I've been a patron of this place for about 8 years now. Usual spot in the store that I visit is the deli. Reading other reviews of people not digging the soup or chili kind of boggle my mind. Favorite thing there IS their soup. Specifically go in just for that some days. The gluten free pesto salad is a favorite along with the kale salad and black bean corn salad. Almond dates in the refrigerated section are delish. Sometimes finding an employee to help is difficult and depending on who you get some can seem like it's a pain for them to take the time to talk or help you but usually that is not the case at all but I can't say that it's never happened. read more

They give 5 gallons of reverse osmosis FREE everytime you shop if you are a member. They have huge bulk local honey to buy and my favorite part of this store is the staff. I love the idea of this type of resource to the community for those who have a holistic approach to life, health and their body in general. Prices are what you would expect, selection is fabulous. Service is "meh". I come for the water. I was researching home filtration devices and I stumbled upon the filtering mechanism they have here and it's everything I wanted but couldn't afford to buy for my home. Charcoal filters, reverse osmosis, pH balanced, yada yada. You'll have to read it for yourself. I signed up for their email newsletters when I first moved to the area over a year ago. I'm glad I did. I went in there today looking for essential oils, and items i can use to make my own soaps. First off im only giving one star because i cant go any lower. Customer service was beyond rude... so rude that i totally didnt even want to stay in the store. I spoke with three different people. Im a very kind person. I have manners. Yet, i was treated like a piece of poo. Wonder if it was because the way i was dressed. But i worked until early this morning, and it had nothing to do with the money i was willing to spend. The cystomers shopping there actually had more nicer of a deameanor than the store employees. I will not go back. We've shopped at Orchard Nutrition for over 20 years. About three years ago my husband & I started a small essential oil business and Orchard Nutrition was the first one to bring us in. Not only did they bring our products in, but they gave us a visible spot on the shelf, and let us demonstrate our products. They have a whole aisle dedicated to local small businesses with community in mind. Our products do really well at Orchard Nutrition, because of the staff. Everyone in the wellness department listened to us, encouraged us and love our line of oils. They help support the community by hosting a health fair every year! All of the vendors come out to share their goods & put on a big show! It is really fun! Orchard Nutrition also teaches health classes upstairs and invite their vendors to teach. Downstairs they have a food bar, they have bulk foods, an amazing tea selection, a water purification system, every herb known to man to create natural healing, and so many other healthy organic grocery options. They care about your health and have a library of books from cancer to eating right. The owner, the manager, and the staff, have all been extremely kind to us. The San Francisco Deli on Athens is tops when it comes to friendliness and wonderful fresh sandwiches and really awesome clam chowder with great bread. The employees are super friendly. They beat out Orchard Nutrition's Deli by a long shot. The S. F. Deli's food is much fresher and the employee's appreciate you plus they have a nice sitting area. I am not going to get anymore sandwiches at Orchard as the last one was not fresh tasting and the workers act like you are bothering them to make you a sandwich. Right On S. F Deli. Oh, Orchard, how would I have survived my most recent stint in Redding without you? You are beautiful, an organic refuge in what was once (and probably still is) the record-holder city for most fast food restaurants per capita. Yes, prices are high, duh, it's local/ organic food. Prices are comparable to what one would find at Whole Foods or any other major natural foods grocery in a bigger city. No surprises there. And some vitamins/ herbal supplements brands are actually inexplicably priced lower than on discount vitamin retailer websites. After 9 years of living in the Bay Area, Orchard was a little home away from home. It's one of 3 places in town you can get bulk foods, spices, and herbs. (One of the others, Enterprise Health Foods, last time I checked, is actually more expensive with less of a selection. The third shall go unnamed because it is unmentionable, a blight on our fair landscape.) Orchard remains, by far, the best resource for organic foods and nutritional supplements in Redding. Can't really get local organic honey/ coffee/ soaps, non-toxic cleaners, fancy chocolate, gelato, tofutti cuties, etc, etc, etc, etc, most anywhere else in town. They almost have a monopoly. But they're great, so it's OK. Even though they always have like 500 employees who seem to work 2 hours a week each, all the employees seem to be pretty with it and are, at least, friendly, which in Redding says kind of a lot. And the manager holds it down. And where else in town would I get my needed exposure to Mount Shasta hippies who occasionally pass through, wildly bantering in line about crystal healing and St. Germaine? Love you, Orchard. I have been a patron since the beginning. This is not a 5 star store. They want to be, but since Redding is limited, what can ya do. The service is very good. The selections are good. Produce has improved! Lately, many items have no prices on the shelf, example; I bought some organic, non-nitrate bacon 8 OZ. 6 fatty slices and they charged me almost $10! Really? I also have noticed many times that the organic milk I have bought always goes bad 'before' the exp. date. Is it not being stored properly along the way, especially in our hot summers? Several boxes of cereal within date range where already going rancid. Again storage issues? The deli: don't get me started, oh wait.......it has improved but still well below pare.......like "hey deli owners, go to Mendocino and patronize the Good Life Cafe and Bakery.....now THERE is a health food deli to aspire to!!! read more

