She would answer "mhhm I dont know" and as I was moving forward to give her my information she cut me off saying "you're not ready... mhhmm you're not ready at all." Mixed Experience - Great Optometrist, But Beware of the guy at the billing. Major Billing Issues! I want to start by saying the optometrist Dr. Babayan, was absolutely wonderful. He was extremely kind, patient, and took his time making sure I was fitted with the right lenses. You could really tell he cared and wanted to get things just right. He made the experience during the exam itself a positive one. And I loved coming to see him! Also, the front desk, specifically the young woman who helped with appointments, was excellent--very organized, polite, and efficient. When I needed to reschedule, she was incredibly understanding and even called me as soon as a same-day slot opened up. That kind of attentiveness is rare and appreciated. However, I need to warn others about the billing process. Unfortunately, my experience with the man handling billing was extremely disappointing. He was rude, condescending, and lacked basic communication skills. He didn't clearly explain how my insurance worked or what my costs would be upfront. I had questions about the difference between costs for lenses vs. glasses, and instead of walking me through it, he was argumentative, condescending and just plain rude. When I tried to explain my confusion, his response was, "Well, I wish you would've known what you want," which I can't know if I don't know the price difference how much anything is going to cost. I will make my choice based on the price. Which he wasn't willing to give me. What's worse is that they had my insurance information but still didn't provide a breakdown of expected costs until after the exam. If I had known what my copayments and options were ahead of time, I would have made different choices. I left without purchasing anything simply because I didn't feel comfortable or respected. Oh, by the way, they still charge me for a $90 exam. I want to be very clear: the optometrist himself is excellent, and if your experience only involved him and the front desk lady, you'd likely leave happy. But make sure to ask for detailed billing and insurance information in advance, or you may end up feeling blindsided like I did. I value transparency, especially when it comes to medical expenses, and unfortunately, that was sorely lacking from the billing side of this office. read more

He saw me BEFORE my actual appointment time today and was super friendly and knew exactly how to help me! Very professional and yet as down to earth as he could be! I had an absolutely amazing experience!! Dr. Andrew Babayan and his team (Patrick and Maria) are so kind and go out of their way to make you feel like the most valuable patient and customer. The old days of having eye drops that sting so they can dilate your eyes is over. My exam was easy, breezy and wonderful. Maria will have you sit at two machines and asked if you would like third machine (which insurance doesn't cover) to take color photos of your eye health. This test can tell the doctor greater details about potential eye issues to be aware of. They advise doing this test every two years. It was only an additional $30 and it was more than worth it for peace of mind. Dr. Babayan is so patient, knowledgeable, kind and easily explained my results so that a lay person could understand medical terms. After he finishes your eye exam, you will meet with Patrick and he is an angel. This office really understands how to make people feel fantastic. So I've gone to my optometry place in San Gabriel for at least 15 years, but since I've moved to North Hollywood, I've had to find new doctors. This place was covered on my plan and it was nearby. I called and made an appointment for a Saturday at 10:15. Got there, found parking on the street. I was greeted when I came in - staff is very friendly and nice. They asked for my current glasses and put it through a machine. One thing I do not like is that they still do that glacuoma test where they shoot puffs of airs in your eyes. The doctor tested my eyes and luckily it's stayed fairly the same after two years. Patrick helped me after and he was super nice and funny. I picked out some frames and he gave me a pretty good deal. I called because I needed to have my eye checked immediately due to an emergency and they were so amazing! I typically come here to get my eye exam done yearly but, since I didn't have an appointment, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to be seen. Sure enough after my phone call I was 10 minutes through the door. Dr. Babayan is absolutely amazing. He's very detailed and very calming. He answered all of my questions and gave me the best advice for my situation. The gentleman at the front desk who I spoke to is very humorous, and I'm very grateful for him getting me an appointment. Horrible service by the woman answering the phone! I was a new patient and it was nice at the beginning when I had ordered glasses from here, but I started to notice that I was getting a mild headache so I stopped using them. I decided to call back to ask if I can take out the prescription on them and just have them as regular sunglasses since I don't use, wear, or have been prescribed prescription glasses before (my eye doctor has shown me to have 20/20 vision so this was a bit odd). But as soon as I call, I am met with a kind of rude attitude. I had simply called to ask if I could take the prescription off my lens and switch the lens, but the woman on the phone gave me a condescending response that caught me off guard. She said they could not replace them, that I would have to wear them for two weeks and when I, again, let her know that they were causing discomfort and headaches, she had them asked if I paid for them or if I was covered by my insurance. Towards the end of the conversation, when I felt like the snappy and rude tone was enough, I had let her know that I was unappreciative of this conversation and that I was just trying to get some help with my lenses. She immediately changed her attitude and tone to be helpful, but at that point, I said to have a nice day and hung up , I was just trying to get some help . The process with optometry eye care centre from start to finish was immaculate. From booking my eye exam appointment to picking up my glasses. They are quick to pick up the phone, have an automated text messaging system reminding you of your eye exam appointment and order pick up notifications and you feel like family as soon as you enter the center. The eye exam itself was thorough, relatively quick and when it came to picking out a frame for my glasses I didn't feel rushed. If anything, the staff were super and overly helpful in the best way. This place removes many negative google reviews!!! The fact my initial review was removed on google shows how shady this place operates. My experience with Optometry Eye Care Center was terrible. Patrick who was supposed to correctly align the axis points for where the prescription was going to go didnt do it right. so it caused a significant inconvenience to me not only having me to go back for correction but many excuses and inconsistencies were made during my long wait for the correction. The efforts made at this place lacks urgency and understanding. The owner responded to my first review and only acknowledging why they had closed for a few days due to the fire but had no response as to why my glasses were incorrectly done in the first place. The first impression is this very "friendly" atmosphere but loses focus on the priorities of true eye care. To many potential customers who are considering this place, be aware there is a chance you will encounter a problem with this company. I'm an RN House Manager for a nearby residential facility for persons with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. I called a few minutes ago to find out if this facility was accepting new patients. An employee who answered the phone stated they were and as I was explaining that this appointment would be for a person who is wheelchair bound, the employee cut me off to say that they 'didn't have a special chair' required for the exam. When I asked for clarification, they then stated that the wheelchair would not fit through the door. When I apologized as I specifically researched providers that were wheelchair accessible online, she then said that they would not be able to 'do the exam required before seeing the Dr'. As I then explained that I was trying to say, when I first called, that all we would need is a visual exam and not an acuity exam she rudely cut me off AGAIN with an annoyed/rude tone saying, "OK. OK. Just give me her ID number because we're just wasting time here." I told her "Actually, never mind. I don't think we want to go there. That was extremely rude and unprofessional." And she said "OK. That's fine." I hope the Doctor sees this review. It is difficult enough to find places that are inclusive and are willing to provide people with disabilities the quality care they need and deserve but to have people like this employee treat us like we are just a bother or an inconvenience is extremely disheartening. read more
