this place has excellent sushi the parking lot is a bit small, but the food is worth it. 5 stars.

The atmosphere was great, and the food was fantastic, but I am giving it only 2 stars because the service was questionable. I have worked in food service and would never do what our server did. The server, who's name I will leave out, came to our table to check up on my friend and I, and then returned to drop off the check. When she did, she took our plates, but in the process took plates that we had not finished, and while I was STILL eating off of my plate, she took it right out from under me and just smiled the whole time! I was in a state of shock when this was happening, and it's not like it was closing time, it was only 2:30 in the afternoon! I will return, but if it happens again I will bring my business else where. read more

We went here for a casual dinner. We are from Japan and we feel that this Japanese restaurant is average at best. The menu was rather limited for us, nothing special and quite typical of average Japanese restaurants in United States. We had a sushi roll dinner and yakitori dinner, since we did not find anything much that interested us. Sushi was OK, but yakitori was not good. Yakitori is supposed to be cooked over a grill, basted with a teriyaki-style graze, but it tasted like they just skewered chicken meats and vegetables cooked separately in advance, applied burner flame, and poured a glaze later. Also, no authentic Japanese restaurant would serve a "hibachi"-style food, which is an American invention. read more

I absolutely love this place!! I went on Thursday to celebrate valentines day and it was as good the second time as the first. We started off with the shrimp dumplings which I really enjoyed. The hibachi was delicious we opted to get the shrimp, scallops and lobster entrée for two and all were good. Service was on point and we also were able to get some sake. I went here last night with my boyfriend to try their Hibachi. The restaurant was separated into two parts sushi and hibachi. Both sides of the restaurant were decorated very nicely. We ordered the chicken, steak, and shrimp combination for two and it was humongous! They gave each person a full chicken breast, a strip steak and probably 10 shrimp. This was not including the miso soup, salad, bowl of rice, vegetables, and noodles that come with all the hibachi meals. I think we're probably going to get two more meals out of those left overs. Also, it's a BYOB so that's always a plus. The only thing I was disappointed about was they didn't throw any shrimp or zucchini at us like they usually do at the Hibachi restaurants. It was my boyfriend's first time at one of these restaurants and I think he was excited to catch some food in his mouth. Other than that, the food was delicious and we had a nice time. I would definitely return with a big party because I think it would be a fun place with a bigger group. read more

I'm only snobby about 2 types of food living in LA, Korean and sushi. I take my sushi seriously in CA. For a sushi restaurant in willow grove, I'll admit I wasn't expecting a ton. But I was pleasantly surprised. This place is very solid, I would say comparable to any mid tier LA place but a lot more reasonable priced. Sushi deluxe for $21 including 9 nigiri, a California roll, salad and miso soup is solid. Also tried Gyoza and udon, both on point as well. Plus service is very attentive and pleasant. Nice decor as well. Will definitely come back when I am visiting the folks. Even better, no corkage fee! read more

Beautiful decor, great atmosphere, amazing food! My husband and I were thinking how it's NY prices but better quality than most we have had at this price point. I had my first visit to Ooka last night and it was awesome. They took us right on time for our reservation. Miso soup and gyosa were delicious as was the salad. I had the chicken tempura which also came with a nice assortment of vegetables. Delicious! So big I couldn't finish everything. The restaurant is nicely decorated and service was great. Only negative was the difficult parking. I will absolutely return here. read more

Ooka has good, fresh food but the service is perfunctory bordering on assembly line. Nothing personal. I have probably been here 20 times but there is nothing memorable about the service or even the atmosphere. It is just good quality food and it has little competition in the area. If it were somewhere else, it wouldn't have such good reviews. read more

By far, my favorite sushi in the area. I have never had a disappointing experience here. Their sushi is delicious and fresh. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service is always very good. Only complaint I'd have is it's nearly impossible to get a same day reservation on a Friday or weekend night. Reservations are definitely a must here, especially for hibachi. read more

