Whoever the fuck was driving 91 north on January 28 and passed the Dana Point transfer point (near the Denny's, where PCH meets Del Obispo) around 1:40 pm deserves a fucking lobotomy. They drove off just seconds after the 1 bus pulled up behind them, not before, after, leaving me and several senior citizens to wait a senseless half hour in the sun. If they had even two brain cells to rub together they would have waited ten measly seconds and we all could have transferred immediately. Absolutely mindless behavior. This transit is HELL ON WHEELS. The first bus on a line shouldn't make you late. Every morning almost the 42 going westbound supposed to arrive at Lincoln and Harbor by 4:30 am gets you there at 4:36 every Morning Monday - Thursday. Then I have to take a lyft that cost approximately 10$ each time she made me late to the connecting bus to my connecting bus that gets me to the 721 so that I'm not late to the 721 that leaves on time and gets me to work on time. But the inconsiderate driver that drives THE FIRST BUS Coach#7568 is always late, and to add insult to injury she makes me late 3 days out of the week and then when I call to file a formal complaint all I get is a bunch of I'm sorry this, I'm sorry that u had to go through that. No how much did it cost so we can at least replace the money you spent to make it to work on time by offering passes totaling what you spent. Just a bunch of lame ass I'm sorry' s. You cannot rely in OCTA to get you where you need to be on time. Route 47 / 47a is always either really late or really early, ( more than 6 minutes) and once in a while will not show up at all. Route 38 is ok, but again sometimes a bus will flat out not show up. I take the bus as an alternative means of transportation, and I am finding this to be more of a hassle than it ahould be. read more

Most of the time the driver are courteous and safe. Not tonight, I saw a bus drive down the bike and parking lanes for over 100 ft. forcing a merge just before the next intersection. One car swerved left and another hit the brakes hard in front of me to avoid being side swiped. Shame on the OCTA. Maybe the driver was having a bad day or maybe they were running behind schedule?? Once again, OCTA fails me! I was waiting at stop #2031 for route 37 to pick me up tonight at 6:42 PM. My intent was to take it to 1st Street and transfer to route 70 at stop #2022 @ 7:03 PM. Then I wanted to transfer to route 35 at stop #1995 @ 7:17PM. Well, as I was calling a taxi, the damned route 37 flew by at 7:05 PM. I missed my transfer, with not enough time to place a transfer request. The call center isn't open to phone and check on late busses. Why the hell am I paying $69 for a 30 day pass for this lousy service?! Now I have to spend money on a taxi because their tardiness left me stranded! read more

It is hard to imagine how an entity that serves the public can justify having its customer service counter open only from 8 to 5, Monday through Friday - and never on weekends. I guess if you work from 8 to 5, as most people do, and you need in-person assistance from the transportation authority, you're just kinda screwed. Presumably none of the big brains that "lead" OCTA have ever had the ingenious idea that, perhaps, having the OCTA store and customer service counter open on Saturday mornings, or even just one night a week till 7 o'clock, would be a good thing. Is staggering employee work hours that complicated? Wouldn't doing so - and expanding access - be a miraculous outreach to the community and, perhaps, allow OCTA transit users to hate the OCTA just a little bit less? read more

After the evaluation process completed in late 2011, I started traveling to medical appointments in January 2012. My experience with the Access program has been very good. The first year I traveled alone with my motorized wheelchair. From the beginning I have enjoyed the experience. Without exception, the buses have been clean and in good repair. The staff on the telephone establishing a schedule are helpful and efficient. And the drivers are friendly and provide a safe ride by securing my wheelchair with a variety of straps. After a few health challenges, I started traveling in a manual wheelchair with a personal care attendant. Generally, I use the Access service twice a week for both medical appointments and social activities. Using a manual wheelchair I have been transported by bus and cab. Both modes of transportation have been flawless. The 30 minute pickup range is spot on. With 200+ pickups! I have experienced only two delays. With so many employees it is rare to see repeat drivers. Using the cabs, I have had the good fortune to have David Bae, James Williams, Faisel, Seyed, Florenzia, Riperto and Chitra Ghimere. And some of my favorite bus drivers are Steve Raymond #1, Juan #5, Mariana Corona, Septinia, and Crystal. Stuff happens... so it is important to have realistic expectations. First this is a shared ride. The drivers have a prepared schedule. The route picking up and dropping off passengers is established. Just because you started out the first on the bus does not mean you will be dropped off first. Second, be prepared with the exact fare. Third you will be picked up at the location your were dropped off. If you are confused about the spot, ask in advance. My favorite part of the shared ride is enjoying neighborhoods and areas, I would not see otherwise. Thank you OCTA! You have made me a very happy customer!!! read more

