There was quite a bit to keep track of on my first workout. There are screens and multiple exercises happening at once for different groups. But once I got into the flow of how my effort level and exertion correlated with the metrics, I can definitely see the benefits of the system. They had one of the trainers workout in the group with me, which made it MUCH easier to follow. I felt GREAT after this workout. read more

I was interested in signing up for a class and reached out during their Black Friday promotion. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get in at the time, so I was waiting until after Christmas to sign up. Then, I received a text message shaming me for eating "yummy treats" during the holidays and telling me I need to get to the gym to achieve my "summer body." I was livid. I responded back stating how harmful that message can be and was met with pseudo apologies. From what I can tell, this location has no empathy for people with body image issues. They will shame you and dig their heels in stating they care about a "healthy and balanced lifestyle." Perpetuating shame and attributing to mental health issues such as body dysmorphia and eating disorders is not healthy nor balanced. I sincerely hope they take this review as a teaching moment. Their staff is involved in a very vulnerable aspect of people's lives and there are healthier ways to promote their company. This is definitely not one of them. read more

I have enjoyed the workouts here, but their business practices are so shady as other people mention. Their cancellation policy requires you to cancel in person even thought they let you sign up by phone. I upgraded to unlimited classes and they didn't mention that changed my payment date. Months later when I went to cancel by my payment date, I found out I was four days beyond my NEW payment date, and they are making me wait basically 2 months to cancel. I've been a member for nearly 6 years on and off and they claim they have no exceptions to the cancellation policy. I will not be returning to this place. read more

I have been coming to the OTF at the Triangle for a bit over a year. Like any trendy exercise fad, there are positives and negatives. In general, the staff and coaches are friendly, approachable, and reasonable. The studio space is clean & neat, even though it can feel a bit cramped in the waiting area, especially with the more crowded classes. Be ready for a long restroom wait on these occasions. Cons: their app is pretty terrible, and there's two of them that you have to bounce between (one to manage your schedule the other to track your workout stats). Weekend class availability it too limited for my tastes (not a lot of afternoon / evening workouts). Their sign up and cancellation system also takes some getting used to (you'll get charged if you late cancel or skip a class you signed up for), but with some pre-planning it's pretty manageable. If you're fairly experienced with exercise, and weight and strength training in particular, OTF is a great way to get a lot of bang for your time, since you'll get a bit of it all in the one hour workout. However, if you're not experienced, the pace can feel a bit overwhelming, and the class just isn't set up to get you a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches--this is particularly worrisome to me when I see people using weights and performing exercises with poor form or worse, in an unsafe manner. The vibe is exciting though, (think loud music, enthusiastic instructors, lots of high fives, club-like orange-hued lighting) and it can help to get you pumped about an hourlong workout. They also do monthly themes/activities/drives to help motivate members. The OTF workout philosophy is centered around your heart rate, and 4 zones of exertion--you get "splat" points for every minute you spend in the orange and red zones. If you take their word for it, you're supposed to reap continued calorie burn even after your workout, as long as you get at least 12 splat points. I'm not too sure of the science behind this claim, but whether you hit 12 or not, you're definitely getting some sort of workout and that's better than nothing if you ask me! read more

Just wanted to update my review! I loved going to Orangetheory Triangle and loved the instructors. However, I canceled my membership back in July because I was moving. I filled out the cancellation form, but to my surprise today (September 22nd), I discovered that I am STILL being charged. I understand the cancellation doesn't kick in for a while, and I was fine with paying for August (even though it's still a bad cancellation policy). However, it's unacceptable that now - at the end of September - Orange Theory triangle is continuing to charge me even though I filled out the cancellation form mid July. When I called the studio today, I was told that they would "try" to fix this for me. I've been going to Orange theory for 5+ years, and this makes me never want to join again in the future. read more

