Who LIKES going to the dentist?! I never thought I would say this, but, "I do, now!" From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was visiting a high-end spa. The space was beautiful, immaculately clean and so relaxing. My hygenist, Dana was not only friendly, but anal. (A quality I LIKE when someone is cleaning my teeth. No sloppy hygenists for me.) She was so personable that I felt like I was having coffee with a friend and forgot where I was (and that I had a 'mouth sucker' hanging out of my mouth). Fortunately drool does not freak Dana out! Dr. Mark was just as attentive and personal. His approach is not aggressive and very respectful of the health of my teeth and my finances. It is nice to see a dentist with integrity. I have actually had a few bad experiences of dentists wanting to drill into perfectly healthy teeth. I am so glad to find such great service in such a wonderful environment. EXTRA BONUS: 1.There is free parking off the street 2. They give a REALLY nice free toothbrush and some super-delux samples of good products. The facility is beautiful and once you actually physically get in an appointment there everything is fabulous...the bad part is that it's next to impossible to get an appointment in less than 6 months in advance for a routine visit and cleaning. If you have a job with an inconsistent schedule like mine, good luck getting your teeth cleaned...like, ever. My six-month-in advance appointment got cancelled and I was told that they could re-schedule me in 2015. Eh, what? After I complained saying that I think I'm just going to switch to a different dentist they magically had an appointment open up in 1 week. If this place wasn't so close to my house and I wasn't too lazy to drive somewhere else I definitely wouldn't give Ora my business. I used to live in Wicker Park and that Ora Dental was much more flexible with scheduling. read more

