Post #COVID19 they reopened just this past Monday (6.22.20) and I was sooooo thrilled to finally take care of my hair, which was long overdue for Oosha's special care. 'Special', not because my hair is difficult to handle, but bc Oosha makes me feel special every time I come. That's why I've been with her for more than 20 years now!! This is her specialty, she will always make you feel like a princess or a prince when you leave her salon! She is a professional and a master of her craft. She will always look for best ways to treat your hair even if it means you'll come back less frequently. For example, couple of years ago my daughter (who literally grew up under Oosha's care) wanted to dye her hair. What my daughter had in mind was expensive and unhealthy for her young and healthy hair. Oosha offered better results, less expensive and healthier option. My daughter was happy. Please avoid this salon! I agree with the other reviews on how insulting and rude she is. Do not fall for the 'positive' reviews. They sound over the top and sponsored. That's how I was fooled. The owner Oosha is a terrible person and a very lazy hair stylist. I had a terrible, terrible experience here. She kept insulting me from the moment I walked in to the moment i left the salon. She is basically a cruel bully, kept picking on me when i was vulnerable. When I came in, she acted like i was bothering her when i rang the bell because she took her sweet time coming to the door and stayed chatting with a customer. She told me 'you rang the bell like 8 times''. I rang the bell 3 times and she it seems she didnt even want to answer the door for me and stayed chatting and doing her own thing but she wants to complain? That shows to me she did not even want to take me in. She shows preferences and favors certain customers. When it came to having her wash my hair, it was so uncomfortable. She kept saying how my scalp was so dirty, (Well yeah i came in for a wash and cut, it is not so surprising if a client's hair is not super clean)and how my hair was very bad and implying i am unhygienic. she said this to me the first time i came here too. I do not want to come to a salon every time and have her belittle me . Salons should be a relaxing and pampering session, you should not feel defensive and insulted for simply getting your hair washed. She also gave out unwanted advice to me that went beyond hair care and pointed out what she felt what was wrong with me. As if she is perfect, i could have pointed out some things about her too that needed to be taken care of, but that would be rude as she did not ask for it. I didn't ask for her unwanted criticisms. She said more out of the line and very rude things to me, she made horrible judgemental comments and basically tried to imply i looked like a mental unhygienic slob. I do take care of my hygiene and its clear she does not know how to take care of my hair type, which is thick, dry and curly it does not need to be washed everyday. If i were to do that it would fall out and become even more dry! How does she not know that? i wash my hair every 4 or 5 days when i went to the salon to get it wash it only been three days since i washed my hair. but according to her that is unhygienic. It was such an awful experience. If you have thick curly and dry hair do not come here! she does not know how to take care of it or what she is doing. Actually for any hair type, stay away! For your own mental and emotional being, she will try to bring you down in any way she can because she is a bully. Shame on you Oosha, for putting your customers down in order to feel better about whatever you are going through. Please avoid this salon, the owner is a cruel, abusive, narcissist. I've lived in the area for the past decade, and Oosha is the only person I trust to cut my hair. The salon has a very relaxed vibe, and you feel at ease upon entering. I've gone to other places when living outside of New York City and wasn't nearly as satisfied. Whenever I go to Oosha I know I'll leave looking and feeling my best. There honestly isn't a comparable salon nearby that delivers the kind of quality this place has. I have a lot of anxiety around getting haircuts, and it's really nice to know that I have a place I can go that always gives great results. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I had a terrible experience with Oosha, it was 3 hours of torture being personally insulted getting my hair colored and trim. She took pleasure in being rude and insulting and didn't stop till I left the shop. Out of spite she cut my hair uneven and old lady-like, the color she used damaged my hair drying in out and had color striping at the root area which took months to repair the damage. I had been going to her for 2 years and will never return but feel it's important to warn others of her lack of professionalism and insulting behavior. read more

