To whom it may concern: I have been a Cabelvision/Optimum subscriber for several decades. On Friday, August 23, 2019 my cable, internet and phone service went out at approximately 9:00p.m. EST. I assumed that it was a standard outage due to the fact that there was a severe storm the day prior. After two days of no service on, Sunday, August 25, 2019 I decided to call the main office in order to request an update on my service restoration. It is unfortunate that a longtime customer should be required navigate through a mind field of convoluted instructions in order to finally speak with a human being. When I finally spoke with a representative who stated that the earliest a technician would be available was Tuesday, August 27, 2019. I stated this would be unacceptable because, not only had I been without service for several days prior, but I had an elderly relative in the home and landline service was imperative. The gentleman was able to schedule an appointment for Monday, August, 26, 2019. The caveat was that he could not give me a specific timeframe, only that the technician would be there sometime "tomorrow" and would call prior to their arrival. On Monday, August 26, 2019, I reached out to your customer service team between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. EST and spoke with a young lady named Sherry. I requested to get an estimated time of arrival for the technician because, not only did I have several meetings to attend, but I also had an elderly relative in the home and did not feel comfortable leaving them alone. She stated that because that the appointment was already set she would be unable to change the arrival time. I expressed that this was not acceptable because, as per the previous rep, if someone was not at home to acknowledge the technician, would be billed a service charge. She stated that the only thing she was capable of doing was either cancelling the call, or rescheduling it. She stated that she could reach out to the dispatch in order to have them update me as to when the technician was en route. I was happy to hear that but the fact of the matter was that she was incapable of giving me a more narrow timeframe as to when a tech would be at my home. She began to get frustrated when I expressed that these were not adequate options. At this time requested a supervisor which she clearly did not like. I asked for her employee identification, and her call center location. She stated that "as per company policy" she could not divulge that information. She placed me on hold for a few minutes and then returned statin that there was no supervisor available. At that point I requested to speak with her supervisors' superior. Not only did she say that she was "not allowed" to give me he his/her name when I requested it but I was immediately placed on hold again and then was advised that her supervisor was speaking with another customer and was not available at the time. I asked for his name (Joe) and was advised that it would be at least FOUR hours before he was able to speak with me. I advised that I was willing to hold. After being without service two days, another few hours was truly not an issue at that point. After, being put on hold three more times between, her not being able to reach her supervisor and me not accepting a call back she hung up on me after being on the phone for 33 MINUTES. At approximately 11:45 a.m. on the same day, I called your customer service AGAIN, had to maneuver me way through your labyrinth of options. I spoke to Lucas. I immediately requested to speak with a supervisor in order to discuss my previous experience. Lucas placed me on a brief hold; when he returned he stated that his supervisor, Adam, "was not in today". He placed me on hold again for approximately three minutes and advised that another supervisor named Julio, who later advised that his identification was JU5) was available. After another five minute hold, I spoke with Julio who was apologetic however was still unable to narrow down the timeframe from eight hours. I emphatically expressed that I needed to know the approximate time that the technician would be arriving. H again was only capable of stating that it would be "sometime before 8:00 p.m." He then proceeded to appease me with a credit of $17.95 per day worth of service based on my existing plan. For the record, I never asked for a credit in any way, shape form or fashion, all I wanted to know was when my technician would be arriving. I was beyond insulted. I'm shocked and appalled that he not only felt that this was a resolution to my issue. When I asked what call center he was located out of he stated the "NYC Call Center." I then requested to speak with his supervisor. He advised that it would take FOUR TO FORTY-EIGHT HOURS in order for someone to get back to me. So I just recently moved to the area about 6 months ago so I'm still new to cablevision/optimum. My only experience is really with Xfinity/Comcast, which has been an absolute nightmare. I will say that it's confusing when a company tries to rebrand while still keeping the old brand. When I first arrived to this building, I thought it was the wrong place because it didn't say "Optimum," but rather, "Cablevision." For some reason, my wifi router stopped working and the tech person I spoke with over the phone was useless. But they did tell me to come here and exchange my router. The process was painless. I came in midday on a weekday, there were about 5-7 people in front of me, and I was out in less than 15 minutes. They took my router and exchanged it for a new one, also providing me with a receipt as proof of the exchange, which is nice in case there are issues. Let's be real, errands like this are up there with going to the DMV, post office, etc. But, this was as painless as an annoying errand can be! read more

