Champion Cycling is staffed by really friendly people. I stopped by this location in Mandarin a few days ago to check out road bikes. I am no cyclist, but one of the employees, Don, was nice enough to show me the differences between bikes and components. The selection is sizable with a focus on roadbike style bicycles. They also had a decent amount of mountain bikes and a few beach bikes and specialty type of bikes for triathletes and other lunatics. They also work on bikes at this location. They keep a handful of used bikes that appeared to be in good shape out front. There's plenty of parking along the front of the building, and I believe there are two other locations in Jax if you don't feel like driving out to Mandarin. read more

I initially brought my bike in because I needed a few specific issues addressed: * Brake service (front brake was slightly contaminated) * Wheel truing on both wheels * Front tubeless wheel not holding air I was clear when dropping it off that I wanted the bike returned in fully rideable condition. When I picked it up, everything looked fine. However, once I got out to the trail, I quickly realized that neither brake was providing adequate stopping power (Shimano XT). I ride black and double-black trails regularly, and the brakes were absolutely not safe for real trail conditions. I brought the bike back to the shop and explained that the brakes were not functioning properly. The technician became defensive and said, "They work fine, I tested them," then demonstrated by stopping inside the shop. That test is not representative of real riding conditions, especially for aggressive trail riding. The shop also informed me that the front wheel was losing air, stating it needed to be retaped and that I might need new tires. I sent the bike back again. The brakes were eventually fixed, but the rim tape issue was not resolved, despite that being one of the original reasons the bike was brought in. Between the initial brake issue, the dismissive response when I raised safety concerns, and the unresolved tubeless problem, this was the worst experience I've had at a bike shop. I no longer feel comfortable having safety-critical work done here and will not be bringing my $3k bike back. read more

The only place I will go to for bicycle repairs and supplies and maybe a new bike one day. All staff I met were down to earth and highly experienced with great product/service knowledge. I bought a trek marlin 5 used off of Facebook and it had a bad head tube on it so I took it up to this bike shop and it took them two weeks to fix so I was a little annoyed at first, then I picked up the bike and then they apologized about how long it took and explained why it took so long, they basically said to me, that they ordered the part to fix it but then they released they needed one more part to fix it so they had to order another part. Champion Cycling is my go to local bike shop. They were very helpful in helping me figure out why I kept having flats on my bike. I had purchased wheels on line and the spoke holes were offset too much. They figured out the problem quickly, replaced the wheel tape was something more adhesive and fixed the problem for good. Just recently I purchased a Bike from them. The fit and service experience was outstanding. I have purchase bikes from other shops and Champion's service has been the best. read more

Last time I had my bike tuned up at this cycle store they did a great job at a reasonable price. They replaced the cables for the brakes and shifters. My issue is that when the cables stretched (which is inevitable) when I took the bike back for an adjustment the manager wanted to charge me for the adjustment. I complained and he was rude. I've been an avid cyclist since 1988 and at every bike shop I ever went to if you bought a new bike or if you got new cables they would tell you the cables will stretch and when they do bring it back in and they'll adjust it for free. When I told the manager of Champion Cycling this he said we never work for free. Is this typical for a bike shops around here? read more

I went to this bike store after I purchased a used mountain bike on Craigslist to switch out the tires to road tires. I purchased two new tubes and two tires. On one of the tires, they forgot to put the valve on the tire. On the other tire, the wheel was completely locked up by the brakes when they handed me the bike. The technician took the bike back for a minute and handed back to me. I didn't have a chance to test ride the bike since the bike was disassembled. When I got home, I found that the brakes on the rear brake were still partially grinding the wheel and does not spin freely. Very disappointed in their unprofessional service and will not be coming back to this store. read more

Called before I went for a break adjustment, was told on the phone $10.00, good deal right? NOPE, $10.00 for each (front and back) and then charged $10.00 to put in a tube plus the cost of the tube? Didn't ask nothing, didn't tell why, just do and charge. Not interested servicing people, just leave it and go so we can take our sweet ole time and charge you with out asking. Not thrilled for I asked before I left $40.00 in their drawn to lower the seat, said no problem and didn't do it. Enjoy the $, you won't get anymore of mine. read more

Owner is argumentative and obtuse. I took two tires to have the tubes replaced. Was quoted $7 a tube + $5 labor x 2. Went to pick up the tires 45 minutes later and was told the cost would be $38. When I asked about it, the owner became upset and belligerent. There are plenty of bicycle stores on San Jose. I recommend riding right past this one and finding another. read more

Phil & Jeff are both great! I went to several bike shops before Champion and all they wanted to do was sell what was on the floor. Champion asked me several questions before showing me any bikes, as they listened to MY needs vs. showing me only what was on the floor. When they didn't have the mountain bike that was best for my needs, they transferred a similar bike from another store the next day, in a small men's version for me to test. Seeing the quality of that bike I placed an order for the Liv Embolden II Jeff recommended. Liv is a company managed by women who design and make bikes only for women. Once the bike arrived Jeff spent a few hours custom fitting the bike to me at no extra charge, and assembled my new Thule rack. After getting my bike I found a few other items on the internet I wanted, including a heavy duty rack & trunk bag with panniers. Jeff then placed a few special orders to make sure I had everything I needed for my new ride, and installed the equipment when it arrived. As a person in sales and service myself I wouldn't go anywhere else! Their prices are competitive for the quality you get, yet they have the knowledge and service to make sure I make the right purchases. I prefer one stop shopping vs. using the internet, as I like service after the sale, if any issues come up with the products I purchase. It's too easy to run into problems, or have to deal with return shipping, if an item is not what I want or doesn't live up to what's pictured on a website. Champion stands behind their products and service, and will make the right recommendations for the customer, vs. try and only make a sale for their company. Having been in business over 30 years, you can see why they remain in business and I highly recommend them. read more
