I wanted to like this place so much- and there were really good things about it. Bartenders were great. They don't have vodka-staying true to the prohibition era, or something like that. But the bartender made me a delicious drink for me! We waited outside for about 20 minutes to get in then were surprised at the bottom of the stairs by a gal collecting a cover charge. Shortly after we got in the musician ended her set -we heard half a song. She was good and I would have liked to hear more. For the next hour we watched band members "mozie" in and start setting up. After an hour we had to be somewhere else so we left without enjoying any music. We asked for our cover back, got lip from the gal collecting money and she told us to talk with the manager. The manager was very sweet and happily gave us our money back and apologized for the long delay between musicians. It was just a bummer to have to go through all of that. It's not worth the hype. A better bet would be to go to the Havana restaurant/bar next to it and just enjoy! Totally overrated -not worth it

This is my first experience of the San Diego nightlife and I was extremely impressed! Stumbled upon this speakeasy/underground lounge in the Gaslamp Quarters. Great musicians. Cool, innovative cocktail menu. Mixed crowd. Mood lighting. I can see this being okay for date night as a lot of couples were present when I visited. Only setbacks were the lack of network availability and no Wifi. Also limited seating but a lot of standing room near the band set-up.

It's a Saturday night and nestled between The Field and Havana 1920 is a door that reads "Law Office" with a decent line coming out of it (so much for hidden speakeasy). Allegedly, this place is a chic and immersive 1920s establishment with an encouraged dress code... all I'll say is the bouncer in the Hawaiian shirt told me everything I needed to know. Show up in anything but jeans and you'll stick out like a sore thumb in the sea of casual attire. And, yes, it was a sea. It's a very small, intimate place which means it can fill up pretty quickly, and it does! Be prepared for crowds, be prepared for heat and stuffiness, and last, but certainly not least, be prepared for the cash only $10 cover charge. The glow of an ATM at the bottom of the stairs will be sure to guide you if you forget that last part. The band that was scheduled to perform was a no-show, which meant that there was no live music until about 11 PM. Pretty disappointing considering live music is one of the big draws of this place. The back-up band played covers of hits old and new, tragically not very jazzy or blues-y, and took a break after about 30 minutes leaving us back right where we started. There's one redeeming quality about this place, the drinks are pretty tasty. There's a wide selection of interesting and unique cocktails and for a whopping $18 you can try one for yourself! I sipped on the Oren Ishii, a purple, lemon-y, Ube flavored drink that gave me a good buzz and wasn't too harsh on the tastebuds. I wanted to like this place so bad, in theory it's a great concept! But the vibe was off... and no amount of ornamental ceiling tiles or red light could soothe my soul. Disappointing :(

Wow, what a fine! Actually, I can't say I found it because I was brought here the first time, but I was able to find it again the next night, which made me look like a superstar. This is a fantastic speakeasy style cocktail bar with a super creative and extremely large menu, wonderfully personable bartenders, who, despite the very loud noise in the bar space can communicate somewhat effectively with customers across the bar and they're super knowledgeable about the menu and are able to guide you to a great choice. I really liked the record shaped menu and how it was organized by Bass spirit. By simply letting them know which spirit I prefer, they were able to guide me towards the section of the menu because admittedly it is a bit dark in the space and from there, I was able to ask certain questions about each cocktail which led me to find some excellent choices. The first night I went with an old-fashioned, but I called a PD scotch instead of the typical bourbon or rye that is used in it and it was a fantastic drink. The next night we had hoped to experiment with the Casazza side of the menu, but apparently they were out of that spirit and instead we're substituting a super cool earthy, mushroom infused rum, which I happen to have it at home, so I was excited to see it in the cocktails and voided it shine. The second night was a bit more low-key and less people so we were able to sit and enjoy the music and they had a great trio crooning to the crowd. The dim lighting wall cool is still a little bit difficult because it makes reading the menu hard and then the low ceilings and speakeasy vibe is also cool but again makes speaking and hearing a bit difficult when the bar is crowded so those are my only pieces of feedback to share. Otherwise a great space great staff great drinks and a great spot you should visit.

