It was a little warm temperature-wise inside the place, but I loved the quaint feel of it with lots of Thai history and vibes all around. Our server was very bubbly and friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Service was a bit slow since she said it was just her and their cook in the kitchen, which was a little surprising given that we went on a Saturday evening. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. Both the chicken satay and the grilled pork we ordered were pretty dry. The tom kha soup was tasty, but only had mostly mushrooms, a huge sprinkling of green onions, and a very few shrimp. I've visited this restaurant 3-4 times before, and my experiences have always been exceptional. However, my visit last night was disappointing. I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the quality of the food and service was noticeably different. The steak dinner wasn't prepared the way it had been on previous visits, and my fish cake was missing the cucumber salad it's normally served with. It felt like the dishes were rushed or not completed with the same care, possibly due to the restaurant nearing closing time. Additionally, the service was lacking. Our server spent a significant amount of time sitting and chatting with another table, which made it difficult to get proper attention. Delicious Pad Thai and Druken Noodles. Portions were a beast. Flavor was spot on. My wife loved their Pad Thai and we decided to get level 7 of spice level. It was a great amount of spice for me in which we were still able to enjoy the flavor. Service was great. Staffs were friendly. Place was cozy. We decided to order take out from this location while staying at the Lakehouse Resort. There wasn't much customer during the day and time we went. My 2nd time dining at this Thai place after 5+ years. Decided to try it again. It's located in the Albertsons shopping center on the corner of San Marcos Blvd. & S. Rancho Santa Fe Rd. Parking by this place was a bit challenging, surprising since it was a weekday at 1:30. Walked in and was greeted right away, there was only 1 customer dining in at the bar. It's not a big place so it wouldn't be good for groups. The server was friendly and gave us the lunch menu. We ordered the Panang Curry with chicken, Yellow Curry and a Thai tea. The water and tea came in silver, thermos-like glasses, which we appreciated for keeping drinks cool. The food arrived in a timely manner. Unfortunately, the food here is lacking. Subpar in authenticity compared to the numerous Thai restaurants in North County. The Panang Curry was watery, and the vegetables consisted of what looked and tasted like a bag of frozen mixed vegetables in diluted curry paste. Every spoonful had A LOT of peas, cubed carrots and cut green beans. The flavor of the peas overpowered the taste of the dish. The bell peppers & the chicken were the only things that looked like it was actually prepared and not from a bag. The taste of the overall dish was ok, but was very disappointing since I came craving Thai food. The yellow curry was "different". Reminiscent of holiday flavors you expect at Thanksgiving. The curry sauce tasted like buttery popcorn. Finally, the Thai tea was also lacking in flavor and too diluted. Came here specifically for the Khao Soi, and it did not disappoint. I've tried Khao Soi at another Thai restaurant years ago and it was really salty and did not eat it again until I went to Thailand recently. Now this is all I think about! I'm so happy they made it exactly how it tasted when I had it in Thailand. We also ordered seafood salad (yum talay) and papaya salad, as you can see they're big servings! Mountain of papaya. Only thing is, I like my papaya salad manually fak'd (iykyk) with a knife and this one was done with a shredder so the crunch level was different. I love that the seafood salad had more than 2 of each pieces, there is a lot of protein under that hill. Fried fish was in there which was different but I like that it's not falling apart. The green curry looked semi-gelatinous which was odd, but the taste was good and packed with tofu and vegetables. The pad Thai was lacking fish sauce. The papaya salad was fresh, crunchy, and well-balanced. The only downside was the calamari, which was overcooked and tough. Some were rubbery so I ended up throwing it away. Onny's Thai is simply the best! We are lucky that we live right down the street from this restaurant and it has become my son's favorite place because of the food and also his girlfriends ;). Onny and Alice and everyone at Onny's Thai is amazing. We absolutely love the food, it is always fresh and delicious. Our favorites are the Tom Kha Soup, Pad See Ew, and Mixed Veggies or Thai Basil. We love their desserts as well! My kids will normally try to steal all the noodles and shrimp off my plate. The restaurant is small and inviting and the mural is so beautiful, we always have lots to talk about. Make sure to read their menu, it's a fun history of Thailand and of Onny's story! Whenever we visit my aunt in Carlsbad, we always take her to a different restaurant. She was craving Thai and said she had passed by Onny's before and never tried it. Hence we took her here and it was the first time for us all. Onny's is in the corner of a shopping center right across from a Mexican restaurant with lots of parking. The restaurant itself is quaint, beautifully decorated and we were welcomed by a friendly hostess/server. We shared the fried springrolls- perfectly crisp, filled with veggies and not greasy at all. It came witha dipping sauce which complemented it well. We also enjoyed the eggplant dish with bell peppers, other veggies beef for our selected protein. Flavors were on point and we all loved this dish. For our noodles we had Beef Pad Thai- also cooked perfectly. Finally- we had the sesame chicken- not too spicy or sweet and accompanied our meal well. We topped this off with their yummy Thai iced tea.
