First, the service at Thai Thai is amazing. Upon arrival we were greeted with a bow and a cup of water. We just grabbed take out and our order was ready to go very quickly in less than 15 minutes. I got the drunken/ spicy noodle with tofu. It was good and very flavorful. It definitely had some spice to it! The only thing is that it was a little oily and definitely a "heavier" drunken noodle, which I think was just the style of this restaurant. I've ordered lunch from Thai Thai at West Mission in San Marcos weekly for a long time and have spent a good amount of money here. Today was the last time. When I picked up my order I politely asked for a few slices of jalapeño on the side (three pieces total because I ordered two items). The two employees at the front made rude comments about me in Thai, not realizing I understand the language. When I repeated my request, they told me that next time they would charge me for the jalapeños. I said that was ridiculous and that they had just lost a regular customer over a few slices of pepper. I called the restaurant afterward hoping to speak with the owner or manager. The same employee answered, claimed the owner wasn't there, then said "I know who you are!" She accused me of coming in already angry, even though I had simply asked for a side of jalapeño. When I pointed out the lack of customer service and that I had overheard their comments in Thai, she hung up on me. She didn't answer when I called back. This level of rudeness and poor service is completely unacceptable, especially toward a regular customer. Employees need proper training on how to treat people. I will not be returning. read more

I wanted to give them a 5 star review because Thai Thai is a staple around here. The food is consistently good, but something that happened today was worth calling out. I ordered a meal and all sorts of things got added to my bill that most wouldn't notice. Extra chicken, vegetables. I ordered Tom Kha with chicken, not double chicken and not extra veggies. My $14 dishes were all $18. I was with my kids or I would have made more of a scene in getting it corrected on my bill. It wasn't one item that was incorrect. It was $20 in extra fees. It was embarrassing. I hope they catch who did that and correct this. I understand you want to get more money, but this isn't the way. Also got fried egg rolls despite asking for spring rolls. Bill was around $90 for $60 worth of food. I do think this was an exception and will give them another chance. Just make sure you look closely at your bill for extras you didn't order. read more

This place is amazing! My dad has been a loyal customer for a while and the woman there takes care of him like her own father. The food is flavorful and fresh. They accommodate special requests perfectly for him. There's only a few places he will trust and enjoy eating anymore and this is the best. He recommends the mixed vegetables, I tried the spicy basil with shrimp and some fresh spring rolls, so so so good. Great ambiance! This place is good for a group or an intimate date. The staff is so welcoming and super friendly. For starters we ordered fresh spring roll with half tofu and half shrimp. The order came with two dipping sauce... peanut and spicy (hot hot hot). The trick is to add more peanuts and mix the two sauces. For our entree we opted for the panang curry with pork, chicken, and shrimp. We also ordered spicy eggplant with fried tofu. These were served with brown rice (it heart shaped). Delightful lunch at this bright spot. We had Pla pad cha which was crispy tilapia fillet with chili sauce. The sauce had young peppercorn which was surprisingly mild so we can happily chew on. It went so well with red brown rice. We also had a terrific Glass noodle salad which was perfect in every way especially the sweet and sour sauce. Thai Thai West Mission is a place I really want to like. Although set in a typical SoCal strip mall, the restaurant is an expansive and attractive space, offering not only a fair amount of seating, but also a surprising amount of privacy because of its high-backed booths. The staff, too, is nothing but lovely. From the moment you enter, you are made welcome. Throughout the service, which is very good, not only are waitstaff unfailingly polite, but honestly happy and pleasant. I felt almost like I was in a friend's home rather than a restaurant. Where it falls down unfortunately is in the food. Part of it comes in the menu offerings themselves. The appetizers for the most part are not actually Thai. Eggrolls, potstickers, and fried calamari are all well and good, but they are not what I have come to eat. There are a number of other non-Thai dishes scattered throughout the menu as well. Admittedly, there are also a number of traditional dishes, but I can't help wondering whether these Chinese-ish items are on the menu because they sell. If so, that says more about TTWM's clientele than it does about the restaurant itself. More serious, however, is the quality of the food itself. While it is perfectly edible, it doesn't quite seem to be made with either the ingredients or skills one might hope. For example, their green papaya salad (also not Thai) was a bit too coarsely cut and the flavors unbalanced. The pad thai noodles, which should be a bit sweet, were almost sickeningly so. The noodles themselves were OK, but lacked that al dente quality they should normally have. And I could barely taste the chili jam in the cashew nut with chicken. In all, a slightly disappointing experience. I really hope that they can up their game. Right now, I would give the food overall a C. The one bright spot was they serve Singha beer in the large bottles and for a reasonable price. Indeed, that could be said of the entire meal. It was probably the least expensive Thai dinner I have had in a couple of years. But if the food isn't really up to snuff, I have a hard time justifying any cost at all. read more

