Very Limited Physician Resources for Medicare Advantage customer service. Need a dermatologist? They have one in Eastern LA County and he is........unsatisfactory. Need another specialty? Rest assured you will wait weeks to get an appointment. Have had this coverage thru various brokers for several years. HoweveR they do have some great physicians-/ you just never know when you'll get one of them. I collapsed on a plane followed by ER appt. and wanted a follow up appointment soon after with MD--no call back. I needed a referral for colposcopy--instead got a referral to a dematologist (?). This was the last straw. They cancelled my appointment for next week and never notified me. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't gone for my bloodwork, which they had no orders for either. I was told there would be orders there. I would have taken time off work without pay since I am new to the job. This is totally unacceptable. Then they reschedule my appointment supposedly for the same day but later in the day, so I don't have to miss work, and I saw they entered it for the wrong day. I cancelled and will not be going back there. I will try another office. I don't expect much difference though, since Optum took over, it really went downhill in patient care. Takes forever to get an appointment months in advance, then they cancel without notice. I definitely will be looking for other options for medical care when open enrollment comes. This is a review for the way the office is run, NOT the doctors. I have been with Optum for over a decade since it was Healthcare Partners, which was run much better and more efficient. The patient service, or lack thereof, seems to be getting worse every year. I have been trying to make a pre-surgery appointment with my primary and I get nowhere. I get stuck in the transfer loop with the phone service people because no one is answering the phones at the doctors office and I get routed back to the operators every time I am transferred. Since this is a pre-opt request, it is time sensitive, but appointments are hard to get timely and I can't get a live person to schedule it. This is really the last straw, and even though I really do like my doctor, I've decide to finally find another medical group that is more efficient. I also had a billing issue and no one seemed to be able to address it after multiple, multiple calls, not the Optum billing people who blamed the doctor's office for not responding, and the doctor's office people who didn't seem to know what was needed and did nothing. If you can't even get an appointment for your medical needs and get a billing issue resolved, I think it's time to leave. Worst place ever! Doctors lack knowledge in their practice . It's always a waste of time and a waste of taking time off work! No concern in how much pain you are in -and no explanations on why it happened and how to prevent. When you can diagnose yourself before the doctor could ,then you it's bad. I love the doctors at Optum Arcadia...that is if you can reach them by phone. Almost impossible to get someone at their office. It doesn't matter what day of the week you call. I have to verify something with my doctor from my last appointment and the operator "cannot take in a message for me or have his office call me back." All they can do is loop me again at the Arcadia office which is useless because I get looped back in the patient support that cannot answer specific questions. For 3 days I've been trying, waiting for at least 45 mins to an hour at a time. It's Friday...I give up! read more

This specific location has the very worst staff I have ever had to deal with!! My Dr was in transition to retire and moved his patients to another Dr at this location. I called 7 different times within a weeks time and even spoke to 2 staff supervisors requesting an old refill. My pharmacy informed me daily they never recieved a thing when everyone I spoke to at Optum swore up and down they did their job. I have decided if I have to deal with this many incompetent staff members and I still never even get what I need in the end that I will find another Dr. But I am not the only victim to the insanity and negligence of this office. My mother who is suffering a brain tumor has been in tears for days due to what this office has put her through!! I took her to Optum (since she is not able to drive at this time) to sign off for her records to be sent to another Dr. This was over a month ago. She went in person and the woman she sat down with told her she would make a cd rom and have it sent to her new Dr who happens to be in the same damn town!! Here we are a month later and my mom is ready to see this new Dr tomorrow morning and their office has NEVER recieved a thing!! And my mom has been on the phone with Optum at least 4 times since yesterday. Now they are telling MY mom... THE PATIENT.. that SHE needs to call LA county and request this cd rom copy because her patient file is TOO