I've been coming to this location since I moved to Austin in 2019. I can't find a better workout than Orangetheory and this location is great. They always have motivating coaches, a front desk staff that has learned my name and always asks how I am and awesome community events. I would recommend OTF to anyone who wants to better their fitness and burn calories in less than one hour. Coaches are super cool and support staff makes it easy. I've basically having to pay for an extra month of classes and am finding out 2 weeks in that they can't refund my account, although they said they would refund me my fee and call me if there are any problems. I scheduled several weeks in advance for a 5:30pm class with 4 other girl friends to try Orangetheory out for the first time. We've heard great things about not only the classes, but this location in particular. Some of us were called the day of our class to arrive at 5:00pm for a quick orientation. I showed up a few minutes late, as did another girl. We were both given the "schpiel" about the company, classes, and how it works. Then, we went into the training room with the coach, along with a few other newbies. At 5:15pm, the rest of my group arrives and we're strictly told that they COULD NOT go into the training room because they should've arrived at 5. I understand that if that's the policy, it needs to be communicated beforehand in such a way that if we don't show up by that time, we cannot attend the class. One of the front desk girls rudely talked down to my friend as if she had done something terribly wrong. Mind you, this is during rush hour and an accident had occurred on the road that prevented many people from arriving on time - new and existing clients. So, this employee proceeds to enter the training room and tells me and my other girl friend that our friend was the one who wanted us to leave the class and stand outside with her (this was never true because she even told us to just attend without her). Confused, I stood with my friends in front of the front desk for 30 minutes without anyone communicating to us what was going on. Finally, a man named Stephen walks to us and tries to address the issue. While we understood the policy, we didn't appreciate having an employee talk rudely to one of our friends. We didn't appreciate standing around for 30 minutes without anyone saying so much as "please give me a few more minutes and I'll be with you to figure this out." Ultimately, Orangetheory lost 4 women who were willing to purchase classes. The man's solution to this? He tried to "throw in" the $100 heart rate monitors (or whatever it is they sell) as a courtesy. First of all, it's not about the money or getting something free in return. It's the common courtesy that staff should show to customers and potential customers alike. Secondly, it's the principle of enforcing a policy so that people understand BEFORE they show up, albeit 10-15 minutes late, that they can't attend the class if they're not on time. Had this been communicated to us (not threateningly, of course), we would've all tried our best to either arrive way earlier in anticipation of traffic, or reschedule to a later time overall. I just had to add to my review that the OTF in the Triangle just got the new treadmills so you don't have to strain your neck to see your stats! Absolutely love this and it has really improved my treadmill experience. It's been 4 months since my first review and I am down to my high school weight. I'm wearing the smallest size I've ever fit into, have noticed my mood is almost always positive and I actually feel strong and have the muscles to show it. When they're trying to sell you on a membership, staff/coaches are attentive. My 2nd class was so lame compared to the first - I still had confusion upon arrival and throughout the class, which was different from my intro class, and got no help from the coach. Also, they said I could cancel for free after 30 days if I was dissatisfied, which I was, and then the girl at the front desk said I had to pay another month b/c you have to give 30 days notice lol. So which is it? WTF OTF. Make sure you get absolute clarity from them before signing away your hard earned money. Just seems like any other franchised gym trying to make sales at the end of the day. My personalized experience ended the moment I signed up and took a photo for their IG page. Then when I completed the form to leave, I never received a follow up call or even a confirmation from them. Where my humans at? Feels pretty disingenuous. A note on the workouts: I'm an avid workout-at-home girl, mostly of the Beachbody variety. I have several DVD's and pay for their streaming service. I was under the impression I'd get a slightly more personal touch from the trainers but that wasn't the case after the first class. I recommend asking yourself what you're trying to get out of going in-person before paying them a dime. I could keep up with the fast pace at OTF but could see how it'd be confusing for total workout newbies. You won't get much individual attention on your form without asking for it, definitely not after the first class. Seems like the trainers have a lot on their plate between playing dj, amping you up constantly with their "let's get ready to rumble" voice, and rapidly firing off instructions with a short demonstration on form. It was just all a bit hokey and artificial in my opinion. The workouts themselves were fine once you knew what you were doing but in no way are they better than the ones I've done at home for less than half the price. Guess it just depends on if being around other people in person and the trainer's voice and music helps you hold yourself accountable. Not really something I need to get motivated and definitely not worth the money. Now I know. Kicking myself for wasting almost $300 in 2 months with OTF. Oof. Don't be like me! That's my opinion. I like this OTF the best out of any of the Austin or Kyle locations. I've seen other studios not require masks (horrible! 25 people w no masks in a small room w the door closed. Bad bad bad idea--or have people taking masks off for an extended period of time and don't say anything) though the city/state requires them for gatherings over 10. And honestly I love the coaches I've had here. So many times coaches from other studios will talk nonstop - it is annoying! These coaches at this location explain the movements, alternative movements, make sure your form is correct, and let you do your thing w good music. All while making sure people have masks on! I feel the most safe at this location. I wish I didn't have to drive 30 min to get here...but other locations should take notes on how this one is run. read more