I ride the metrolink everyday for 8 yrs now and get on a bus to finish my trip daily. But today when i got on the bus. I was informed by the bus driver that had pay to get back to the train station in fullerton. I was being told bad information by her. So i called their office was told driver was wrong for telling everyone with a train pass had to pay for now on. Piss poor service and badd information. The lady bus driver did not know what she talking about. She was very rude and was missinform as always. I want my money back. This female was loud and very rude to all metrolink riders. She stated that we had yo pay to get to the train for on. So if you have this problem have them call dispatch asap. If they refuse to do this than request to have a Field Supervisor coming to that location as soon as possible. In the OCTA booklet on page 10 it is in black and white we can ride a bus back to the train station using our train pass. She made everyone with a train pass for a ride. Than she made everyone miss all their connecting bus or train. Everyone just wanted to home safe and sound but had to run into ONE FEMALE BUS DRIVER FROM OCTA who was rude, loud and did know she talking about. She making up new rules and stating that was the way it is for now on. So i paid my fare and i want my money back. She made a lady from Disneyland pay for a ride also. She had a metrolink pass and was told that is pass is No GOOD going back to the train station. So pay the fare $2.00. After working 10 hrs a person tired and sleep. read more

Whoever planned the 405 fwy closure on Sat the 26th is a complete idiot. You had 1000's of motorist in gridlock for nearly 4 hours delay, till 430 in the morning. If you are going to close the busiest fwy in the world, then you must make some necessary arrangements to aid the flow somehow. A complete disaster. You get funded from the federal government to complete these projects, so do it right people. Or we will find someone that will. Late, late, late..this bus system sucks. The 47 is never on time. I left my house at 1010 the bus should of been there at 1030 but it came at 1059 wth?! With real time info, I have to bump this up to 4. This is a big time saver. I can pass along the info to other riders too when needed, especially when I see people walking out to the middle of the road to check on the bus. Please advertise this on the bus. I told two co-workers, both didn't know about it and thank me for it. 5 stars are given to the bus drivers that make courtesy stops to let people off at a red light. You know how much time you save OCTA riders. Thank you for making the world a little better place, and I'm not kidding. It's a actually safer move, then seeing people running through traffic catching the bus. OCTA is far from perfect, but for suburbia oc, this is acceptable. It's frustrating when I miss the connecting bus because the last bus is late, or when the connecting is late, or when the bus breaks down (quite rare though), etc. but for now, thanks to real time info and the courtesy stop drivers, I can say the experience is a little more enjoyable. read more

He cans from the carpool lane, and he was going pretty fast. When I called to file a complaint I got transferred to some guys voicemail and his voicemail kept cutting me off after I was trying to start the message with my name. I've been taking 213A bus between Irvine and Brea for almost 2 years now. A few people on this bus have been taking it for over 5 years. We love the route, the riders, the drivers, the service. Wish we have a more comfortable bus though. For a couple weeks now, we've had more people (who are becoming regular riders) on the bus. We are packed morning and afternoon, so I hope OCTA is adding 1 more 213A. You'll definitely get more riders, if you add the 2nd bus about half and hour after the first, morning and afternoon. read more

For the past year I have been riding on the route 50 bus. Everything has noticeably improved. The buses are on time during the morning, although they tend to run late in the afternoon. I see the drivers trying their best to stay on schedule. The buses are clean for the most part. The biggest problem is the passengers. A lot of them are stupid, slow, and annoying. That stands to reason as most of them need to take the bus as they couldn't hold down a job long enough to buy a car. If the OCTA had some kind of idiot repellent it would make taking the bus a pleasure. read more

