I've been going to Optical Outlets for about 7 yrs between the Leesburg n Lady lake stores,today I got it really stuck up my ass w/o any lub from the Lady Lake store,I had my eye exam done n only wanted lenses(nothing wrong with my frames figured I would save the ins. company some money)but because I wasn't getting those over expensive frames they sell I was told they would have to charge me an extra $70 for some bogus made up fee,those frames they sell are maked up 200% only cost them about $25 across the board.I am done with this BULLSHIT place forever,there should be laws from companies like this.....my lenses cost me $410,just for lenses. I came here after using Optical Outlets in Pinellas for years with no issues. I don't understand how the doctor here got my eye glass prescription perfect but changed the brand of contacts that I use and get my prescription wildly wrong. They say they close at 6 but the last appt the doctor can do is 4pm? Make that make sense. I just moved here and started a new job so no, I can't make 4pm work. I cannot see whether it's from a distance or from far away. It's blurry. I have to put eye drops in every five minutes because the contacts brand this "doctor" switched me to dries out almost instantly. Will absolutely not come back. The doctor here is so rude and tried to gaslight me during the exam saying "hmm these images should look the same to you". Well bro, I'm looking at the images and no they don't look the same. Really should have read the reviews before going but my insurance only works in a few places, so I was hopeful. The exam and selection of glasses was fine, but the doctor had the door open during my exam so I guess privacy and HIPAA don't matter to them? I did ask for a specific filter to help with light-induced migraines and I feel like I was dismissed and given a generic blue light filter. I also asked for the glasses to be shipped to my house because this place was an hour away from me and I really didn't want to come back. I was told that was no problem, but when my glasses arrived to the shop, they told me I hadn't paid the shipping fee (that they never told me about or I would have paid it then) so I'm going to have to go all the way back to pick them up. I have zero confidence that the filters I asked for are on there and I will be asking for my patient record to be removed. I will NOT be going back. They sent me multiple appointment reminders and I drove 40 minutes for my appointment only to be told that the Dr was not in that day. My husband and I had a great experience as new patients. Our appointments were on time. The doctor listened and explained the changes in our prescriptions. Staff helped us choose and order new glasses, and explained what our insurance would cover. I went there for the first time for an annual exam which included an eye exam for glasses AND contacts. After getting the second part of the exam for the contacts, the office manager refused to give the prescription for my contacts unless I agreed to pay another $150 out of pocket. Not only did she refuse to give it to me, but she actually tossed the prescription paper in the trash right in front of me. I guessing she was mad that I wasn't going to purchase contacts from them, even though I DID purchase glasses from them. Right after I left, I called my insurance company and they assured me that the doctor was not allowed to withhold this information from me. They called the store on my behalf and asked them to release the results to me. A few minutes later I went back in and she finally gave me the paper with the prescription information with absolutely zero apologies. By the way, the actual "full eye exam" itself that the doctor gave me was the least thorough exam I've ever had in 25 years, taking less than 10 minutes. At this point I'm doubting its accuracy. They not only attempted to charge me more than my previous "out-of-pocket" eye service but appoints are at a minimum of over two weeks and then even after you've been seen for glasses, if they did not order your trail pair (though you used the same company with a similar prescription before) of contact lenses - you are looking at over one month for your lenses. REALLY??? No one was rude during my visit, yet, as I told the associate that my glasses where too expensive for my out-of-pocket (after Ins. payment) & so that I would get my lenses for much cheaper (definitely under the $200 charge) and I did...