I have been going to OT for a month and have LOVED it but I took a class at the Triangle this morning at 9:30am for the first time and had to write this. All the other locations I've tried (Leander, Arbor Town, Domain) have been fantastic but this one...Ugh! I got there early, signed in early at the desk so the girl highlighted my name that I was there, and I filled out my paperwork well before class. My name never showed up on the screen but I never worried because so many others didn't either. By the time I realized it was a problem I was 30 minutes in and switching to the treads. I left class to go to the desk and some guy/trainer who was super busy talking with the group of trainers at the desk said it was my fault and I should have said something at the start of class. Well, of the 20ish people in class several were not on the screen so I though nothing of it at the start of class, I thought only the treads were on the screen and I started on the weight floor so I didn't stress it. My arm band was on so no bigger. I was signed in and they knew what they were doing. It was NOT my responsibility to know how that shop worked as it was my FIRST TIME THERE! I checked in like I have at every other class. No other shop has every had an issue. I am very disappointed that I lost all the points I would have earned and was treated so rudely. He said it was now "too late to put me on the screen" and walked away. My armband has been on the whole time, how had it not been linked?! What was the cluster of trainers doing over there the whole time??? I will also say that the AC was clearly not working - he claimed it "hadn't been turned on yet" - bs. The place was dirty and smelled and sweltering. It is 95 degrees right now! I will NEVER be back. read more

AVOID! I have been trying to pause/cancel my and my ex-boyfriend's membership for literal months. The manager told me he would take care of it, but I was still charged the next month. I contacted him again, he told me he would take care of it again, but I was again charged the next month. I have now been charged for 3 months I never set foot in the studio, and the manager has stopped responding to my texts. I don't even live in Austin anymore. I am not even dating the guy anymore! I'm such a big fan of this studio. First, I've lost about 15 pounds since joining a year ago. Second, the manager, Mr. Garza, has been there since I started going back in December 2016, and he's super accessible. He's also one of the coaches (for real, everyone there is crazy fit) and he plays the best music. And the rest of the front of house staff are also nice and accommodating as well - McKayla is the staff I normally get to interact with because I do the early workouts, but Sara and Jardin have also been super helpful and kind in all of my interactions with them. Third, and this is from a self-identifying fat kid -- this place makes it ALMOST enjoyable to work out. There's gamification through the heart rate monitor showing your oxygen intake on screens throughout the studio, inspiring you to work more intensely. The coaches are silly, supportive, and funny -- I normally see Coach Josh, Coach Elvis, and Coach Stephen, but I've had Coaches Eli, Elise, Kristina, J2, and Michael and they all bring their own flavor to the process. And the music playlist is almost always good. Fourth, the benefits of signing up at the Triangle means you can visit other studios when you travel. I've been to gyms in Boca Raton, DC, and in Houston -- all included in the rate I pay to my home studio. I almost, almost love this place. Because, you know, exercise. Check them out. read more