BIG!! Have you ever heard of such crap? Good thing my uncle works for ABC news. I just waited 50 minutes to be seen by the doctor for 5 minutes. When I asked why it was taking so long the clerk's at the front desk said it was because they were backed up and the nurse should call me any time. Only to find out by the doctor that they thought I had canceled my appointment because the clerk's never checked me in. When I went back to the clerk's I was told that it was the nurses fault. Either way it seems that no one in this office has any idea what is going on, no one offered an apology other than the doctor who apologized because it was late and he wanted to go home. It's a shame because I like this doctor but the office staff is simply terrible. i should have read reviews BEFORE I chose this Optum location. 3 1/2 weeks ago, I asked for a referral for a dermatologist. i left on a 16 day vacation and when I got back...NO referral was received! I called and left a message ...which I know was not the office but their answering service! i told her I was mad and that I want my referral! she was polite and said that she would relay the message and someone would call me back. NO...NO ONE CALLED ME!! called again and operator instructed me to call the office receptionist and told me how to get thru to them. NO....no one answered the phone there!!! I called several times and could not get thru!!! still NO CALLBACK...NO REFERAL!! Absolute sham, Dr. Jihanian will OVERCHARGE YOU!!! DO NOT VISIT this center. I had a plantar wart and they will charge you $250+ per session for LIQUID NITROGEN, and that's NOT INCLUDING VISIT FEE. AVOID this clinic at all cost, the customer service and friendliness is a total facade. There are other more effective dermatology centers that will charge no more than $80 for liquid nitrogen procedures. I paid nearly $700 for a plantar wart removal and they will call it "surgical." Avoid OPTUM too, they're a terrible healthcare provider. read more

Dr. Castilla and his staff (Gloria) are restricted by the insurances, I get it. But the lack of follow up, cooperatives, lack of personalized healthcare are rampant here. Dr. erroneously referred to the wrong specialist, takes 45-1hr just to speak with someone, only to have matter compounded by another Error. Then you call back and the Doctor is gone for the day. The health care provider group Optum is more at fault than the local group office. I have given Optum health the correct provider for my medicare coverage and they still have not made the changes. Their portal is nonfunctional when trying to request an appointment for a specialist you need to see. They leave you on hold forever and I have been disconnected twice when trying to reach the office. I would not recommend this Optum health care group fo a new patient. read more

This Healthcare Partners location has been my primary care location for 20 years. My children have been seeing Dr Low since they were babies. She's very patient in listening to us and very responsive when we leave a message to talk to her. Her advice in taking care of our children's health issues has always been correct. It's terrible how things like this can happen. My 12 year old boy had an injury to his finger. I took him in to see his doctor to get an X-ray because it definitely looked fractured. When I went into the X-ray department the tech was really rude and did not want me to walk my son in. I was so disappointed and felt really uncomfortable. He has no empathy towards patients and parents. My son also felt uncomfortable about the whole thing. After we had the X-ray we went home. Monday morning doctor called to let me know he did not have a fracture. I couldn't believe it! I told the doctor how can that be his finger looks deformed. I took it upon myself to see my husbands hand specialist to get an X-ray and see this doctor. Sure enough he had a solid fracture. How can OPTUM not see a solid fracture. This is unacceptable! There is no reason or excuse not to see a fracture. If I would have believed the doctor at OPTUM he could have needed surgery if he would continue with his sports. Thank god I have PPO I was able to go immediately to an orthopedic hand specialist. Please patients be aware of this. If you continue to have pain after your X-ray was normal please go to urgent care to get another X-ray or see an orthopedic if you can to confirm. I no longer trust the X-ray department here at OPTUM Arcadia. I see that another patient on Yelp experienced the same thing and was told she did not have a fracture when she actually did after another X-ray elsewhere. Please don't ignore the pain if it continues. This is a terrible experience and can not be ignored! read more

