Dr. Peng has been treating me for years. She is great and has always been there to listen to my questions or concerns about my treatment and prescriptions. I was in graduate school and even with my busy schedule, she and her staffstill always able to get me in for an appointment. Dr. Peng was also willing to let me try different or new medications until we found the perfect course of treatment for me. She wasn't rigid or just stuck to one kind of medicine like many doctors who push certain ones only because that's what they have always done. I highly recommend Dr. Peng. Honestly, it might be better not to trust them. When my child entered the examination room, Dr. Peng immediately said my son showed signs of autism and recommended an EEG, genetic testing, and blood tests. At the time, I was worried about my son's development and thought I should follow their instructions, but I also felt that something wasn't right. The only test we could do right away was the blood test, so we went to the lab. However, the lab told us that there were too many orders and that the amount of blood a child can safely provide wasn't enough to run all the tests. After waiting for two hours, they couldn't perform the tests. When I contacted the clinic to confirm the test orders, they insisted everything was correct. This happened twice. Because of the stressful interactions and my growing concerns about their reliability, I went to two other clinics and explained the situation. Both told me that my son is not autistic and that he does not need an EEG or genetic testing. They explained that EEGs are usually done when there are symptoms like muscle twitching, but my son has never shown anything like that. Despite this, Dr. Peng recommended expensive and unnecessary tests, and I almost ended up wasting money, time, and exposing my child to unnecessary procedures. Even if you are worried about your child's development, I think it's best to avoid this clinic. read more

Dr. Peng lacks integrity, professional competence, and interpersonal skills. As others clearly state in reviews, Dr. Peng does not listen to the parent or patient. Even when my teen child or I would be answering the doctor's questions, she wouldn't hear the answer and often started talking over us. Throughout each of the 2 appointments, I had to repeat the same information 2 or 3 times to correct Sr. Peng's inaccuracies during the conversation. Dr. Peng was efficient at sending us home with an EEG test and ordering a brain MRI imaging but was completely uninterested in observing my daughter's clear neurological symptoms, including foot drop and right side weakness, in her office. During our second and last appointment, Dr. Peng didn't evaluate or even really acknowledge these serious symptoms. Dr. Peng conveyed no real knowledge about neuroimmunological conditions, and it seemed that her neurological examination skills are very narrowly limited to only EEG and brain MRI readings. With my child's symptoms and medical history, there were additional neurological imaging/tests that should have been performed. As stated by others, it's obvious Dr. Peng's decisions about patient care is motivated by what brings her the most money. She's one of the most negligent and unethical physicians I've encountered. read more

The big however is that they provided zero advance notice or transparency on any costs for tests they wanted to run. No to this office! My daughter needed an EKG and I told the office she had one earlier in the year so I wanted to make sure it was covered by insurance. They never ran it by the insurance, sent her home with the in-home EEG for several days which cost thousands of dollars and then they attempted to bill me for it. I said no way, it was on them to pre-approve or to tell me to do it. They eventually relented on most of the bill but then fired us as a patient and would not see anyone in my entire family. Is this even legal? The Dr is actually good at what she does so it's a shame she can't run a better office. Try Dr Tarman at Choc. He's great and the office is so kind. read more

Beyond 5 stars. Dr. Peng has been a huge blessing to our family. Our three year old son started having unexplained seizures and Dr. Peng worked to see us quickly, get us the testing he needed and was the most caring and compassionate physician my husband and I ever encountered. To say she goes above and beyond for her patients is an understatement. Luckily all our son's turned out well but he needed medication for his seizures and Dr. Peng has been with us every step of the way. As a mother this was one of the hardest times in my life but I knew my son was in the best hands and Dr. Peng was so kind to my husband and I. I wanted to really like Dr. Peng, but our last visit with her was not pleasant or helpful. We came early and waited for 20 mins in the room even though there was no one in the office. Once she finally came in, she greeted us by saying she hadn't seen our child in a long time, even though we zoomed with her within the last three months. She then proceeded to tell us that we didn't do the MRI that was ordered and asked what