We just discovered The Orchard House Bed & Breakfast in Lovingston, Virginia--only about 3 1/2…read morehours from Raleigh, NC--and it's the perfect getaway. The husband-and-wife owners, along with their four wonderful boys, are building such a special place here. The property is absolutely stunning: an amazing barn that's ready to host weddings, a sparkling pond with a fountain and gazebo, a vineyard right on-site, a beautiful swimming pool, a cozy fire pit, and breathtaking mountain views in every direction. There's so much to do--wineries, breweries, and incredible restaurants are just 15 to 20 minutes away in any direction, along with antique shops to explore. Or you can stay put and relax: enjoy a private breakfast on the front porch, book an in-room massage, or have a romantic dinner under the old oak tree in the backyard. And the breakfast? Out of this world. The wife is an incredible cook--you'll wake up to something better than you could imagine every morning. Whether you're looking for a quiet escape, planning a wedding, or just want to enjoy Virginia wine country, The Orchard House B&B is absolute perfection. Highly recommend!

We paid more than $500 to rent their event area. It was advertised as a nice, renovated area WITH…read moreAC and we were told it would be cleaned before our event. We were also told the owner/event manager would be on hand for help the day of. She seemed to forget who I was after meeting with me multiple times, but no biggie. I'm sure she meets lots of people. What was really not okay was that when we showed up to set up our event, the area was NOT cleaned and there was nobody to be found. There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151.

What a fantastic place. My daughter and about 10 other…read moregirls spent the week there attending a harp camp. It was wonderful! The place used to be a stable so each room was a horse stall. Very clean and neat...nothing really fancy, but nice comfortable beds, a dresser to store your stuff, a desk and great light for reading. But, like the other girls, my daughter did not spend much time in her room. The inn has a very comfortable common area with beautiful art work and interesting artifacts from the world-wide travels of the owners, a tv and a fabulous hearth. A great place to read or to chat with Kathy and Martin, the innkeepers. Aside from interesting stories about their interesting lives, they are just the most gracious hosts you could ever want. Such a great place for a family reunion or a wedding or any special event where you and your friends and family could fill up the rooms and take over the place. The outside seating areas are perfect for gathering and grilling and the views are so pretty. My hat's off to you, Kathy and Martin, for finding your niche in this life. Can't wait to come back next year!

I have stayed here many times and will return. The main Inn is a converted stable so each small…read moreroom is identical size and configuration, with a full size bed, small desk, and ikea type armoire-closet. Each room has different art, much of it original art and prints creates by the proprietor Kathy. This place is perfect for a group due to the gathering areas like the wonderful outdoor patio/deck and the indoor living room. And the price point is very group and family friendly. One of the reasons the price point is so great is because there are shared bathrooms down the hall rather than in your room. There are two, one for men and one for women, each has two commodes and two showers, one shower of which is ADA compliant. There is also another bathroom on the other end of the hall that is just a commode and sink. The bathroom is always very clean and I seldom bump into anyone there. If you're staying here with a group or family it's only going to be your people in the bathroom anyway. You can put some items in the shared refrigerator in the kitchen, there are glassware and plates as needed (just wash them when you're done). Breakfast is an assortment of homemade muffins and breads, jam, bitter, fresh fruit, coffee, or tea. I usually bring some hard boiled eggs or cheese, and keep it in the fridge. The proprietor is Kathy and Martin are super kind and are happy to provide suggestions about restaurants, wineries, swimming holes, etc. The property is on many acres in rural Faber, but is quite convenient to route 151 i.e. about eight minutes drive from Devils Backbone, and also about equidistant to Route 29. I've stayed here probably a dozen times with groups of friends and love it.

Yellow cab is pretty hit or miss in cville, and after using them for about a year this is the…read morefeedback/comments I have about their service. Tip 1 - if you're scheduling an ASAP ride, call the dispatch and ask them to give you an estimate of how long the wait time is at the moment. This is the MOST accurate info I get from them, the automated computer and the online estimate are just that - estimates. They're probably generated from some computer code and most of the time they're pretty close but the ONE day you need it to be right ofc will be the day it's WAY off. Call the operator instead. Tip 2 - talk to the drivers! I've ridden with 15+ drivers and pretty much all of them have been wonderful. I've had way friendlier drivers with yellow cab than Uber. Tip 3 - lower your expectations. At this point, their biggest competition is probably Uber who is just doing a better job. I've had late yellow cabs, wrong time estimates and honestly? Cabs that look like they're going to fall apart. But it will get you from point a to point b if that's all you're looking for. Overall, I'll be honest - if you have the option, I would recommend taking an Uber. Yellow cab could be a real contender if they had nicer vehicles and more accurate time reporting. Their drivers are super nicer but Uber is just more reliable.