"Why is it so difficult to find a decently priced haircut in Forest Hills??" I thought as i was walking up and down Austin St trying to find a place to tame my unruly hair. Call me what you will, but I just can't justify spending $60 on a haircut when I KNOW good haircuts exist for less. Unwilling to compromise on price and lazy to travel to Chinatown for a bargain cut, I expanded my search and found Oosha's with a little help from my friend, the Internet. I'm happy to report that I'm turning in my player card. Gone are the days of different hair stylists. I've found the one stylist that I want to keep going to. In the words of Journey, "I'm forever yours -- faithfully!" Oosha's won me over with their friendly staff (Sharon and Oosha). Oosha herself is fantastic -- she knows exactly what looks great on her clients and executes. She gave me simple and practical 'how to look good for dummies' advice on what I can do on a daily basis to keep my hair looking great. In a matter of 20 minutes, she transformed my 'do from looking like Joaquin Phoenix circa 2009 to Jennifer Aniston (circa ALWAYS! Her haircuts always looks so FABULOUS!) all for $36! I was a little hesitant to yelp about Oosha at first (what if word catches on and I'll never get time with her?!) but I've put aside my selfish thoughts because I believe everyone deserves an amazing haircut at an amazing price. I originally found Oosha through my sister and then my mom went to her and finally so did I. I hadn't gone to her in the last 2-3 years. (I got pregnant had a baby and I live in the Brooklyn area and this area is far from where i live) Fast forward to this past Sunday. I went had an appointment and I let Oosha cut my hair. She's fantastic with scissors and really looks for whats good with your face shape and what can work for you. She told me what I can do to upkeep my hair and how to take care of it properly. She wasn't pushy with selling products and told me of alternate products that I can use that I have at home. After an amazing cut she flat ironed my hair and made it look fabulous. I left feeling like a new person. I have 3c curl patter so I would suggest you do a wash and set at home and go to her to cut your hair. She will even suggest it to you when you walk through the door in order to save you money. Overall it still beats alot of places that charge $80+ to cut curly hair. read more

I lived in Forest Hills way back when Oosha managed the late and unlamented "Super Cuts" on the "CVS" corner of Queens Blvd. She left there, and opened up right across the street. The fact that she is still there, and thriving, is totally unsurprising. (And also that she outlasted the chain). Oosha is smart, kind and most of all very, very good at what she does. She has demonstrated an honesty and sensitivity that I've rarely found in a hair stylist. She listens carefully, and has a way of hearing what you want, whether or not you are actually able to accurately communicate it! She also has always been able to suggest ideas without forcing them on you. Often, her way of looking at what I should be doing with my hair has proven much better than my own! I'd give it 5-stars if the stupid Yelp algorithm wouldn't delay my post. I've been coming here since the day Oosha opened the store. I was a customer of hers when she still worked at Supercuts. She has an awesome staff who are hard working and receptive to your needs. Their prices are fair compared to all the other hair stylists and they are willin to work with you. I can only review haircuts for men, but I can say that Oosha's has a large following of return customers. Alex has been cutting my hair an I am happy with the service. He offers suggestions before he starts and they'll rinse your hair afterwards to get rid o f the loose hair. For women, Oosha has a large variety of services you'd expect from any hair salon. I always notice she takes extra care with her female customers and they always have a laugh and a smile. They're also really great with kids, and Alex is especially gentle and caring. Also, he caters to most of the male customers here. Sharon is always ready with a smile and service, and she washes hair like no one else. For all those haters who say they are rude or nasty, understand that sometimes it's how YOU approach them also. I have known them to be accommodating and helpful, and they always greet their customers with a 'Welcome to our store!' and a smile. I hope this review helps, and try them out. I don't like to give bad reviews but I am still bothered by my experience there in July. I called to make an appointment. Sharon answered the phone. Very pleasant. I asked how much a haircut will be, she said it depends, I can only tell you when you come in. No problem. Also, she will be my stylist. Cool. So, I get to the salon about half an hour early. Sharon led me to wash my hair then said sorry I thought you were my other appointment. That's no problem, I am a very patient person and I was the early one anyways. I don't mind waiting. Anyway, when it's my turn she washes my hair (nothing to report) we get down to styling (i didn't go for a cut, only style). I was attending a wedding and I wanted my hair to be sleek. She asked if she wants my side bangs like this or like that. I would pause and say I don't know, I guess I want it yadda yadda. She kept asking me the SAME question: ok but you want it this way or that way? I was trying very hard to express myself, but it's like the only acceptable answers were either A or B. I felt she didn't listen to me well but I dont understand WHY- did she have another client coming in soon?? Is that way I felt so rushed?? Finally I let myself show a bit of emotion (not as in yelling [if you knew me you know i don't cause a fuss], I raised my voice slightly just to let her know that i'm unhappy). She put her hand on my shoulder and said it's ok, sh, i'm just asking you is you want it like this or like that. Excuse me but shushing me is incredibly infuriating and extremely rude. I just smiled weakly and told her do it like B, cuz at that point I gave up. She styled my hair so it pointed inwards and kept saying this looks nice, very nice. Honestly, it looked horrible and I couldn't wait to leave the salon. When I got home my family made me tousle my hair cuz it was so meh annd then my hair didn't look any different than how it is usually. Which means I spent $36 on a very unpleasant experience- $30 for the cut and the usual 20% on tip. Also I told her I have very sensitive skin please don't touch my face. She said she wasn't, but I broke out the next day around the perimeter of my face where, yes, her fingers were. I never had this issue of "touching" at another other salon. Overall I'm disappointed with the service I received which is a shame because it's right next to the subway and very convenient to commute to. read more

