Great food. Fresh off the boat fish. Has wine. Indoor seating. Staff is friendly. Located in Bressi Ranch.

Update: Still good, great food! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really miss the outdoor tables, it was so nice to sit and enjoy the meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now there's no seating besides a bar type outdoor area, which makes it harder to come unless it's takeout since it's busy inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was also sad to see the lemonade go, it was a favorite and a highlight for me. Now it's just bottled drinks. Customer service could be a bit better, but the food is what makes this place amazing. Shout out to the chefs! They're the reason I'll always come back!

    SALMON & KALE bowl
    Jenny N.

First time here and I enjoyed the food so much! The gentleman placing our order was polite and patient. I got the salmon and kale bowl which tasted healthy and delicious. The kale was seasoned well. If you like onions, then you will like this bowl. My husband got the combo box. It came with fries, fried fish and shrimps. He loved that it came with 3 types of sauces: cocktail, thousand island and tartar sauce. We were full and satisfied with our dinner.

    Calamari fritti

We loved all the food here. Made fresh, fast and with friendly customer service. We were the only ones eating in house at the time, but this store had a steady stream of to-go orders. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decor was a soothing modern coastal, dining areas and restrooms were very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A spectacular sunset outside added to the ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Started off with the excellent New England clam chowder ($7) that had lots of clams, medium thickness, not too salty. Next up calamari fritti ($12) which was light and crispy, not rubbery at all. My mom and sister ordered wild ahi tuna plates ($17.50) and I got the battered Alaskan cod with fries ($14.50.) Praise to the cook for making our fish exactly right! The tuna was seared & tender and my cod was hot, flaky and not greasy. One of the sides was a sesame cabbage salad that I could've eaten a bucket of, it was so delicious. Their fries had that nice extra crunch and seasoned perfectly. The young man helping us recommended the wasabi aioli dip which turned out to be my favorite. Fish District is a solid choice for high quality, non fancy seafood that won't break the bank compared to the other resturants in the Carlsbad/Oceanside area. We will be back!

It's been growing on me as a nice healthy option near Bressi Ranch. It's been around for many years and needs more recognition as a decent neighborhood eatery. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think it's not top of mind because the seating is fairly limited- I'd recommend having no more than 5 people in your party at the most. There are only about 6 tables inside and three outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I do enjoy the flexibility to order different styles of fish. I usually get a salmon plate with a grilled filet with greens and veggies. I'd love to see them doing some kind of wine happy hour- it would be great to sit outside on the bar with a glass of wine and small bites.

Traditional style salmon, taco, and Baja style shrimp taco
    Trecia L.

Parking was easy on a Friday evening. It was after 8 pm. It wasn't busy. I ordered the traditional style salmon taco, and the Baja style shrimp taco. I didn't realize until, after ordering that the salmon was not wild caught, but it was tasty though. The shrimp didn't have much flavor, but the other items in it helped. I'll have to look further if they have other wild caught seafood since that's what I normally try to order.

Here's part of our receipt $$$$!

Food is very good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant is clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Came here to dine in one afternoon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was quite busy with lots of takeout orders.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's several tables for dining in. Ordered a clam chowder and the seared ahi bowl. The clam chowder was amazing, loaded with clams and the flavor was on point, nice broth not too salty. The bowl was good but a bit plain, would have been nice to have some additional ingredients like corn or black beans to add to the flavor. The ahi bowl just had lettuce and rice. Overall nice experience. Parking can be challenging depending on the day due to the popularity of Bressi Ranch.

    Awesome fish & chips!
    Sherri P.

Absolutely the best fish and chips we've ever had! The batter was perfectly crisp, the fish flaky and flavorful. The mango shrimp tacos were scrumptious--plump, juicy, and bursting with fresh flavor. On top of the amazing food, the service was so friendly and kind, which made the whole experience even better. We loved it so much and can't wait to come back!

Ok, if this review was just for the food it would be high, but unfortunately my experience was mixed. I have been craving fish and chips for about a week, which is rare, but I needed to get rid of the craving. We arrived at about 8 (I know they close at 8:30) and the restaurant was empty. The guy at the counter was friendly and polite. We ordered to eat in and sat down to wait. There was a lot of to go business so people were coming and going the whole time. One of the staff members was complaining to another about a previous customer and how she wanted something off menu and they were not going to give it her no matter how persistent she was. He went on about it for a while. Then they brought our food. It looked wonderful, the fish was golden, perfectly cooked on the inside and the fries were perfect. We happily dug in and it was everything I had been craving. They were apparently getting ready to close (it was 8:10) and they rolled out the mop and bucket after complaining how bad the bathroom and water in the bucket smelled. As we sat there eating I watched one staff members open a bottle of bleach and pour some into the bucket. I was a bit surprised they would do this with customers eating but I assumed they would probably roll it back into the back. They did not. Slowly the whole room started smelling stronger and stronger of bleach, to the point it made me a little nauseous and I couldn't eat any more. We emptied our trays into the trash and left. Maybe that was their goal to get us out? It was 8:24 when we got in the car so we weren't keeping them. This is likely a training issue but I think future visits will be during the day. It was really disappointing.

This is a chain store. There seem to be three of them in SD. I went to the one in Carlsbad. It was recommended by a friend. You can scan the code to order directly. No tip is required. My friend always orders salmon + salad every time. It's very fresh, healthy and delicious. I ordered a poke bowl and a taco. The poke bowl was great, very filling. The taco was a bit ordinary and not recommended to order.

