I'd never claim to be a expert on Hawaiian food, but I've been lucky enough to have a friend (he's Hawaiian) who's a chef on the big island, who has brought me to his favorite spots, and spoil me with his knowledge of Hawaiian food. I wanted something different but never did I expect to be wowed with this food in Minnesota... so many miles removed. I had the Loco Moco with hamburger steak. Came heaped with a beautiful serving of rice, macaroni salad, gravy and two eggs sunny side up (perfectly cooked) every single thing on the plate was as amazing as the next. The macaroni was salad was a point of conversation between us, but so was everything. My co-diner had the Chicken Katsu and garlic shrimp served with 2 scoops of rice, macaroni salad, and a katsu sauce. Once again... a slam dunk. Every single thing! We shared an order of spam to keep it OG, and by far the best spam I had ever touched to my lips. Who would have thunk it could have been leveled up so simply. This meal by far was one of the most amazing and pleasant surprises I could have ever expected, and can't wait to go back for more. Service style is very causal...order at the counter, get a number and they bring the food to you. Uncomplicated, and direct. Very friendly service and very dog friendly on the patio. NOMd: kalua pork + teriyaki chicken + chicken katsu +spam musubi whenever I'm at the FRGMNT i always get the spam masubi and i LOVE it. but the real OG here is the kalua pork. that shit hits in every direction. so many places serve dry and unseasoned pulled pork or it has bbq sauce (which i'm not a fan of) and it's just not it, but ono knows. their teriyaki chicken is good and their chicken katsu is decent (other location is more fresh). very large portions of meat and it comes with rice and mac slaw. i don't like noodle salad, but i'm coming around to this one - its really good with some of the pork mixed in. service, etc.: the only reason why I gave this location 4 stars is because I think the other location is just a little better. This was my second time trying this place and it is absolutely amazing! I have been to Oahu once and this is so spot on to being on the island! It is paid street parking but you can either download the app or there are pay stations. This place is located inside a dining hall with 3 other restaurants. In the center there is a bar. There are board/card games that you can grab if you want! There are also stations with water/glasses/silverware/napkins etc... there is also an outdoor patio that is gorgeous! We really wanted to try Ono, but will be coming back soon to try some of the other options. You can pick your table, order, and pay through your phone -- very easy, intuitive, and convenient. You can also order directly from the restaurant if you prefer. We were craving Hawaiian food and it did not disappoint. started with Spam Musubi. Very fresh, well seasoned, and warm. Perfect to start your meal. Portions are HUGE and very well priced for the location! We decided to share a Kalua Pork and Katsu Chicken Combo, and Spam Fried Rice, and it was almost too much. Katsu was nice and crispy and the pork was super tender and well seasoned. I'd highly recommend you get the Teriyaki BBQ sauce to dip the Katsu in. The sticky rice was perfect to balance out textures and flavors. The Spam Fried Rice is as simple and delicious as it sounds. Well seasoned with a healthy dose of sesame oil. Because this is a food court style hall, it can be a little louder than a typical restaurant, but the place is very spacious and there is plenty of seating to accommodate small and large groups. We were so excited to see a Hawaiian spot within Minneapolis, that we failed to realize it was within the North Loop Galley. We found a food hall similar to this in Southern Florida, and were thrilled to see the style made its way north. You can choose to order from your table via QR code from any of the available choices within the food hall (including the bar), or you can walk up and order. Be aware - this is an open floor plan, so it can get noisy quickly. It was only about half full when we visited and we struggled to hear one another across the table. We tried, and split, a few different options. We were pleasantly surprised by the portions considering the pricing for the location. The Katsu was crunchy and juicy. The Kalua Pork was tender but a bit salty for my taste. The Spam Musubi was warm and the saltiness of the Spam paired well with the minimal salt in the rice. The Fried Rice was savory but could have used more flavor - I would recommend adding a sauce to your order to adjust the flavoring to fit your palate. We tried the spicy sauce (like a ketchup/sriracha combo) and the teriyaki barbecue. We favored the teriyaki barbecue. The Hawaiian Sun was light and refreshing. read more

Located in a food hall this place has very good Hawaiian food. I ordered the chicken Katsu and Kalua pork plate and substituted garlic noodles for less than $20 total. I got a mountain of food that could feed 2 people easily. I would recommend the chicken Katsu, super juicy, very crispy panko crust with a garlic flavor and goes great with the dipping sauce. Buy extra sauce as you will need at least 2 and they have multiple flavors. The Kalua pork is a little salty and doesn't have much flavor, not too different from regular pulled pork but my partner liked it. The garlic noodles were a little salty but went well with the creamy Mac salad. Pro tip they do charge a credit card fee of 3% so bring cash if you have it. You order at the vendor and they will give you a number and will bring the food out later. Its somewhat a self service place. They have water bottles, cups, and plates in little carts throughout the dining area for you to get. After you're done, they have people come and clean your table. There are tables inside and also on the patio for nice summer days. Street metered parking since it is downtown. Food comes within 10-15 minutes so it's pretty fast. I think it's Taylor's towards work people for quick and fast lunch break maybe? While waiting for food I ordered a peach cocktail at the bar. It's a bar but they don't have every cocktail or ingredients to make everything you want. But it's not bad. Loco moco chicken katsu- I usually get just the plain chi ne katsu combo but go the loco moco version this time. The difference is, it comes with the sauce and fried eggs on top. Regular order is just chicken Katsu, macaroni salad and rice. Chicken is crispy and tender. Macaroni is good. We had to tell them how good the kalbi and shrimp plate was. The kbbq tasted like ones you'd eat in California. Great job on the flavor!! The poke bowl was great too. Really liked all the ingredients in it. I liked the spicy tuna and regular tuna option. The spicy tuna is spicy folks so if you can't handle the heat then get it without spicy tuna. Lol! However when it comes to traditional Hawaiian plate meals, Ono is welcome Island oasis in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Hawaiian BBQ is my new West Coast go-to anytime I find myself in California. I was excited to see Ono amongst the food stalls at The Galley. I had the Katsu & Kalbi combo: here's the breakdown. Chicken Katsu: A generous portion of crispy fried chicken cut into manageable strips. It comes with a ketchup-like Katsu sauce that I really enjoyed. I usually don't like ketchup, it's too sweet. This sauce however was really zesty. Kalbi: I had recently had some pretty mediocre Kalbi recently in Florida. This restored my faith. The KBBQ-adjacent style short ribs were so flavorful from the grill that the flavors rubbed off onto the bed of white rice it was served on. Mac Salad: Very creamy, a perfect complement.