What a cute little Thai restaurant with a great menu and very good food! We got there at 5pm on a Friday night. Hardly anyone was there when we arrived, but it started filling up. My go to is always chicken pad Thai. Trying to avoid carbs, so I went to my next favorite, green curry with chicken. I had the choice of white rice or brown. I was pleasantly surprised when the "brown" rice turned out to be traditional Thai berry rice. Yum! My meal had a generous amount of tender chicken breast. I like a bit of spicyness so I ordered a level 2. It was almost too spicy for me. Be careful with the spice level! We also had the crunchy calamari (a little disappointing because it was kind of rubbery and it wasn't tentacles and rings), the appetizer sampler plate (nice combination, served hot and crispy), pad Woonsen (delicious), and duck curry (also good). Super fresh herbs and flavors. We tried chicken satay (amazing peanut sauce!!!), pad thai, pineapple fried rice (gorgeous presentation), chicken wings, glass noodle salad, green curry (yum!), sweet mango with sticky rice. Even though the food is good, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone because they upcharge you on everything. Four of us ordered the standard dishes from the menu, but they gave us the larger size without telling us. They also asked if we wanted tea, but did not mention that the tea costs $6 per pot--and they brought us two pots. If we had known they were going to charge $6 per pot, we would not have ordered it. With all the unexpected upcharges, the bill came out to $98.36, which is more than $30 higher than what we expected. This restaurant is not honest, and I do not recommend going there. read more

I've been to all of the Thai Spots in San Diego and last on my list was this spot. I am so glad I found it and this is now my only go to spot for lunch specials and dinner as well as after church Sunday spot as well. The service, absolutely incredible as the owners are kind, respectful and compassionate in the way they take your order to the delivery of your food. Everything seems to be with a lot of care and detail. The restaurant is clean and they play great background music, trendy covers of top hits with music videos on the TV. The food! ! That's what sealed the deal for me. Let me begin by saying shout out to the chef. The flavors are so out of this world, just the perfect of sweet, sour, and spicy! The portions is perfect as well. The portion in the photo is considered a small but I had left over. The price during Sunday lunch and dinner time trends the same as other Thai places, maybe 50 cents difference but oh it's so much better here overall. I'd choose this Thai place over any other spots in SD and especially over any spots in San Marcos! Oh and with every meal they put out their spice tray for you to enjoy, you don't even have to ask. I ordered Pad Thai with chicken and asked for a mild spice level but the dish turned out extremely spicy--almost inedible. It honestly felt like there was more chili than actual ingredients. On top of that, there was barely any chicken--just a few small pieces that didn't really feel like proper chicken at all. Overall, it tasted more like plain noodles overloaded with spice rather than a well-balanced Pad Thai. For $21, this felt like a complete rip-off. My first time here and I loved it. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. I tried the spring rolls, a chicken dish, hot pot, and mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything tasted really good and fresh. I loved the flavor of the hot pot and loved that the noodles and veggies came on the side so we could add it and not worry about any of it getting soggy. Why do restaurants constantly mess up orders? I honestly do not get it. Major disappointment. The egg rolls were soggy and no flavor The red curry tasted like soap! Was disgusting. The pad Thai noodles were average, nothing special. My first time to eat here. I will definitely NOT be going back. I called the restaurant once I realized they messed up my order and the lady I spoke with was not helpful or cooperative. She gave me a third party phone number to call to dispute the charges. We ordered Thai fried rice with chicken, spicy noodles )which are basically flat noodles or called drunken noodles at other Thai places) and yellow curry Togo. This was large size of all the items ordered- it's a nice place in a small complex which honestly is very close to my place and so will likely become a place I can go for dine in too. Food was good except fried rice which was below average, they noodles and curry was good and must say the large size is a good portion for 3 super hungry people( could easily feed 4 people) Service was quick and lady at counter was nice! Looked like a good place as there were atleast 4-5 tables busy for a Sunday around 7pm. I will likely try them again read more

Lovely service at this newer location just off west Mission...Vista/San Marcos line as you are heading towards Escondido. We've frequented their other locations over the years. Usually around the holidays we'll dine in as a family and throughout the years we've gotten take out as well. We ordered the Tom Kha with vegetables and tofu. Very flavorful. Thai fried rice with chicken. Very tasty. We enjoyed our meal there. They were just wrapping up their day as we came in an hour before their closing hour. They welcomed us graciously and treated us with the same hospitality as our previous visits. The place is decorated seasonally along with traditional Thai imagery and themes throughout the restaurant. We sang along with the Christmas music playing in the background. "See You Tomorrow!" Wow, I am not sure what happened in the last two months, but I brought a large party with me full of excitement to eat here again. It was night and day. The service was horrendous. The communication problems led to several dishes going back. My favorite Spicy Eggplant was no where near the same thing that I ate there 2 months ago. I looked around and realized I didn't recognize anyone working there and asked if they had changed owners in the last two months. She assured me no, but that some had rotated to another restaurant they own. They add things you didn't order like rice and call your food large but on the menu it was the only size for $15.95 but add $5 extra on your bill for each plate. They overcharged the entire bill. If you order tea they will bring two huge pots for $12 extra which we never asked for extra pot. Never going back.
