Reposting the review I wrote over two years ago but will update with the fact that I had spinal fusion surgery last year and OTF was part of my rehab. Coaches Donavan, Fidel, and Rebecca were super understanding with my rehab process and made sure that I had alternate exercise while my back was healing. It really is an outstanding gym with a great culture. The place is super accepting and supportive of everyone. Original review: A gym for people who don't like the gym. I am over 50 and in acceptable but not amazing shape. I walk 3mi a day but I knew I needed to supplement. Heard good things about OTT and took a class. Here are the key points: - They use tech to monitor your heart rate so you get an optimal workout. - The coaches recognize that some percentage of the work is just showing up. They respect that you made the effort and are very supportive and helpful. They push you but not in an uncomfortable way. - Alternate options for exercises are offered if you need any accommodation. - Most important, there is 100% acceptance of everyone, no matter where you are in your journey. Some are trying to lose weight, some are rehabbing injury, some are athletes that have done 100s of classes. There is NO judgement and it is NOT a competition, which is refreshing in this day and age. - You don't have to think. They tell you what to do. And there are monitors that show animations of the exercises. Again, not a gym person, just tell me what to do in a fashion that I won't hurt myself and that works for me! - It is all a bit overwhelming at first. Stay with it and like anything, it becomes more familiar. Things switch up quickly sometimes and I have to wear earplug because the music is too loud for me but after several classes, I got the hang of it. - Coaches and staff all have a great attitude. They have a great culture. Very well run. read more

I would have to agree with a few reviewers who mentioned their aggressive sales tactics and has no transparency regarding additional fees, at least for this location. My friend, who had a membership, signed me up with her guest pass. When we got there, they asked for $25 for the guest session - this came as a surprise as we had called earlier to ensure it was a trial run - I had asked if we could waive this as they didn't state this earlier before signup. They refused and demanded payment (really what's $25 to corporate? Horrible management, that left a bad taste at the start). We paid it grudgingly and went through with the class. Maybe it was the class I took that specific evening but literally all I did was run on a treadmill for 50 minutes, definitely not worth the $25... then a few minutes before class ended the front desk lady came to pressure me into signing up for a membership. I had politely declined yet she kept aggressively pushing and just turned away abruptly after she realized I wouldn't budge. Honestly I thought the group atmosphere was inspirational and the coach was fine but their sales/front desk girls were rude and condescending. I might have considered joining at another time, but after this experience, never at this location. read more

I'm having the worst experience with Orange Theory of Poway. I joined the gym and was later injured, which left me medically unable to continue using the facility. I canceled my membership, provided a doctor's note, and explained my situation, yet I am still being charged. In my view, continuing to charge a member who is medically unable to use the gym is unacceptable and against California laws. I'm currently disputing the charges with my credit card company and filing a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs and California Attorney General. For everyone considering this place, please know that the "flexible membership" described by staff and advertised online did not reflect my experience. It is truly a 3-month minimum commitment and a misleading practice, regardless of medical circumstance. I'm very disappointed about the lack of resolution. read more

Beware: Aggressive sales tactics and unauthorized charges I attended a free introductory class at Orangetheory Poway on July 22, hoping to explore different studios before committing. Leading up to the class, I received constant calls and emails reminding me to arrive early for the required 30-minute pre-class "tour" and orientation. From the start I began to feel front desk's heavy presence before, during, and after class check-ins as a means to sign up for a membership, without presenting any class package alternatives. It was clear they were focused on making a sale, not allowing me to decide if this studio is the right fit for me. During the class, I was pulled aside 10 minutes before it ended to begin the hard sell on membership--despite communicating that I did not want to commit at this time. After the class, I just wanted to go home -- Instead, I ended up staying 20+ minutes past the class end time, feeling pressured and overwhelmed. I was charged without signing any terms agreement. Workout: Circuit-style -- solid enough. Business practice: Way too pushy. Left a bad taste. Doesn't feel respectful of customer choice or transparency. I called the studio the next morning to change my membership and dispute the charge, I was told my profile would be noted and to wait for a manager to respond in 1-2 days. I call again three days later and was told the issue was "being sent to management" with no resolution yet. They insisted on sticking to the first month charge and 30-day cancellation policy. The circuit-style workout is effective, but the business practices are aggressive, misleading, and frustrating. I've disputed the charge with my bank and shared my experience here so others can be aware. read more