I've been struggling to find a good dentist in Chicago. Dr. Koos and his staff were extremely warm and welcoming. After chatting with the assistant, she made me nice and comfy in a private room with House Hunters (what's not to love about House Hunters??). I am really sad to have to write this review because my daughter has been going here for YEARS and loves it. Dr. Koos and Dr. Kralj are amazing at what they do and Trisha (from Dr. Koos' side) provides excellent customer service. Which is why I was so SO excited when FINALLY I obtained dental insurance and discovered they were in network!! I could hardly wait to schedule my appointment. I first met with Dr. Koos but had to be referred to Dr. Kralj since my tooth was going to be saved. They are both great so I didn't mind. I actually ended up seeing the endodontist and even though it was a painful experience (not his fault) I still had no issues. The issue did not come until my insurance company paid a lesser amount than what I was billed. Because I overpaid using my FSA card, it had a "hold" placed on it until the overpayment was credited from Ora. I thought this would be pretty simple but WHAT A NIGHTMARE. I live and work in another state so I have not been able to go up there but it looks like I have no choice because I just cannot get the overpayment credited. Someone did call me back and I thought that I was so close to getting my refund but then was told it was for a lesser amount which is an error. So in summary, I initially requested the refund on March 30, 2017 and it is now April 25th. In hindsight I should have gone elsewhere because I can see now that I cannot afford to go here but because of how awesome the doctors are I just really really wanted to get the chance to experience what my daughter does - to be treated by a great dentist and/or oral surgeon. If money is not an issue to you at all or you don't have to deal with insurance then please do go here - the doctors are amazing, but if you count on your FSA money to pay for medical expenses then I hope you learn from my experience and find someplace less awesome but more affordable. I saw Dr. Koos about 2 weeks ago to have my wisdom teeth removed. Honestly, they made the whole process so easy and made me as comfortable as possible. Scheduling an appointment and consultation was quick and easy. When I went in for the procedure the nurse preparing me for surgery was so kind and caring. I was promptly sedated and the whole thing was over before I knew it. They then talked to me and my boyfriend about how to care for my mouth. Very disappointed with the office. The office look good and modern, but it's about money. .. I went to the office for invisalign. Dr.Krals wanted 2900 up front. I have insurance that reimburse 1500. My insurance send my check to his office every time. They had my money for over a month. I have to always call them to get my money. I have asked for them to send it right to me. Dr. Koos did a double extraction on my upper and lower wisdom tooth and his bedside manner and soothing voice were great. He was able to pull both teeth in one procedure quickly. After spending some time searching for a suitable dentist that takes my insurance--I have to say I'm very pleased with my experience today at ORA. From the front door to the dentist's chair, everything is designed to keep you comfortable, relaxed and informed. All employees were knowledgeable --and frankly, couldn't have been any more friendly. Throughout the entire appointment, I felt that I was an informed and active participant in the decision-making process and never felt as if anything was being "done to me" (something all too common with other practitioners). I came here to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed about two years ago. I was nervous and in pain. I'd had to spend the 4th of July holiday in pain, since no dentists were available during the holiday. That Monday, Ora took me for the very next morning. I was blessed to get Dr. Koos, whom I will never forget. 20 MINUTES LATER! He was waking me up. All four wisdom teeth gone! He spent more time trying to get a vein to administer the anesthesia than he did the extractions. He called me twice after the surgery to check up on me. The customer service was second to none. M.D. Koos was caring, answered all my questions and explained the procedure. In 2 days i went in for teeth extraction of impacted wisdom teeth. The true integrity of medicine that that we as patient search for is often lost with experience. My sister RAVED about Dr. Koos. After having the same dentist and oral surgeon for years, you can become a little apprehensive about trying someone new. She had a wonderful experience and wanted me to try him out. My wisdom teeth were impacted (past tense so obviously they are no longer with me) and were causing severe overcrowding of my other teeth. I went to my oral surgeon for a consultation and after he provided me with a bill that was the equivalent of a hefty down payment on a car, I gave Koos a call. The ladies at the front were very informative and helpful. The office is ritzy. Like W Hotel meets Japanese waterfront ritzy. But it was a nice change of pace and very calming. Trish (tall black girl) was a great assistant and was very good company while waiting on the good doctor. When Koos came in he was nothing as I expected him to be. And that's nothing against him, I just have low expectations of people in general. That was a joke. Koos is soft spoken, EXTREMELY professional, thorough and has this alluring aura about him. Like the hot nerd that you would trust with your credit card number. But I digress. He explained to me everything that he was going to do during the procedure, my x-rays, aftercare and even gave me suggestions about braces. You can tell he has a passion for what he does. The big day arrived after EASY scheduling of my surgery. I believe the girls at the front saw my look of...terror. They tried to help ease all the anxiety and were quite successful. Jackie, (another assistant) brought me back and was so pleasant! This is where it took a left turn. There was rock music playing in the back. Now for anybody else that would be a deterrent but for an eccentric individual like myself it was awesome! It was so deliciously random and unexpected it actually made me look forward to Koos' handiwork. They gave me the laughing gas which was...an experience. You know that scene from Pulp Fiction where John Travolta is driving down the road to pick up Mia after getting high? And everything was in slow motion? You feel like that with the gas. Koos came in, put the teeny tiny butterfly in my arm and he didn't even get a chance to tell me to count backwards before I was out like a light. 40 minutes later I wake up to Trish (which wasn't a bad sight at all) helping me out of the chair and into the recovery room. Again, they explained to my sister all the instructions for aftercare and ways of contacting them if anything should go wrong. *insert disclaimer here* Now I will warn you my AFTER experience isn't like the rest. I have lupus and have had several surgeries in the past so my tolerance for pain killers, pain and inflammation etc is extremely high. They tell you the numbing should last 6-8 hrs. Mine lasted about 2. They say you shouldn't be experiencing discomfort until much later. Within 2 hrs of arriving home I had the most excruciating pain I've felt in a LONG time. But once I took the painkillers and Vicodin I was too high to care anymore. This marks day 5 or 6 since my surgery and my jaw is still swollen and I'm in a lot of pain. BUT! For people with autoimmune disorders this is not uncommon. The surgery was quite traumatic to my body and it reacted in a volatile way. That doesn't mean that this will happen to everyone because it won't. It doesn't mean Koos botched the surgery because he most certainly didn't. The only negative that I have with the experience is the pain. The items in the kit he provides work wonders for pain relief and oral hygiene. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! They will help you tremendously. All in all I had an excellent experience at Ora. Hopefully I'll have no reason to go back but if I had to I would. Check out Dr. Koos! You'll be glad you did! read more

This is a long overdue review, but better late than never. Both me and my husband LOVE this dental place. We never thought we would love a dental place either... I had my wisdom teeth removed a year ago. Dr. Koos was very nice and even gave me his cell phone number to call if I had any problems/questions. He also called me later that night to make sure that I was alright. I developed a dry socket in my lower right jaw. I went there for a week every day afterwards and they NEVER charged me for the follow up care. Very compassionate staff and dentists. Highly recommended! read more