I have ZERO complaints about Ooka. It is by far the best sushi place I have found in the area. The service is great and the waitresses are always so pleasant. My favorite, however, is the sushi bar. My boyfriend and I go there so much that they know who we are. But, I digress. The cooks working at the sushi bar are so sweet and they are amazing at what they do. The food there is incredible. Whether it is super packed or super empty, the service is amazing and we always get what we order very quickly. I highly recommend Ooka to anyone who enjoys sushi. Everything always tastes so fresh and it almost seems like the food is made specifically for your tastebuds' needs. It is impeccable. I LOVE it. read more

Visited for a work-related lunch. Great service and quality sushi (ordered the Sushi Lunch, nothing spectacular). It's a bit too dark inside, but I shouldn't be considered the authority on restaurant lighting. I think I'd visit again to check out the hibachi! read more

I have eaten here twice and the first time the food was delicious. The portions were generous and the food was savory. The sushi lacked flavor but was well made and easy to eat. After enjoying my first visit, I decided to get sushi to go..............................big mistake. The take out sushi must have been made by the less experienced chefs as it completely fell apart. It was no better than sushi that sits in the grocery store all day, definitely made me question its freshness. While I may dine in in this restaurant, I am never ordering out ever again from here. read more

My husband and I had a very nice meal here last night. Nice atmosphere- definitely glad we made a reservation for a Saturday night. We had miso soup was tasty on a cold day but nothing special. I had a spider roll and sweet potato tempura roll, both very tasty and beautifully presented. My husband had a spicy salmon roll and a AAA roll. The fish was super fresh and practically melted in your mouth. The AAA had a great combination of textures. All total, our dinner was less than $40. We would definitely go back, and if you are looking for a good sushi place in the area, this is the one! read more

It is difficult to get sitting sometimes so be prepared to wait which it is well worth it. The sushi is fresh and delicious. My favorite roll is their specialty roll James Bond. I highly suggest trying it since there is nothing quite like it. The scallop dinner is also fantastic. First time I went here was pretty good, years ago. It was a nice break from the standard suburb sushi fair. Went there again couple days ago and was very disappointed. Most of the sushi roll menu contained seared or fried fish and very little raw fish. The sushi and sushimi menu was tiny and left a lot to be desired. We got a lobster bisque that was terrible. To the point that I wondered if the chef ever tasted it before putting it on the menu. A roll called mango passion didn't even have a mango taste, and had ingredients in it that were so incongruent that the taste was bizarre. The simple rolls were ok, but tasted like any other sushi place. Also ordered a fried green tea ice cream. Nope. Didn't have that. Only had chocolate, strawberry and vanilla fried ice cream. The crust fell apart instantly. It was cold. The ice cream should have been melting a bit on the outside from the outer crust being fried, but given that this desert was probably sitting in the freezer, it was rock solid. They're supposed to fry it quickly once ordered. Even lowering my high standards of culinary experience I cannot give this place more than 2 stars based on food alone. It's a popular place and people do seem to like it. In my opinion it's probably because they don't venture out past the burbs. read more

I'm a sushi snob, and I was very impressed with the sushi at Ooka. I asked for all of the items they had special that night - oysters, toro (fatty tuna), Atlantic salmon, scallop, some others that I can't remember now. The cuts of fish were excellent, generous and very fresh. I didn't order any special rolls, but the ones other diners ordered looked delicious. Only negatives I would say are none of the sushi was served with shiso leaf and they didn't have fresh wasabi. Price was very reasonable for sushi (especially compared to NY and Tokyo). Really nice dining atmosphere, and excellent service. read more

It is hard to believe that there is better sushi in the Philly suburbs than what this place has to offer. It has become my cousin's favorite for sushi night, and he shows up with bottles of good beer (which is not really the ideal accompaniment to fish, but so what). The rolls are pretty astonishing - big, colorful, and creative. I had a big hunk of sea bass, which was gentle and nicely textured, but left me thinking that I should have gone for something more varied. The atmosphere is nothing special, but the food is. Ooka is quite popular, so expect a decent crowd if you go during peak hours. read more