This particular location, essentially adjacent to the CA complex, does you no favors. Staff is neither standoff-ish nor rude but not particularly friendly. Signage out front is far from crystal clear, and the procession inside indicates it gets wild when busy, which I assume occurs during lunch time. On my visit, I was the only patron when I arrived and was helped immediately, but the folks who arrived behind me (all returning equipment) were left waiting while the 4 unoccupied staff members chit-chatted. The process of cutting the proverbial cord, while antiquated, was pretty painless. My one point of contention is that they kept the 4 batteries contained within 2 of the remotes we returned, lacking the courtesy to check despite us still being customers (one STB remaining) at that time - good inventory for their future customers, I guess. The mothership offers a service; one that can, should, and needs to be improved. Good riddance to a poor 'service' from shady overlords. read more

Recently moved and we continues our service because i have been a optimum customer for 20 years and all i have been dealing with is nonsense. Was told one price from Altice $182.95 including taxes and now i got a bill for $ 264.00 LIERS LIERS LIERS !!!! Not to mention when the tec came to do the instillation (which took 5 hours and he came with such an attitude and rude) he put 2 holes in my walls that were suppose to be repaired and i am still waiting 120 hours later for a supervisor to call me back. read more

I have phone, internet and television through Optimum for about 25 years with maybe a small laps in between. I know this comes as no surprise, but the support for their products has diminished to the point where they might as well send drones out with signs that read - "We don't do that anymore". My landline has been fractured by storm Ida. It works only if the 2 bases I own are directly plugged into the modem. This is not acceptable to me. The modem is in a guest room and I do not want guests disturbed by my messages and it is highly inconvenient. However, the tech that arrived at my home today informed me Optimum does not run lines and is not responsible for anything beyond the modem. I firmly asked him to "get out" and have since contacted someone who is a "phone guy". just having my say and advise all to get a degree in computer science to forgo cable companies. I have been a cable vision/optimum customer since 1999. 3 different homes. Optimum TV advertises $89.95 for tv, Internet, and phone with 6 months of movie channels. I only have tv and Internet and they charge me $190.00 for minimum service with 4 dvr boxes. Customer service reads off of a que card when talking to them. No matter which Cablevision/Optimum store I go to (split between Motor Pkwy (Hauppauge) and Jericho Tnpk (Huntington)), I'm treated like a person, not a client/customer, which, to me, is a good thing. They don't take personal/account info until it is necessary, such as if I need to change equipment or request a service call. They listen to my problem without interrupting, and do whatever it takes to get it solved. Sometimes, that takes a few seconds, sometimes much longer, but always for my benefit. The same is true with their phone customer service and chat, though, sometimes, I sit on the line or screen for an eternity before getting a human being (it has never taken longer than 3 minutes to get to in-person service). They seem genuinely interested and concerned about my problem. The only down side is that I have an intermittent internet outage that, despite my changing out all cords (power, ethernet, coax, etc), splitter, modem, and router (they exchange modems, routers, and splitters, but the customer is responsible for all cables and cords, but, for the record, I bought my own wi-fi router, because I wanted more working distance and channel capability), the problem won't go away, and a service call would cost $60. Since the recently exchanged modem restarts/reboots on its own (the old one did the same thing, but, Cablevision said it was out-of-date, so, it was worth the free exchange in hopes of solving the problem), we're living with it for now. My neighbors say they're not having any such problems, but, it may not happen when they're around or using it. Regardless, I am very happy with Cablevision/Optimum! [UPDATE 12/25/2016] About two months ago, we decided that we had enough with the intermittent internet outages, which went from occurring once a day to counting the seconds it actually worked (!), so, we bit the bullet and made the $60 service call. Long story short, it turned out that the cable going from the telephone pole, per se, to our house had been improperly connected using a "barrel connection" or something along those lines. The service guy remarked that he was amazed it lasted as long as it had (we estimate 15 years!), and he replaced the entire line. We haven't had a problem with it, since. And, since it was the fault of whoever installed it to begin with, we were not charged the $60 fee! He even cleaned our outside TV cable connections, installed a new co-ax switch box, and checked all our TVs and the modem and router. All told, he was there nearly two hours, and answered all my questions without being smarmy or patronizing. His supervisor dropped by, wanting to know why it was taking so long, and I told him what a great job the guy did. Out of sight of the super, I tipped him $10 for his patience and good work! read more