I actually had a great conversation with the hygienist in between the cleanings. The waiting room is nice and the rooms are all clean with great new equipment. I never write reviews unless it is super good or super bad.. For Dr Koos, it would be a super good experience. got referred to another oral surgeon by my dentist for a wisdom teeth procedure. Surprisingly he gave me a less than minute consultation and got me out of office. Then I found Dr Koos on yelp with perfect reviews . When I first came for consultation I know why. The office is decorated like an art studio. Dr Koos is patient . He explained everything in detail including what's gonna happen in surgery and also explain why one of my teeth looks different in the X-ray, just like teaching a student :). During the day of the surgery, I was greeted by a super nice guy Anthony who played Chainsmokers during the surgery. After the surgery, they gave me the instruction for the care. Everything is expected beforehand. Like my right side will be more painful and swollen because that tooth took some time to get out. And on the third day the swelling will peak and diminish afterwards. I did not feel too much uncomfortable during the whole process. Only took one Ibuprofen although I did not really feel much pain. After a week, I did not feel any thing. If the food did not stuck at the holes, I cannot even notice I had a surgery. Today was my first appointment and right off the bat, I can tell you that I found my dentist! They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. In fact, it was the total opposite. They focused on comfort and transparency from beginning to end. The staff was friendly and kind, the hygienist explained everything and made me feel at ease and ensured I was comfortable, and Dr. Krolj was pleasant, to the point, and honest! I have had previous dental work and have so far tried to see a dentist annually, but haven't found the right one. The previous dentists I chose were because they were either nearby, covered by my insurance, had okay reviews, or because I had an emergency and they were the only ones with an immediate opening. My coworker recommended I try ORA, and I am so glad I did! I get very, very anxious when I go to the dentist, but the staff at ORA made me feel at ease! read more

I waited a long time to write this review to make sure that it really is a good as I thought it was...and it was. Dr. Koos performed a dental implant, and in the process debunked all the horrible myths I had heard about them. There was absolutely no pain. I had the surgery, got up and went about my day. It was as if I had taken a short restorative nap. Ora Studios, itself, is just beautiful and is staffed by some of the nicest people I have ever met. But in my opinion that best thing of this dental experience is that you can have everything. Ora is a office that has both dental and surgery studios under the same roof. You see the dentist, and if needed, he will go get the surgeon or vice versa. If you need an x-ray or cat scan, no problem, everything is right there. Surgery? They have one of the best equipped, clean operating rooms ever seen. Even the sound system is first rate! In fact everyone at Ora goes out of their way to make dental care simple, easy and a pleasant experience. What more could anyone want? read more

My son had two impacted wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Koos. It was an excellent experience from start to finish. The consultation was thorough, the surgery was scheduled in a short time after the consultation, the cost was reasonable and they even checked with my insurance to see what my reimbursement rate was likely to be. But, the most important reason for five starts: the surgery went well, the recovery was better than expected due to thorough instructions and planning, and Dr. Koos even called my son and gave him his personal cell number after the surgery to make sure he was doing well. This place is amazing! We were referred by our own Ora Dental group, so I was a little skeptical. My college bound daughter needed here wisdom teeth extracted, but she was leaving in two weeks! Amazingly Dr. Koos' office was able to quickly squeeze her in for a consultation. We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a delightful staff and seemingly kind-soft-spoken doctor; just what you want when you're taking a teenager in for oral surgery. Once again the staff worked diligently with us to get an appointment that worked not only with my daughter's work schedule but with adequate time for recovery before she left for college. Needless to say her surgery went well, the staff was knowledgeable, thoughtful and through.... All in a very modern, welcoming setting with free parking!! read more

The dentists there are GREAT. Very thorough and explained everything very well. I received a Saturday evening phone call from dentist after surgery to check up on me. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the dentists. They would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for the front desk. I went in for a consultation for a crown and the dentist was able to start the first part of the procedure right away (which was awesome). Since I was not expecting to have to pay for anything on that particular visit, I did not have my HSA card and paid with normal CC. The next day I realized I should have used my HSA so I called to see if they could reverse the charge and pay in full with HSA ( I only paid half on CC). I was told they couldn't reverse the charge to my CC but could issue me a check for the amount paid and then pay the full amount on HSA. I was told someone would call me back in a few minutes to take the necessary information. Later the NEXT day I finally received a call (which went to voice mail) telling me to call whenever and it would be taken care of. I called back and after talking to a different person I was told that this reversal could not be done. I asked to speak to the manager and she said there was a "communication breakdown" and they could not issue me a check for the amount paid. After going back and forth, the manager flat out said "we do not want the administrative burden" and that I could file a claim to my HSA. Usually people try to beat around the bush about not wanting to have to deal with something, its an even worse customer experience to be told they don't want to do something because it requires effort. I do not see what is so difficult about taking the full amount due on the phone and then writing a check for the amount already paid. Instead I have to deal with filing a claim with my HSA to get the money back. SEPARATE YET RELATED ISSUE - After my first experience at ORA (above comments related to second experience) my insurance covered more than estimated and I had an overpayment of $X. It's a good thing I review all my bills and noticed that there was an overpayment and waited for a few weeks expecting to get a check in the mail. Instead of automatically issuing me a check for the overpayment, they credited my account for future use. Like most people, I'm not in the habit of having oral surgery frequently so whats the point of having a credit? Again, its less of an "administrative burden" to credit my account instead of issuing me a check. After not receiving a check I called and a check was promptly issued, however I do not feel like I should have to call to get my money back. If I wouldn't have checked my bills and never returned I could only assume they would have kept the difference. It seems like my review is consistent with others: dentists AWESOME, front desk could use a root canal. read more

