I wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to the maintenance team here at Onyx! Tim and Eric are always so friendly, helpful and accommodating. I recently had an after hours issue on a weekend (not technically classified as a maintenance emergency), but nonetheless, BOTH Tim and Eric arrived close to 9PM on a Saturday night after I expressed my concern to security. Our porters work hard to keep our building clean and looking it's best and Tim and Eric keep everything running smoothly. Anthony at the front desk security deserves a shout out, too. I have lived here for almost six years, and in my opinion, this team is the best maintenance staff we have had since my move in. First off just want to let you know this is NOT the old Onyx. They've replaced their property management & let me tell you, I am SOOO happy they did. I've been here for about a year now and I can already see the difference from when they came in and took over like 2 months ago. It's literally like night and day. The new property management staff like Eunice, Hannah, Abigail, & Ashley care a F&#K ton. Whenever issues arise, they take care of it right away. Have amazing attitudes and also make you feel cared for. For example, they've already made it easier to get in and out of our secure double gated on site parking garage by giving us access to an app to open remotely. We had to use a RFID option (still available) that was a real hassel, since if we had guests we would have to go down the elevator to the garage to let them in. We can now also get parking for our guests easily through the app. Also would like to give a special shout out to the staff member Beto (Alberto) who keeps the place so clean and always works with such an amazing attitude. It's a joy to see him everyday. I just rewewed my lease after almost considering leaving. But because of Eunice and her team of A grade players, we decided to stay and excited to continue being a part of the Onyx community. Thank you again all and to more amazing things at Onyx. Post 1 month a half review of moving into the Onyx apartment. My husband and I were given a thorough tour by Eunice early April and just fell in love with the area, people and amenities. I'm very grateful for the Onyx team, they have all been soo hospitable! S/O to Hannah for helping us to make the move in process smooth as well and to the maintence team! I have had no issues getting my questions answered and making maintence request! The lockers for online orders is also a life saver, I don't have to ever worry about my packages getting stolen! I was waiting to write my review until I had some time living here at Onyx. I moved in June of this year and can say this has been the best living experience of any apartment community I have ever lived at. Eunice was the person who I had my tour with and she was so kind and knowledgeable through the whole process. I mean she called me and emailed me almost daily to make sure everything with my application and move was going correctly. I had looked at 10 different apartments in the area (I'm very particular) and Onyx was the best one. My move in day was smooth and I had one minor issue with my AC but the maintenance person Erick fixed it quickly. This place has a sense of actual community, I don't feel like just a check to them. Anytime I have a question or need any help I am always greeted with a smile. Hannah in the office is always so helpful as well. Do yourself a favor and look into Onyx. As soon as you walk in you will feel the difference from all the other places. read more

I was charged twice for parking, and after two months of repeated emails and in-person visits, I went to the leasing office at Onyx to get it resolved. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune of dealing with Hannah, who was shockingly rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Instead of constructively addressing my concern, she refused to listen, spoke to us with sheer arrogance, and even asked us to leave the office without even acknowledging our concerns. I have lived at Onyx for a couple of years and had no issues with the other leasing staff, but my interaction with Hannah was unacceptable and has made me seriously reconsider continuing to live here. No resident should have to deal with such blatant disrespect when simply trying to resolve a legitimate issue where the building owes the resident money and defaults on applying the credit. Frankly, someone with Hannah's attitude who lacks basic courtesy has no business working in a leasing office or any customer-facing role. If this is the kind of service Sares Regis as a managements allows from its leasing agents, I would not recommend living in any of the buildings they operate. read more

Spoke with agent to ask if rent price was correct only, as it is showing $1095 and she said it's 1900 actually. I said are you on your website? She said no, I'm looking at my price sheet. I said okay well it's showing incorrect online to apply. Her response was "ok". I mean I couldn't believe how ghetto that was. I would've responded saying "wow, thank you so much for pointing that out we will go ahead and fix that now". I attached a photo for reference. If you're into good vibes. I took a tour here earlier this month and came back a few weeks ago, and I was absolutely impressed with not only the community, but the staff and my experiences with the residents I came across as well. I love how centralized this community is to virtually everything that excites me about DTLA; I'm frequently at LA Live, either at the Crypto Arena seeing the Kings, or the restaurants that are in the area, (it is decorated so extravagantly during the holiday,) and go to the Convention Center for lots of events as well. The Onyx has GREAT amenities, starting with the 24-hour gym, a rooftop on the 7th floor overlooking the city with a fireplace, the pool/jacuzzi are both heated and salt-water (that is so much healthier instead of chlorine, so this was a BIG plus for me!,) AND they even have a dog wash area in the parking garage, already equipped with the products you need to wash your dog! I really appreciate the parcel lockers as well that aid in easier package retrieval and knowing they have security on the property makes me feel very safe and at ease also. The Leasing Agent, Ron, was not only extremely friendly and inviting, he kept me thoroughly entertained during the tour, was very informative, and made sure that I was able to take my time during the tour, as I've often felt rushed by Leasing Agents while viewing apartments, which I absolutely loved. I remember while in the elevator, we came across a few residents who were very excited to see him and he seemed as excited to talk with them, and introduced us all as well! I will most definitely be submitting my application once the busyness of the New Year has subsided and cannot wait to be a resident here at Onyx DTLA! read more