I was really surprised by my treatment when trying to switch to Cablevision. It started when I called to get instillation. First I had a hard time even making the appointment for the technician to my home. I had to talk to three different people just to order service. Then when the guy shows up, he was so rude that I ended up asking him to leave. Then when I went to set another appointment I got disconnected twice, and almost just gave up. Now I wish I had. After I finally set another appointment the guy that shows up barely spoke English and took over 4 hours to simply swap out my DirectTV box out and put theirs in. Then he had no idea how to teach me how to work the different functions. Then the DVR wasn't working. I spoke to his supervisor and he promised to send another tech. In stead of sending another tech the one that was there snuck out and drove away. Didn't have me sign any paperwork or anything. He left his garbage in Front of my tv. Finally after talking to 3 different people at tech support they finally got the DVR working but when I went to watch the first recording, the picture is blurry. So now DirectTV as lost my business and so has Cablevision. Guess I'm. Calling Dish network. read more

The entire optimum/cablevision service is pathetic! I've been a customer for over 35 years and seemingly this will be the last time I get burned by this horrendous outfit. Have been without service for 3 days, many calls to their "techs" to try and alleviate and fix the problem was futile and a waste of time. Informed that they would send a tech to the house, earliest appointment was in 3 days. Reluctantly accepted that. Tech shows up on assigned day. but failed to communicate that he was delayed. Shows an hour late after the time window assigned...without apology or explanation. After an hour my problems are still unresolved. I was told they need a "field tech to assess the problem. I was not given a date or time to expect this expert service. Just we'll be back sometime. So this is for you cablevision...........you and your double dipping corporate millionaires. IF you told me Optimum was a criminal enterprise I wouldn't be surprised. So I had intermitent/slow internet. After 1 1/12 hours on hold I get to a tech. He determines the router is bad and they only last a couple of years. So if that is true shouldn't Optimum maintain their equipment? Anyway I ask for a tech to come over and diagnosis and repair. I am paying for service protection. No, they refuse to send a tech. They will mail me a router that i have the pleasure of setting up. OK, fine, get it done, they tell me 10 days. That was on June 14th. I called several more times, begging for a solution, literally they could not care less, only telling me what they cannot do instead of what they can do. Now if is the 26th, no router, So I go pay for and install a new router. I need the internet to work, so I have no choice. In stalled, everything is working fine. I call again asking for refund of the service protection plan and lack of service. They credit me $40 for the lack of service. No refund for the service protection plan they refused to honor. Good at taking my money, not so good at doing what they get paid for. IT is not possible for them to provide worse customer service. Looking at Verizon now. read more

Beware of a major scam that Cablevision has been committing regarding "tech" repairs in your home. I had the service go out in one of my 5 boxes and they told me a tech would have to fix it.. okay... it will cost $80... pay once or add $10 to my bill in installments forever for bullshit service protection. Make my appointment, the guy never shows so went to optimum store and replaced the box... well whaddya know.. problem solved!! No house call needed anyway! But wait .....there's more.. the tech went to the wrong house on the original service call and now I am responsible for $80 service call that never happened!!! Get terrible customer service reps who read off a card that says it is unfair and they are sorry but the will not remove the charge! The tech reported he went to a White House with a brown door... I have a yellow house with a purple door! So.... they are telling me I owe this fee that is complete BS!! Optimum by Altice has unfair billing practices which now charges customers even when not rendering services. For instance I cancelled my service on the 2nd day after the billing cycle and found out that I will be charged to the end of the billing cycle. So in essence they are charging me for 4 weeks of service that I will not be receiving. I spoke to numerous customer support employees only to receive multiple answers to the same questions. I will have to pay approx.$180 dollars without any services rendered for the next 4 weeks. I feel this billing practice is unfair and doesn't seem legal to me. read more

