Coffee was okay, not great. Milk was over airated and too hot in my cortado. Ordered an avocado toast and it came with 2 inches high of guacamole. Sounds like a good problem, but it was extremely garlic heavy and made the toast soggy and kinda gross. Pretty average shop, nothing particularly special or distinctive about it. Service was also sub-par. Baristas didn't know much about the coffee and seemed pretty disinterested when asked specific coffee questions. You absolutely need to try them ~ the bread is vegan friendly and made with oats. It's thick and soft with the slight texture from the seeds. There is either NO PRICE and their other trick is there is a price but they angle the sign so it faces the ceiling and you would have to be almost as tall as the ceiling to look down and see a price. You can compare them to a historical figure; the Emperor Caligula (the most despotic of Rome's Emperors) told the people what the laws of Rome are -- by writing them on the tops of the buildings. Another trick they pull is something will say half-off. But that begs the question: Half of WHAT??? They won't tell you. Their scam is you are hungry and you just want something: now. When they ring up the bill you will be shocked; you just bought a bakery good that tastes lousy and costs 3x what Starbucks would charge you. read more

Travelled through town this morning, always try to find a local spot for a cuppa, and Dos Gatos was a delight! Great ambiance, the art on the walls was a whole experience in itself and the service was stellar. We shared bagels, toast, coffees, hot chocolate and all of it was YUM! Oh this place is just wonderful!! It has become my go-to coffee spot when I'm in town. Our whole family is hooked on coming here anytime we are out and about, and it is in such a perfect location! Grab some lunch and walk right over for coffee. So perfect. I tried their cafe miel, which is espresso with honey, milk, and spices. It is to die for!! I highly recommend it with oat milk. I came back to have it again a different day! It's not overly sweet but enough to really give good flavor. This space is just great for hanging out or meeting up with people, as well. It's warm and inviting, and they also have pastries for sale (some at a discount!). I could go here every day! read more

This coffee shop had some amazing reviews so I took the trip to visit it today. Unfortunately I didn't have the same experience. The service was not good and started with not being greeted but the customer behind me was. I asked for a specific blend but was told "no these are what I have." Could've taken a moment of your time to example what blends you did carry. I got my drip coffee and went to look for the cream and sugar which there was no cream. I stood there patiently waiting for someone to come up and was yet again ignored. After a few moments I asked where the half and half was and was directed to an empty creamer container. I just requested a refund and left. As I was walking away the gentleman mumbled something under his breath which I couldn't hear. I can't imagine what would lead a company to be so rude to a customer... only logical thought is I was wearing a veteran hoodie. This quickly became a favorite for coffee in downtown JC because the coffee & barista work are top notch! Simple decor and hanging out is encouraged. Their logo art's cool -- buy a T-shirt! This is the only place I go repeatedly for an actual espresso because they make it smooth & thick...and the authentic size for either single or double. Their bean roast does not taste "burned" as I find with many espressos. I also like their oatmilk & coffee barista work...and they mostly make their own coffee syrups (no corn syrup goop!) Stopped in Dos Gatos on our anniversary trip to see the turning of the leaves. What we found was a top notch coffee shop! They use Counter Culture Coffee (we are big fans) and house made syrups. The hubs got a hazelnut latte. He said it was smooth and very well made. I got a decaf chai rooibos latte. Which wasn't my first choice, but due to Covid supply chain issues, I couldn't have a regular chai tea latte. However, it was delicious! I was really happy I tried it. The place was popping on a Monday mid morning. Lots of people their working or just hanging out. The staff was great. Chill but personable. Enjoyable to talk to and did a great job. Passing through town and searching for great pour over coffee. This place was highly rated and not far away. Even though there were limited hours and restrictions because of COVID, the staff were extremely kind and reopened the store (that had just closed) to make one last coffee for me! The brew Counter Culture, which is amazing. The pour over was delicious. I enjoyed it so much that I bought a bag of beans as well. From my limited experience, I would recommend this spot to anyone who wants a great coffee. Although I didn't order food, their menu looked awesome. I'm going back the rest of the week. read more

Nice ambiance. Really chill and good for a nice coffee break. There are lots of outlets lining the wall so perfect for studying. They try to be sustainable by offering metal straws, having spaghetti instead of plastic coffee stirrers, and using mason jars if you want to get some water. I had their matcha latte, which was really tasty and well done, especially compared to what Starbucks offers. I didn't try their coffee, but they had a lot of options for milk substitutes which I appreciate. The employees are very nice and friendly. As for the prices, I felt like they were pretty standard for a nice coffee shop. I wouldn't say it's particularly cheap, but it's worth it. read more