the hold up was...our appointment was a follow up visit to discuss the results of the MRI. That to me was a red flag because she did not review our child's results prior to our meeting or when they were sent to her office. I take that as a huge sign that she does not care about the well being of my child or have any real investment in helping us. The rest of the conversation was her talking over me and I truly felt like she did not hear a word I was saying. Everything felt dismissive and unconcerning, which actually upsets me because I had been anxious about the results and was looking for encouragement and reassurance from the doctor. I do want to say that the medical professionals at the front were very warm, friendly, and super helpful so that was the only plus. I don't see how she has a four star rating with this many one star ratings. It doesn't add up. Long story short my son has been seeing her for FIVE years for ADHD. She's nice enough, generic questions, often weird and rambling just kind of flighty, but whatever. He needed his prescription refilled, and we had an insurance faux pas. She literally refused to treat him, would not fill his medication and he suffered for six days from withdrawal symptoms. This was all due to the fact she couldn't bill insurance, even though we had rectified it. This is after being with this woman for five years. She didn't seem to have a problem with my son who was throwing up and having migraine withdraws but you know she needs her insurance $$$ for a stupid five minutes scripted zoom call. Again, I will repeat what many others have said. Money is a motivating factor for this woman not the health of your child. read more

My son was recently referred to Dr. Peng for a neurological consultation to confirm/rule out autism. I do feel like she is competent, but her "bedside manner" could use some help. During my son's evaluation (which started about 15mins late for no obvious reason - their lobby is tiny and we were the only people there that day), she kept asking questions and then interrupting me when I was responding. Within maybe 20mins she had decided on a diagnosis (the whole appt was supposed to be an hour - we were there maybe half of that) and was writing it out. She did point out the things she was looking for and the reasoning behind some of her questions, at least. I have been pushing back against this evaluation for a year now because I didn't want my child "slapped with a label", and now I'm really glad I did. Had our appointment gone this way a year ago without the services (speech & ABA) in between I would have been livid. So, I have the 1-pg thing she wrote on the spot, and after asking for the official report, her receptionist Debbie sent me the Doctor's 2-pg notes. I asked for a few minor corrections (mostly dates, number of vitamins, family history) or a more official looking report and both of those requests have been ignored. It doesn't even have the Doctor's signature, just a notification that it has been signed. I'm hoping I'll have better luck in the upcoming week now that Thanksgiving is over. Also, for reference, to reach her office you need to turn onto Bellogente (north side of Crown Valley) and follow it until you reach a cul-de-sac that splits into different driveways for offices. We came here with our toddler upon a good friend's recommendation and left with much frustrations and regrets. Long and unnecessary wait time of at least 45 minutes despite being early for our appointment, and we were the only patients in the entire office at the time of arrival. Dr Peng rambled on and on. She had a heavy accent and her words slurred, which made it very difficult to understand her. She barely interacted with our toddler who was the patient in question. She started asking us (the parents) questions about our toddler's developments and challenges, and quickly trailed off and never completed the forms she was filling out. When she asked us questions and we started answering her, she interrupted us too frequently and continued to ramble on like she's rehearsing from a medical textbook. The back and forth exchanges with her made us feel like she wasn't attentive, alert, and or care about whom the patients she was talking to. Her office never bothered to inform that she had written a report upon after our visit (it was our first visit). We found out 3 weeks later because some therapy clinic called us and informed us Dr Peng's office had referred our toddler to their clinic for therapy, and they had already reached out to our health insurance for approval of services. We are certain we NEVER spoke to Dr Peng and or her staff regarding wanting referral to any clinic (our toddler was already in therapy so we were not seeking additional services or referrals). We felt that our health, personal and insurance related privacy were violated by Dr Peng and her office staff without our consent. We called her office to discuss about the referral, and was told it was done in error. When we received the written report by Dr Peng upon request, we noticed our toddler's first and last name were in it, but that TWO other kids' names