Great music every night! The Jazz Jam is fantastic! The musicians that play here have so much talent. Dancing. Singing. Great drinks.

Stopped by for a cocktail during my trip to SD. I went on a Thursday night and they didn't have a wait so it was great! it wasnt too full so we found a nice seat to enjoy the band playing I got the Rosemary's Second Cousin and the Newark Sour. Drinks seemed a little pricey for the selection/quality but Im assuming youre also paying for the speakeasy experience :)

Definitely gave that underground, hiding that we are drinking prohibition vibe. It's cute, live music every night. No vodka drinks are served to be authentic to the era. Bar tenders were great. There is even a fun option to pay a flat fee and have your drink be bartenders choice based on your taste preferences. Personally I would prefer to be able to sit at a table or at least a way to be able to hang out and chat with those around be rather than sit in a row watching the music

What a cool place! Stopped here for after a work meeting and was rewarded with great food, music and atmosphere! Next to the Field, it's an unassuming door that leads to a descending stairway and a really cool underground space! Enjoyed a great cocktail and unexpected band playing fantastic music! Best part of this trip actually

Such a cool spot! Hidden behind a "closed lawyer's office" door, you'll find a traditional speakeasy complete with original musty scent, live music, and classic cocktails. The bartenders were super nice and the vibe was fun. At the risk of sounding old, the live music was super loud for such a small space. But if you want good tunes and a little space to dance, this is the hideaway for you!

    Ask the Community - Prohibition

    Do you take reservations?

We do not take reservations, but we look forward to your visit!

    Is there an entrance fee?

Yeah the guy that was standing at the entrance asked for a $20 cover charge per person, cash only.

Will you guys be showing the Wilder fight tonight?

Is it mixed ages or mostly people in their 20s?

Went on a Wednesday night, crowd was mixed

    Is there a Cover charge?

Yes, There was a 10$ cover charge when I went but I hear if you show up around 8-830 (basically before the crowds show) there isn't a cover charge but I can't confirm this to be 100% true.

Is there a cover charge on Fridays?

Yes. Also dress code. Wasn't impressed

What's the dress code on Tuesdays, when there is a live Cuban Jazz band playing? I know it said casual on the website for weekdays, but was not sure whether that just meant not having to dress 1920's style.

I guess super casual: any simple dress, jeans and a nice top, flats shoes....man can't wear hats or caps. Enjoy.

    Is it 18+?

    21+

Is there a dress code to get in?

The bouncer said that it's cocktail attire on the weekends but the website says "No athletic gear or ball caps. Gentleman, we ask that you keep the flip-flops, T-shirts, graphic T-s & shorts at home. Ladies, please swap the yoga pants, sweatshirts…

What time should I arrive on a Friday night to get a seat in the main room for a party of 3?

To ensure you and your group are able to get in with minimal wait, we suggest trying to come in no later than 9:00pm. Our hours of operation are 8pm to 2am, Wednesday through Saturday night. Coming in early (8-9pm) will give you the opportunity to…

How is this place on a Tuesday or Wednesday night ? First time going to San Diego and looking for a good vibe bar

Not open on Tuesday but Wednesday is the best night. No cover, not too crowded and a jam session featuring many talented blues, soul and rb musicians.

    Who is playing tonight?

