now that over the last couple of weeks I've eaten my way through nearly half the menu , it's probably time I wrote a review. WOWZA. really delicious. I understand these guys are a chain which makes the amazing eats that much more surprising. dumplings: have had the FRIED PORK BUNS, the SHRIMP and PORK SHUMAI, and the PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS. all were amazing. the SHUMAI were the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot) and ordered them on two of our three visits. dipped everything in Sichuan red chili oil, light soy, and black vinegar mixed at the table from the condiment set-up. the twenty-year boy (man, they grow up fast, don't they?) had the HALF BBQ DUCK was another outstanding dish. moist and flavorful, not the almost duck jerky served at most places. the Sichuan-style HOT BOILED FISH is one of my favorites and I nearly always get it when it shows up on a menu. theirs is a bright, spicy, and well executed. my favorite dish was the EGGPLANT in Sichuan sauce with ground pork. anyway, pretty sure I'm going to be a regular. it's nice not having to drive three-quarters of the way to San Diego when I'm feeling more like Chinese food than Chinese-ish American food. read more

Food here was good, I would recommend the salt and pepper fish and the scallion pancakes. On their menu online it mentions them having fish and chive and vegetarian options for dumplings but they didn't have any when we got to the restaurant which meant we were only able to try the shrimp dumplings which were okay. After visiting them 3 more times in recently months, I have to update my review of this place I so enjoyed for a long time to a lower rating, and I'm saddened by this too. The food quality has gone down, and it's very apparent in their fried rices and chow meng dishes (reduced quantity of veggies and lacking flavors, lacking proteins). The restaurant cleanliness also went down when I visited recently. Servers are new but still friendly and swift! read more

We ordered takeout and the food came out hot and fast. The egg drop soup doesn't taste like the typical soup that I'm used to. This one isn't sweet and has tomatoes. So the soup tasted acidic/savory. The Singapore fried rice noodles dish has a lot of curry powder seasoning. The chicken is cut into very thin chewy slices (almost like chewing on chicken skin texture rather than the actual meat). There's a few shrimps thrown in there. The veggies are crunchy. Portion is huge so you can share it with another person or split it into multiple meals. read more

Came in with hubby for lunch, on a Saturday, after an eye exam. Not realizing it, we walked in 20 minutes before they actually opened. The guy at the counter was cool about it and welcomed us in. He insisted we sit down and look over their menu. We ordered a variety of plates. Everything came out hot and fresh. My favorite dishes were the pork dish and the eggplant. When they first opened I came all the time, to the point the servers recognized me. It was always packed with a wait. Everything I had was really good. Over the course of a few years it just wasn't consistent so i didn't come as often. Last night I wanted their hot and sour soup (they call spicy & sour). The restaurant was empty with the exception of 2 tables. We were seated instantly and given water. It was absolutely freezing inside and the front door was wide open on this cold rainy night. A family was at a table nearby dressed in heavy coats with hoods and hats on. My dining partner asked if the door could be shut and the one server on duty said no. They had the the air con on and the door open. We asked if we could move to the other side away from the door and were told that section was closed and we could not. It was uncomfortably cold so we left as did the groups who came in after us. Not sure what's going on, but this was one of my favorite spots in vista and it's sad to see what it's turned into. Maybe I'll check out the Oceanside location again, hopefully they are more accommodating. read more

What are we ordering? Xiaolongbao, Fried Rice, and Garlic Green Beans (or Bok Choy), and occasionally, Char Siew Buns or Egg Rolls. Sometimes, it's a double order of Xiaolongbao because one just isn't enough. The dumplings may break when scooped up from the steamer basket, sticking to the paper, causing the soup to spill out. Oh well. Always tasty with ginger though it seems that ginger must be requested. It used to already be in the steamer basket. They have a guide on how to best enjoy the soup dumpling thought I prefer to eat them with the ginger and vinegar, no soy sauce. Joyee can get busy at times but there's usually an available table and the wait isn't very long. They have these neon signs on the wall but the lights haven't been on the last few visits. Been here many times over the years. Whether my family and I eat there or order takeout, the food has always been consistent. Service has always been smooth, and I've never had issues with my orders. I am updating and downgrading my review after today's experience (I also noticed I overrated my firsts experience there, it should have been 3 stars since my spicy dumplings were overly salted). I was craving Xiao Long Bao and decided to go to Joyee for a very late lunch. How disappointing... Service is great here they are always very attentive and nice, the food is flavorful I had the wontons with chili oil they are really good and the green scallion pancake is one of the best appetizers to get it's similar to a quesadilla haha but their own version, the food always come out fresh & steaming hot and very fast paced which is great when your starving! I got the pork and chive dumplings, which are always good. I tried the chicken and corn dumplings which were ok. It was ground chicken with corn kernels. I think it would have been better if the corn was more ground up and there were more spices or something added. The cucumber salad was very very tasty. The beef with brocolli was also ok. Decided to go out to eat after a grocery shop (as you do) and this spot was across the street from a local Aldi's and what the family was in the mood for so we stopped in. Service was great! Attentive and quick and the whole space was spotless! We ordered the garlic green beans, pork soup dumplings, chicken with mushrooms, walnut shrimp and a small side of white rice. The waiter was very honest when he said that was a lot of food which is much appreciated, but we were happy to have left overs! But, I ended up sitting down with the family and everyone walked away happy, asking when we could come back. The decor is bright, very welcoming, making it easy to sit down and relax. Our main fare was a plate of the Pork Soup Dumplings. Not too salty, a good amount of broth in each, and still nice and meaty, they were a very decent entree. My son and I fought over the last one. I lost. Next we split an order of the Char Siew Buns. These were nice and sweet, served warm, and had a great doughy consistency before getting to the tender pork inside. And my wife opted for the Beef Wrap, which she enjoyed so much that she's been back here multiple times to get again and again. Honestly, exceedingly high praise from her. Their chow mein is one of the best I've ever had! The noodles are always cooked perfectly with a good chewy texture and the meat is always super tender. Great flavors and not overly greasy. I haven't had a bad meal here and tend to go for the Pork&Shrimp Dumplings that has 12 pieces from heaven. The cashier charged an extra tip without any notice or authorization! I had lunch at this restaurant when it was not busy--only three tables were occupied. During the meal, I tried to get the waiter's attention to order more food. I waved and called out to him several times, but he was wearing headphones and never looked up to check if any customers needed assistance. There was absolutely no service--I had to walk to the cashier's counter just to speak with him. Because of the poor service, I decided not to leave an 18% tip, but I still left a reasonable 15-16% tip. To my surprise, I later found out that the cashier charged me more tip without informing me! I've attached both the receipt and my credit card statement as proof. It's not about the few extra dollars--it's about the dishonesty and fraudulent behavior. Given the lack of service and the unauthorized charge, I'm extremely upset. This is a very untrustworthy place. I'm sharing my experience so others won't fall into the same trap. read more
