However today my office ordered in from open kitchen and I decided to try something new. Foolish me for thinking I could get good (or even decent bbq) from a non bbq place. I do not recommend getting their smoked beef brisket. It was terrible! Not only was the meat dry but it also tasted old and stale. You could tell they tried to dump a ton of bbq sauce on it to help but nothing was saving that lifeless brisket. Next time I'll stick to what I know with this place and not venture out. In short, don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, but you will have one of the best breakfast in Boca. I recently tried Open Kitchen Cafe for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Their menu is not huge, but has some nice variety. I had the grilled portobello sandwich and it was very tasty. Their fresh-brewed iced tea was delicious. The service was very quick and the employees were friendly and careful when preparing my order for takeout. They also told me that they deliver, which is great! The atmosphere is nothing special - the decor is plain (but clean), with one row of booths down the side of the narrow restaurant. The things that I love about this place are probably the reasons others won't even notice it walking by: the underrated sign, plain decor, and fluorescent feel of a good ol' neighborhood eatery complete with booths and plasticware. OMG!!! I am hooked and in love with this place. This is my second time having lunch at Open Kitchen and I am so happy. I am rating them an A+. A group of friends wanted to go to Five Spice for lunch but when we got there, it was crazy busy! Too many people and not enough seats. We decided to go walk over to Palm Beach Bagel instead. On our way there, I asked the group if we can try Open Kitchen Café. The place looked super clean and they had a nice group of people inside with some tables still open. They all agreed and couldn't stopped talking about how happy they were about my suggesting this place. As you walk through the doors you hear a warm welcome from the people working there. Their work culture is super friendly and you can tell that they take pride in everything they do. The food is fresh, healthy with no hormones and is also affordable. This place is a wonderful little hidden gem right next to some bagel breakfast place that we've also visited. Open Kitchen Cafe was empty the day we ventured through the doors. It's an absolute shame when considering the fact that the bagel place, which is admittedly a lot bigger and more visible, was packed. Although extremely simple inside, the food and service beats their neighbor's by a landslide. It seems to be family owned and the owners/cooks couldn't have been more friendly. I can't remember everything we ordered but I'll let you know what I can recall. I had the huevos rancheros. Incredible. And huge. My girlfriend ordered the coconut oatmeal. I don't even like oatmeal...after tasting hers, I ordered my own bowl, and finished it. You have to try it. Came here a few weeks ago with a couple co-workers. We're always looking for good lunch spots around town and this one stood out with a big menu with healthy items. 2 of us got the Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich (pita) which was recommended by the cashier, and 1 got a chicken plate with 2 sides. The Chicken Souvlaki was massive and delicious. It had big chunks of tasty, tender chicken and was served with pasta salad that was light & flavorful. Co-worker who got the chicken plate really enjoyed hers and it came with a yummy dipping sauce. The cafe was clean, the staff said hello and goodbye to everyone passing through, asked how our meals were and gave suggestions. Honestly when I first came to the door for open kitchen I almost walked away. I am so glad we didn't! As we were turning away a woman was leaving and told us she also almost walked away but that if we came in we wouldn't regret it. I am so glad she stopped is because It was one of the best and healthy breakfasts we have ever had! We both had fresh fruit and veggie smoothies. And we also had the heuevos rancheros and the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. I highly suggest either of these for brunch! There is only one guy taking orders, cooking food and making deliveries but the wait is completely worth it! Mom and pop restaurants in Boca? Do they have the "Endangered Species" on the door? The one thing I loved in LA was that so many of the crusty strip malls were the birthplace of great chefs with a little money and a lot of passion. Imagine my stunned surprise to find one in Florida's version of plasticland. This is a very wonderful place because chef loves food and everything he does shows it. His adorable little girl is in the crib in the back. His pork tacos are slow cooked, great cuts of meat, no hormones etc. His vegetarian and vegan fare is excellent and he makes smoothies that are not the McJamba nutrition lite variety. His sides are as meticulous as his mains. He doesn't have the staff backstopping him right now so there will be times where if y'all run in there as you do in droves that he may be running a bit slow.