I am a 28 year old woman who has procrastinated getting all four of my wisdom teeth pulled since the age of 22. I was recommended to Dr. Koos at Ora Dental Studios back in February of 2015. I went in for a consultation and my experience was similar to that of a visit to the spa (which I do often). It was a clean, state-of-the-art facility with invigorating colors, a perky, enthusiastic staff and cool gadgets that eased my fear of the journey I was soon to embark upon. I sat in a massage chair that doubled as a dental examine chair. Dr. Koos entered and thoroughly explained the procedure easing all of my fears and concerns. I was in and out within 20 minutes. I returned to get the procedure completed in May of 2015. It was the best dental experience ever. I loved the ambiance with the upbeat music and bright colors that made me feel more at ease and fascinated than afraid of getting all four wisdom teeth extracted. The staff was amazing and the process was painless. I was put to sleep in the middle of an interesting conversation with Dr. Koos with me having entered the office just 15 minutes prior. The only thing that had been done at that point was that I was administered laughing gas and they had put the IV in for the medicine to knock me out. I woke up what seemed like minutes later and nothing was attached to me and I hadn't seen any dental equipment. Actually, I never seen any dental equipment at all during that visit. No scary needles to numb my mouth. No big intimidating gadgets. Just an upbeat facility with great music, a friendly staff, and a beautiful decor. I was taken to a recovery room that was phenomenal. The nurse patiently explained everything to me and my family. Dr. Koos came to visit & shared more cool, captivating gadgets. First of all I must admit that the office is very nice and very clean. They pride themselves on being a "green" office and it shows. I needed an implant where I had lost a tooth awhile ago and everything went very well. I didn't have any pain and everyone was professional and I felt very well taken care of. Why only 2 stars? Because despite the nice office, clean environment, great dental care and state of the art equipment, I was extremely aggravated by how many HOURS I had to endure in their waiting room on multiple occasions. Yes, HOURS. It is a terrible problem. I was not the only one who was kept waiting and waiting and waiting. I initially came to ORA Dental because I was in a lot of pain from having wisdom teeth extracted at another dental office. On my first visit, I filled out my information on the laptop they gave and proceeded to wait an hour in the waiting room before I could get in to see a dentist. On subsequent visits the wait time was still the same if not worse. On another occasion, my appointment was at 3:30PM. I had to leave work early to be on time and I arrived a little after 3PM and checked in. Once again I ended up waiting and waiting. After an hour, I get a shout from one of the women at the front desk and she tells me that it won't be much longer so I continue to wait. I notice that people come in late for their appointments and are allowed to go right in even though they have missed the start time for their appointments. Had I known that the key is to come late and not early, I would have done that instead. After 5PM...that's right over 2 hours of waiting they tell me that the dentist still has another patient and it will be another hour so maybe I might want to schedule another appointment. Great. It would have been nice to know that 2 hours ago. Of course I schedule another appointment and this time I don't come early and I am just on time, but I still end up waiting an hour. Why bother to make an appointment at a certain time if no one sticks to the times agreed upon? On my last visit to ORA Dental I left after waiting over an hour again without seeing the dentist and I won't be going back. I complained about the wait time and so did others on the days that I had appointments, but nothing changed. Complaining got you in a little sooner, but I would still be granted access to one of the rooms in the back where I would sit in a chair for another hour waiting. In the yeah that I had several appointments I literally spent more time waiting to be seen than I did getting work done on my teeth. This is just unacceptable. I really did love the offices and the dental work was top notch, but the complete disregard for my time is a deal breaker for me. I understand that everybody gets busy, but I had to wait at least an hour on average every visit. If you are always late to appointments or you don't mind waiting for hours in the waiting room, I would recommend ORA Dental Studios. You will get very good dental care, but make sure that you bring something to read and have your smartphones charged up because you will be in for a very very long wait. read more

