Extremely disappointing experience, $2,000 spent for unacceptable service We came to Onyx Room in San Diego to celebrate a birthday with 20 friends and had a bottle service table reserved. We spent approximately $2,000, expecting a great experience, but the service was extremely disappointing. After our first set of bottles was delivered, our waitress barely checked on us. We were left without cups, chasers, or anyone attending to our table. About 1.5 hours later, the next set of bottles was finally brought out -- again, with no cups or chasers. We repeatedly had to chase down staff just to get the basic necessities for our table. The situation became so frustrating that my girlfriend and I eventually had to go into the private staff area to address the issue directly. The promoter eventually offered us two bottles of champagne to make up for the inconvenience, but by then there were only about 40 minutes left before closing, making the gesture far too late to meaningfully fix the experience. What made it even more frustrating was the automatic 20% gratuity added to our approximately $2,000 bill, despite the fact that we received very little table service and spent much of the night trying to get staff's attention. We understand that nightclubs get busy, but when you're spending this much money on bottle service, you should not have to repeatedly ask for cups, chasers, or basic service. If you're considering Onyx Room for a special occasion or planning to spend significant money on bottle service, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere in San Diego. I hope management reviews what happened and considers a meaningful partial refund or discount on what we spent, because two bottles of champagne with 40 minutes remaining did not adequately compensate for the experience. read more

This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had at a nightclub. First, the woman collecting the cover charge at the entrance was extremely rude. There were only two of us, yet she asked how many people were in our group while sitting in her chair. When I answered, she made an insulting comment that left us feeling unwelcome from the moment we arrived. Next, we went downstairs because the Latin music and dance floor were much better. However, many patrons were wearing extremely revealing outfits, which made us uncomfortable. While I understand every venue has its own atmosphere and dress standards, it wasn't what we expected, and staff didn't seem concerned about maintaining an environment that appealed to a wider range of guests. The biggest issue was the temperature inside the club. It was unbearably hot, with people sweating throughout the venue, and it didn't seem like the air conditioning was working. It also felt extremely crowded, making the experience even more uncomfortable. Overall, the customer service, overcrowding, and overall atmosphere made this a disappointing visit. I had a really bad experience with this bartender. We waited in line for a long time, and while we were waiting, the bartender accidentally sprayed alcohol all over my face and into my eyes. I understand that accidents happen, but when we told him what happened, instead of apologizing, he became defensive and was very rude about It. After that, he continued to ignore us and started taking other people's orders, even though we had been waiting there first. We eventually got our drinks, but the entire experience was extremely unpleasant. The way he handled the situation and treated us afterward was very disappointing and unnecessary. Hello, I go to Onyx pretty often, that is my friends and I go-to spot for night outs. It is usually a good time, but last night was so out of line... I (25F) got kicked out by security for pushing one of the security guards. I was walking over to one of the rooms downstairs when I just felt a huge body shove from a man, my I guess natural and protective response was then to shove them back. The I then get grabbed by my arm with force VERY AGGRESSIVELY by a man yelling at me saying I am done, I'm out, etc. I have to hold on to a wall to get myself not to get dragged by this man. My friends come in to help sooth the situation, but no matter what they say the security guard is yelling at them, at me, and continues to pull on me along with other security staff. I did not know that man who had pushed me was security and once I realized it was, I immediately apologized by saying OMG I didn't know you were security, I just thought it was a random guy pushing people! Keep in mind, I am a 4'11'' woman, in heels, a little tipsy, so when I got shoved over (for whatever reason) it made me lose all of my balance and I believe there was absolutely no need for all of that aggression. Anything my friends said or I said did not matter. They wanted me out. Once I was outside this security guard just kept talking down to me and laughing at me. It was the most disrespectful thing I've experienced here. I recently lost my phone there over the weekend, and after not knowing what to do I went online and saw there was a lost and found department with contact info. I copied the email, and wrote the department head and within minutes Juan Rangel contacted me back! He was super