The iced coffee and cold brew are for those people that like that nice strong stuff . Never have I had decaf that taste better then regular espresso until I came to open door coffee. Finally came inside. This is a beautiful little coffee house just up the hill from the downtown area of JC. Was greeted with a smile by a kind gentleman who took our order. I had an iced latte with sugar-free hazelnut syrup. My go to favorite coffee order. Next time I will try their Buckeye. I love it here. Small, local, kitschy. Today there are flannels, hats, jewelry, chotchkes, and baubles made by local craftsy types, for sale in the dining room. Coffee is legit, the food is really good. If you're into things like "bran bars," whatever that is, it's included on the huevos rancheros plate today. I'm getting the BLAT ($7), medium coffee ($2), and a cool hat ($12). I like to bring people for their first time. It can be crowded and loud. I am all about supporting local business but a few things that will prevent me from doing this due to this experience. Now I'm just fed up. Ordered Waffles for my boys, after they brought it to the table they told us (we ordered them to be made with chocolate chips) no chocolate chips or syrup. I got toast with my omelet (had to ask for it because my food delivery did not have it) they told me they were out of jelly (honey was offered and just fine). Coffee was good, not great, and $1 extra for creamer to add to coffee. It's just over a dollar for cream bottle at the grocery store! Adding creamer should be included with overpriced coffee. Syrup and jelly should always be in stock for a breakfast venue. No excuse, there are grocery stores everywhere. read more

My husband and I stopped in while beginning our trek back home from North Carolina. One of our favorite road-trip traditions is finding local, non-chain spots--usually uncovered by me while he drives. I take my role as "passenger princess" very seriously. At first, the quiet parking lot made us worry Open Doors might be closed, but the music and lights told a happier story. Inside, the shop was clean, cozy, and immediately welcoming. We ordered coffee and breakfast bowls to go and lingered while we waited. Everything came out FAST--and holy moly, the breakfast was delicious. This is actually our second time here and the first time we came here it completely slipped my mind to do a write up. Nevertheless, I will not miss this opportunity to let everyone know this is just the cutest place you could ever visit. We had a gift card at $5 each from church and we were able to get a chai tea, a regular orange juice and a sausage biscuit at $3.75 and our total came up to $0.29 after the gift cards were applied. So we decided to come and try them again. A kind soul came in before us and left a gift card as a pay it forward gift to those who come behind them, my son and I were among the group of people to receive this blessing before the year closed out. It really did put a smile on my face. This place is very cozy and is a great space for clearing your mind or if you just want a quiet place with good vibes. I bought a muffin for a stranger because I didn't want to do homework here without paying for something. The barista heard me explaining to the guy I bought it for why I did so, and he said I didn't need to buy anything. To put it in his own words "I got'chu, don't worry about it." Great atmosphere. Can be noisy, but not too noisy. Nice, small, homey feel, but never crowded when I'm there in the mornings. And I have to say that Open Doors is such a cool name. Situated on the corner, the entrance is from 8th street. The opening on Roan is an exit. There's a good amount of parking but it can still get crowded when busy, especially when the drive through backs up. There is handicapped parking along the side and a long ramp to the door. Walking in immediately feels cozy and inviting. The order counter is to the left with the menu behind. There's a lot of seating and some door-inspired design. There's a couch in the rear. The coffee menu has a wide variety of options, as well as quite a few teas. The food menu is unique with lighter or more filling options as well as vegetation choices. The Farmer's Toast is more filling than expected due to the abundance of avocado slices, but it's certainly not a heavy meal. The Country egg breakfast bowl is quite filling and very flavorful. The mushrooms added noticeable flavor. The biscuit and gravy was the least liked. Although the biscuits are light, the gravy is thinner than preferred and without property spiciness. Ordering sausage gravy just gets sausage pieces added on top. The flavor is not the same as sausage gravy. The sausage is flavorful though. Open Doors also supports Rise Up!, a non-profit organization working to inspire children so you can do good while getting your coffee fix and a nice meal. read more

So, yeah, they've got serious waffle game. This thing was amazing. Also had some scrambled eggs and bacon as sides and both were very good. Ordered a latte, which was great, but also not always the best way to test out good coffee. That said, I thought it was a really good latte. With scrambled eggs and sausage, it covers roasted sweet potatoes . Sautés spinach covers this and blue cheese is generously crumbled on top. While adding flavor, I would have preferred something less potent, like goat cheese. But wow! $11 Located close to the library, parking and seating is ample but not for large crowds. The cafe scene really slacks in Johnson City, but luckily this is one of the few local spots that has stayed in great business. The town really needs more places like this. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's plenty of spaces available for a weekday morning. The drive through is very convenient for a quick run through too. II. SERVICE No complaints. Friendly and informative. III. QUALITY Great! Surprisingly cheap. I got a large cold brew with a couple add-ins (milk of choice and syrup) for only $3-something. Whereas in other locally owned businesses back home it would have been $6-something. Honestly, even franchises like Starbucks cost a lot more than here, but it's not like you get what you pay for. It did not dazzle me. $12 plus they asked for a tip for a very tiny chicken salad sandwich and an iced matcha. Matcha was not sweet which I guess was my fault for not ordering anything in it but I thought it was an iced matcha latte. I had to pull around front and wait a long time for my food and their parking lot is very tiny and crowded, I had cars beeping at me to move. It was kind of a mess. Have traveled the states for 50 years and this is one of the dirtiest coffee shops ever. No one has cleaned in a long time. Stopping over waiting for a ride- toilet seat is not attached to toilet - No paper towels in bathroom- baseboards have years of dust on them- had to wipe down my own table- girls were unwelcoming- kitchen closed right before I got there and they wouldn't even get me some butter for a cold wrapped muffin from the counter.