This review is late, I feel its important to let others know. My daughter has a very rare chronic illness and she needed her wisdom teeth pulled. Because of our insurance we initially went to Dentalworks a division of Sears. But because my daughters' case was complicated they referred us to ORA Dental. There we met with Dr. Koos and where we explained my daughter illness in detail. Now here's what we thought was the great part, Dr. Koos is is also an anesthesiologist MD. We thought that was perfect, because she was going to have to be put to sleep for the surgery under general anesthesia and he would be able to administer it. On the day of her appointment, it dawned on me that I hadn't let my daughter's doctor that she was going to be having this surgery in a dentist office and be put to sleep. So I of course, asked a lot of questions and called my doctor to see if she could talk to Dr Koos. The girls at the front desk, thought I was being overly dramatic, a helicopter mom. Which I could tell when they said Dr Koos, couldn't speak with my doctor, who was now on the phone. So my daughter went back. The next time I saw her she was in recovery. She was groggy but trying to talk to me and her boyfriend. Shortly after being in the room with her she started convulsing and shaking, eyes rolling up in her head. I tried to hold her still, while I called for the nurse. The nurse got Dr. Koos and he came in and asked me to step out of the room. I had no idea what was happening to her. She wasn't responding to me calling her name and I wasn't sure I should leave her. The nurse assured me she was fine and took me back up front. Where I sat with a very nervous office administrator and waited to see my daughter again. When I did go back to see her she was alert and talking. She has no reclamation of what happened. And Dr. Koos' told me that she must of had a reaction to the anesthesia, and he put a needle in her hand to reverse the effects of the anesthesia. My daughter has had general anesthesia several times in the hospital and this has NEVER HAPPENED!! I don't know what he did, but what I do know is that, my daughter said happened in the room before she was put under is very unprofessional if NOT ILLEGAL. The nurse thought she was out when she heard her ask the other nurse, "if he wanted to go talk to her mother because she could tell I was the type that going to ask a lot of questions". Well yes she's right; my first question is "IS THE DENTAL TECHNICAN LICSENDED TO PUT IN A NEEDLE AND PUSH ANESTHESIA to their patients?? No only board certified doctor's OR CRNA's can do that, and she told my daughter that she was a dental technician!! Dr. Koos' wasn't even in the room when they put my daughter under!! So they point of this entire review is to say, that sure the offices are nice, and sure the staff is reasonably competent and well mannered. But being put to sleep under General Anesthesia is a very serious procedure and shouldn't be done in a dentist office without the proper staff. How can he monitor her breathing while he's removing the teeth, he can't, he shouldn't and apparently he didn't. Go there for general dental work but NOT TO BE PUT TO SLEEP, they don't handle paitient safety. read more

Professional and helpful staff. Kind and knowledgeable doctor. The doctor will personally call you after the surgery to make sure you are ok. After years of procrastinating, I finally made the executive decision to remove my wisdom teeth. I was quite nervous to say the least from the numerous horror stories I've heard, so finding the perfect doctor was mandatory. A colleague raved about her experience with Dr. Koos so I promptly made my appointment. She was absolutely right! The experience and service I received at ORA was the best I ever had. After speaking to Dr. Koos about my concerns, he completely put my mind at ease about the surgery and reassured me I was in good hands. The day of surgery I experienced a bit of discomfort which is expected but the following day you wouldn't believe I had them removed! He did such an outstanding job I had little to no swelling and was up and about the next day. I really appreciated his daily calls post surgery to make sure of my speedy recovery. I wouldn't say traveling from DC to Chicago for surgery is necessarily convenient, but for the quality of service and treatment I received I wouldn't have done anything different. I needed my wisdom teeth out, and since Ora was in my plan, I read all the reviews on Yelp. I went in for a consult, and scheduled my appt. for the Saturday morning following the consult. Dr. Koos and the staff were phenomenal. I have never been put under for any reason so I was anxious, but I came thru with flying colors. I read all the possibile things that could happen post surgery, including swollen face, dry socket, etc. I'm extremely happy to say, I went under at 9:10 am and was awake and in recovery at 9:48 am! No swelling, no stitches, no dry sockets, no pain. I didn't think it was possible! Dr. Koos followed up later that night to see how I was. From the location, to the staff, to the eco friendly office and procedures, the team at Ora has cornered the market. They are fantastic. read more

Recently moved from Denver; concerned about finding a new dentist as advanced as my previous one. Saw ORA near my new home and checked out on yelp. From the time I called to book an appt to the time I left, the experience could not have been better. Don't confuse your dental appointment with your massage therapy: they look the same (the chair massages you while you peruse your favorite Dish channel). ORA is more advanced than my prior dentist, and I can tell that my teeth are cleaner than any time before. It gets better: Dr. Kralj's philosophy is to preserve what you have.