OOKA Willowgrove is amazing!! My boyfriend and I come almost every week. The sushi is the best I have had, probably ever. The tuna pizza and james bond roll are excellent. I've been a patron of Ooka Willow Grove for about 7 years and always order the lobster dynamite roll, which is wonderful. It's also one of the pricier selections on the menu. While the quality of the food has remained superb, the roll keeps shrinking in size. I'm not the only one who has noticed -- I go there regularly with others, who have said the same thing. I was there today, and the roll was smaller still. Very disappointing. Given a choice between a price increase and a shrinking lobster dynamite roll, I'll take the price increase. read more

Ooka Willow Grove is one of my go-to restaurants for solid service, fantastic food and good atmosphere. When considering a restaurant in the suburbs everything seems to lack in either decor or taste and this is one restaurant that will never let you down. Their miso soup is always good and comes out without hesitation. The shumai is light and airy but whatever you do, do not leave without getting the James Bond roll. And make sure you save room for the red bean ice cream! read more

Went today for Mother's Day and the food is just average. We ordered the sushi/sashimi combo for three and when our order came most of the selection came only in two's but there are three of us who wants have a taste of the different sushi and sashimi that they have. It's very misleading and when we complained about it all they said it's all on the sushi chef's decision how many and what to serve. Very very disappointing experience. read more

Ooka is a great sushi find for the suburbs. They have two locations and both places have excellent customer service. There are friendly staffs that greet you at the door and the servers are very energetic. The sushi is fresh and the price is not too bad. The hibachi is also very upbeat and entertaining. Had a large group for dinner this evening with relatives from out of town, the sushi and appetizers were good, the Hibachi was horrible, everything was overcooked and salty. The fried rice, noodles, "med-rare" Filet, scallops, shrimp and lobster were all over cooked...what a waste. I can only imagine the chef was inexperienced, he slopped our fried rice and noodles on our plates and didn't display the typical techniques we were accustomed to seeing at hibachi, he never even asked how our dinner was...I guess he already knew. Went last night, Thursday, 5:30 reservation. We had two waitresses tag-teaming our table which could have been positive but for the fact that it came across as rushing us. They alternated asking us if we were ready to order, 4 x total. Then, additional 6 times they asked us if everything was ok. On the last time, I looked up and said 'we are STILL fine". They were removing my husband's Deluxe Sashimi platter as he put his chopsticks down. The entire meal was ruined, in my opinion , by what appeared to be their rushing us to order, eat, and finish. Also, we both ordered special soups. Since the Miso comes with dinner entries I asked if they would waive the $2.00 extra charge for the brown rice I wanted as I would be paying for a soup rather than taking the soup that came with the meal. It took 3 people in discussion for 15 minutes to come back and say no. It is certainly not the money, It was the principle of it for me. My husband, who is generally more lenient than I am believed that since there were so many waitresses for so few tables the wait staff wanted to get us out as quickly as possible so that they would have a shot to have the next people that walked in sit at their assigned tables. Whatever the answer it was a very irritating dinner, we could barely engage in a conversation with the waitress's continually interrupting us. My husband always enjoys the Sashimi there but even he said we are looking for a good option for his next Sashimi craving. Last night I had, for the first time there, a tempora shrimp. Had better elsewhere, it was flavorless. read more

The atmosphere was very nice. The salmon hibachi was awesome! If you do a hibachi dinner, you get a ton of food so no appetizers needed.

The sushi & tempura are excellent. The atmosphere is modern yet comfortable. The prices are on par with other Japanese cuisine restaurants. I have had take-out many, many times and have never been disappointed. I have had dined in this location for lunch and have never been disappointed. BYOB in the Willow Grove location keeps the dinner check reasonable. My only criticisms are: 1.) Parking is a bit of a disaster; and 2.) Staff needs be more customer service oriented.. read more