giving 1 star only because there is no option to give negative stars. i bought a condo so I signed up for cable service and had an appointment to set up 2 cable boxes on 12/7. The technician showed up with only one cable box, and told me i would have to call and schedule another appointment for the second cable box. So i did that and had to argue on the phone for 45 minutes in order to not be charged an additional $60 service fee for the technician to come out here. Eventually i spoke to an understanding supervisor who waived the fee and scheduled the appointment for the second box. That was supposed to be today between 5pm-8pm. The technician never showed up and never called. I called customer service and the only thing they said was "oh. sorry. when do you want to reschedule for". Mind you i had to take a day off of work in order for optimum to come this evening, because like everyone else with cable, you need a full time job in order to afford their service. I asked to speak to a supervisor/manager. I was placed on hold for 30 minutes and then hung up on. I called back and was told there are no managers or supervisors available, and they can have someone call me back within 24 hours. what a terrible way to do business. on top of the RIDICULOUS prices they charge - advertising $65 a month for cable and internet. but the actual bill is over $120 - how do you advertise the price of something to be half what it actually is??? still waiting on that $100 amazon gift card they claim i'm supposed to get. wondering what the better business bureau can do about this? read more

Cablevision/Optimum charges high prices for old programming and poor quality. The TV schedule runs numerous channels televising shows from 40 years ago. Playing the same episodes over and over and over. They buy cheap old programs and charge high prices to you. They just dropped their laptop app and their TV-To-Go has limited stations. A waste. Their internet is fairly reliable but expensive. Spectrum in NYC where I used to live and Optimum are both owned by Comcast and even though Spectrum runs some old shows they still put Optimum to shame. Problem is there are no other cable companies and dish is too unreliable in a windy area. FIOS hasn't come to my area of Eastern Long Island yet or I would dump Cablevision/Optimum in a heartbeat. The FCC should be ashamed of themselves for allowing Cablevision/Optimum to charge the prices they do for the offerings they give that we have no choice but to swallow. read more

Their billing policies are criminal, and no one seems to be enforcing action against them. Have contacted FCC repeatedly. They do things like jack up prices by triple at the end of a "promotional period" even when I signed up I stated I didn't want a promotion, just give me internet with nothing else at a basic rate, no frills. When I contacted customer service (a total of six calls so far), each person quoted a different price, and someone even told me it was on record that I had called the previous month and requested a cable TV upgrade including sports channel. This was untrue...I only need internet and would never do that. When I contacted the FCC, I got a form letter from a representative saying they were "researching" and would get back to me, and that they had tried to contact me by phone but were unable to (also untrue). Nothing more from Optimum in 24 days, so I contacted FCC again, and got a repeat form letter, same statement that they had tried to contact me by phone. Basically, they do dishonest things and then make themselves unavailable, hoping you'll give up. Do yourself a favor and go with anyone else. read more

Last night 12/9, there was a tech on the pole outside my home, it appears that he was there to correct a problem in the area, or that's what the message we got when we called Cablevision. This wasn't the case, he created the problem, you see we have two line coming into our home, one upstairs and one downstairs, he disconnected the upstairs line. When we called to find out why we didn't have service, the tech on the phone (who by the day was very understanding) tried to walk my husband through troubleshooting. When they couldn't resolve the issue over the phone he told us that we would have to wait until Sunday 12/16 so a supervisor and a tech could reattach the disconnected cable. no supervisor available before then! What we were told is we would receive a credit for the week without cable! read more

The most horrible experience I have ever had with a service provider. Just from the beginning everything that could be screwed up was screwed up. Installer had install wrong hardware, installer left without completion installation (no WiFi was functioning). The very first email with billing the bottom line price was different from one in original order. They couldn't "register" the new router due to their company so called "outage" that lasted for 24 hours, but even after their cleaning their act my router still can't generate WiFi signal. I suspect that installer didn't do the right job by properly setting modem-router protocol parameters. Talking with the customer service of the company they instructed me to exchange the router at their store in Hauppauge. When there I asked the front line clerk to call his supervisor who was sitting in the front of me, but she refuse to see me. When installed the new router there was no effect- the system remained unoperationable. This is the status of today. Stay away from Optimum Cablevision. read more