Dr. Tu and her staff are absolutely amazing. They even sent a card a week later thanking us for choosing them as our provider. She is seriously the best pediatrician my son has had. We moved here from TX to CA and have not been successful in finding anyone yet. She was so patient and took the time to answer all 30 questions we had. So far we have only been in for a physical for our 2 year old, but she was so knowledgeable, friendly, sweet, and super good with kids. I know you might read this and say well she is a pediatrician i'd hope so, but seriously for some reason its really hard to find doctors who really will connect well with your child sometimes. The rest of the family is seen at this facility as well across the way in family medicine and everyone is so delightful and wonderful. I'd also like to give a shoutout to the lady at the front check in for pediatrics. She was so sweet at such an early time in the morning. I really apologize for not remembering your name but if you read this we were discussing your dark chocolate frapp drink from coffee bean and you were so nice to my son and myself and letting us know how much longer, helping with forms, etc. This office is literally a blessing. The service at this location continues to steadily decline. If you are sick or need immediate attention, you can expect to be scheduled 3 months out. The handful of doctors available (literally like 5) work a part-time schedule (or seem to). 9/10 people working here have mediocre bedside manner, no desire to even appear to be helpful, a bad attitude, and seem to enjoy telling patients off (you were late!!! Yes, I realize that. You've told me at an unnecessarily high volume at least 3 times. Can you please try to help me reschedule?). Your call go too the overflow call center and they transfer u back to Arcadia hi hi I just called Arcadia. I finally got some one in over flow center and the earliest appt I could get was for 5/2 my visit was for a follow up for a fall. I hurt my knee oh well. They need some work badly read more

I'm just so blown away on how the quality of service has gone exceedingly low. This location sent a very good amount of my medical records to my workplace without my consent. MAJOR HIPPA VIOLATION. I went in April and was suggested to inform my workplace of the medications I was taking so they could understand what the side effects are seeing as they cause nausea and etc. They had me sign a medical release form indicating that only that note would be released. I specified and everything. There was an unmarked checklist of specifications on what was being sent, when I asked about those the nurse told me to just leave them alone. So was faxed over that same day and finished. ONE entire month later my HR supervisor receives about 20 pages of my medical history. What the actual frick? I called the office directly and the receptionist, once again was unhelpful and extremely defensive. She told me that I had to call their medical records department because she cannot help me. So I called and the manager called me back informing me that whoever faxed over the doctors note to my workplace did not end the process of the request for "medical records" even if it was just a doctors note. Not only that but those unmarked specifications? Yeah, the nurse never bothered to mark anything on there. So their medical records department didn't know what to send seeing as the case was never closed and they were never informed that everything had been taken care of so they sent EVERYTHING pertaining to my medical condition. And sent exactly one month later. Wow. So now I'm in this predicament with this office because now my job has been compromised. I suffer from anxiety and depression, among the paperwork they sent to my workplace was a VERY confidential depression survey. Now that has been exposed to people who I never wanted to see that. They are now strongly suggesting I go part time, which I cannot afford. All because one person was careless and didn't do what she was supposed to. My doctor has nothing to do with this situation. I'm never disappointed when I see her, but the staff? Wow. I'm so annoyed with these people now. Seems like they hire anyone these days. I did consult with a professional in regards to this matter. I am waiting for an accommodation to ensure this never happens again and to compensate me for the HIPPA violation which ultimately jeopardized my job. If nothing is done I will pursue further action and with the advice I received we can take this all the way. I would just rather avoid the headache. read more

