Once again - I have to say Dr. Reingold has literally changed my life with the successful cataract…read moresurgery he did on my eyes a year and a half ago. The staff here is friendly and cooperative and have been with Dr.Reingold for a long time which is always a good sign on how they are being treated The eye center is awesome with friendly and expert optometrists who keep current styles in stock. I recently visited this office after being advised to follow up with an ophthalmologist due to a…read morescratched cornea. During my initial visit, LASIK was recommended, so I scheduled what I understood would be a consultation to see if I qualified. When I arrived, there seemed to be some confusion about the purpose of my appointment. I was told it was for a contact lens/eye exam, and even after explaining that I was there *specifically* for a LASIK consultation, I still ended up receiving a standard eye exam (I think? They didn't tell me anything lol, you'll see as I explain further). I may not fully understand how LASIK consultations are typically conducted, but there was very little communication throughout the visit about what was being done or why. One of the more frustrating parts of my experience was that I was not informed at any point--either before the appointment or during the visit--that my eyes would be dilated. I am legally blind and have been getting my eyes checked since I was a child (nearly 20 years) and I have not gotten my eyes dilated since I was a kid! When the drops were given, no one explained what they were or that they would dilate my eyes. I only realized this after my eyes became extremely sensitive to light and I got semi dizzy that I had to ask what was happening. There was also no guidance provided on what to expect afterward or how long the effects would last. Because of this, I was completely unprepared; I didn't have sunglasses and still needed to drive home. I was only given sunglasses after I specifically asked. So bizarre. I feel like regardless if this is common or not, this should be something communicated during the process... I also wouldn't have myself if I knew they were gonna dilate my eyes. After all of that, I still didn't receive much information about LASIK itself. I had to ask whether I even qualified, and the answer was given very casually without much explanation. If it weren't for me asking questions, I would've been given 0 information. Overall, the main issue was the lack of communication. I left feeling confused, unprepared, and not prioritized as a patient. While the office itself is clean and the staff wasn't unfriendly, clearer communication and better guidance throughout the process would have made a significant difference. Them sneaking in an eye exam on top of the "free" consultation, felt like they were just trying to make some money. For anyone considering this office, I would recommend coming prepared with questions and advocating for clear explanations during your visit. Otherwise, you're given nothing.

The entire office staff was friendly and supportive. My appointment was at 11:30. I arrived at 11:08 and was seen at 11:20 (after filling out new patient paperwork). I drove away at 12:30 PM. The total cost of parking for that time was $10.80 (not the $20-$30 mentioned on other reviews). I have to give a special shout out to Thomas for his compassion, understanding, and creativity. I had a bit of an anxiety attack regarding one procedure and he navigated me through it beautifully. I saw Dr Rahhal, who was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. After the examination, he explained the diagnosis and the future plan clearly and succinctly. I would highly recommend him to anyone having potential issues with their eyes/retinas.

Which means I wear glasses that help with my distance, intermediate and reading. Talk about costing an arm and a leg. So, I finally made the decision that Lasik was what I needed to do. After discussing it with my optometrist, we decided that going with an intermediate Lasik approach would be the best option for me.. while the optometrist at Dr. Berg's office suggested that a better option would either be monovision (one eye for near and one for far) or correct my near vision, as I am in Abbott reader. But I decided to stick with the intermediate I had discussed with my optometrist. My original surgery day was back in February. I will say they got me exactly where I wanted them to have me.. and just like they said it definitely was not working for me. I reached back out to them to let them know that I wasn't happy with my selection. The staff was absolutely amazing. They helped me navigate this new reality and gave me what my options were. After discussing it with their optometrist once again we decided to go ahead and correct me for full distance meaning I will now only need glasses for reading. I am one week postop and I am truly enjoying this so much better than what I had originally selected. Dr Berg has been extremely patient and kind and understanding of all my feelings and emotions and my over analysis of everything that has to do with my eyes. Katy in the laser department is a dream. She not only answered my questions, but she also made me feel heard and absolutely seen. She sat there and discussed what was coming next, she made me feel confident in my decision and I am so grateful that she took that time out of her busy schedule to sit down and talk to me.. The staff is fantastic. They are all extremely friendly and kind. Nadine was a complete pleasure to work with and was always there to answer any questions I might have post surgery.. I highly recommend Dr. Berg and his entire practice for any and all of your LASIK needs.

I used to go to the Burbank location and they were always amazing. Unfortunately, my recent…read moreexperience at the Sherman Oaks location was the complete opposite. I went in for a diabetic eye check-up and eye exam. On the day, everything seemed to go perfectly well. I had the examination, paid my copay and left. The only thing I did was forget to take my prescription with me. When I called afterward to simply get the prescription I had already been examined and tested for, I was absolutely stunned to be told that I would need to make ANOTHER appointment. So let me get this straight: I already had the eye exam, they already determined my prescription, and presumably they already had that information on file -- but to actually get it, I was expected to come back, have another appointment, pay another copay AND pay again for something that should have been provided after the original examination? How is that remotely reasonable? What makes it even more infuriating is that my prescription hasn't changed in many, many years. I wasn't asking them to perform some new service. I was asking for the prescription from the examination I'd already had and paid for. It honestly felt like an attempt to squeeze another appointment and another payment out of a patient for absolutely no good reason. Whether that was actually the intention or not, that's certainly how it came across. I had such good experiences at the Burbank location, which makes this even more disappointing. But after this experience with Sherman Oaks, I won't be going back. Patients shouldn't feel like they're being nickel-and-dimed just to receive the results of an examination they've already paid for. Really poor way to do business.