I've been attending Orangetheory for a year now, and it's completely changed my relationship with running! I never really enjoyed running before, but after joining Orangetheory, I've fallen in love with it. I started with a 10-minute mile, and now I'm hitting personal records with my fastest mile at 7:12 - something I never imagined I could do! The facilities are always clean, and the front desk team is so friendly and welcoming. Big thanks to Jesse for always making me feel at home when I walk in! What I love most is how convenient the class times are - I can easily fit in a class during my lunch break. Nicole is such a fun and motivating coach, and she makes every class feel exciting while helping me push myself to new heights. If you're looking for a supportive and motivating environment to help you reach your fitness goals, I highly recommend this Orangetheory location in Poway! Fidel Z led a super high energy and motivating class and brought the best out of me and my partner. We had said to each other "it might be a walking day" on the treadmills and boom- Fidel had us running at 9.5 with his charisma and spirit! We were also so impressed with the community at this studio where everyone was interacting and smiling and chatting in the lobby. Today was my 521st class and still loving it! After about 17 years of an inconsistent exercise routine, I joined OTF a couple years ago in prep for my daughter's wedding which was coming up in about 6 months. By wedding time, I looked a bit better but more than that, I felt so much stronger and healthier. Ever since, I haven't ever considered not continuing (usually 5x per week!) The amazing coaches, the welcoming community, the challenging workouts all contribute to what makes OTF-Poway so special. You can be any age and fitness level and you'll fit right in. SCREW THIS GYM! I signed up for a 7:10 class because it's literally the only time I can go. It was an absolute struggle for me to get here at 7:10 and this snotty little brat won't let me take this class because she needs to "show me around?" It's a one room gym, and it's just a trial class. It's not my first time in a gym. If I actually decide to sign up, then you can show me around your one room gym and show me where the bathroom is. NEVER in my life have I been turned away from taking a workout class because they need to show me around for 20 min. She should be fired! And how stupid to turn away a client when there is competition on every corner! Literally, Anytime Fitness and Planet Fitness across the street!!!! TRUELY ABHORRENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

I've been a "gym-rat" all my life, but I took off about 18 years while my kids were growing. When I went back, I first started at the big-box gyms. .. Then I discovered Orange Theory (OTF) It's a great, varied workout that provides both cardio and resistance training. I thought I was fit, but OTF took me to a whole new level of fitness and health. Where do I even start? Orangetheory Poway is absolutely amazing! The coaches are incredible--so motivating, knowledgeable, and always keeping the class energized. They know what they're doing and will give you modifications if needed, which has been so helpful for me. The staff is super welcoming and helpful, even at 5:00 AM! The members are also great--everyone is encouraging and supportive, making it such a positive environment. I'm completely addicted to this place! We had a very awkward and off putting experience here... basically, we signed up for a "free class" ... and they ask that you arrive early so you can be introduced to the gym and how it all works , etc. During this time we got chatting with the studio manager and were asked about our fitness goals/ what we were looking for in terms of a membership, etc. I had no idea what I said was going to be used against me. i expressed that I had been a member a verrrrry long time ago and was interested in coming back and introducing my husband to OTF as a thing we could do together. I mentioned that some of my coworkers told me about a program through our work that gave discounts at various studios, OTF being one of them. I literally mentioned that I never known about this program and thought it was a cool perk of my job. Again, we were just chatting, or so I thought. We did mention we were interested in buying "class packs" but werent totally decided on what direction we wanted to go bc we were also potentially interested in a membership Anyways, she stepped away to "talk to her manager" , which was weird , but we didn't think anything of it . She came back & we proceeded in the gym to be shown how use the equipment, etc . After allll that, she then proceeded to tell us our class would NOT be free... we would have to pay for a drop rate of $28/class- bc in order to use the free class option, I would have to do it through my work program. What?? It was all SO bizarre bc we weren't even signed up for that program at all, didn't know anything about it... we just casually mentioned it as a reason for coming in the first place. OTF is very expensive.... Sorry for trying to find an affordable way to be apart of a cool community. I didn't realize we would be treated differently because of it. We ended up leaving and not even doing the class.... We just felt confused and awkward about the whole thing ... It just all felt incredibly misleading and disingenuous . The "friendliness" only goes so far IF you're going to sign up with them ... NOT if you're going to use a first responder discount program through your work. We went home and after more research, i found out that this discount program is a completely separate thing that you pay monthly for in exchange for "discounted classes", etc (similar to class pass- it's a way to try a whole bunch of different studios/gyms) . But, low and behold they didn't even offer OTF class packs or a membership we would have considered So alllll this to say... we would have signed up directly with OTF in the end anyways However, the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouth and we have zero interest in giving this studio our business. I think OTF is great.... But won't be coming back to this location. It's such a shame bc we were really excited about it On a positive note, coach Fidel was awesome ... and the members coming in/out seemed very welcoming and friendly. read more