I'm a VERY picky customer (due to follicular challeges). So the fact that I've been coming here for a few years should tell you A LOT. Alex (only there in weekends) takes the time to adjust according to your needs. He has the patience to listen to the nuances of your intentions, and little by little, adjust to reach your desired look. He understands that a haircut is a combination of hair density, strand thickness, volume, layers. And how all these factors combine to yield the final product. It's his art. I had never been here and had a 6pm appt for my son only to show up at 610 and see the place dark and locked. All of a sudden this woman comes up to me and says "oh you are late and I have an appointment." I'm sorry, your sign says you are open until 7 and you have an appointment at 610?!?! SAVE YOUR TIME and MONEY!! COMPLETE RIP-OFF. RUDE & INSULTING OWNER!! I had my roots done once at Ooshas which was more than enough!! If I could take it back I most certainly would. Oosha the owner charged me a drastically different price than the one she quoted me over the phone (and also gave me before she began working). She asked for four times the price she quoted me originally. When I confronted her she aggressively barked at me ; " In my salon you don't get a price until I'm finished with everything". Both ridiculous and infuriating- coming from someone that doesn't have AC in the summer, doesn't even offer the client (or have) a glass of water and is located in a hole in the wall shop next to a train & bus station on the highway-long cry from good treatment if you ask me. There are no prices posted anywhere so you can not get a clear pricing on anything; even if you ask beforehand like in my case the price WILL DEFINITELY CHANGE. Oosha has an unbelievably lazy attitude. It took her over SEVEN HOURS to finish my hair, only a touch up color job and simple blowout. Needless to say I won't be returning there; Oosha may have succeeded in scamming me but she lost another customer for life. read more

Yay! I found my new hair place! The salon itself is cute and clean. Oosha was great. I wanted a cut that was fun, but easy to maintain; she gave me exactly what I asked for. It's amazing what a great haircut can do for your self-esteem; I feel great! I'm also losing my hair a lot lately, and she had a lot of great tips for me. This place is a joke. Or should I say the owner Oosha is a joke. After what was a very nice experience getting a wash and blow dry with Sharon - one of the hair stylists - I was sent to the desk to pay. The owner ran my credit card, gave me a receipt which I signed then says her system went down and can I wait to make sure it went through. When I sald no i could not wait bc I had to catch a bus in 2 minutes she said well give me your credit card number so in case it doesn't go through I can do it again. From a person who knows identity theft first hand I refused to do this but showed her my bank activity on my phone proving that it did go through. You would think this would be the end of it but no she then says can she have my drivers license ID # and my phone number just in case. I again refused. She then proceeded to yell at me to get out of her store and she doesn't need my money. I told her congratulations on being an excellent business owner and losing a new customer who was actually very happy and had thought about making the salon a regular stop for my weekly blowouts. I would not recommend this place and for the same money I can go to Micchice on Austin and have a nice experience with an actual business owner. read more