It started off a little meh for me as there is only street parking and as I am disabled, the walk was a little hard for me. BUT the service totally made the walk worthwhile. I did pay extra for the eye X-ray thingie but that was so much better than getting my eyes dilated. I'm diabetic as well and I have to get my eyes checked yearly to ensure that my eyes are ok. This was a much easier exam than getting the dilation. Much easier and much safer for me. Then I got taken to the back and the optometrist was great as well. She recommended some things and talked with me about some other issues as well. She also told me that the pores on my eye lids were getting gunky and to start doing warm eye compresses at night and it has been helping. Then the nicest very helpful lady... I wished I had gotten her name... Helped me to find new glasses. She was so helpful in bringing glasses to me and looking up colors for me and just being overall extremely helpful. Normally I'm used to being told, go and look and see what glasses you like... Instead here, she assisted me with everything which was very much appreciated. Overall, the parking sucked but I guess that's LA.... Lol BUT the service was amazing and I think I might've finally found my permanent optometrist!!

My experience was similar as last time. They are not transparent with the fees they charge you until after you swipe your credit card. I booked an appointment over the phone and was told that my eye exam is $30 along with a $75 contacts fitting fee. My insurance covers my eye exam, so I should only be charged $75. This additional retinal exam was not clarified over the phone. If this were to be clear, then I would have opted out because I have no need for this. I was overcharged. I called AND texted to make things right and they come up with excuses that I signed a form that I never did sign and that they did call me. Transparency is this office's biggest weakness. As a patient here, you're simply a paying customer who's only valued for your business versus your overall wellbeing.

I've always had good insurance and have made the most of it, but I find myself without insurance for the first time in ages, and let me tell you -- the main front office lady turned a warm conversation into a cold, belittling, and smug interaction so quickly that I am taking my cash business elsewhere and will refrain from recommending them, as I have for years to my extensive network. This is not a knock on the quality of Dr. Sloan's care but a critique of his front office. Here's the play-by-play: I called to inquire about an appointment for myself. I needed to see if they accepted Medi-Cal and, if not, how much the cash price would be. I am prioritizing continuation of care, as I have suffered from retinal detachments in the past and my eyes require added expertise. At first, I was speaking with someone who was very kind and understanding. She quoted a cash price in the ballpark of $125. That was doable for me, so I proceeded to schedule an appointment. Then she ran my Medi-Cal number to see if there were any benefits, because I cannot afford new frames and wanted to replace the lenses in my existing frames. Fine. All of a sudden, the call dropped. So I called back, and the lead front desk woman answered the phone. I asked to be reconnected with her colleague who was helping me, but she said they were all with other customers. I explained that I was the one one of them was on the line with, and she asked what it was regarding. I let her know that they were running my Medi-Cal number. She asked about different Medi-Cal plans, and I let her know that I am on straight Medi-Cal, to which she promptly and snidely replied, "We don't accept straight Medi-Cal." So I said that's fine, I can pay cash. Then she raised the price to $175, and added that it would be another $39 if I add retinal scans, and if I want contact lenses, that's another charge and another appointment all together. I hadn't even asked about contacts. . . Now, I can't prove that she hung her colleague's phone up on me while we were talking, but now I start to suspect it. Look - I expected to pay cash. What immediately turned me off was not even the convenient cash price increase -- it was her attitude: haughty, condescending, brusque, and entitled. (She is also usually very pushy about selling new frames. Not anything I was originally annoyed by, but something my husband hates about going there.) On top of treating me as an unwanted and unwelcome patient, she belittled her colleague as "new" and said that's why I was given incorrect information. Absolutely no decorum or emotional intelligence. She just threw the woman under the bus. The correct move would have been to say that there was a new price sheet, or something to that effect -- NOT to undermine her colleague. I know that we've ALL experienced front desks with subpar customer service, but her immediate dismissiveness toward a good-paying patient who has brought an entire family and other good clients to their practice is beyond the pale. For the record, I have Medi-Cal because I am recovering from cancer. I didn't mention that on the phone, because no citizen owes anyone an explanation for their coverage -- we all pay into Medi-Cal. There are widespread layoffs occurring throughout Los Angeles. They ARE going to experience an increase in cash customers. I will not be made to feel less-than for not having insurance in this moment, and I don't want anyone in need of good care to be treated with such prejudice. I think retraining is needed -- learning to have respect not only for her colleagues but for her fellow citizens. Not to mention compassion. Compassion in healthcare seems appropriate. We will be taking our business and recommendations elsewhere.