Love my doctor but the office staff here won't stop brushing me off. I called today desperately needing to be seen by my specialist and the receptionist told me to call my primary. When I informed her that he didn't treat that condition and also didn't work Fridays she urged me to try anyways and promised to call and make sure I'd gotten an appointment with him. This review is for Dr. Marinda Tu. She is hands down the best doctor I've ever met. We feel so lucky to have her as our pediatrician! If more doctors were like her, the world would be a better place! She's super sweet, friendly, knowledgable, patient and makes you feel valued. She never rushes through her appointments. We always feel like we're chatting with a friend when we're with her. She'll make sure all your questions and concerns are addressed so you can leave with a smile on your face. She's also so accommodating when we bring siblings to appointments. Went to the lab today for the first time in this location. I had to do a urine sample so did that first when I walked in. I was told to put the sample in the window cabinet. Once I opened the cabinet it smelled badly because there are several stacked urine cups inside. I would say there is at least 10 cups for a small cabinet. It seems like it has not been picked up for hours. For a known Healthcare facility, this is unacceptable. Also for a first time experience not a very pleasant one. read more

I have two young daughters, ages almost 5 and 2 1/2. This place was recommended to me by many people, so we decided to give them a go. We made an appointment to see Dr. Low. I've never seen a lobby-set up quite like this one before. They had two separate waiting rooms; one for sick patients & one for well patients. I thought that was genius! The lobby (at least the well patient lobby) was full of books, some toys, and had a Disney movie playing. Lots of chairs to sit on as well. The receptionist was SO friendly & welcoming, which is always nice. I believe her name is Denise. She actually seemed excited to meet us as new patients and made small, sincere talk. We were then met by a nurse named Ashley. She was also friendly and was quick when it came to checking my child's vitals and administering a shot. As for Dr. Low, I really can't complain much. She was patient and friendly with my oldest and made sure to explain what she was going to do before she actually did anything. Personally, I think I would have liked a little more "getting to know you and your family" conversation, but being a busy doctor, again, I can't complain. I've also heard that Dr. Tu and Dr. Cheng, who work with Dr. Low, are highly recommended. I wouldn't mind meeting both of them before determining our favorite and best fit for our family. Seeing as we had a good experience, we will definitely be back! ***Update!*** We have been going to this clinic for about six months now and we have had the chance to meet Dr. Tu & Cheng. We ultimately decided to go with Dr. Tu; she is a little easier to book any appointment with, she's a young doctor, and she is so cute & friendly! Dr. Cheng was also wonderful! Overall, this is a great medical office. My girls' pediatrician, Dr.Fialkoff,is excellent. She's a seasoned doctor who has a lot of common sense and medical knowledge. I trust her and highly recommend her. My doctor, Dr. Rhoda Lin, is a Family Practice doctor and she is the best doctor I've ever had. She's very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, thorough and explains things well. Unfortunately, she is not accepting new patients. The office staff is good, although I have had some problems. They have been friendly and helpful, though. I have gotten same-day appts. several times. I've also seen their in-house podiatrist and ENT. Both doctors were excellent. The specialists I've seen have been communicative and willing to discuss issues and clarify any questions I've had. The worst health care company I've ever dealt with in my life. I just spend 90 minutes trying to get through to my doctor's office. All I wanted to do was ask if they could have me do blood work in Covina instead of Arcadia. I drive a truck, and the cost of gas is too expensive to drive all the way to Arcadia. I get one person that connects me to another person, then another, then another, then another. No one knows what they are doing. Then one person disconnects me, so I'm back to square one. This is not the first time this has happened .Most of the doctor's do very little to help your medical problems. A pulmonary doctor just laughed at me when I told him I can't sleep. It's a real problem for me. He said, no one sleeps after 50. Really!! I have sleep apnea. I'm done with this medical group. I would give them no stars if I could. This review is for Dr. Marjorie Alvir. Had my first appt. today. I arrived 20 mins. early to fill out new patient info. Signed in and started filling out my forms when they called me in- 15 mins BEFORE my appt. time. After taking my vitals and history, the nurse said Dr would be in soon. She came in 2 mins. later. She spent 25 minutes with me- getting history etc... then a quick exam, then set up a plan for future care. Bloodwork, physical, mammo etc. I was very satisfied with her professional demeanor but also her bedside manor. I look forward to having her as my PCP. Also, I'm trying to call to get my results and on a Tuesday 10am, I've been on hold for over 15 mins. No staff answered to ask me to stay on the line. But that's not all! It's more appropriate for the clinic she used to work at. And I think people still need to hear this