Otf is the first gym I have been motivated to commit to. I love the variety in the workouts and it flies by when I am in there. I always feel great after and I see myself getting stronger. Poway also has the most amazing coaches! I genuinely like and appreciate every coach that I have had there. They all are friendly, know how to encourage and motivate, give great pointers and tips, and keep the class super fun. read more

I started at Orangetheory thinking I would only be there for a couple of months because I wanted to get some baseline fitness back. Fast-forward almost 2 years later and there's no chance I would ever leave! The staff and trainers at OTF Poway are incredible! I've found a great sense of community which goes a long way when trying to reach your fitness goals. The coaches are great and the workouts are challenging. The workouts are different every day, so you get a great well rounded workout throughout the week working on different muscles and cardio. The coaches are super friendly and well versed in training. It's a loud and amplified 60 or 90 minutes and well worth it. They have challenges and benchmarks and contests and themed dress up days to keep you motivated throughout the year. read more

I don't even know where to begin as to what the Poway studio means to me! I have been coming here 6 months after they opened it. It was the best decision I've ever made! Wonderful wrap around service from all the front desk staff! They make you feel incredibly welcome every time you walk in! The trainers become like family! No joke! OTF (OrangeTheory Fitness) is such a positive gym vibe! Coach and front desk are friendly and the workouts can be modified if needed (just let the coach know before class). U have an arm band and the goal is to spend ~12 mins in the red/orange heart rate zones to earn "splat points" which u can track through the 1 hour class. Those splats translate to after-burn of calories 24-72 hours after the class is over. Easiest way to earn those spats is on the treadmill portion of class. I like that the classes are doable and there's plenty of rest breaks in between different workouts. I also love that u can track your progress in the app and on the screen throughout class. The first class is free, so i'd suggest checking it out and seeing if it's the right workout program for you but if you're like me where u need just a little bit of guidance during your workout, it's a great option. Membership can be kind of pricey (under $200/month for unlimited but they have per class options) and it helps me stay accountable and attend. They don't have much of a grace period if you're late to class but that's another way it helps me to stay accountable and get there in time. Also I felt self conscious at first but realized the coaches are pretty hands off and just are there in case you need help with having the correct form. The floor workouts are on the TV screen for every one to follow or announced by the coaches when on the treadmill and it helps you just follow the directions and not have to think or know what a certain workout is called since it's demo'ed for you. Great for a beginner who hasn't worked out before or intermediate/advanced athletic person because you can go at your own weight and pace. read more

The Poway OTF team is the absolute best! I'm 60 years old and was nervous about joining a gym again after a long break. But from the moment I stepped into my first class, I was greeted with a warm welcome and felt right at home. It's been almost a year, and their warmth and welcoming attitude have remained consistent in every class. The classes strike a perfect balance between cardio, core building, and strength training. Regardless of your physical ability or fitness level, the coaches provide support and modifications to ensure everyone can participate and benefit. Each coach I've had has been enthusiastic and encouraging throughout the workouts. During each exercise they teach proper technique to maximize the benefits and minimize the risk of strain or injury. OTF is definitely for those who are busy and live off a schedule (not that it's a bad thing lol). Pre Covid I was an active gym goer and my local gym eventually closed permanently so slowly lost motivation during the "lockdown". Ever since I struggled to find that motivation and a fitness routine/gym/studio that I felt comfortable with until I started OTF. This studio is super clean with emergency girly/manly needs in the restrooms! They also have the friendliest workers and members who are supportive and inspiring. They definitely try to include everyone and try to make it a closer community. I've been going to this studio for about 6months and my endurance and physical appearance has definitely improved. OTF Poway is great! Everyone at the front desk is so nice, energetic, and try their best to remember your name and preferences. The coaches are knowledgeable and make all the workouts unique and fun with different themes. It's clear they really believe in helping you achieve/celebrate your fitness goals. Best fitness program ever! I have been a member for 7 years and have over 1,000 classes. I have never stuck to a fitness program this long. I am telling you if I can do it anybody can do it. It could be any beginner who has no fitness experience. They work with all levels and signing up for classes and attending makes you feel accountable and they create the templates and just tell you what to do so I dont have to think. It is also a testament to the studio. They have the best front desk folks, but the coaches are what really make the experience. Jarvis is my guy-best energy , support and music out there. His Sunday classes are a party! Jolen is my Tuesday and Thursday guy and he has really been helping me with my form and improving. I so appreciate his coaching. Taylor is freaking bad ass and her energy, caring and support makes us all feel special. It really is the people and it feels like you are apart of a whole community. I travel a lot for work so I can go into any Orangetheory in the country and it will be the same experience.. read more

Every day is a new challenge-- fresh and interesting- and the coaches especially in Poway are top notch.