So a couple weekends ago we went to the OC Fair. A friend told us you could buy OCTA bus tickets for their OC Fair Express and you get Fair tickets for $3. Sounds like a deal-- Save on parking, they do the driving, and the 4 of us get in cheap. Well we waited at the bus stop at the Fullerton Depot (which is pretty sketchy) and 3 arrival times came and went without a bus showing up. We walked back home and took the car to the fair. I already spent $20 on the bus passes, so now I paid $10 to park, and while in line to buy full price tickets, I see the Fullerton Bus at the drop off point. I run over to the bus and there is a supervisor standing outside the door talking to the driver. I explained how we waited and they never came. The supervisor was quick to say "Yeah, we had a situation there" and he gave me the 4 coupons to get in for the reduced price. Very nice of him. The next day, I write a nice polite email to the OCTA customer Service Dept and explain what happened and asked for a refund. A week later they asked me for the receipt number and more details. I replied immediately with the requested info. Then 2 weeks later they send me this canned response and I'm pretty ticked. It read: "Unfortunately, the terms and Conditions indicate that all sales are final and we can not issue refunds for tickets." So, they can take my money for tickets, and never send a bus to the station, and we're just out of luck. That is BS! read more

At the bus stop near the Tustin LIbary, as I tried to get out the front door, because the drive pulled up to the curb poorly.... A young hispanic woman was standing at the door, taling to the driver as if she knew him well, and refused to move until a boading passenger, who she also knew, blocked the aisle. The driver said that CEO Darrel Johnson would exuse anything he did, and would back him up completely when asked. The driver's job is to facilitate people getting off the bus, but Darrel will exonderate any poor perfomance in this area, while this driver clearly needs to be retained. This is why OCTA no longer wins awards, under the able leadership of Janet Nguyen and others, including Darrel Johnson. The driver implied thatCEO Johnson wants drivers to lie about passengers, or, with his approval, they can do anything they want to, espcially with "certain" passegers. Were OCTA coach operators or passengers robbed or assaulted because the CEO "backs up this drivers with certain passengers"? The coach operator became visibly anxious about any information being sent to Darrel Johnson, and then wanted to deny his previous comment. I think this means we will have improved service soon. No one should accept this kind of treatment. read more

From the perspective of an out of towner in for the week, there are some pros and cons of this system. I took the OCTA bus from my hotel in Santa Ana (Bristol) to Laguna Beach and back on a weekday afternoon / evening. In town on business and had some time to kill. This review is based only on that experience. Pros: The drivers I had were friendly and helpful. The buses were on-time enough. The price was right. For 5.00, you get a day pass that gets you anywhere the bus goes which is really lots of places. This is an amazing price when compared to any other transport options (Uber, cab, rental car, etc) Most of the stops I used (along the 57 and 1 routes) were well-marked, well-lit and seemed safe, at least in the early evening. The directions in Google maps seemed pretty good. The bus itself and service was fine. Maybe 5-10% of the riders seemed to be just regular local people getting off work or going to the beach. None of the riders seemed hostile to me in particular. Cons: Maybe I'm naive about these things, but there seemed to be a substance abuse issue on the buses and stops I was on. In the course of a couple hours in mid-afternoon, I saw a a couple slurringly drunk couples, an uber-thin guy who looked like he was trying to scratch bugs from under his skin and couldn't sit upright at all, a woman who was talking about being homeless while getting felt up by an obnoxious slurring-drunk guy who wouldn't shut up about a wide variety of things and a generally inebriated cast of characters talking about various substances.The stop in Newport Center had several people who appeared to be living out of suitcases sleeping there and guys smoking something that didn't smell like tobacco or weed while sitting less than 5 feet from the other riders. Also Newport Center station has some really fast mice (possibly due to whatever that dude was smoking and exhaling into the air nearby) Other than that, stops weren't announced very clearly, but what public transportation system has well-announced stops? On the whole, I'm glad I rode OCTA to the beach, but probably wouldn't do it again on account of the clientele. A cab ride was pricing out at at least 10 times this price, so the bus was a good deal. Would be nice if there was a mid-tier weekday transport option between paying 5.00 (weekday intoxicated bus pass) and 50.00 (cab). read more
