I really love the vibe of this store! We stopped in during a first-ever visit to Decorah. I was in search of local cheese and singles of local cider. I scored, big time, on both counts. They carried a good range from local cheese maker WW Homestead and also had a nice variety of Wisconsin cheeses along with some imports. The cider selection really came as a wonderful surprise, though. I used to cider being given a short shrift compared to beer. Instead, they had a great variety from local cideries, and I even bought a bottle from Belgium! My husband found a few new beers, too. If and when I come here again, I'd love to look through more of the store, even as I check on the cheese and cider anew. This is definitely my kind of place. read more

We stopped in to grab sandwiches for lunch. We were there before lunch and we're the only ones ordering sandwiches. It took two staff members 20 minutes to make two sandwiches "made to order". We stood there and had no idea why it was taking forever. They did toast the bread. As pictured, I was glad they had GF bread but it made my sandwich much smaller. I got lettuce, red peppers, "avocado" the green paste you see on the lid, pepperjack and mayo. We bought a large bad of chips and a tea $2.29 and our total for two "no extras" sandwiches, the tea and one bag of chips was $24 and change. Still can't believe how puny the meal was. Only two veggies before you're charged .99 for extras. I expected it would be substantial and filling. Otherwise the store was clean, and has lot of options for foods and natural products. read more

A first time visitor, I spent the holidays in Decorah and quite often found myself dying of boredom (no offense, Iowa). As such, I made it a habit of getting stoned in secret and then trekking over to the co-op for... kombucha? Cheese curds? Who even knows what I deemed necessary to stuff into my boyfriend's grandma's refrigerator. We didn't technically "need" anything, but still I ran out the door every day with my boots unlaced, muttering, "Gotta go buy organic tampons and ouiofljdslkurfe..." before anyone could make note of the 75 Tampax sitting on the bathroom sink and that the second thing I said wasn't a real word. I'm sure the people working thought I was a freak, but they were so pleasant and always acted like seeing my chapped face and crazy eyes was the best thing to happen to them all day. They had everything you could want from a chain grocery store, but it was better because most of it was locally grown. If you're interested, the thing I bought the most of was Leinie's beer. read more

A lifesaver when we return to visit family in NE Iowa. Clean, great produce and lots of selection.

This was a great find in Decorah. I enjoyed the hot bar items and the excellent selection of quality produce. My only concern was that nearly all of the hot food items were lukewarm at best. Otherwise, the food was quite tasty and satisfying. It's a little pricey but that's to be expected. Decorah is a wonderful place to visit. Luther College is partially to thank for the diverse cultural offerings. There aren't a lot of towns this size with such a nice healthy food store. I came to Decorah several times this year on fishing trips. The co-op will definitely be on "must visit" list from now on. I'm looking forward to coming back. During the next visit if the hot food is hot, they will get the fifth star. read more

This is a nice little organic Coop that provided both a great lunch and breakfast while my wife and I were in town. It honestly is better than the one in Iowa City and was much cleaner. Produce looked fresh and all the workers were friendly/smiling. If I were living in the community, I could see myself eating there quite often. read more

This place is fantastic for a Co-op. Good grocery selection and really nice little deli. My wife and I ate here on a recent road trip. She was craving some vegetables and was pleased with the salad bar and it's choices. I wanted to try the hot bar and had their very tasty egg bake with nutmeg and polenta. Excellent. I also had a cold bean salad that was very tasty and light as well. The soups looked good too. Want a light, relatively healthy lunch or supper, stop here. Reasonably priced for any co-op and really exceeds expectations for a small town co-op! read more

The hot bar is nice, especially after the remodel. Although it seems to have taken a lot of space away from the rest of the store, because shopping feels really cramped and I no longer see several of the products I used to buy in the past. I'm always getting my cart stuck, running into things and people because it's so cramped in the grocery area. They also carry too many conventional items. I miss when co-ops, including this one, used to be more grassrootsy. They are all becoming more corporate-seeming, like Wholefoods. I also dislike that I have to bag my own groceries here. It is a pain in the neck to shop for more than just a few items. Still, very glad it's here and I wouldn't want to be without it. read more

Nice grocery store with collection of things that are difficult to find at Casey's General Store, Kum & Go or Fareway. If you like granola and wheat germ, you will fit right in. But even if you think you don't like those things, don't let the crunchy, organic vibe scare you away - the stuff here is mostly tasty, and you might find something interesting. They also have a nice buffet-style lunch and sandwich deli counter with an interesting selection. Eat it inside or outside on the sidewalk. read more

Stopped in here for breakfast two days in a row. It's a nice, clean, co-op with average pricing as compared with other co-ops. The staff was friendly. Breakfast on the second morning from their small buffet type area was incorrectly labeled, and I ended up eating something with dairy in it. Seeing as I am severely lactose intolerant I spent our 3 hour car ride home in pain and was sad. Despite this, we'll be back, and I'll be even more careful what goes in my mouth. read more

We needed a catered lunch to eat during a lecture at the Vesterheim Museum two blocks away. For 30 people, I ordered a large wrap platter, a large sandwich platter, and an appetizer platter. The food was excellent, and the amount was generous. Someone pronounced the dolmades the best she had ever had. The food was ready at the time we ordered it. The price was right, too. read more