After a long day at Legoland, we were ready for dinner. We decided on seafood and found this place nearby. I didn't get a chance to look at the menu before we left our hotel room, only my husband did haha. When we arrived, the restaurant was located in a shopping plaza directly in front of Stater Bros. There was plenty of parking. The restaurant was quiet, not too busy. When you walk in, you must place your order at the counter first and then sit down. We ordered the shrimp basket, shrimp po boy, poke and chips and a kids chicken tender plate. All were delicious. We will keep this place whenever we're back in Carlsbad.

Looks like 2 mozzarella sticks and a piece of fish
    Chris P.

I have been eating here for years. Never had an issue until last night. 3 piece fish and chips had the smallest pieces of fish I've ever seen. They are usually twice the size I received last night

Crispy rice poke. Must try! So good.

Got sick eating fish and chips. Not sure if it was the fish or the tartar sauce but my family got sick from eating from this location.

Surprisingly, the sourdough bread bowl tasted more spectacular than the chowder. Although the soup had clean ingredients, it's runny and a little bland. Fortunately, that fresh, flavorful sourdough bread had a happy crunch while also coveting that bold sourdough flavor. YUM! I arrived at Pelly's Fish Market & Cafe (Carlsbad) on a Saturday (around 12:55PM). Parking is easy. The lot is very big. Customers order at the counter, and Staff brings the food to your table. Staff is polite enough. Staff had a very laid back, casual presence. The male staff member just appeared & plopped the food on the table before strolling over to chat with another customer. The clam chowder bowl arrived in 15 minutes. As mentioned, I appreciated the Boston Clam Chowder Bread Bowl ($16.99). The soup was unremarkable, but the sourdough bread is phenomenal. I liked how the clam chowder is peppery and piping hot, but it's also fairly bland and runny. It had a very watery consistency. Thankfully, that fresh sourdough saved this meal. On ambiance, Pelly's Fish Market & Cafe (Carlsbad) is clean and comfortable. There's plenty of tables. There's also a gender neutral restroom in the back. I recall it being a delicious and a wonderful dining experience. I have been looking forward to bringing my family and friends here all week. I am giving this restaurant 3 stars, because their food is still AMAZING and their staff is super nice and I believe deep down inside that they just had a REALLY OFF night. We had reservations for a party of 9 last night. The table was set up nicely and accommodated a few extra if needed, which I thought was cool. We started with some adult beverages: an Old Fashion, some Hotel Nacionals, a Fashionably Late, and a couple of beers. Everything started great. Dennis, our server was very cool and friendly and gave great suggestions. We ordered the mac and cheese sides and they were delicious with huge pieces of savory bacon in them. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which we never received and didn't even realize it until the very end when we received the bill because of all the other issues we had... but we'll get to that in a moment. But let's talk about what did go well... the delicious food we did get. We ordered the Pig burger which was sooo good and came with crispy fries. The fish for the fish and chips were 2 huge pieces and were delicious, came with yummy seasoned waffle fries and the tiniest tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I had to request 4 more for that amount of fish, but no big deal. Dennis brought out as much as we needed. Their ranch sauce is really good too. Don't judge just because it's a little peachy'ish and looks thousand island'ish. lt's still some very good ranch. My son said he really tasted the bitterness of beer in the fish batter but maybe it was just in that piece he had; I could not taste it in the piece of fish I ate. The short rib was really tender and delicious... the sauce was just a tad salty for my taste, but the mashed potatoes it sat on sort of balanced it out a little. The fried chicken thighs were really cooked well, juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. We ordered two Teres Major steaks. One rare with mashed potaoes, one medium rare with grits. The rare one came out medium and without any mushrooms, took FOREVEEERR to remake (the rest of the table was almost done with our meals...& not sure why it took so long since the restaurant wasn't that busy and it's a RARE steak). The one with grits came with mashed potatoes instead of grits. Dennis was super nice and apologetic and corrected both mistakes when we let him know. He then brought us a big bowl of grits. The manager (blonde gal) came over and apologized for the mistakes tonight, letting us know that usually does not happen, and let us know she'd be comping one of our steaks and would be bringing a dessert on them. We thought that was very nice of them. However, as nice a gesture. we never did receive that dessert. My husband handed Dennis his credit card before the bill arrived (before our friends could try to pay the bill) and not sure why but our bill never came, and we never saw Dennis again either after he boxed up our leftovers and took the card. We had to ask another server for our bill because we had been waiting for quite a while... and needed to head out as we were already late to meet friends at a lounge. The other server came back with my husband's credit card, the bill (that's when I finally noticed the brussel sprouts sides we never got but were charged), and let the server know. He immediately apologized and took it off the bill. So I'm not sure what happened last night at Flying Pig...missing and charged brussel sprouts, steak overcooked, missing mushrooms, mashed potatoes instead of grits, then a comped dessert promised but never delivered. WOW. I had to apologize to my friends. I was totally hyping up this place and it underdelivered. They automatically got their 20% gratuity for our party of 9 but anyone that knows me knows how much I absolutely love great service combined with exceptional food and that could have easily been a 30-35% tip had they been on their A game! We only come to Oceanside once a year. Maybe we will try again next year. Maybe not. This trip was about trying out a bunch of different restaurants and giving honest reviews on dishes/businesses we haven't tried before, or in a long time. Do better guys.