attentive and even though he was on vacation he took time to tell me my phone was found, set up a time for me to pick it up and made sure the guys at the club didn't make me stand outside too long for my phone! WATCHED EMPLOYEE STEAL PHONE OUT OF FRIENDS COAT POCKET. WHEN I APPROACHED THE EMPLOYEE I WAS CONFRONTED. My friend whom I shared my Apple location with, immediately gave me her phone to track. I was able to was able to pin point location. Thus I showed the phone to the host, she immediately accused me of lying. When I showed it her the exact location, she Immediately became shifty and began stuttering. Then called Management. Management laughed in my face and told me to "find" it then. Immediately threatened to "86" me. I agreed to stand out of the club as I called the police. SECURITY PROCEEDED TO INTIMIDATE ME TO LEAVE. Dear Onyx San Diego Management, I am writing to share my recent experience at your venue, which unfortunately left me very disappointed. I was enjoying my night at Onyx until I realized my phone was missing--likely stolen. I asked a staff member if he had seen it, and he was kind enough to help me look, but we couldn't find it. When I stepped outside briefly and went to return inside, I explained the situation to the security guard at the front door. Instead of showing any understanding, he simply repeated "no re-entry" and refused to let me back inside. I understand the no re-entry policy in general, but given the circumstances--having just lost my phone inside your establishment--I feel the guard's response was unnecessarily dismissive and inconsiderate. A more empathetic approach would have made a big difference, especially since losing a phone is already stressful enough. I hope management takes this into account and emphasizes customer care and situational judgment with your security staff. read more

My friends and I went on a Friday night and arrived right at 10pm, there was a line but it moved very quickly. We spoke with Mundaca about potentially buying a table and he was very helpful and informative of the table minimums and what he recommended. He asked if we were celebrating anything and we said it was our friends birthday, he then surprised her with a pink birthday sash and a marquee sign!! How nice, overall it was a great experience with all the staff and we stayed till the lights came on. The DJ was great and played a mix of Hip hop & RNB on the main floor. Decided to do bottle service last minute at this place. Not going to lie this place gets poppin! Definitely worth doing bottle service if youre in a group rather than standing in line for so long and the line gets really long at this place. Big shout out to Munzada the VIP coordinator for hooking us up and getting us a table we really liked. We checked in, passed the long line, and got seated at our table next to the DJ. Bottles are moderately priced. Our servers were amazing and really accommodating. Place is filled with younger crowd and the ratio is good. Music is good and SUPER LOUD so make sure your ears are prepared lol....What really sucks is the fact that the DJ transitions through each song tooooo dam fast. It got really irritating because there would be songs that play that gets you hyped up to dance and then seconds later it turns over to another song. Overall, I highly recommend this club! Onyx is the place that I've been looking for. It shouldn't be this hard to find a place that has good music to dance to. I'm not an EDM girl so I had been searching for a place with a good mixup of hip hop and other nostalgic songs. This is imperative for me because I'm a sober sister and I can't get so drunk that I forget the mediocre music and have fun (lots of clubs in Gaslamp are lame like that). I've heard that Onyx has had incidences of stealing so be warned that you shouldn't bring anything valuable. But I've never had as much fun during a night out as I have at Onyx! A great standard issue nightclub. Nearly perfect mix of hip hop and top 40s upstairs for those seeking it. Drinks are a little pricy, but where aren't they? The outdoor space in front is great for taking breaks to air out and cool off. Bartender Antonio is the man! Always on it, super polite and entertaining. Only thing is, they BLAST the music every night and I lose hearing every single time I come lol. Maybe lower it a couple of notches yall! Line to enter gets long fast, but after like 11pm the line wait is usually 15-20 minutes in my experience, cause it gets so hot that the 10pm crowd starts to leave. I've met lots of cool people here! They only play Bad Bunny for the floor downstairs that's for Latin music. It sucks because I was hoping to hear Rauw Alejandro & Cris Mj who are also very popular in the reggaeton world. On a different note, they do have ADA access to use the elevator to go downstairs but when I asked to use it again as I was leaving they thought I was too drunk to not use the stairs so they didn't really understand my situation with a slight buzz I had to explain myself and not sound drunk which is really hard when you're literally intoxicated. The professional nature of stealing from a closed purse should 100% deter anyone from coming to this location, as it seems to be a target.