I have been going to Orange Theory Triangle for over a year. I am in the best shape of my life doing this workout! I love this location because the coaches are amazing, and always keep it fun! If you are a beginner like I was and quite out of shape you can go at your own pace. The coaches will help you modify any exercise to accommodate injuries. Everyone is so friendly... SOOO FRIENDLY. We took the class for free to check out what OTF is all about... I've certainly heard lots about it. Overall, 4 stars for a clean facility and fantastic workout. I was sore the next 2 days and instantly felt stronger. We used the chest monitors they loaned us, which we don't think worked very well. It didn't seem well calibrated but they explained that because they constantly loan out these monitors, it takes a while for the monitor to provide correct data for the person consistently using it. The assistant manager was kind enough to offer us to come back and try the class again, but this time using the watch monitor (which is probably more accurate). I'm currently using Class Pass because I like the variety of classes offered but I think OTF is great if you have some serious fitness goals. It's circuit training and you spend about 15 minutes at each station (rowing machines, treadmills, and weights/strength training). Great workout! My friend said she took a fat nap after the workout. This review is focused on the experience at this location of Orange Theory and will not delve into the basics of the franchise (heart-rate monitored interval workouts standardized across locations). This location is proud of being one of the biggest Orange Theory studios--and you as a customer pay the price in the cramped weight-lifting area. It is hard to focus on the workout when you have to constantly move out of the way for people entering and leaving the studio. Even front desk staff don't wait until the workout is over to walk through the lifting area to access another office with a door that opens into a weightlifting station's already limited square footage. Word is that the Triangle studio is going to add even more workout stations so the situation is only going to get worse. Other locations are expected to open in Austin soon on South Lamar and Westlake--if you're a fan of OT workouts like I am, let's hope these new locations learn from the mistakes made at Triangle. read more

Alright, people have been a little extreme on the reviews here so far. Yes, they opened up months later than originally planned, but that wasn't totally in their control. I can't speak for the people who tried to cancel before their first month was up; I wouldn't be surprised if there was miscommunication on the part of OrangeTheory and that's human error for you. But if you're going to come here for at least a month, here's the experience I've had: -If it's your first class, show up half an hour early to get a tour and learn the machines. -Great coaches. Each of them is welcoming with a positive and upbeat attitude and will motivate you to work hard! They tell you exactly what you'll be doing on the treadmill, demonstrate every exercise in the weight room, and help correct your form if needed. -You'll have to buy one of their heart rate monitors (and remember to wear it) to see your results during and after every class. I opted for the chest strap ($69) but they also have a wrist band for something like $99. While it's not ideal that you need to purchase extra equipment on top of the class fees, the information you get from it is worthwhile and can help you keep track of your progress. With that said, people do have issues with the monitors every so often and the staff is there to help. Personally I have to wet the sensors on the strap with a little bit of water before each class to get it to read properly. -Clean facilities, which is a given considering they're new. They also provide wipes to clean off equipment after every class. -You can customize every workout to fit your abilities. There are low impact options available. -Easy sign up system through their app. Overall I've had a great experience and am certainly more fit from taking classes here. I can even say I don't totally dread treadmills anymore. Unfortunately I had to cancel my membership for January, so I approached the staff in late November to fill out the cancellation paperwork. It was a quick process and yes, my card is no longer being charged (though I will say that they should actually send a confirmation email). So as long you give them 30 days notice to cancel, (ie, after submitting your cancellation paperwork, you'll be charged one more time), there shouldn't be any major issues and you'll find that it's a fantastic workout! read more

I love participating in the challenges. OTF has brought out a side of me I never knew existed. Upbeat music! They also are very involved in the community and support various charities which I love. The Orange Theory - Triangle location in Austin is major disappointment. Completely dishonest business practices, and has overt liars for employees. Scam artists who lie to customers to get memberships, and now will not fess up to what was promised or to demonstrate appropriate customer service. -- Was lied to about the opening date for this location (they didn't open until November, however, when signing members up claimed it would be ready by August) --Was lied to about being able to get my money back at any time (was told by Lindsey that if for any reason I wasn't happy, I could get my money back - no questions asked. They will not stop debiting my card after speaking with several employees, and being told different things - they will not stop taking my money, and I have not gone to work out there once. All i've wanted is my money back. Nope - they all of a sudden don't do that). -- They let me know in an email the day they charged my card that they were open. I called to cancel and the woman told me very rudely that I would need to come in and fill out paperwork. --Went in to fill out paperwork, and was told that it would be another 30 day cycle so I would be charged again (hundreds of dollars at this point) and there was nothing I could do about it. -- Just to work out to get my money's worth, I would have to buy another device for $75. Save yourself the time and hassle - go anywhere else. OT Triangle management, I'm still waiting for an apology of being treated poorly and to get my money back. Thanks. read more

