After have visiting Ono Hawaiian BBQ two times I have decided to write a review. My first experience was back in October after their first two weeks of opening I decided to get dinner after work. They were packed and I could tell they were gonna be behind and slow. No worries this is what I assume when they first opened. The girl that helped others and before me was very nice, welcoming, and also patience with the guests before me as well. The next visit was the same as well with the customer service. I could tell a month later my second visit, the speed of getting food to the customer was faster than my first visit. Both times my meats from my plates tasted fresh and cooked perfect. Some places when I get chicken Katsu it's usually dry but Ono made it perfectly and don't forget about the sauce too! You have try the Katsu and the Teriyaki Sauce. Horrible service I order through them often. To be exact 5 time within 2 months. Every single time we receive order we get no sauces even though we specify on order. I called today 11/10/21 at 12:10 pm. Spoke with Maria and she pretty much did not care about my concern she said her computers were down. However, having eaten homemade kalua pork all my life (made by my mother or other family members at cookouts), the kalua pork here is very bland. Very little taste, not enough salt. Finally it opened! I went to the grand opening and waited 1.5 hrs just so I can get the buy one get one deal and also see some hula dancers. Food was worth it and Hawaii BBQ short ribs is one of my favorite food! L & L in riverbank is too far of a drive, the old Hawaii bbq place at the other Walmart on McHenry was hit & miss. They just lost a long time customer due to bad corporate decisions. I walked in to order, was told I could not order to go without a mask, so I go back out to my car and go through drive through. After a wait I get to the call box and see a small sticker that says "you must wear your mask when you approach the window" I tell the guy who is taking my order that I don't have a mask that's why I went through the OUTDOOR drive through, the man says over intercom that it's corporate policy that I wear a mask in my car outside when I pick up my order. I told the guy, I don't have a mask that's why I went through the drive through, so does that mean I have to wait 20 min in the drive through just to get out? He talks to his manager and says they will make an exception. 10 min later I get to the window, greeted by a young girl wearing a mask and gloves, she says "sir you need to put on your mask" I told her I don't have a mask that's why I went through the drive through. Then she points down to a sticker that says "you must wear a mask in the drive through" So I get mad, I said then why the hell do you post a sticker after someone already is in the drive through and no way out with out over a 20 min wait. She said she will let her manager know to put signs up prior to folks entering the drive through. This is just madness, they did give me my order however. I just need to point out that if this chain is so darn worried about covid, then why did the girl take my credit card in her hand into the window swipe it and hand it back. Covid lives on surfaces as well, they should have touch less card readers like the rest of America. Just checked out Ono today 10-21-19 Go the number 1 on the menu which is the BBQ chicken platter with rice and macaroni. For $2.99 more you can get a side and a drink . It all came out to about $14. So a little pricy but the food is good! Can't wait to try out the other dishes. I went in and order and waited about ten minutes which isn't that bad. This has been a long time coming, but If I could give less than 1 star I would! I wanted to give a review 2yrs ago but never did. Today was the last straw. The worst drive thru I've ever been in! I got off work right across the street so I figured I'd get something before heading home. I got in the drive thru around 11:35am with only 1 car in front of me. The car in front was at the windrow waiting for their food for over 10 minutes. Thinking it was a huge order, I watched them receive their food and it was just 1 plate. I finally get to the window at 11:52am, 17 minutes after ordering! Once I get there I pay for my food and still have to wait! I'm livid at this point, but I kept my composure. I eventually get my food and look at the time, it's 11:56am smh. That's 21 minutes in the drive thru. Absolutely ridiculous! No one should be in a drive thru for even 10 minutes for fast food unless it's packed. I normally avoid going to Ono if there's more than 1 car in the drive thru because I've experienced long waits of 10 minutes or more multiple times but 20 minutes is absurd. Almost all of the employees working there are young kids so I don't wanna give them a hard time and i appreciate them working instead of out on the streets. I don't think it's their fault, but something needs to be done asap because I'm sure I'm not the only one who avoids this place as much as possible simply because of the unnecessary long wait. read more

Updated review. Went AGAIN. This time I tried calling 10 times before I went in to order. And the line was busy the whole time and when I arrived they had 2 cars in drive through 1 person in lobby and 2 in line ready to order , including myself. They took my order , I had 2 Hawaiian bbq mix and they didn't add my short ribs ! I tried calling them 10 more times and still line busy. I was hungry and didn't want to drive all the way back for 2 short ribs .What can I do The food is GREAT. I usually call and order ahead and when I get here I only wait around 5 minutes to get my food. They always say 15 min but add another 10 to that. Today I called at 6 to place my order. I was i hold for 11 minutes. I hung up and tried calling again. The line was busy. I got in my car and started to drive there and I kept calling. I live like 10 minutes away and the line was but the whole way there. I get here and see that no one was taking any phone orders. There was no one in line so I walk right up and let her know.. I was on hold for 11 minutes and your line is still busy , is your phone not working. And she made an excuse that sometimes they get too many calls and then it doesn't let her click back to whoever is on hold so 1, I don't think that's true but whatever , 2, if it was true why even place us on hold ??? Also I waited about 40 min for my food which is normal since I couldn't call and order but , there were TWO bags of food sitting on the counter the WHOLE time ... lmao. I have gone back here a few times after the last time I was dissatisfied, but never got the bbq beef. I finally got it again with the lemon pepper chicken aloha plate and the beef was burnt again, the chicken was decent though. Another thing I have to point out is this visit and another a couple weeks from this one, I have received teriyaki sauces that were like jelly instead of liquid. Each visit I got four and every single one them were like jelly. So make sure to check your teriyaki sauces that you get from the kitchen. Floors were unswept and cluttered with patio chairs by the entrance and high chairs, floor signage and broom in the hall to get to the bathrooms. The "manager" just kept telling this customer to have a good day when she was complaining about the long wait. I've been waiting a total of 40 min when I placed my order and still haven't got it. I was told 20 min. I walked into the over "capacity" (limit of 10 people) and been here for 20 min. I asked how long till my order and wasn't told an answer just let me get these orders ready. Talk about prolong exposure in an area where the virus can be spread. I was just told my order is coming right up. Another 10 min wait and finally got my order. Horrible experience. If I could give them a 1 star for the inconvenience they just caused I would. First off, the general store manager and/owner doesn't even speak English. I speak Spanish but it's unacceptable in this day to not be bilingual at minimum when operating a fast food location. I went through the drive thru and was told I couldn't order Kalua Pork through the drive thru because it takes 15 minutes to prepare. I would take this as acceptable if I hadn't sat behind another drive thru car FOR 15 MINUTES while they waited for their chicken Katsu. You can't tell me you won't prepare my food because it takes too long but you will prepare someone else's and make me wait behind them just to be able to exit the drive thru and order my food inside!!!!! Completely unacceptable and after the nonchalant attitudes I received from the employees and the management I will NEVER come back to this location again. The only reason why I prefer ONO over L&L, is their spam musubi comes with 2 pieces in 1 order, whereas at L&L, it's 1 per order.
