I'm so glad I went by Patelco at the Oakland City Center. The staff greets you by name and their customer service is amazing. Manager Jackie turned my bad experience years ago with Patelco Berkeley into a great one today . They performed a financial wellness check for me and notified me of all the wonderful offers they have lined up . It's Patelco 90th birthday celebration and this location offered treats like coffee, cupcakes ,magnets and more. You can tell this office has a great environment as all their staff was smiling and ready to help. Kudos to Jackie, Bryan, Ari, Norman and even security David. He greets and opens the door . Use Bill Payer at your own risk! We found out the hard way that Patelco does not have any guarantee that Bill Payer will pay your bills on time, and if you get stuck with late fees, it is on you. My husband and I have been loyal members for more than 20 years, and now, we are so disappointed. I wish Patelco were more upfront that Bill Payer comes with no guarantee. It's up to you, the member, to make sure that the bill is paid when it's supposed to have been paid -- especially when it's sent through the mail. My bad for assuming the payment went through when the money was withdrawn from the account. (So who made the $$ when the funds were floating?) We wound up paying hundreds of dollars in delinquent penalties when Bill Payer failed to send our property tax payment. No sympathy from Patelco on that front. Patelco withdrew the funds from our account in early March and never acknowledged that they were still holding the funds an entire month later. They only returned the payment to our account when we inquired and found out our property tax was never paid. Sorry Patelco. We're taking our business elsewhere. And I think the least you can do is to warn your members that Bill Payer is not always reliable, and should be used at your own risk. read more

I had walked in and originally trying to close my account which I have had for a little over three years. when I started telling brenda(a service representative) I planned on closing it. She very politely had asked me what brought me to closing it. I had explained my situation and she had guided me in a way to not just stay with Patelco but actually helped me with what I needed to do. I have been a Patelco customer for many years since moving to California and always enjoyed banking with a local credit union. However, this most recent chain of events involving a ransomware attack has me looking for another credit union to bank with. Obviously something was very amiss with Patelco's security that they had to shut down all their customers' banking for going on a week now, during a time when there was a holiday weekend, and the 1st of the month when everyone's rent and mortgages were due. Their terrible response to their loyal membership, their canned updates, their days without specific info, and not being able to provide account balances is really awful. I hope the board and the leadership team review what exactly went wrong here because many members will pull their money once we can actually access it. read more

I stopped by in the afternoon on a Wednesday to get a cashiers check to buy a car from a local car dealer. I've never visited this branch but had a great experience here! I appreciated the quick service (everyone was busy but there was no line). The woman who helped me (I really wish I got her name, she was so nice!) was super friendly and efficient and easy to work with. I was in and out within 10 minutes or less. The only possible question mark about this location is the parking situation, my husband dropped me off and circled around til I was done but I'm not sure how much parking there is easily available in the location - I'm from a more suburban area so I'm used to easier parking, but this is probably expected for a city like Oakland and I definitely can't hold it against Patelco, just wanted to mention this. It was my first experience securing a fair and competitive auto loan--easily beating what Toyota Financing can offer. Nervous I was, luckily Jackie was empathic and provided clarity at every step. The customer service here is pretty good; I'm acknowledged, and the place feels welcoming when I do business in-person. I once thought I lost money after leaving money in the ATM (thinking about too many things!) and one of the employees had me laughing (and relieved) when I picked it up. I also want to acknowledge the security guard who found the cash I left behind. I've been with Patelco for three (?) years. My first credit union was Provident and there was always some hoop to jump through when I wanted to withdraw my money or do some business. Patelco has been pretty good. Even the customer service online has timely with responses and thorough when handling disputes and concerns. read more

I was so impressed with the outstanding service we received at this branch. Alexander assisted us with opening both accounts. Alexander answered all of our questions as well as provided suggestions that would benefit my sister with her brand new accounts. Oh, come on! Why does it only take Wells Fargo and other banks mere seconds to Zelle money to my Patelco account, but it takes almost a week for Patelco to Zelle money to banks? My money is removed from my account, I have no access to it, and it's somewhere in space (making Patelco extra interest fees from elsewhere, is my guess), for 5-7 days! What is up??? read more

This recent ransomware attack ruined all the trust I had in this bank. While I do think this attack could have happened to many credit unions, the three weeks that it took to get the systems back up and running was absolutely out of the question. If there was any small portion of me that was still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, the canned 'Thank you for your loyalty response...' made me pull all my money. They absolutely did not incentivize staying. You need to DO something for the immense chaos we've dealt with. Why would I stay given the clear risk of your not offering anything to stay? Run-- there are to many better options. read more

After hearing about great reviews about Patelco I decided to sign up. After two weeks of not receiving my card and I went to this branch ready to close out my account. Ms. Walker, one of the financial specialists promptly assisted me with this and I received a new debit card on the spot. The Freud department at Patelco helped me get money back, lots of money back, that had been wire transferred to a fraudulent account as part of a very sophisticated money scam. This is unheard of, and seldom can anything be done in these cases. I am very grateful for this and for the solid work done by this particular department at Patelco. read more

Patelco has an unethical loan application process in which they ask you to open a bank account with them, create the impression that they have *approved* your loan (this is *after pre-approval*) after submitting necessary documents then they deny your loan application because they include student loans (which are current) as part of the debt ratio even if your income is high (over $90,000 and stable). If you are a millennial or younger with student loans, forget about this establishment. Please avoid them at all costs. They claim to be for the people but they actually don't support regular folks. read more

I love love love this branch. I started my account about a year ago with the branch manager she was helpful with all the information she gives you. I am currently working with Marika who is a certified Finical specialist who is helping me with finances and, my household budget. She is really knowledgeable at this she has made me feel so comfortable with her I didnt belive it was possible to do in 2 weeks I just feel like she gets me and, doesn't judge me I feel like she is leading by example I truly feel like she cares.
