It has to feel good on your eyes and it's also fashion! I once made a mistake and went to LensCrafters. After waiting for a month for them to be ready, the lens was straining on my eyes and I had to return them. The salespeople could care less. That was quite frustrating to me. What a difference with Optical Choice! It's personalized and caters to your individual needs. Compared to big chains, Optimal has cheaper prices, BETTER quality, and very quick turn around. The owner, Peter, is highly knowledgeable and has a lot patience which I really appreciated. Honestly I was heading to Cohen Optical simply because they're a chain and I assumed it was a safe choice. Cohen's was closed so I came here, and it turned out to be a good choice. I received the personal care of a real family-run business. I got new lightweight lenses put in my sunglasses for $110, and it was done well. (In the past I've had bad experiences with new lenses, such as having dirty edges, or BS like opticians saying that the normal type of lens "won't fit" in my frames, etc.) Peter also adjusted the frames I was wearing on the spot when I came to pick up my sunglasses. When I voiced concern about the lens being heated (because in the past someone melted the coating on my lens!) he covered the lens with a towel while he heated the arm. I'd read the reviews for Optical Choice here on Yelp, so I figured it was worth while to check it out. The Short Version: helpful, professional, affordable, fast! The Long Version: I was LONG overdue to have my eyes checked and prescriptions updated. I wear glasses mostly, and disposable contacts sometimes. I wandered in on a Sunday afternoon, and Peter (the owner) was working. He was able to measure my old glasses prescription, and I'd also brought a pair of contacts with their prescription printed on the container. For a small shop, there was a pretty large selection. I looked at a lot on my own while Peter was helping someone else. Then we talked about what kind of frames I was looking for. He made suggestions that were really helpful and looked great on my face. He was more helpful than anyone else at any other opticial place has been! He really wanted to find me the perfect pair of frames! My contacts prescription falls right in the middle of two scripts. He took the time to explain the difference and try on both prescriptions to see which I liked better. I don't have vision insurance, so everything is 100% out-of-pocket. He worked with me on prices for the exam, frames, lenses and contacts. In the past, I would alternate between getting new glasses and new contacts ever year, but I was so overdue that I needed to do both. He made it work (even though I got expensive frames and lenses because of my active lifestyle). By Wednesday (three days later), everything was ready to be picked up. So fast! I just finished my contact lens exam here, and I just want to say I love this place. They are my favorite eye doctor (and I have been seeing different ones since I was 8 years old, yearly, and now I am 32!). I came here first last year for my glasses, which they did a great job on. They are honest, and they really care about you and try their best to please you. They help you find the best glasses/contact lenses that suits your needs. I know an eye doc is something you only need once in a while, but you need them, it needs to be good bc this is your vision we are talking about. Highly recommend them for your vision needs. Also they are right off the Kew Gardens, Union Tpke E, F train. They also are fast in getting your glasses and contacts ready for you which also makes me a happy customer. read more

Nothing like finding a great little store that suits your needs right in your neighborhood. I'm somewhat ashamed to say that for years I thought only the big chains (Lenscrafters) would have the selection that I needed, but Optical Choice had plenty of nice designer frames to choose from. Peter is great. Not a pushy salesman. This is an old school establishment so if you're looking for the high priced, over-rated optometrist, this is not the place. Every time I've had to call and reorder contacts or ask a question, Peter has always been helpful and polite. Decent selection of eyeglass frames and sunglasses. Unlike the other (scam) optical place in Jackson heights that I already wrote a review about, this place is a real deal! Peter (I think that's the name of the owner) is a real helpful guy and is very patient with his patients. He let me try several different types of contact lenses, so we know what fits best and makes me feel most comfortable. On top of that, the prices here are so much more reasonable. I've been going here for 8 years now and it's an excellent place. The proprietor Peter is usually around and very knowledgeable and been in the business a long time unlike the rookies you meet at the large chains. I honestly don't like the chain stores for my eyeglass needs as they turn out to be too expensive even after the discounts.