Update: So management did, in fact, get in touch and confirm that we left our apartment clean and in good repair. Was waiting for the security deposit to reach me at my new apartment before updating. I wish it hadn't shaken out like that -- moving is stressful enough -- but credit where credit is due. Still docking stars for the cutbacks in security, difficulty retrieving packages and general demeanor of office staff, especially at this price point. read more

Where to begin... This is supposed to be a "luxury complex" but the experience is anything but. I've been a tenant for over a year after moving across the county. If I were in a position to move this year, I would absolutely move to another building downtown. There have been so many issues at this property since the new management/ownership change last year. Among others, the main issues have been (a) severely cutting back security at the building despite still falsely advertising 24-hour security @ onyxdtla.com; (b) constant water issues; (c) rude and aggressive staff specifically the leasing agent Ron McCloud; and (d) ridiculous, non-tenant-friendly utility billing. This isn't even an exhaustive list, just what the character count on Yelp allows...I have corroborated all of these issues with other tenants, many of them experiencing the exact same things. Let's break it down. a.) Security - One of the reasons I chose this complex was the 24-hour on-site security. This is very important living anywhere in downtown LA. Since Sares Regis took over this property, there have been substantial cuts to security. Now, there is only overnight security on select nights with NO ONE at the desk during the day and never anyone between 6p-9p. Obviously security is needed, but this staff also handles packages for the complex. So you're SOL if you need an urgent package when there's no one around. I have multiple medications shipped through the mail. I have extremely time sensitive packages which I have not been able to access due to this change in policy. Delivery drivers will just drop packages at the unattended desk and I have had four (4) packages go missing since this security change. Completely unacceptable. Again, Onyx is still falsely advertising 24-hour security on their website which IS NOT TRUE! It is left to tenants to let in guests, delivery drivers, etc. which is completely unsafe. This service should never have been taken away from the guests who minimum $2k/mo to live here. b.) Water- The water has been a consistent issue with the worst being in September 2023. Water was out two separate instances-- once for 24 hours and once for two full days. Water service had unexpectedly stopped several times throughout the last year. Management response to another reviewer's says the September water issues were "unforeseen", but again, this has been a persistent issue for over a year. I saw it coming, why didn't you? Management did nothing to ease this issues--no water bill reduction, no water provided tenants while it was out, nothing. Simply a "we couldn't see it coming" which is patently false. Also, the email correspondence about this issue framed it as "an inconvenience" despite this being a huge health and safety concern. Imagine not being able to flush your toilet for two days... Absolutely unacceptable and there was no concession made to tenants to ease this issue. c.) Staff- Ron McCloud could not be more of a nuisance on this property. He is rude, often not at the desk during work hours, and has now physically and verbally threatened me. I sent multiple emails to Ron and other staff over the course of two weeks attempting to (begrudgingly) sign my lease for another year. I received ZERO response from him nor the management team until the DAY MY LEASE WAS SET TO EXPIRE at which point, Ron sent me a very rude and blaming email making excuses for his lack of response. I calmly yet sternly confronted him directly in his office about his rude email and he exploded, coming from behind his desk to get into my face screaming, interrupting, telling me to move if I don't live it here, and threatening me with eviction. I was beside myself at this completely unprofessional and savage behavior. I have never been treated this way in my life, let alone from someone who collects a $3k/mo check from me. This has not been my experience with all staff at the property, but Ron McCloud has physically and verbally threatened me. I am exploring the options I have to deal with his threats. I don't know why he's still employed here. d.) Utilities- After the new management company took over in the winter/spring of 2023, they had an issues being able to post utility bills for tenants to pay. So for six months, no one was charge a utility bill. When they finally rectified this on the 15th of August 2023, they charge two months back utility bills mid-August claiming that this was "August's bill needing to be settled immediately" despite having already paid for August. Two weeks later, another two months plus current were posted on the 1st of September 2023, with the final two months bill and current posted 1st of October 2023. You do the math. That is EIGHT MONTHS utility bills (easily over $1k) posted to our account in a matter of six weeks. This is the least tenant-friendly policy possible and the staff here doesn't seem to understand why this is an issue. If you're paying downtown LA rent prices, look elsewhere. Onyx isn't it. read more

It started with the cutting of concierges and security's hours, the monthly community events, continued with the lack of communication from new management, an elevator that was making so much noise that i was scared for my life to get on it and has not been fixed, to plumbing issues that will cause dirty water, and now we cant even get hot water. I have been taking cold showers for days. If I wanted all of this I would get a more reasonably priced apartment in south central because this is turning in to a run down apartment building fast. read more

Don't move in here. The recently switched management companies and the new mgmt doesn't seem to care. They just took away our front desk security. So now food deliveries have a hard time getting to the rooms. Packages are impossible to get unless you happen to catch a random tour. With how bad the crime has gotten in the area, having a security person at the front desk was NECESSARY. Now we have to rely on letting random people in ourselves. Typical big corps cutting costs while still raising rents while giving the LEAST. Can't wait till my lease is up. I'm out. read more