Unfortunately, I have to echo the sentiments of other yelpers when it comes to the business practices of this OT studio. I have been to an orangetheory class before and was excited that one was opening near me. My boyfriend and I received a "free week of classes" that needed to be redeemed onsite. We then went to collect our free week with hope of joining afterwards --- and, similar to the sleaziness of a timeshare meeting, were told we had to pay for a full month to qualify to a free week. What is worse? One of their very junior sales people, Laura, then got in touch with me (via text?) to ask if I still wanted to join and when I voiced my concern with these practices, she simply said "sorry about that, have a nice day." This is Austin, TX --- the number of locally owned small businesses in Fitness are nearly infinite. However, I was willing to give OTF a try and even fork over their arguably overpriced monthly membership -- however, given this experience, which left more than a sour taste in my mouth (I actually wanted to write to the BBB), I'll likely be taking my business (and recommending to my entire company, which touts a wellness stipend and program) to look elsewhere. read more

Amazing workout, beautiful space, incredible trainers, the front desk needs some work, one is constantly having to monitor one's account as mistakes are made and not in the customer's favor. You have a 5 minute grace period from when the class starts and unfortunately I've had to really insist I was within the grace period to get into a class I booked. It's exhausting, but I put up with all the zany mixups for the workout. I love love love training with Troy, Elvis, Kristina, Stephen, Josh (the Josh that was there from the beginning) big thank you and shout out to all you, literally some of the best I've ever known, my body is changing and I feel better. I will be forever grateful to have found all of you and this workout. As for the front desk hit or miss in terms of courtesy, professionalism and customer service spirit I am sure they are just growing pains and it will all even out in the end. I heard about a free Orange Theory class through Instagram, and was contacted via text maybe an hour after expressing interest. I thought it was pretty weird that the first method of contact was through text and not over the phone or via-email. I got a random (accidental) call in the late evening, because it seems as though the front-desk membership staff use their personal cell phones to contact customers--this may not be the case, but it was awkward. When I got a text reminder for the class, from a different number--it told me the wrong time for the class. Instead of needing to arrive at noon for the 12:30 class, I was told to arrive at 11:30 for a noon class (which did not exist). This meant that if I had followed the casual text reminder's information, I would have arrived at the studio a full hour before the class even started. What redeemed my awkward sign-up experience, was the fantastic work-out that I got. I think this is a great way to get a full-body, varied, intense workout in the amount of time you put in. At times the "Orange Theory" is a little gimick-y--in my opinion, at times it seemed as though they tried to claim that they invented 'heart rate monitoring'. However, there are some great components to the class-with partner exercises that keep you motivated, pictures of the proper exercise form on mounted-TV's, and a great overall motivational atmosphere. I did not enjoy the pressure the staff put on me to go ahead and purchase a membership right after my class, even though I told them that liked the class and was grateful for the coaches and the opportunity to receive a free class. As a young person, the membership just simply may not be the most logical financial option, but this is one of the better "boutique fitness class" workouts. The front desk and membership aspect of my experience at this location just wasn't the best and seemed a little bit unorganized, but nothing too bad! I hope that may help and I'm still grateful I got to try it out! read more

I've been coming to Orange Theory for a little under two months and really love it. It's the only class I've taken that I don't dread going to, even though it's by far the hardest workout I've ever done. Between the rowers, treadmills, and various exercises on the weight floor, the different daily workouts keep things switching up enough that I don't get bored, and I definitely don't stare at the clock the whole time. The heart rate monitors also offer something to look at other than the clock - You definitely don't need one of the class, but it makes it a little more interesting. So far, all the coaches have been great (Mariah is my fave). I haven't lost any weight yet, which is disappointing. But I do feel like my stamina and strength are increasing, so I'm hoping the weight follows soon! (One star off because it's so expensive!) read more
