I…read moredid some research and it would cost me about $2k each to replace so I decided to get them reupholstered. I got quotes from various shops and Manning's was the most reasonable and affordable. Manning's is a family-owned shop; Sonja & Theron were so super sweet and easy to work with. Theron used a super firm HR50 foam to last long (the original ones were so thin, they flattened over time from the weight of heavy individuals). Theron was very flexible with fabric, he gave me the choice to choose from one of their samples or purchase my own elsewhere. Sonja sent me to the Design Center but I couldn't find anything fancy/old world. I needed something like Damask fabric for my elaborate chairs. I ended up purchasing from Ethan Allen. Once fabric arrived, scheduling was pretty quick and it took about 2 weeks for completion. My family said the chairs look FANTASTIC!! I highly recommend this shop, they are very professional and quotes are way better than anywhere else. I plan to take all my business to Manning's & Son.

Stopped by and showed it to Howard the owner, and even though he was short handed today, he said let me see what I can do and started working on it right on the spot. 30 or so minutes later of him carefully working on it, I had it back in my hands with no signs of damage and as good as new. Not only was he super nice and an expert at his craft, but he didn't even want to accept payment. I couldn't believe the gold of a person that he is. I will always remember and talk about my experience today to anyone I know and will never go anywhere else if I ever have any upholstery needs. Howard is a genuine angel.

Prices have always been fair. While he works on your chair (I asked -- he said one of thousands), ask him about being a musician -- opening for Toto, etc. The guy has lived an amazing life. The Seattle Times should be reaching out to him. Some of the stories he shared during the brief time it took him to fix my chair made me wish I knew more about his life. Today's visit made me wish my older Herman Miller chair broke down more often. Such an awesome guy!

Selling my condo so had to update both kitchen, bath and separate vanity cabinets and countertops…read more I went to all the usual companies for quotes (Sanyuan, GS, A1, Pius etc) and made a crazy spreadsheet comparing them. 1st Ave came in second cheapest (GS was the cheapest). I decided to go with 1st Ave because they were very responsive on the phone and email, and they were able to do the work faster than GS. I also really liked that the people at 1st Ave weren't pushy like at they were at some of the other companies. They came though with all they promised to do - called me when they were on the way to the job site, installed everything so all cabinets and drawers lined up and worked flawlessly, cut the quartz offsite and came back to install countertops, and cleaned up after themselves. I have been recommending them to friends and neighbours, and I would most definitely use them again.
