you log into your account, you can see the changed payment information, but the company continued to pull money from the old account. I'm very confused as to why a company provides the means to accomplish responsible payment and account modification but doesn't allow the information to replace the previous payment information. I was informed by a Clinton Maryland Branch representative that modifications to the account could only be done by the branch. This further confused me, so I asked, why does the website allow you to change the payment information if it doesn't take until you change this information through the local branch? The representative had no idea why the company allows that option but doesn't apply it. He then told me I had to come into the branch to fill out a form. At this point, I'm becoming frustrated, in the world of technology, why is this company still operating in the stone-age of business. I asked why there is not an online form or perhaps I could send you a canceled check. The representative then accepted the canceled check suggestion. I emailed the canceled check, and he never replied, another Clinton Branch Representative reached out to me a few days to apologize and make the corrective adjustments to the account for payments. Needless to say this morning I awake to another overdraft action on my old account. This is now twice this company has failed to change this information for account payments properly, their technology seems is ineffective, One Main Financial is not a green-initiative company as they rely on paper forms but fail to include information on this process on their website. I would NOT recommend this company through any branch; although they advertise as a company, they operate like a mom-and-pop store. As they are location specific and their website is only effective in telling you if you've paid or if you have missed a payment. Simply put, if the website options are not directly modifying the account and associated actions then what is the purpose of having those options without explanation to the customer? This company should reimburse the fees I have incurred due to their ineffective processes. I will update this review after/if I hear back from someone. RUN. This company is nothing but bad news. I didn't take out my loan with them, but the acquired the loan from another lender. I had an 18k credit line and nearly 20 years of never missing a payment. I should have done my research on this company, but I didn't. After pulling out a couple thousand for a home repair, I setup automatic payments with them. Unfortunately for me, automatic payments have to be renewed annually with One Main, and sadly I missed a payment when I forgot to renew the automatic payment after one year. Does One Main bother to say anything? Nope. They closed the account for delinquent payment and put a negative entry into my credit report. I know of no other lender that would behave in such a way, and I would never do business with such a lender. Even if you think they are your best hope for a loan, look elsewhere. read more

I have had loans with One Main for several years. I wanted to consolidate my loans at a lower APR. The process took several days as I had questions and was busy. During this time Billy at the Glendale CA branch would pick up or return my call same day. After closing the loan, I had a question about my first payment amount. I called 3 times in a week, always well before the branch closed. No one picked up, always a voice mail. I went on line and found their 800 main number. That person was indeed able to answer my questions and my first payment was larger than I thought it would be. In fairness, it was probably in the document I signed but I specifically asked what my first payment would be to Billy and it was not that amount. Bottom line, they're happy to help you to make money but the follow up was horrible. read more

I went to get a loan. I got it. Douglas failed to tell me about late fees and he told my payments were 160 not 162. After being charged $10 late fees while always paying on time the branch manager explained i was 2 short monthly and she waived two late fees out 7 i was owed. I let it go. After the pandemic i informed of my situation after they called me daily multiple tomes a day. I still paid my account. I asked them why they were still charging late fees to ppl splitting their payment during a pandemic where we lost jobs and gov wasnt helping or if they had anything in place for those customers. Fast forward today. Douglas gets all mad and takes it personal when j go to change my contact info after realizing they arent willing to help. (No point in them calling and emailing me or me paying when they arent helping and i cant afford it) after getting off the phone Douglas calls me back and says I cant make changes without signing a form (lie 1) i come down there to talk to branch manager About my situation again, im angry and frustrated but i didnt cuss her out. I leave. I realize i forgot to sign thw papers. Upon coming back shes said i csnt come in, im like i just need to sign the papers. She goes we can email you. I call customer service they say it cant be emailed. I tell her shes lying but i do not have to come in just bring the paper out ill sign it and go. She goes points to cops saying they're here you better go. I say no because i did nothing wrong but you called the cops lying on me, like a karen so good luck to you. Cops tell me she called saying i was waiting to harm them when they got off work and they never called me. I show cops my call log and explain he called me back told me to come down and hung up in my face. Manager admits they was made i was changing my contact info bc me and the cops catch their lie. At the end cops themselves tell me i should call customer service and their HR to report them bc it was obvious they called to file a false report and cause harm to a black person using the police. This was the first time engaging in such a situation, i've dealt with racism, but never had someone lie on me to the cops blatantly. I thank god the cops was patience, listened and that i could articulate myself correctly bc their racist bad attitudes could have cost me my life. I am currently reaching out to higher ups on linked in, twitter, making a report with APD captain and speaking with a lawyer due to this incident.