$120.00 with all the horns and whistles... When I arrived for my appointment the place was packed with customers. I tried to ask questions about their special and the gal at the desk appeared to be in la la land and was unsure about how to answer my questions. I finally took a seat and expected to be called to discuss what my needs were. That did not happen. So, needless to say, the doctor was irritated with me because I explained there was no staff available who could answer my questions about eye glasses and contacts. Not the nicest eye exam I have had . After my exam, I was given a trial pair of contacts and had a pair of frames I felt I wanted . The glasses were going to be over 450.00, I asked about the special frames they advertised. The young lady just pointed to "over there" and said but they are cheap plastic. I decided to just get my contacts. At that point I was told contacts were not covered and neither was my exam. I had just called my insurance and was given my usual 400.00 for glasses/contacts and my exam was covered at 100%. BUT, the staff still wouldnt let me order because " my insurance wouldnt pay for them" I asked for my rx and would go somewhere that knew what they were doing. I was not allowed to use my insurance for the exam and had to pay 69.00 to get my rx copy. My insurance personnal was furious about how this was handled as was I and my insurance is going to reimburse me for what I paid and is going to contact the manager at the office . Dr Karl Johannessen's exam went very well. I have no complaint about that. However, the young ladies selling contacts and eyeglasses are terrible. After the exam I sat with one and told her I would be getting my eyeglasses at another store. She asked if I wanted contacts. I told her I wear glasses all the time and only use contacts occasionally. She looked in her computer and told me I could get six months of contacts free. I asked if that was in addition to the glasses and she said yes. Except it wasn't. I went to the other store and found out I can get either/or but not both. I do wish there was an option for 2 1/2 stars...this place deserves more than 2 stars but less than 3. The place is very bare bones as far as appearance is concerned. It lends a very stark appearance that is not condusive to comfort. Everything is all open space and has a cafeteria type feel to it. There is no receptionist sitting at the front desk, at least there was not the entire time I was there. I stood at the the counter for quite awhile while no one acknowledged me. This surprised me because they seemed very friendly when I called to make my appointment. I finally noticed a sign-up sheet, signed it and sat down. I arrived 15 minutes ahead of my appointment time as I was instructed on the phone, since I was a new patient and needed to fill out paperwork. They were very busy with people having appointments for the doctor as well as people picking up glasses so I was taken about 20 minutes later than my scheduled appointment. The doctor was very good and took his time. I got a thorough eye exam and he spent quite a bit of time with me to insure I had the correct prescription. It got confusing when I left the exam room. All the doctor told me was "they'll take take care of you." I expected someone to come aroundand show me some frames. I sat down for awhile in the waiting area for people to see the doctor because I expected someone to come up to me with my prescription in hand to go over frame choices. After waiting a bit, I finally decided to get up and look at frames myself. They had 2 opposite wall filled with frames, but not much of a real choice. With few exception, the choices were fairly generic and there were very few designer choices. My husband was helping me pick out frames. Every frame was on the wall, but the frames themselves were not supported very sturdy at all. In fact, one time I felt as if i was playing some crazy game of Jenga because several frames came down at once when I tried to grab one as i was juggling others. Finally someone came up to help me and asked if I found any frames I liked. I told her that I saw a few but I could use her opinion. We went through several choices and were coming up empty. There just were not enough choices that I liked. While she was very helpful, she appeared as if she would rather be doing something else. However, I was very pleased that she went to the back to be able to opffer me more choices as the choices in the showroom had been exhausted. Ultimately, I ended up chosing a pair from the back. Glasses take 7-14 days to turn around. I have not received my glasses yet, but I will post a follow-up once i do. I have not gone to pick up my glasses yet, but when I do, I will write a follow-up. read more

I called to see if they accepted insurance for a contacts appointment. was told prior it would be $25. they then said after my exam they would be charging me an additional 79 dollars for fitting my contacts which weren't even my right prescription bc mine have to be ordered because I have an astigmatism. when I asked the doctor about being fitted for contacts that were not my prescription and the purpose or point of the fee or service he said "if you don't want my services you are free to leave" I asked again how I can be charged for a fitting for contacts that aren't my prescription. I'm giving it a 3 only because the staff and doctor are both very friendly and helpful. My appointment was at 11:45 and I was told to be there 15 minutes early. All my insurance and information was given to them a week before. I arrived 15 minutes early, I was given the paperwork to fill out, and sat there for about an hour. I actually had to approach somebody and ask if I'm supposed to turn the paperwork in or if they take it when I go in for the pre-check. They then took the paperwork and I sat there for at least another 20 minutes. By the time I actually left it was about 330 in the afternoon. They apologized and said that they were overbooked but I was watching people who came in after me leave before me. Nothing had been done about verifying my insurance or anything and that had to be done while I waited. All in all while the staff was very pleasant, it was very unorganized. read more