kind of stories. Other than deleting the part about her previous clinic, I didn't change anything else. We didn't follow Dr. Tu after she moved to Arcadia, a bit too far from us, but we miss her very much. ------------ Jun 2012 We recently switched to Dr. Marinda Tu in Kindercare Pediatrics. Dr. Tu is FANTASTIC. As a mother of two, I can't exaggerate how happy I am to have found Dr. Tu for my children. I consider myself lucky. When my son was five days old, he was diagnosed with newborn jaundice by a doctor from our previous pediatrician's office. The doctor ordered a photo therapy blanket to our house without much explanations. After some internet research, I decided to seek a second opinion about it. I called several pediatricians' office in the morning to see if anyone can see us right away. We explained the situation to Dr. Tu's office and her secretary gave us an appointment in the afternoon. This later turned out to be one of the best things that has ever happened in my life--I'm not exaggerating it at all. When we saw Dr. Tu, both my husband and I were already super stressed. Dr. Tu was very calm and reassuring. Her relaxed yet confident manner soon calmed me down. Dr. Tu took time to explain to us in great details about jaundice, asked about my son's weight gain, diapers, and feeding, and also carefully checked my son's skin color, reflection, etc. I immediately knew that Dr. Tu is the right kind of doctor because she examined the general picture instead of only focusing on blood test results. At the end of the appointment, Dr. Tu told us that my son's jaundice level did not require any treatment at this point. She told us what we need to watch and asked us to come back in a few days to see her. We were so relieved. Soon after we got home, two ladies from the LA county department of children and family showed up in my door. The previous doctor, after we told him that we were going to a different doctor for second opinion, called CPS on us! Thank God we had already seen Dr. Tu. I gave Dr. Tu's number to the CPS investigators and then called her office to warn her about it. I was quite surprised when I got a call from Dr. Tu the next day. She told me the CPS investigators had visited her and she had passed her note to them. Then she said to me:" Don't worry. Everything will be okay." I was extremely grateful to Dr. Tu for her professional and emotional support to me during this "jaundice/CPS crisis" of my family. At the time, I just gave birth, less than a week. Confusing and stressful, this was not an easy time for me. My son's jaundice later turned out to be "breast milk jaundice," a harmless condition caused by breast milk but no one knows exactly why. It was mild, but did not go away completely until he turned five weeks old. We saw Dr. Tu several times before my son's six week checkup. Dr. Tu was so reassuring. She even told us that her own son had the same condition and joked about it with us. There was one late Friday afternoon when I needed to breastfeed my son in the exam room, Dr. Tu walked into the room and sat down with us, because she did not have other patients to see. She chatted with us about parenting issues of our toddler and answered all our questions. She is down-to-earth, personable yet professional. After she left the room, my husband and I looked at each other and said:"Oh man, she is awesome!" I myself have seen many many doctors in my life. Professionally good or not, there is always another dimension in doctors: One kind of doctors see their patients first as human beings who suffer/need help. The other kind of doctors see their patients first as medical problems/test results/films to solve/decipher. Not until the day my baby had medical problems had I realized the importance of making sure my pediatrician does not fall into this second kind of doctors. I myself can deal with any kind of doctors for my own medical condition with no problem. But being a parent, I am extremely vulnerable to my children's health issue, despite how minor it is. Besides the professional side, I need a pediatrician who truly cares about my children's wellness and treats parents respectfully. A great pediatrician should be like Dr. Tu, who has a nice way of putting parents at ease instead of making parents worry. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Tu to any parents. read more

Dr. Ed Farag is our Neurologist and I have to compliment him, his nursing staff and the front desk personnel at HealthCare Partners in Arcadia. This is a well run office and Dr. Farag is an excellent and caring physician. Appointments are on time!!! Dr. Farag very nice, highly qualified, has always taken his time with us, never rushes us, and makes sure we understand our current medical situation before ending our appointment. Further, he is super prompt in returning phone calls and answering questions if we have follow-up questions. I highly recommend Dr. Ed Farag. He is an excellent doctor. read more
