This is a great local place and I feel honored to be able to have authentic Greek food and family in the area. Can never go wrong with gyro ($6 gyro and fries on Tuesdays) and Baklava. I only dinged a star because the atmosphere of the joint isn't warm or somewhere I want to stay and settle in. It's like crisp white clean with a harsh electric blue. This is Greek fast food done right. It's not huge and it's not fancy. But the food was excellent and a great value. I got a Gyro Platter. It consisted of a small, fully assembled gyro with a decent sized Greek salad. Much better than the typical platter platter that forces a diner to construct a gyro from parts at the table. I also picked up a chicken gyro, which was a stand-out. The lamb & beef is ground together and roasted on a vertical spit--pretty much what you'd find in any US gyro shop. The chicken is not ground, but is a mix of white and dark meat, nicely spiced and stacked on a vertical spit. That's harder to find. Both the lamb and chicken were cooked nicely, browned but not dry nor overdone. My salad and gyro had very fresh components. Fresh tomatoes, crisp lettuce and onions, and plenty of feta. The tzatsiki was excellent, too. I made a second trip to Opa! Opa! and everything was just as good. I also tried a chicken cheesesteak and it was excellent, too. Opa! Opa! will be a regular stop any time I'm near Wilmington. read more

Opa Opa is one of the freshest, most flavorful food spots in Wilmington Delaware! Every visit never disappoints. I have had almost everything on the menu and it is always hard to choose what I want to eat lol The food comes out very quick and the menu is hefty with lots of options to choose from. Beautiful wall decor almost made me feel like I was eating in Greece. Tried the rice pudding and it was a little too cold. Like it was literally giving me a toothache. The rice was a bit hard too. I have never heard of this place until one day, my mom took me here for lunch. The place was hoppin', a lot of people waiting for their orders and a lot of people coming in to order their food. Seating is limited, but if you keep your eyes peeled for the people leaving, you'll be able to get a seat. My mom and I got gyros and they were one of the best gyros that I've ever had! The only other place that I know of and that makes delicious gyros is a food truck in Newark, but now I can add this place as one of my go-to places to get a gyro. I get the big Greek chicken salad with a pita bread. Good and super filling. It is big and actually difficult for me to finish. I do wish it had more olives, I usually only get 4 or 5 in the whole thing. The red wine vinegar and olive oil dressing is great and so is the feta. Sometimes the chicken is a little too dry. The chicken souvlaki gyro with fries is also really good and a better deal price wise if you want something heavier. And this place has cheesesteaks if that's more your style which is unfortunately the most dominant smell when you enter the restaurant. I think the hours change depending on the time of year but they're the type of place that is ready to be out the door at night. Arrived one night a half hour before the expected close time and they heavily suggested we take our order to go, because they "close in 9 minutes". Just get there earlier I guess. read more

My husband and I used to get a large Greek salad to share almost every Saturday last spring/summer. Delicious and one salad was enough for both of us. We were hoping to renew that tradition this year, but now I have my doubts. When I went to pick up the salad, the cashier had her face mask pulled down - not covering her nose. She then pulled it down further to talk to me. I was taken aback, which she picked up on & then she seemed to have a bit of an attitude. I'm going to think twice before going to Opa Opa again. I like to support local businesses, but I can go elsewhere. Not wearing a mask or wearing one incorrectly can endanger customers and fellow employees. Disheartening to see. I asked the cashier what the gyro platter comes with (i.e. salad, pickles, how many pitas, are there side dishes? there are so many possibilities). Customer service makes e v e r y experience better! Let's call her Opa, for review purposes. Opa seemed annoyed by us entirely. Her look of disgust and one word answers for this first timer screamed unwelcoming to say the least. I had the tzatkiki dip, and the dolmades (stuffed grape leaves.). Had to pay another $1 for pita so I could eat my dip with something other than a spoon, unnecessary charge. The dip was delicious, mild in flavor, and had a solid amount of cucumbers. The dolmades were unimpressive. I have a high standard because these are my fav of the Greek cuisine, but the rice mix was almost hard and lacked flavor. I actually took the leaves off entirely, leaving my plate with a rice party. My gf enjoyed her Greek salad which had the most ripe tomatoes I've seen in late November! We ordered gyros and ended up with platters, which are a gyro and a Greek salad. The lamb gyro came out better than the chicken because it was more juicy. The chicken was a little dry. That said, it was well-seasoned and filling. If you just want a gyro, you need to ask for just a gyro. The Greek salads were excellent with milder than usual feta cheese. The meals were a little pricier than a lot of gyro meals, but that might be due to the location in Trolley Square which has a higher overhead than some other areas. We didn't order dessert, but they had the usual sweets like rice pudding and baklava, which I imagine would be satisfying. When you go is also important because there are a lot of bars and restaurants in the area so evenings are going to be crowded. If you live within walking distance, that's not a problem. If you are driving in, you might have trouble parking. We probably will opt for other Greek restaurants for the reasons I stated above. read more

All of the 5 star reviews leave me scratching my head... I ordered the gyro platter for take out. By the time I made it home I was too far away to go back. Why would I want to take it back you ask? THEY DIDN'T PUT TSATZIKI SAUCE ON IT. There was also a lack of vegetables too. And to add insult to injury, the meat itself reminded me of some of those dive Greek diners! My girlfriend got the Opa Opa salad. She had a lack of lettuce and mostly feta cheese. We are going to save the cheese for tomorrow's omlette. The spinakopia was bland also. Even the baklava was nothing to write home about. This place might, might be good by Wilmington standards, but comparing it to peers in other places it is awful and overpriced too! read more

I noticed signs for Opa Opa a while ago but didn't realize that they had opened for business until I saw reviews on Yelp. On first look, I'm impressed. The place is bright and clean, decorated in a Greek blue-and-white motif. Behind the counter, the staff was busy preparing various dishes for customers. I ordered the bifteki pita and like the place itself, the food was fresh and simple. Not overly drenched in sauce. A delight for lunch. The downsides to this place are common to all eateries in Trolley Square. They only have three tables inside. There is some outside seating but it's not really great unless the weather is good. Also, parking in this strip mall can be a problem during the lunch rush. So I think it may be a good idea to call ahead and get the food for takeout instead. read more

Half-Greek here who grew up on this food. This place is the real deal for fast food and some home-cooked traditional dishes. It's hard to find good pastitsio (baked macaroni and ground beef) outside your grandmother's house but they have it here. The salads are fresh and well made. (Note that the authentic Greek salad--no lettuce--is called horiatiki on the menu. If you want lettuce order a "Greek salad.") The desserts--baklava, rice pudding--are fantastic. Are people seriously leaving average/bad reviews for "service" haha. It's a take out place. You're not going here to sit down to dine on a first date. Get out of here. Also, for the people complaining about the staff because they get annoyed when you ask "what comes in a gyro", you deserve to get an attitude or eyes rolling. Don't ask stupid questions and you won't get a bad response. The food here is definitely the best around for Greek food. There are 100s of food trucks around that sell gyros, but they aren't anywhere near as good as Opa Opa here. The Gyro and Greek fries are definitely my go to, and I go pretty often.