Very unprofessional place. Don't ever go there.. they have the worst insurance verifier.. had two bad experiences there.. the first one was in 2020 had vsp insurance through my employer at the time; and they seemed to never find or verified my insurance at the time..so I was turned away... now this year I have new insurance through eye med ...and decided to give them a try one more time since literally they are located 5 min from my home.. I made this appointment last week Monday, and especially asked them to verify yet again, so I won't waste my time like the last time.. needless to say they didn't, they text me to confirm my appt last week Friday, and sent reminder yesterday and today..I took the time off from work.. to arrived to a disorganized office and the same incompetent news that they do not accept my insurance.. then they gave me the option to pay in cash for my services and then obtain a refund through my insurance .. like anybody wants to do that? especially when you pay and have insurance...needless to say I would had not been so upset if they had the decency to let me know ahead of time before I wasted my gas, time and money.. I will never ever go back there again, regardless of any future insurance change... if they are so disorganized as they had been for the past two years and haven't done anything to correct this incompetency .. it will never change.. Just left the office in Leesburg being a dissatisfied customer,(ex now). Pdurchased 3 pair of percription glasses from them Jan of 2016. The pair of sun glasses were polizered and the coating developed bubbles on both lenses. I was told that because it had been over a year they would not replace the lenses under warranty. Told me they could see if they could get me a discount on new lenses. I told them no thank you we will be taking our business elsewhere in the future. I have worn glasses for over 30 years and have never had lenses do that.. poor quality and customer satisfaction didn't seem to matter to them. Buyer beware!!! read more

I agree with Barbara B. in previous interview. I have received my glasses and although I like my frames I have been back 4 times for adjustments. I don't think they know how to adjust glasses. The four times I have been in I have had 3 different workers readjust, and get the same results. They take the glasses to the back and come back and hand them to me and ask me how they feel....I said I'll give them a try and be back if the adjustment doesn't work. Well so far adjustments not working. Changed nose pads and still to tight. The last time I went in I had an issue and had to leave glasses because I found a scratch when she returned them to me after adjusting. :-( I know they were not scratched with I went in because I always clean lens and check them out. WHY... because I have " a no frame glasses" and I know from experience that you have to be careful with them or the lens can get a crack if to much pressure is put on them. Well worker was VERY adament that she did not scratch the lens. Manager agreed to replace lens :-) I also find for a business they need to dress appropriately. Example: Spaghetti string tops and dresses are not business like ! I don't find this Outlet very professional ! I will not be returning to this Optical Outlet. read more

Awful service eye doctor was a robot reading a manual. On top of the terrible service they got my perception wrong after waiting almost an entire month for my first set of glasses, and they had the audacity to tell me that I had to wear them for two weeks before I could get a re exam. I went back for the re exam less than a week later after having to argue with an employee because I could not see out of my glasses. I asked if my perception was wrong and just got excuses. Then waited another 3 weeks to receive my glasses. I've had my glasses for less than a week and they are already missing bolts and falling apart. These people have engaged in bait and switch with a disabled elderly person. Over the phone they said everything was 100% covered by 20/20 EyeCare Network through UHC Dual Complete Choice Health Insurance. They repeated this in person before the exam began. They then did a contact lens eye exam, then told me that the contacts are covered, but only for an additional $99 cash. When I said I would just take the prescription to another place, they said that the $99 only covered the prescription. I called UHC and requested a note that they were engaging in purposeful bait and switch, and that their contract with UHC should be revoked. At that point, they said that they would not even give me the covered eye glasses because I reported them. When I reminded them that the contact lens eye exam had already been completed, they stated that the record was "just going to disappear," and they would rewrite it as an eyeglass exam. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN ELDERLY PERSON, ON WHOM THEY ARE PREYING!!! read more