i came here for a trim. place is clean. people are nice. however, in my experience its not the greatest. i've been to many salons in the city, flushing, etc. and i can tell style from ordinary. if you want simple cut or trims, its not that bad but for layered look, i would think again. sorry i will keep looking. read more

Couple moths ago, I went in for a simple trim (I'm growing my hair out). Just a trim, no wash, no dry. My trim which had been $18 was suddenly $30 with no explanation. While I waited, there was some kind of dispute between the haircutter and a previous customer, which was awkward to witness, and not a sign of a classy place. Rude. I went there for a trim and was turned away because the girl working there clearly didn't want to work. It was 6 pm and they closed at 6:30. I have super short hair it would have taken her 5 mins for what I was asking for. Instead she said they were not taking anymore appointments even though they were open for the next 30 mins and the store was empty. To be honest, the haircut that I have got from Oosha's was by far the WORST in half of my life. I'm 19. I really regret for going to that place. Never will I ever go there again. If anybody is like me who likes their hair on the longer side and tell the haircutter to leave it long but they still cut it off 2 times more than was asked to then it's absolutely absurd for you to go there. My hair was like 6 or 7 inches, but was left with 3 inches when I told to cut just the tips of the hair by 1 inches. Crazy how people misunderstand each other in the most opposite way. read more

I stumbled upon Oosha's leaving the subway station at Kew Gardens. I needed a haircut so I figured I would give them a try. The salon is very clean and the employees are very warm. I have since gone back a second time and I will be going again soon. She does a great job and the prices are reasonable. I have even had people tell me they like my hair and where do I go. I was living in Manhattan the first time I went and now I am in Brooklyn. I will keep going because the salon is convieninetly located on the way to a friend's house. read more

This is the first bad review I have ever written. I don't like to bad mouth people, but I had such a horrible experience that I have to warn others, Oosha was referred to me by a neighbor and I was shocked by her unprofessionalism. I went for highlights and a cut. Oosha was a little rough with pushing my head while doing the foils and I simply told her "just let me know when you want me to move my head and I will". She went crazy, screaming at me and threatened to rip the foils out of my head! I am a mature, calm, sensible person and I decided not to react to her over the top behavior. What else could I do? It was clear to me that I was dealing with a very unstable person and I had an entire head of foils. I forced myself to stay and just get it over with it. Her demeanor quickly shifted and she all of a sudden became very sweet to me. She told me that next time she will give me a great deep conditioner. Next time???? I would never step foot in that salon again! The whole experience was surreal. read more

I would provide this hair salon an even lower rating if I could but, unfortunately, yelp does not allow me to. I have never written a bad review in my life but I feel the need to warn people of how unprofessional this salon is. Oosha is extremely rude, not only to her customers but also to her employee, Sharon, who she micromanages/belittles in front of customers. The first time I went to the salon she did not understand that I wanted low lights and toner put in my hair. She covered my entire head of highlights with a single process dye job and she insisted that there was no such thing as low lights (apparently she is uneducated in her own field). The single process came out awful and she insisted that it looked great...well, I insisted it be corrected and it ultimately was, after I went home and got the courage to return. I then gave this salon a second chance as I had a simple hair dye job (single process to my natural color) and she is conveniently located on my corner. Well, BIG MISTAKE and quite honestly, my own fault for giving her a second shot. I did not want my hair blown out, but wanted to dry it myself to see the color (standard). She then CHARGED ME $5 for ELECTRICITY - yes, she charged me for electricity! I have been going to salons for many years, and this has never happened to me. I also noticed that her employee asks her the price of everything as it appears that she changes the price for every person that walks into the door based on her perception of them and doesn't have standard pricing.
