Shoutout to our local community heroes! We called ahead of time to ask if Chicago hot dogs were available today. And we were so excited to hear a "Yes, Mam" ! So even though it was fixin' to rain hard, it was a mission we accepted! We are grateful to have the opportunity to grab some Chicago style "glizzy", because it one of our favorites ever since my husband went to Chicago for business. Wow! The Orange Tree takes me back to my childhood (long ago) when Regency Square Mall was a popular place to hangout. Today it is tucked into a shopping center at Hodges and Beach. I loved my experience at this adorable tiny restaurant. The staff are amazing and so nice!! They're located in the shopping plaza by kid to kid Hodges. There is plenty of parking nearby. YESSSSS Then we pulled in and John got out of the car and asked why we hadn't been here sooner- because they advertised ice cream on the window clings and John is the biggest ice cream lover. Apparently an epic fail on my part. If you need a junk food fix- this is the place! I ordered a lonely corn dog and fries drowning in cheese and bacon! John ordered a pair of corn dogs and after 2 dogs and half the large order of fries still had room for ice cream. I was full and declined even a lick of his ice cream. Stuffed full. There are a number of good dogs to be had here, but the best seems to be the nostalgia dog. Just a perfectly aesthetic wiener and bun with your choice of toppings. Normally, being super generic is a negative in my book, but this place plays it as a strength. The crispiness of the bun in the pizza dog was a very nice touch though. Please don't judge my condiments too harshly. I actually love all condiments, and that's just how I felt at the moment. My friend showed me this place one day on our break from work and it's been my favorite spot to go to when I'm craving hot dogs! I was scanning through Yelp liking my friends pictures and check-ins and came across this spot which is close to my house. Upon arrival at Orange Tree Hot Dogs I was greeted with a friendly hello. I ordered a hot dog with chili, onions and mustard. I was told that they make their own chili, coleslaw and all the hot items are made to order. I also ordered a small fry and small soda. There were roughly 6 tables in the restaurant but I found an open booth and settled in. My food arrived in less than 5 minutes and was steaming hot. The hot dog with chili was nostalgic. It reminded me of a place back home where I used to eat when I was in college. The chili sauce was packed with flavor and they did not skimp on the onions. My fries were hot, fresh and delicious. I was riding back from Octoberfest with Uber and the driver mentioned the Orange Tree to me. I knew instantly that as soon as I got to my vehicle, I would drive straight there. It's been a very long time since they left Regency Square Mall. I walked in with two nice gentleman & with a warm greeting from them. I ordered a cole slaw hot dog, French fries and an Orange Smoothie drink. I ordered a side of the onion sauce(too spicy for me-50 cents for a side of this). We were tickled to find there is still an Orange Tree in Jax. Having a bite of an Orange Tree hot dog was like tasting our teenage years. Funny how that's possible, but it was like nostalgia in your mouth. We have made the drive a few times just to satisfy the craving for a slaw dog and orange frost. The guy who works here has always been friendly and the service is fast. There are numerous things on the menu like pizza, burgers, various appetizers, Philly cheese steaks, and Hershey's hand dipped ice cream. I have fond memories of Orange Tree back when they used to be in the mall. Skipping school and eating Orange Tree hot dogs while playing video games - good times! This place brought a little of that magic back for me. The Orange Julius is no longer called the Orange Julius just an Orange Frost but it is just as delicious! This location serves hot dogs, personal sized pizzas, and ice cream. Very delicious although the pizza is a little dry like a frozen pizza from the store , I am going to skip over ordering that next time.
