Simply wonderful. It starts with the trendy downtown location underneath one of the newest high rise condos, but don't let that fool you. The selection is one of the most varied (and affordable) in all of Austin. What can I say? Dr. Rhodes is highly competent and informative. She has some sort of gizmo that replaces having to get those eye drops. She will tell you that your vision plan doesn't cover it, but it's only $30, and it's really kinda cool, and you don't have to wear those atrocious wraparound shades on the way home. Ashley, the sales manager, is as helpful as can be. After I got my contact lenses, I brought my teenage daughter and you know how awful they can be shopping for clothes or accessories. Well Ashley managed to convince this teenzilla that she made exactly the right choice. You will not find better service anywhere in Austin, whether you are buying glasses, shoes, or enjoying a family meal. Both ladies are helpful, friendly, courteous without being pushy "upsellers". Dr. Rhodes was extremely helpful and informative, being the only eye doctor who seemed willing to take the time to answer any and all questions I had regarding the condition of my eyes and what I should continue to expect and look out for. Ashley was fantastic and communicative throughout the process, finding a sooner appointment time for me after they experienced a big jump in appointments with the Groupon. I found some great frames, and feel like the value was good (although not cheap). I would heartily recommend this business to anyone! I had a great experience at Optique. Their staff is so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I didn't purchase eye glasses from them however I ordered a pair online and Ashley provided me with my prescription as soon as I asked her for it. She was very helpful in ordering my contact lenses and making sure that the ones I ordered worked well for me. They have a great selection of sunglasses and I just received an email telling me I can take $25 off because my birthday month is April so that is really exciting! I was in the market for a good eye doctor and yelped the Austin and Round Rock areas for one. I have to agree with everyone else that wrote a review for Optique!! EXCELLENT!! The reviews were so promising and after calling to talk with Ashley to set up an appointment for myself and my daughter, I managed to talk my friend into getting an exam also! We were all very impressed with Dr. Rhodes and Ms. Kleine. Dr. Rhodes and Ashley Kleine were pleasant, easy going, and extremely efficient! Both were very familiar with insurance plans and the options covered. At no point at all was I ever pressured into add-ons for my daughter's glasses. Ashley was very patient with the whole ordering process. (If you've shopped with a teenager before...you know exactly what I mean! HA!) Location was convenient and very easy to find. I have a new prescription and I've been shopping for new frames so I have stopped at Optique twice in the last few weeks. It's a very convenient location for people who work downtown. The first time I was greeted by someone in a rather chilly manner; the second time I was not greeted at all. (Though I saw at least three employees there.) The selection of well-made and stylish frames is excellent. But prices are nowhere to be found. So if a customer can't even get someone to say hello, how can a customer get pricing? if i could give this business less than a 1 star rating i would absolutely do so. my husband has been coming here for a few years and i've gone twice. when i went in for my annual eye exam they ended up charging us for an eye exam and a contact lense fitting even though neither of us have changed contact brands let alone prescriptions in years. next, when we were checking out katrina double charged us and we had to go back to fix the issue. NEXT, katrina never ordered my supply of contacts and i had to come back 2 weeks later to figure out what was going on. the lady told me that katrina never ordered my contacts and that she would try to locate some and call me in the morning. fast forward to the next day and i haven't received any calls or emails and had to go out of my way to call again. HORRRRRIBLE customer service. didn't think the eye doctors were super warm or polite. & to top it all off, i never got an apology during any one of these interactions. read more

This was one of the most uptight and rude eyeglass places I have been to, I walked in and there was no sales girl. When I finally found her, she gave me the Im better than you up and down look, and then ignored me. I had heard the store was a high end boutique with beautiful eye wear. The people here are really nice, all the equipment is brand new and I think its really neat that as a doctor's office they've gone paperless (even the forms you fill out are with dry erase markers). But sometimes in going paperIess things get lost in translation and my prescription got screwed up. I'd already ordered contacts so I was stuck with a box of contacts that didn't work. I lost my glasses while tubing the Comal river on vacation in Central Texas. After a friend dropped me off downtown early in the morning, I ambled half-blind to the nearest optometrist, asking the occasional passerby to read the street signs for me. I got to Optique a half hour before they opened, but could see someone already inside. I was glad to wait, but went ahead and called to see if I could get an appointment. I explained my situation to the person I spoke to on the phone, and she immediately let me in, despite not being open. They did