were also in the report too. This was another major red flag. This report was written supposedly by the doctor herself (with her name and title as the heading, and signed by her), and yet it is obvious that it was just a generic template that she used and replaced the kid's name with our toddler's name randomly throughout the report. We can not trust what was written in this report, and we don't feel confident about Dr Peng's medical diagnosis, bedside manners, and overall care as a medical professional. We would NOT recommend Dr Peng as we feel we cannot trust her judgement, care, and integrity. Dr. Peng has been such a blessing in our lives. We have two daughters with a very rare disease. Our oldest daughter, Cali (now 20 years old) was misdiagnosed for 14 years and when our third (youngest) daughter, Ryann was born with same symptoms the doctors suggested aggressive steroids and treatments that could have been detrimental to our new baby's life. Dr. Peng happened to be the doctor on call at the hospital the next morning and she took the time to sit with us for hours and go through all of our oldest daughter's medical records. She determined that our baby did not need these aggressive treatments and the symptoms she was showing were actually a possible rare genetic disease. She was right! Years later when exome sequencing became available we found our diagnosis and it was in fact a very rare genetic disease. We say that she basically saved our baby's life. We have continued to see Dr. Peng for 10 years now. Both Cali and Ryann continue with her treatment. She is the most thorough and attentive doctor we have ever seen and we have seen A LOT of doctors over the last 20 years!! She is always current on research and developments and open minded to find the best answers to help our little girls. Dr. Peng is a lifesaver. When our son was two years old he started showing symptoms from the Autism spectrum, such as delayed speech, poor eye contact, difficulty communicating and mpulsive behavior. This was immediately brought to the attention of our pediatrician who said the behavior was normal. We even got a second and third opinion from other pediatricians but we knew deep down inside our son was being misdiagnosed, after all we were the ones who spent all our time with him. We were persistent in finding out if our son truly fell in the Autism spectrum which led us to Dr. Peng. Within the first hour of our meeting with the Dr., she easily confirmed without a doubt that he had high functioning autism. We have been seeing Dr Peng for over 10 years. Despite residing in 3 different states in my sons life and seeing neurologists every where we go I will rate Dr Peng as a 5 star without any question. My standard is higher than most as I am an RN educator who wants to know the why behind any and every thing happening with my son. My son's extreme complexity made him a challenge to many past specialists but Dr Peng was, and is, the only specialist who was committed to finding the diagnosis and pursuing a plan of care that met his needs and allowed us to help him meet his potential. She referred us to other specialists to treat issues not neurologically relevant and again each has been of the highest caliber. I travel over 200 miles round trip to attend appointments at her office and it is worth every minute spent in S. California freeways. I am updating my review due to Dr. Peng's response to my written complaint about her staff. Not only did she email me back an apology that evening but she then personally called me the next day and graciously offered to stay late to see my daughter. She was warm and welcoming and very knowledgable about my daughter's symptoms. We left there feeling confident in her assessment and treatment. The office was highly organized and immaculate. In addition, it seems that she normally has two front desk staff working and one was out sick the day I called which appears to be the cause of her apparent lack of concern. Dr.Peng is a phenomenal physician to both of my sons. She is very knowledgeable, patient and caring to our medical needs. She always take time to help us. My oldest son Jonathan is autistic with severe self injurious behavior . He had no words when we first started seeing Dr.Peng in 2015. With her great help and support , now he has more than 2000 vocabularies. He has gotten a lot better. Our family life has improved drastically. My youngest son Matthew was a very angry, resentful child due to our family situation. Matthew had no friends, never do any homework and always fighting with others. My child had been Dr. Peng's patient for several years from the time she was at CHOC neurology. She then left that group practice to start her own here at Mission Viejo. Since starting her own practice, we have observed the quality of care decline drastically. We had issues that needed her follow up and were instead ignored and stalled by her assistant Liseth on various occasions. It is now apparent that her priority and bottom line has transitioned to money now, and it's all about that. She no longer takes the time and care she used to with her patients.