Gos gatos is a local shop right in downtown Johnson city. Very close to daylight donuts ... coffee and donuts!! What a perfect combo (review coming...) anyway, on to the coffee! Little confusing to find at first but they are tucked away in a little plaza downtown. They're taking Covid very seriously, offering hand sanitizer, masks, and only to-go window service! Very responsible and safe setup for all coffee lovers who are worried about safety! I happened to go twice and the service both times were great. The person behind the "counter" was very kind and helpful. I did, however, notice the turnaround times were very different. The first visit had a quick turnaround and I got my drink in no time. The second visit, with a similar number of people waiting, took quite a bit longer. Either way it was definitely worth the wait. The first visit (well both visits actually) I got the caramel iced latte. This is a favorite of mine and pretty much at least try it every coffee shop I go to. I tend to add a little extra caramel and this one came absolutely perfect. They happen to use a double shot of espresso and it makes a perfect ratio of milk and coffee. It wasn't too sweet either. Seemed like a very well made latte with each flavor getting equal time. It's also important to note that the latte was pretty consistent both times. The other drink I ordered was a cappuccino. This happens to be another favorite of mine. I mostly drink cappuccino at home so I thought to try this one. I feel cappuccino really brings out the quality of the coffee. And unfortunately I could tell it was slightly lacking. I like to believe local shops are supplied by local roasters but it seemed like either the quality of the coffee wasn't grade A or they blended the fresh beans with stale beans. While the cappuccino wasn't great, it was certainly a cut above the typical Starbucks and others. Overall it was a good experience and definitely a place I would go back to. This is also a nice little Hidden Gem in Johnson City! They really aren't very many local coffee shops here. But it's ok, because this one is excellent. Dos Gatos is lovingly named after the owner's two cats. But sadly, there are not cats in the Cafe... But there is excellent coffee. The barristas are all excellent. I love trying the creative seasonal special drinks they come up with. They also don't make their drinks obnoxiously sweet like Starbucks does. So take that into consideration when ordering! If you wanted Starbucks sweet, let your batista know! But they are perfect level of sweet for me. If you really like their adorable and awesome logo and store, they do have unique handmade coffee cups available for purchase, t-shirts and travel mugs among other things. I love our coffee cups! They do have a few options available if you're a little hungry, such as toasts and soup. The coffee is great, the people are wonderful. Try it out. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop to visit. They have such good coffee and it's a very cozy atmosphere! They have armchairs, big tables, and power strips accessible from almost every seat. This makes it an ideal place to study. I love trying their seasonal coffees and drinks, but the café Miel will always be my favorite! HOLY SMOKES!!! If this place was in a bigger city, it would still fit right in. Atmosphere is serene. Staff are polite, soft spoken, and kind. Had the Chai Latte and hazelnut latte. Both were crafted just right. And for the price, the size is very generous!! Location being downtown, surprisingly parking is super accessible. They are a corner unit attached to an art gallery, so view out the window is pleasant and peaceful. Lots of natural light but balanced nicely with the interior's open space... music was subtle, and relaxing. Heard they are relocating soon though, and a brewer will take place of this gorgeous layout. So glad I was able to make it in to absorb its glory before it moves on to a different space. Ohhhh wished I came here sooner. I rate my reviews lots more on "feel" rather than food... and I have to say I absolutely love the chill vibe here. read more

It saddens me to give what used to be my favorite coffee shop a one star review. I've been going to this spot for years, even before it moved to its current location. Something has happened in the last few months. The coffee is just not the same quality it use to be. It started when they stopped carrying low fat milk. Your choices are whole milk, almond milk, or oat milk. None of which taste good in the cafe miel, my drink of choice, in my opinion. I have tried all 3. Today was the nail in the coffin for me though. After despising the whole milk version I tried the oat milk version of the cafe miel last week which was worse but the barista added something to make it taste better. Today the cashier informed me low fat milk was not coming back ever, so I decided to try the almond milk version. It was bland and had a funky taste. So I asked the barista to add a bit more honey in which she rudely informed me they add exactly 30 grams of honey and I would have to pay for more if I wanted more. The coffee tasted terrible and I honestly didn't know if adding more honey would improve it. Had she been nicer, I probably would have paid to try, but she opted to be rude. So I threw the $5 coffee in the trash. I've tried every new milk combo of the coffee I have been literally drinking for YEARS and all tasted like a watered down version with a nasty weird aftertaste. I don't see myself returning unfortunately. I have been disappointed enough over the last few months, rude baristas are simply not tolerable given I have never had a rude encounter before at this shop. At this point I have to assume this is the Dos Gatos they wish to be, and frankly if I wanted gross tasting coffee and rude baristas I could go to Starbucks. read more

Amazing coffee and atmosphere. Open super early (5:30 am ) for you early risers!! This is oldest coffee bar downtown Johnson City that I know of. Located in the fantastic Nelson Art Gallery - Dick Nelson is a huge contributor to the continuing progression of downtown Johnson City - an early business investor and always hosting great events and supporting local artists. Brew Plum is a great place to start your day or stop in to get some renewed energy if you are near downtown. The setting is very comfortable and the staff is very eager to please. Brew Plum now has a nitro coffee brew system which makes a fantastic cup of coffee .. reason enough to check out this really fun and hip place. Really feels like a home setting with comfortable chairs and artwork nearby. Well worth your time to check out - pretty sure you will be hooked like I am. It feels great to support a truly local business that cares so much about making downtown a great experience. read more

Dos Gatos captures the vibe of a West coast coffee shop while nestled in small town, southern, USA. The clean lines, succulents, and artwork give you the impression of a much bigger city. I ordered the Chaitro and the Nitro cold brew coffees. The Chaitro had a wonderfully strong ginger flavor, but seemed to have been cut too much with water. The traditional nitro had the smoothness that I appreciate, but again seemed too water down and lacked a "wow" factor.