About 7 years ago, after having about 50 Cablevision service calls at my house in 2 years (OK, perhaps that;s a bit of an exaggeration) as well as two union men from Cablevision having a fist-fight on my front lawn (that's true), I left Cablevision to move over to Verizon here on Long Island (actually I think it's based in NJ). FYI--I would never have DirectTV ... I don't want a satellite dish on my new roof & I hate having DirectTV at my timeshares ... the service always shuts off in the middle of a movie so you cannot see the end of it... even on a sunny day with no rainstorms! I liked Verizon for a long time until I got shifted onto FIOS. I lost my real "landline" (I didn't discover that until during a Nor'easter that hit here one winter ... I lost all services including my phone). Later, I ended up with a monthly bill exceeding $240/mo (which included a 19% employee discount!). When Verizon refused to lower it by as little as $15/mo, I felt I had no other option than to switch back to Cablevision/Optimum. I have to say that the newer services at Cablevision are not perfect, but this is a vast improvement over the "old Cablevision" and over what Verizon was charging me and how they treated me. I will NEVER return to Verizon after the horrible experience I had upon cancelling the FIOS account 2-3 yeas ago. Compared to the "old Cablevision", so far, I have had very few required service calls to resolve problems or issues. They can almost always fix things with a simple phone call. The main problem I am still having is with intermittent service interruptions and frequently having to re-boot the DVR set-top box. The system is easy to understand and to try to maintain. The Cablevision representatives and service technicians are almost always cordial and helpful. I just wish I did not get so many days of interrrupted service, and when I do, that Cablevision would provide me with some sort of minor compensation for the lost service time. I cannot fault them entirely re the latter issue, because twice before they have given me a partial month's credit for long service interruptions, esp. when they were first getting their new DVR boxes up and running last year. I am moving soon and I'll soon see if Cablevision is more reasonable about termination of their services than Verizon FIOS was some years ago. This time, I was not so stupid as to agree to "auto-pay" billing as I had with Verizon, so Cablevision cannot "hold me hostage" and try to charge me over $1,500 upon termination like Verizon did. Stay posted though ... I will be back here in a few weeks ... if Cablevision is unreasonable about my move. If I don't add another review here, then all went well with Cablevision! read more

Okay so I have there internet service. It is horrible. Sometimes it works well and some times I'd rather have dial up! The price starts out okay and then gets jacked up until you have this face @.@ when you look at your bill. As for cable it's all the same. Pay to watch hrs of commercials and minutes of tv. Yet I can watch all the same stuff for less and even free on the internet and uninterupted. Why should I pay all that money so you can fill my head with crap you wanna sell me? I might as well pay to stand in front of one of those big advert banners in the city while i'm at it. I hope streaming services take cable companies out of the equation. 5 minute programs get stretched into an hr-45 minutes by commercials. Anyways cablevision is garbage. Beware of salesmen from optimum, especially walking around in valley stream and lynbrook trying to get you to switch over from your existing cable. They will promise you anything to sign you up and then don't deliver what they say. We had a bad experience with one man. His offer at first was too high. Then he came back a week later with a better price for the package we wanted. He knew what we were paying for fios and offered us a better price if we switched. Everything looked on the up and up. When we signed the contract the price was right and everything else looked good. when I checked the contract that was emailed to me the wrong package was checked. This representative lied to us to get us to sign up and optimum stood behind him. The customer is never write with them. Beware of these salesmen. I wouldn't even give them a rating. One star because I had to give it something. I had triple play from cablevision for years, without to many issues. Heaven help you when you cancel though. I moved to florida the end of may and cancelled everything, or so I thought. In june I realized they did not take a final payment (I had auto bill set up with them). I called and was told I had to mail it that auto bill stopped when I closed the account. In July I was billed twice for the final bill, after I had already mailed the payment and the check was cashed. I won't bore you with the details of the many phone calls and having to speak to a supervisor each time and getting different answers every time. One time, "oh they must have billed the two months" this after the account was cancelled. I was promised credit for both transactions and received one. I finally had to dispute it with my cc company to hopefully get the second refund. This month I was billed for web hosting, which I thought was cancelled with everything else. After speaking to two people they finally cancelled the web hosting, but expect me to pay for the year hosting fee. If I'm paying for a year anyway, why would I cancel now. When I asked why it wasn't cancelled with the account I was told that I needed to call this other company to cancel. When I asked for a refund I was told the payment went to a different company and they could not credit me. So another dispute through my cc. One person has no idea what the other is doing, they don't care and they tell you whatever lie they think you will listen to. I am so glad to be done with Cablevision! I think.
