I ordered the King Gyro Combo. It was delicious, and they don't skimp on portion size. Everything was fresh and well prepared (and packaged). The meats are excellent. I favor lamb, but all were really good. You get an abundant portion of yellow rice, and the hummus is suburb! I have not dined in, but plan to! If you like Mediterranean food--check it out! Really solid spot for Mediterranean food. Went with the small platters for dinner. They were a great size. Plenty for an adult for dinner. Hummus was a little thin, but tasted great. I wish it came with thicker pita and more of it. Lots of meat on top, not just a giant bowl of rice. Only let down is the beef and lamb are the preformed stuff you usually see on a gyro, not the freshly made kind. Prices were great and the order was ready when we got there (ordered online). Absolutely the worst gyro ever. The food looks nothing like the pictures and is a rip-off. The Mediterranean dressing is bottled store dressing and doesn't even give you enough even though it's terrible. The grilled chicken gyro was little chunks and nothing like the pictures. I ordered over the phone using their online menu and found when I went to pick up my order the prices were higher than the advertised price on their website: https://gyrokingde.net For example the Chicken Shawarma priced at $12.99 on the on line menu but it was ultimately $15.99. The food was good and the staff were polite enough but the bill was $6.50 more than the on-line menu had. The staff did not seem to think it was an issue that the business was involved in misleading advertising. And they refused to honor the on-line price. read more

I'm giving this establishment 3 stars because perhaps I just had a bad meal, which can happen. I ordered chicken and lamb kebab to go, and a side salad. Both the chicken and lamb were dry as anything and lacked flavoring. The salad and salad dressing were however excellent. I judge all local establishments that serve Mediterranean/North African/Middle Eastern food by comparing them with Ali Baba in Newark, which although much more pricey, never fails to disappoint in terms of tenderness and flavor of the food. Best Gyro and falafel that I have ever had! The falafel appetizer has a nice golden outside without drying it out. Moist with a little bit of flavorful spicy kick. This is the way that falafel should taste I had wonderfully seasoned beef right off the spit and made into a gyro. The baklava is a bit salty it could use a bit more sweetness. Used to love this place. Not an area much and with COVID haven't been in in about 2 years. Got lamb gyro platter with fries. Lamb is hard, cold and not too good. Fries were cold even though I'm the only one in here with one take out order since. Not too clean either with sticky floors in dining room and sticky table. Shame to see. I ordered the lamb gyro. While the meat was tasty and flavorful, it was very skimpy on the veg. I was also surprised by the addition of pickles to the mix. It was mostly lamb and pickle and left me missing the tomato, onion and lettuce. Maybe I came on an off day? (Saturday) Because some of the other reviews were happy with their topping ratio. The stuffed grape leaves were delicious. But I was a bit weirded out that the tzatziki sauce was a slight pink hue, even though it tasted normal. The wait also seemed rather long, close to 20 minutes for 4 gyros and grape leaves. While I understand that's a decent amount of food, there was no one in the restaurant when we ordered. If I had stopped here on a lunch break during the week, I'd have burned most of my break time just waiting for my food. I'd definitely come here again for a gyro craving, but I've had better. read more

It was a nice stop for a lamb gyro. The lamb was sliced thin and well cooked, not overly dry but not too succulent either. While good it was about average for lamb gyro. The rice was soft and cooked okay but did not stand out much. Salad was standard mixed greens with an average sauce. The staff member taking orders seemed a bit confused between the combo vs the platter vs other items on the menu. I am not sure what I actually got off the menu other then it being a lamb gyro with some rice and a salad. I would return for a gyro again, but would probably avoid some of the fancier combinations on the menu for fear of confusion. Also it is close to work. But overall the only words that come to mind are "average" and "okay". read more

This place is a real gem. Had the lamb Gyro Platter. The portion was a very good size, and included their homemade hot pepper spread, garlic sauce, tzatziki, pita, salad, and fries. I think my only mistake was in ordering the fries - they were the only thing on the menu that was not clearly made in house - well cooked, but disappointing only in comparison to everything else which was delicious. The meat was perfectly seasoned, the pita was clearly fresh, and the sauces were completely delicious. I believe their claim about the meat being coal fired and cooked to order - the timing was about right for that, and the food was piping hot when it was brought out. Prices were very reasonable as well. Don't be dissuaded by the strip mall - as so often happens in this area the gems are where you don't expect them. read more

Our visit to Gyro King had some hits, some misses, and apparently a lot of salt. We stopped by for dinner and were immediately greeted by the friendly owner. He's a really nice guy. We ordered a lot of different things to try. My wife started out with the Moroccan soup which she really liked. I had the baba ganoush. It was weird tasting, unlike any baba I have eaten in the past. Another poster said it tasted like it was made in an ashtray and come to think of it, it's not all that inaccurate as it had a bitter taste. Fortunately for us, the friendly owner suggested we try the eggplant salad since he got the impression we like eggplant. It was delicious. I would get this again. We also had a decent hummus that was served with kind of thin, kind of greasy pitas. I had the beef tangine with prunes. It was good but the meat was kind of fatty. I ordered it with Moroccan bread which was tasteless but my wife enjoyed it. For an entree, she had the lamb gyro platter with fries. The fries were decent, nothing special, but the gyro meat, which was a little dry, had to be the tastiest lamb gyro-style meat I have had in a while. For dessert we took home some pistachio baklava. My wife enjoyed it but I thought it was just ok. The following morning we kind have of felt bloated a bit because some of the stuff we ate was apparently a bit salty. But it happens. All in all, Gyro King, like similar places we've tried locally, is decent enough. Some of the food is good and some is not. But when you are admittedly spoiled by the silky hummus and the freshly baked pitas at Dizengoff and the moist, nutty baklava at Kanella Grill in Philly (check out my pictures) it's hard not to be disappointed. read more

I've tried most of the halal places in Newark but hadn't tried this one. Pretty much like the others. Chicken shawarama that I ordered was mediocre. The chicken was really tough and just not seasoned much. On the plus side, the price was cheap. Really wish Delaware had better Halal options. read more