Orchard is a solid natural foods store and really tries hard to be competitive with decent pricing. The bulk section is awesome and they carry some hard-to-find products. What prevents me from giving 5 stars and making this my 'go-to' store is that their produce section is underwhelming and not great quality. Excellent selection of sugar free chocolate, like Lilly's Bars and morsels. Also, the dried herbs and teas are extensive and great quality.

Today was my first time at ONC. To say I had a big expectation of this store based on Yelp reviews would be an understatement. Once inside, it reminded me of the first co-op market I ever visited a long time ago in Venice, California. What a sweet store this is. It is earnestly trying to live up to a healthy philosophy. I live in an area where health food stores and healthy restaurants crop up around every corner so I'm very spoiled. I like the fact they carry a modest selection of quality, healthy products. Unfortunately, I have yet to walk into one "health food" market that does not carry some popular brands with sneaky sugars and strange ingredients. But that's why we read labels and educate ourselves. Right? I really liked the staff. When they saw me walking around searching for something, they actually offered to assist me. Just like the big, fancy markets. It's a youthful staff, so I'm not surprised there's a high turnover. Their membership policy leaves a lot to be desired. The only advantage to being a member is you get free water after you buy their bottles. If I have a water purifier, why would I want to lug a jug? I prefer discounts and freebies as a member -- special no tax for member days or third Tuesday of the month between 2 and 6 PM you can get a 10% discount. But apart from that, I will definitely return to OCN. read more

I love being able to buy local organic products 7 days a week and Orchard Nutrition allows me to do that. Great customer service, if they don't have it they will try to get it for you. This Is my favorite grocery in town. It's a great place to find organic produce and other clean foods: This is my go-to spot for good water, fresh breads (they offer a variety of Nathan's Sourdough in addition to the bread they bake in-house), chocolates, candies, and snacks made with real ingredients. Also, it's the only place in town that I'm aware of where you can purchase raw (unpasteurized) cow's milk. Their bakery and deli also serve up some tasty scones, muffins, cookies, soups and salads, and they make sandwiches to order. Lots of items in bulk - pure maple syrup, nutritional yeast, spices, nuts, etc. The staff has ALWAYS been kind and helpful, no exceptions. If I could, I'd give them six stars. Staff is (mostly) friendly. Shannon is extremely knowledgeable and explained products/comparable supplements to suite my families needs. She also explained how much the staff has been working with their suppliers, as well as online stores, to reduce, match, or BEAT prices. Wonderful news for someone who has shopped there for nearly 25 years. I noticed the change, but hearing this confirmed it. They also have local kombucha on tap. Perfect spot to stop if you have dietary concerns and are on the road. They had everything I was looking for & buy at home in Humboldt :) they had my favorite corn free chips (beanitos), a sweet lady behind the deli counter whipping up delicious sandos, fresh (!) on tap kombucha, pre made ready to go meals, and they even make their own gluten and corn free bread! Which is much closer to normal/full sized loaves than the corporate made glutino brand and other similarly mass produced gluten free options. I went in on Monday to get a hot soup and chose the Tortilla soup which has way too much cumin in it. Today ,2 day later, I stipped in for another soup and chose the Vegan Chili. Low and behold, I get back to my office with my "chili" only to discover it is the Tortilla soup from earlier in the week now with more beans and still too much cumin. Come-on Orchard, you can do better. Your vegan chili is usually wonderful. read more

More like 2.5 stars. Okay so this place has so much potential. They have really hard to find products at absolutely amazing prices. My problem is purely the customer service. I asked a worker where the restrooms were and she was really snotty when directing me. Not to mention the restrooms were filthy. When I got out of the restroom I ordered a beet/ carrot/ apple juice and when I got it the juice was all over the sides of the cup and it got beet juice (hello red stain) on my nice shirt.