not have any appointments available all day, and getting new glasses would take several days, so she offered me directions to a few competitors who might have better availability. She also mentioned that she might have contacts in stock that would fit me, if I had a prescription. I called back home to my DC optician, who faxed over an expired prescription. Within minutes, I had two new pairs of contacts and a solution/case kit, and I was just $20 poorer for it. The best part, of course, is that I had my vision restored in so short a time, so the rest of my day wasn't shot. I was extremely impressed by the kindness and level of service I received. I mean, opening up early and going out of their way to help me with something that barely brought in any money for them shows where their priorities lie. I don't live in Austin, and I'm very sorry that I won't be able to bring them my own business anymore, but those of you who live around here really should. They're awesome! read more

I'm fairly new to the whole glasses thing, but I have three primary criteria that I look for in an eye doctor: affordability, great frames, and seeing better when I walk out with my new specs. 1) Affordability: check. Due to the hip downtown office, I expected Optique to be overpriced. It wasn't. They worked with our insurance and didn't give us the run-around about add-ons. Dr. Rhodes also didn't give me a hard time about the fact that I am in grad school and didn't want to spring for the screening tests that weren't covered by my insurance. 2) Great frames: check. A good selection of frames, lots of variety, and stylish frames at every price point. 3) Seeing better when you walk out with new glasses: check. At our last eye doctor, my husband felt like he was way under-prescribed. After leaving Optique with our new glasses, we both couldn't stop marveling at all the things we could actually now see. I found this gem while searching literally every eye shop in Austin for high quality, professional looking frames. While I am all for the "eclectic" Austin look, I unfortunately don't work in a setting where that would be appropriate. Also, a lot of the shops around here offer lower quality glasses priced like high end frames. Opened recently, Optique had just what I was looking for. They offer a wide range of high quality frames at varying prices. If you are in the market for really expensive fashionable glasses, they have those too but don't let the austere, minimalist interior fool you: they offer plenty of lower priced but top quality frames too. Dr. Rhodes (Courtney) and her staff of one do a terrific job - very friendly and attentive. This is a homegrown, local Austin business (which is the best kind). Dr. Rhodes was born in Austin, attended UT, and did her internships here. She is highly competent and very personable. What I most liked is that I never felt pressured to buy a pair of frames and, in fact, they steered me away from a pair of expensive glasses and towards some less expensive frames that they thought were comparable. The service was great, the frames are perfect, and they even through in a free cleaner fluid and cloth. If you are looking for a great selection of frames, fast / friendly / pressure free service, and to support the local economy: you can't go wrong with Optique. Having avoided the eye doctor for almost 7 years since my last visit ended in a failed, 3-hr attempt to get contacts in my eyes, I was a bit nervous to make an appointment. I came across the Optomap site and was excited that in those years, a technology that possibly removed the need for dilation had come about. I narrowed down doctors based on who had this and who received the best reviews; Optique won. While my initial booking inquiry via their site received no response, when I called to schedule instead the desk associate was very apologetic and explained that sometimes they don't receive the inquiries. My appointment was a breeze. The various pre-exam machines are lined up logically and the optician running them was very efficient. Dr. Raley saw me and was equally efficient and personable. As my last eye doctor didn't attempt to make much conversation and ignored my discomforts, I was pleasantly surprised and a new bar has been set! I would have never guessed she recently graduated from optometry school - she was very professional in answering my questions and moving through the exam. Kristy came to get me at the end of my exam to look at frames. She seemed to be cognizant of the time crunch I had and whirled around finding different frames based on what I yayed or nayed. Ultimately she helped me find a pair that wasn't out on display that came in way under what I expected to pay and which met a vision I've had for awhile for a second pair. She explained the pros and cons of a new lens technology but was not pushy about me opting for it; I went with the same material my current glasses have and am comfortable with. I have horrible vision and usually kind of dread eye doctor apts. In the past I've had very pessimistic doctors who are just like "here have fun with your ill-fitting contacts and coke-bottle glasses". Optique was a breath of fresh air. The staff is incredibly kind, the ladies who help with glasses are very informed and VERY patient, haha! There's lots of great stuff to choose from. The doctor I saw, Dr.Z, was also kind and to the point. The whole appointment was very quick (although not rushed, just efficient) and informative. The office is beautiful - albeit a bit tricky to find - and everything seems clean, up-to-date and well cared for.