    Lady and the diamonds

The funniest part was actually finding the place. We kept looking at the Yelp photos of the exterior, and the logo made us think the restaurant was in a large standalone building. On our second pass, FSD actually pulled us right in front of the entrance--even in a red zone for a brief moment--just so we could finally see the Starlite sign. My husband and I just finished our dinner at Teleferic Barcelona when I suggested we give Raised by Wolves another try - as we had about an hour before picking up the kids. For a Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised that as walk-ups we only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated at the bar inside. While we waited, we enjoyed perusing their bottle selections for purchase and I'm happy to say that playing music slightly louder in the waiting/market area helped dull the sounds from the inside bar. It helps create more of a 'moment' when you sit at the fireplace and slowly turn inside. This time we were seated right at the bar, which was perfect for us. Chuck was our bartender and 10/10 on the cocktails he made. This time, I went with their Tiki Room and my husband an off-menu Boulevardier (which I have to say I'm impressed he knew what that was because even I didn't, lol). Both drinks were perfectly crafted and enjoyed by both of us. The staff were all welcoming and knowledgable, other guests were dressed well, and the ambiance lent itself to the vibe we were looking for. After doing some homework, I made the connection that Raised By Wolves was part of the hospitality group that also owns Lafayette Hotel, The Baby Grand, Ironside, etc...all locations my husband and I absolutely adore. That being said, this place was so impressive, driving by multiple times and looking at it while looking for a parking space. I will tell you about the $80 ticket...later. When we walked in on a Thursday with a reservation, it was comfortably full like a Friday. I always say "an early reservation beats the rush," and it paid off because when we left, it became "nightclub" full of locals. The decor, later found out to be a themed restaurant, was so impressive with lights, foliage, and flowing water that I felt like a kid in Toys R' Us (R.I.P.). Our wait for being on time was less than my 15-minute patients, and we were seated in our requested "anywhere but near the kitchen" seating. Our waiter was very cordial and did not ask HAYD or CIHWA every 25 minutes, nor did he ignore us. We were left alone to eat. I know this because I saw him "eye-check our progress a couple of times." That's the sign of a good waiter/tress. Our special drinks were on point, and the large-portion dishes were a 4.5 by themselves. As a high-quality home chef and a military chow line platter, I was impressed with the presentation, so I had to ensure my camera skills paid homage. I suggest finding a place to park and walking to the restaurant if you drove, because the alleyway to the right of the entrance is patrolled. :0) Can't wait to return and try something new and see what the theme is. I suggest making a reservation because you won't get a table by walking in and "enjoying the experience of eating" there.

Not only was he and the other bartender were making damn good drinks, they would legit talk to you. The ambiance of the place is cool too. Felt like I was going inside some continental room like John Wick. Definitely my vibe and definitely coming back. But if you ever get Garrick as your bartender, you're in for a treat!

I was staying at this hotel on a Friday and the rooftop was my last stop…read more I was surprised that there were still tables open and a couple seats at the bar on a late Friday night around 9PM. It was a good mix of people dressed from casual to dressed up in business attire. I ask the bartender if she can make me on those margaritas they had when Guy Fieri was promoting the Santo Tequila and she said yes we still have some of that left. So she made me a margarita and it was really good. The tequila goes very well with cocktails. I then realize it was bartender that was in the video with him. She was very nice and the price was very reasonable for a rooftop bar. Couple funny things I met a couple guys from Boston as well who sat right next to me. We were kinda shocked that they had the heaters on as it wasn't that cold. At least for us lol. Again for a Friday I was shocked it was not packed. I was told during the games it is standing room only. I will definitely be back 100 percent!!

Really glad about this newer rooftop spot. The views were so lovely & the array of seating options…read moreis great, too. We all loved our cocktails that we got-- especially the spicy margarita! Started with the Mango Shrimp Ceviche and it was 10/10. Fresh shrimp, good flavor and balance of sweetness & citrus... but what stood out the most was their delicious fried tortillas that came with it... never had such a satisfying crunch from a tortilla! The spicy chicken sandwich was one of the best we've had in San Diego. DEFINITELY coming back for it. The tacos were mid, though. Not much flavor and the carne asada tacos didn't have much to them, meat was a bit dry and could've used more toppings or sauce of some sort. One of our blackened fish tacos came extremely close to completely raw and we sent it back. They didn't apologize or anything but just brought one fresh one that was cooked. That's the only reason for my four star rating. Our waiters were extremely nice though, I do think they are still figuring things out as we sat for twenty minutes waiting for a server because they didn't know whose table it was. It wasn't busy at all at that time. Overall, absolutely coming back for the drinks, views, and that DELISHHH chicken sandwich!!
